I wish Sherry Stringfield had gotten to play these scenes.
I get that they were trying to say the love of Ross matured/tamed Blake, but because Keifer couldn't play the character with edge, it made it feel like they were whitewashing how awful Blake had been to Holly and almost as if everything was Holly's fault.
BetterForgotten, I hope you're enjoying the summer 1990 episodes that have surfaced on YT. I'm hoping that poster uploads the next two years, so much more good stuff awaits.
Do you think the Blake recast took away the scheming homewrecker aspect of the character? I wonder who else GL considered when the role was recast. That character needed a Michelle Stafford/Kimberlin Brown type of actress I'd say.

There's a YT user mentioned here before that's posting June 1990 episodes. I'm actually looking forward to their uploads more than I am to current Y&R LOL.

I hadn't watched any clips for a long time due to regular life getting in the way, but since I'm on vacation I spent some time rewatching fall/winter 1989, and early 1990.
I had forgotten there were some hints dropped of a potential Alan-Michael/Blake affair at the end of 1989 and then the actual affair began in February 1990. I thought Carl T. Evans's Alan-Michael looked like a little boy next to Sherry Stringfield's Blake. Then in the summer Alan-Michael was recast with Rick Hearst and he at least looked like a grown man.
Roger/Alexandra was also beginning at this time, leading to their marriage in the spring. That pairing was more cat-and-mouse/power play. I didn't think there was any great love between them.
So I'm watching scenes from GL on youtube from 1990, and it's very interesting to see this GL versus the one that it became under JFP/Curlee. With Calhoun/Long at the helm, it seemed like there was some potential of a AC/Mindy romance, or even a Mindy/AC/Rick triangle, you also had Josh/Harley, and Blake/Alan-Michael, all of which would change for the next year or so with AC/Harley, Blake/Ross, Mindy and the intro of Nick, Beth/Rick/Phillip and Josh being written off. You had Sam Marler also in some pivotal storylines under Calhoun/Long compared to JFP/Curlee.
Summer 1990 to spring 1991 was a big transition period, but I thought the show actually got better when all was said and done. Sadly by the end of summer 1992 all the momentum was gone.

I loved the game show crossovers with the CBS soap stars. That was a big part of why CBS Daytime was so awesome back in the day.

When Y&R was getting off the ground John Conboy offered Beverlee McKinsey a role.
They had worked together on LIAMST but Bev decided to accept a contract at AW after initially recurring as Iris.
Can't think who Bev could have played on Y&R?
Jennifer Brooks maybe?

I don't think there's a CBS Daytime pre-emption guide anywhere. We have to guess based on memories and Google
Another 1989 event I thought of: San Francisco earthquake on October 17. Although the earthquake occurred in the late afternoon/early evening in San Francisco, there might have been some CBS news coverage in the morning/afternoon the next day.
Forgot about CBS coverage of the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Can't believe I missed Bill Clinton's inauguration in the 1993 list LOL. Also missed in 1993, Major League Baseball playoffs from October 5-13 but I'm not sure if there were any weekday afternoon games.
Since 1994 was mentioned, some pre-emptions I can think of
January 17: Los Angeles earthquake
March 17 and 18: NCAA Men's Basketball
June 30-July 8: OJ Simpson trial
September 5 and 9: US Open Tennis
November 24 and 25: Thanksgiving
I believe Black Friday pre-emptions have been happening since at least the mid-1990s if not earlier, that's why I include that day whenever I compile a pre-emption list.

Awesome, thank you!
Didn't know about this possible September pre-emption... Was B&B pre-empted as well?
Do you by any chance have any other certain pre-emption dates in 1987-1992?
Going by holidays, history, and CBS sports coverage, these are the pre-emption dates I compiled for 1987-1992.

BTW (regarding your status update earlier): were there any presumptions in 1993?
1993 dates I'm pretty certain Y&R didn't air:
Friday January 1 - New Year's Day
Thursday March 18 and Friday March 19 - NCAA Men's Basketball
Monday September 6 and Friday September 10 - US Open Tennis
Monday September 13 (possible but not 100% certain) - CBS news coverage of Oslo Accords signing
Thursday November 25 and Friday November 26 - Thanksgiving

I know Ryan was a bit of a sleaze but I hate how this show or any soaps no longer have characters that are like him.....basically the guy with the shady past that eventually becomes a decent guy but has always been (or at least tried to be) a decent guy....Reeves (like most of Bell's finds back in the day) was IMO a special type of casting for the show....that may sound weird but oh well.....
I never thought of Ryan (and Scott Reeves) as being any kind of prize catch. Speaking of which, Scott Reeves guest starred on Finding Carter recently and he hasn't aged very well.

I second soapfan770s sentiments
Spring 1990-Summer 1994, Summer 1997-end 1999 were Y&R's best years of the 1990s.

I guess we could always assume that they just sped Jill's pregnancy up (like they did with Lauren's with Scotty) but I wouldn't be surprised if Billy was really Victor's son......
again as long as Jill stays offscreen, there is no chance of Pratt wanting to do a "retcon" of Victor being Billy's father.
I wouldn't want that at this point anyways. That would mean Billy and Victoria are related. Yuck! Lol
Besides, it would have been discovered during baby Katherine's DNA test.

For years there was speculation that Billy was Victor's child and not John Abbott's. The Jill/Victor affair took place around October/November 1992. Jill learned she was pregnant in March 1993. Billy was born on-screen in July 1993 and he was not premature.
Just from the math I can see why the possibility of Victor being Billy's father was out there. Given storylines over the last 6 years, thankfully that didn't happen.

I had forgotten this was Sherry Stringfield's last episode on the show, and what a way to go out. She'll always be "my Blake."
Mine too. Loved her as Blake. Losing both Sherry Stringfield and Beverlee McKinsey (RIP) in the same month was a huge blow to the show. I stopped watching not long after.
I was feeling nostalgic over the holiday weekend and found myself rewatching summer/fall 1989 episodes. CBS daytime on the whole was so awesome in the late 1980s/early 1990s, with the game show block and 4 daytime dramas at full steam.
I had totally forgotten Michelle Forbes was on GL. I started watching in spring 1989 and I believe she was gone by the end of year, so I only watched the tail end of her run. I looked Michelle Forbes up on IMDb and she's been working steadily for the last 25 years and in some big hits, I'm impressed. Her latest entry on IMDb is the upcoming Hunger Games movie, wow.
Anybody know what became of Kimberley Simms? I thought she was really pretty, and looked a lot like Christie Brinkley. I read that she was considered for two major recasts in the mid 1990s, Jennifer on Days and Ashley on Y&R, but as we know nothing came of it. Her IMDb entry only has a couple of entries post-GL so she might have retired from acting.
I didn't watch GL for very long (spring 1989 to summer 1992) but I'm glad I did for those great years.

25 years ago this month:

I watched this episode when it originally aired on CBS, and I cried so much afterwards.

new July 1991 uploads
7/19/91
YRfan23, what other July 1991 episodes do you have? I believe that month would also have Scott Reeves first episode.
0 -
YRfan23, thanks for posting the May 1990 episodes you have. What a treat it was to see Victoria Rowell's first two episodes. I was surprised to find out she was almost 31 years old when she started on Y&R.
So Dru arrived before Olivia and Sheila, and Mamie was also recast the same month. I'm pretty sure Tonya Lee Williams's first scenes were with Veronica Redd's Mamie.

It's a shame Epperson left
And we got stuck with the then Mrs. Ronn Moss for three years.

New Year's Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas have usually been the holidays with no episodes. Then there are the March Madness and US Open breaks.

YRfan23, how much of January 1994 do you have? I remember some pre-emptions during the week of January 17-21 due to coverage of the Los Angeles earthquake.

This month marks the 25th anniversary of the arrivals of Kimberlin Brown, Victoria Rowell, and Tonya Lee Williams. I know Kimberlin's first episode was online years ago, but I don't recall seeing Victoria or Tonya's first episodes anywhere.
Sadly, yesterday was the 2nd anniversary of Jeanne Cooper's passing. May she RIP.
Don't know if this video is posted but Jeanne is hilarious in this (starting at 4:00): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzendVxnqJI

The 1980s were a scary time for fashion.

Today (January 19) would've been Ridge and Caroline's 25th anniversary.

The subtitled clips were all I could find of the wedding episode.

Sad part is that B&B should've dominated in nominations and awards pre-2005 when the show was stellar. Especially around the early 90s--the BeLieF era.
Well, as of 2014 B&B does have more acting Emmy wins than Days.

Darlene Conley (RIP) was the first actor from B&B to be nominated for a daytime Emmy. She had 2 nominations for supporting actress in 1991 and 1992.

If there was a channel somewhere airing 1980s and 1990s Y&R I would so watch that.
Maybe it's me, but I never felt Y&R became a pop culture phenomenon in the 1980s and 1990s the way General Hospital was in the late 1970s/early 1980s and Days was during the supercouple and Reilly years. I don't recall Soap Opera Digest or People releasing special commemorative issues for Y&R's 40th anniversary in 2013 the way they did for General Hospital's 50th anniversary that same year and Days's 50th anniversary in 2015.
