  1. I remember that poster on the crazy board where people are not allowed to mention LA soaps by name. She claimed to be an African American post-op transsexual married woman with two kids who had worked on several shows. Some of her stories were very interesting. There was also a lot of talk about food in her posts for some reason.

Why do you think it didn't work out with Caroline? Was it just some punishment of the Dobsons as they brought her in?

Oh I'd forgotten about that they (Anne Howard Bailey or whoever) wanted an attractive nun for Mason to be paired with and then during the strike they cast the deaf actress instead.

I have no idea why they were so eager to get rid of Caroline. The show had a tendency to kill off characters after they had a short period of happiness. Joe Perkins, Mary Duvall, Amy Perkins, Caroline, Hayley all had tragic deaths within a few years. I started losing interest in the show after Caroline's death because started were getting way too sad and dark for me with all the deaths and rapes. The recasts didn't help either.

After Caroline's death and the departures of Jane and Alice the show brought back Laken as a vixen and we were informed that she never had a baby as Augusta had told everybody .Wasn't Augusta brought back as a mobster's wife after a while?

Now that you mention it, it could be Anne Howard Bailey who introduced Father Michael.

Santa Barbara is one of the shows that would benefit from being a half-hour soap focusing on the core families.

  3. I think that Father Michael was brought by the Dobsons, during the time the show wanted to get Mason involved with another nun.

I adored Caroline and the family dynamics in the Lockridge house with Lionel, Warren, Alice and Jane. Lenore Karsdorf was a gorgeous, talented woman who should have stayed longer on a soap opera. I always hoped that Brad Bell would bring either her or Denise Alexander as Beth Logan on B&B.

How many different pairings did Michael go through anyway? Given that they seemed to have no idea what to do with him I was surprised he was around as long as he was.

The Dobsons had worked with the actor on ATWT where he played Steve and wanted to work with him again. He even had a sister and a father on the show and he was involved in stories with Julia, Gina, Celeste/Crystal, Cruz and many others.

They did the same with Lenore Karsdorf whose character Caroline was Rita Stapleton 2.0, but we all know how that ended.

What did everyone think of the Laura arc that lasted about a year and a half?  Was it a surprise to everyone else that she became as crazy as she did...or were there clues?

I didn't like the Michael/Laura/Ethan/Gina stories at all. I felt that TPTB could not make up their mind what to do with them. Then Laura became Heather Webber out of the blue and even had a friend in the hospital just like Heather's friend. SB should stick to focusing on the Capwells and the Lockridges, since every single new group of characters they tried to focus on didn't last more than one or two years (of weird rewrites)

  6. How do you think Douglas Marland would have continued his stories on GL? I am sure some of his ideas were used on LOVING and ATWT.

Would the Reardons become his Snyders? We already had "Emma", "Meg" and "Nola" and "Holden/Caleb"

Would Morgan Richards become his Lily Snyder? Jennifer Richards reminded me a little bit of a much softer Lucinda Walsh with her two daughters, one of whom she had given up as a baby.

What were his plans for Carrie? And her son?

Would Phillip be SORASed to have Jack Forbes's problems?

Shame by 1986, Lorna didnt have much to do..at least in the few episodes ive seen.

Lorna had an Pamela Sue Martin/Emma Samms situation. She became so weak and boring when O'Hara Parker (?) took over and that marriage to Zach Conway sure didn't help.

  8. Greg was brought as a new version of Ted. I didn't like him at all. During that time we also got the Dinapolli sisters. And perhaps Ethan, Laura and Father Michael. That's when I stopped watching on a daily basis.

My problem was the the original Capwell kids had amazing chemistry with each other. Mason adored Ted and Kelly; Kelly and Eden were also very close and this was lost between all the recasts. One thing that bothered me with Carrington's version of Kelly was that they were getting involved with the same men. Perhaps John Conboy -who btw ruined the iconic Capwell set- saw them as the new Lori and Leslie Brooks

I disagree about Carrington.  She wasn't Robin's Kelly but she certainly made Kelly her own and I actually prefer her Kelly to all the others.

In some ways TPTB were always preparing CG to take over as the show's "new Eden" in case MW left. This is the funny thing with recasts; sometimes we hate the new actor, sometimes we like the actor and hate him in the part, other times someone new takes over and the character becomes a new person and we don't mind at all. BTW CG would have been amazing on Y&R

Why do you think they did such a poor job with that Kimberly McArthur recast? You'd think they had years to prepare for Robin leaving.

What did you think of Keith? To me his value kind of ends once the Cruz in prison story is over.

I never felt that Kimberly McArthur was meant to stay for a long time. Perhaps they were interested in another actress (Carrington?) and wanted to help the audience accept her easier.

Keith was fun at first. After a while he and Gina became a joke like Jeffrey and Gloria.

  10. Carrington Garland was a gorgeous woman and I liked her as actress, but she was never Kelly to me. Never.

Many years ago I read that TPTB had considered recasting the part of Eden with Leann Hunley. Have you heard that?

I didn't mind Louise Sorel written out, I had stopped caring for Augusta (not her portrayer) years ago.

Thank God for the Dobsons bringing back the old Capwell set. They tried to write ED's Kelly like Eden and had Catrina as the nu-Kelly. I also liked Wanda de Jesus as Santana, but I still missed Ava Lazar.

For me the show's best years were from 1984 to 1987. By 1988 it had started becoming too dark and sad for me.

  11. This thread is amazing  Some random thoughts:

I hated the Clay/Alex twist and didn't believe that the aristocratic Aldens were suitable for that kind of story. The fact that Lisa Peluso took over as Ava during that period make me hate it even more. Egypt was great though, so was Minnie and I always thought that Todd would turn out to be Alex and Egypt's son.

I loved early Loving when Marland was still around and we had family moments with the Donovans and later the Rescotts. Sometimes I think that his stories for Jack Forbes were ideas for his SORASed Phillip Spaulding, the adopted heir he was writing for on GL. In some ways Jack's Lily was Phillip's Beth,

I considered Clay and Gwyneth's family too immoral and I liked Ann and Roger's better.

Marland's Ava was a factory worker played by Patty Lutz. Similar to Nola Reardon, with the single mother, the many siblings and the boarding house. When he left, she became more like Erica Kane.

I thought Patricia Kalember was rather boring as the show's leading lady during the first few months, not to mention not very nice for getting involved with a married man. I watched episodes from 1983 to 1989, then the show stopped airing here in Greece. The Dolly mess was horrible and not really connected to the key characters; I hated the Alex Masters story, never understood the point of all these random Beachum boys. Shannon Eubanks was great as Ann and the show should have kept Susan Walters and Linden Ashby around. Too many changes and the show would always get lost within a story that went too far.

Stacey WAS a weak spot!  She was so boring and drab and just.... blech.  Even Rick Stewart couldn't make her interesting.  I always rooted for Lily in the Lily/Jack/Stacey triangle.

Funny thing was, I actually liked the show's other heroines.  Trisha was my favorite and I always thought Shana to be a strong character.  But Stacey was such a milquetoast that I always rooted against her, even when I knew I wasn't supposed to.  I never understood the purpose of her character and surprised she lasted as long as she did.  Unfortunately, loving didn't air in St. Louis when I lived there so I never got to see her get murdered.

I think that Stacey was created by Douglas Marland as a new version of Hilary Bauer and it worked for her. I never bought her as a leading lady.

Watching all these clips and to this day I cannot accept Lisa Peluso as Ava. Roya gave life to that little show.

  13. Bethanny feels the need to punish and humiliate every other woman for her mother's sins. She has taken the housewives thing way too seriously and treating it like an ugly divorce battle.

I think that Crazy Kelly was the first to see who Bethanny really is lol. And Jill Zarin of course, who was as it turns out the Margo Channing to her Eve Harrington.

Her toxic madness has ruined NY for me. She is way too sad and bitter to be part of such a lighthearted show.

  14. Yolanda needs to go, she is nuts in scary way. She has started looking like a man, here's an idea for her next journey after failing to become a lifestyle guru and the face of every illness in the book.

Eileen needs to go, she obviously doesn't want to film with her husband for her own reasons, she is way too serious, has 1993 hair and she likes people like Yolanda and Erika. I think her marriage is in big trouble, everyone knows it and she hates LVP for asking her how she met her husband. She is mean, not in a fun way.

Erika needs to go. (BTW I don't believe her mother named her after Erica Kane, I think she named herself) The idea of a woman her age trying to act like a drag queen, pretending to be gay icon (to the poor guy who does her hair, you know the one whom she made act as though he didn't know who LVP is), claiming to have two personas where they is not enough material for one stopped being interesting after her second episode.

Next year should be Rinna's last. She should leave after everybody realises that she is as crazy as Yolanda and Kim. This could be fun.

  15. Somebody should tell Yolanda that perhaps her idea that everybody is after her is another symptom of her illness. For a woman who can't read a book, drive a car, walk, eat and who has told us herself that her brain doesn't work very often, she seems very sure that her perception of things is that clear. She thinks she is so much better than anybody else, but all I see is a bitter, sad woman who can only befriend aging bimbos who think she is smarter than them. Whether they are married to their rich grandfather or they are broke and obsessing over their ex isn't important to me.

Eileen didn't want Kathryn to continue talking (and perhaps say the wrong thing?), so she started talking about the same stupid issue. I don't like her at all this season. Her marriage is awkward, her "stories" are sad and boring and she chose the wrong team. Plus she looks like someone who is visiting from 1993.

Kathryn was brought because Yolanda is sick and keeps the production hostage. (Btw Yolanda thinks that looking sick is the same as looking like a late life lesbian for some reason) Kathryn looks like someone from the last Dallas season when nobody was watching.

These women have to realise that they are the cast of another Vanderpump Rules show and stop going after the one housewife who doesn't have to cry, yell, bully, be a joke, or be a slut to be liked. Oh and somebody should explain to Erika that Erika Jayne is not her alter ego, it is her only personality. I am sure that Brandi -if she could ever stomach being married to her grandfather- would be classier than an aging stripper pretending to be a drag queen who pays random gay people to tell her she is a diva.

  16. BH:

I have no intention of watching a BH episode where everybody attacks Lisa. I guess Yolanda's illness is no longer playing with her mind when she has a group of mean girls to team against Lisa. Kim is a sad piece of trash and you can't blame anybody for not treating her like a normal person, because she is not. Brandi is being Brandi, only this time she targets someone I really like so I am through with her.

Team Lisa all the way. They can all go away and I will still be watching Ken and Lisa playing with their dog.

    Atlanta:

What Marlo did was act like early Nene. Nene knows the game really well and she sees what is happening. I am sick and tired of watching her go to all the events angry and furious and not really acting like someone who has arrived. She is becoming way too toxic.

  17. Everybody is jealous of Lisa for being so popular without acting like a Nene or a Theresa. She is the smartest of them all, she is a successful businesswoman, she was chosen for DWTS and a spin-off, she is happily married and she knows how to play the housewives game like a lady without acting like a trashy drunk or an angry teen.

I love her humor and she knows how to make fun of herself, her sex life etc. The others know that and they know her comments about them are not actually vicious attacks. Her joke about Mauricio and his little daughter was a JOKE. If a friend said it to my mother about my father and my sister she wouldn't start the fake soapy tears. Whatever Lisa says is considered so mean and horrible because you know, she is so smart.

Her only mistake? Brandi. I understand she likes stray dogs, but she should have known from the Adrienne incident that this person is very toxic can't be trusted.

If they are all around next year, Brandi will turn against Yolanda. Then she will find another older rich girlfriend to take her to parties and spend time in her beautiful mansion. Then she will realise that they are not on the same level and they will never will be and she will start acting crazy and mean all over again. The fact that most of you didn't like Adrienne, doesn't make what she did to her less horrible. Then she will try to defend herself by talking about Eddie, the boys and Chica.

  18. I love Ramona, she reminds me of a real-life Lisa Miller Grimaldi.

I hate LuAnn trying to act classy and sophisticated and then releasing a trashy drag queen song. And then she becomes way to mean for my taste.

Kelly was gorgeous but had some serious issues. Never hated Jill and I couldn't stand Bethenny trying to act like Carrie Bradshaw and ordering skinnygirl drinks all the time.

Alex and Simon I always thought they were a lot of fun. At first they were the show's joke, then I grew to really like her.

    * * *

How original, everyone hates Lisa again. She is so mean and scary and she can understand what we think. Oh please. They all look so stupid and jealous. And the scene from next week's episode with that freak Kingsley's pet talking to Ken like that made me furious. Kingsley should have stayed home; Kim needs some training in order to stop peeing and barking all the time.

    * * * *

Team Kenya all the way. Nene has been angry, jealous and violent for way too many years. Her constant talking about being rich is boring and almost sad. She has to realise that she is not the only one who can play these reality star tricks. I don't think that's the end of her, but she has been the most toxic Atlanta housewife for quite some time.

  19. Nene has always been like this. Always attacking the one she is jealous of, trying to scare people by yelling in their face and insulting them. This is a part of the RH game I guess. I always found her a very angry person with a huge ego. She has never arrived as far as I am concerned and the more she talks about her success the more I see how empty her words are.

The moment she started blaming Kenya for everything that happened and after reading her stupid comments about Brandon, I have stopped being interested in her persona. I'd rather watch Porsha talk.

  20. Nene has always been very jealous of other women, especially when they are successful. She is not stupid, she knows she is part of a reality show bubble and that a new "Nene" can show up every day and take her spot. I think she promised production a huge fight, but we all know what kind of show we are watching, nothing new here. What I don't understand is how she is the only one allowed to yell in people's faces, looking ready to beat them up. Dwight and Kim are two examples. When Nene does it, she is Nene. When someone elses does it, they are a "bully".

Kenya's friend Brandon was the only real man at that party. Between that loser hiding behind his wife and the "macho" brutal animals beating him up, he was the only one at the party who defended a lady against someone who grabbed her arm.

Whic prison is worse for Apollo? The real one or Phaedra's bed?

Nene had no right yelling at Kenya. Trying to make it look as though she started everything, was another one of her mistakes that night.

    Kenya looked GORGEOUS.

I am not even talk about Kandi wanting Porsha in her musical.

  21. I can't stand stupid Kim trying to start a feud with Lisa in order to have a story other than Kingsley. Brandi is royalty compared to that wacko, who doesn't seem that sober to me.

I hate her talking heads and watching the Richards trying to act like teenagers all the time.

Joyce uses the words bully and racist all the time in order to gain sympathy. A lot of people do that. When someone doesn't like you it doesn't make them a racist. For someone so sensitive with these things she should reconsider her "you can never be too young or too skinny" talk.

I like Carlton as part of the group, I think Kim should be fired before any other housewife. I'd rather see Adrienne or Camille back.
