  1. Thank you, Elsa! :D So you saw the snake and falling of a bridge?

Oh yes, I saw that :) Details are not very clear to me, but I remember that I was shocked by that scene. It was nothing like Loving at all and there was no reason to go there. At that time I thought it was clear that they wanted to show us that Jonathan turned into a snake, but I don't know if I would interpret it this way today. Even then it seemed very naive to me.

  2. So who here watched Keith/Jonathan battle and Jonathan making a pact with the devil?

I watched that storyline. Too wacky and "dark" and way too much Dolly Jones during that period for no apparent reason. It felt like a cheap telenovela (probably that's why we loved early Loving here in Greece). It was during the Beachum brothers/Zona mess, or right before that if I remember correctly. Loving was a different show every six months, but it was mostly fun. The Keith/Jonathan/Dolly period was not so much fun :P and as a kid I was shocked by the fact that someone turned into a snake ON A SOAP.

  3. Santa Barbara had lost me by that time.

Eden's rape story and her search for her presumed-dead baby was way too depressing for me. The entire Cain-Andrea-Philip Hamilton-Ming Li storyline was very tasteless, there was no reason for Megan and Greg to show up, Bunny was too much, boring Sandra, boring DiNappoli girls, don't get me started on Ethan-Laura-Michael and Heather-Celeste-Scott. Who was in charge of the show back then?

I was a huge Cruz and Eden fan until Robert showed up and for the first time I wanted Eden with someone else :)

Santa Barbara never recovered from the loss of Lane Davies and Robin Wright. We had two other GREAT Masons, but Kelly was no longer Kelly to me.

From what I understand Santa Barbara's JumpTheShark moment happened sometime in 1988 for me.

Thanks for the great summary! :)

  4. I always thought that Generations had many similarities with Lovers and Friends, another short-lived NBC soap. Both shows were set in Chicago and started with a milldle-class family moving in a rich neighbourhood.

Pat Crowley was great as the matriarch, but the Whitmores were a mess as a soap family. Monique was very boring, there were no male members (expect recurring) and they were not strong enough to lead a show.

It was great to see Linda Gibboney again though :) Too bad she did't work on another soap after that. And in my opinion Pat Crowley would be the ideal Beth Logan on B&B.

  5. 1984-87 were the golden years of Santa Barbara for me.

When Robin Wright and Lane Davies left they were both replaced by some great actors (Eileen Davidson, Terry Lester, Gordon Thomson to name a few) but the balance between the Capwell siblings was lost. I hated when they had Kelly turn against Eden, it was so out of character. They were not Lori and Leslie Brooks to fight over a guy.

I never understood why the Donelly family was introduced. The Celeste-Scott-Heather triangle had no place in the show. How about the Cain- Ming Li- Philip Hamilton-Andrea mess?

Does anyone remember anything about a character named Derek Griffin? From what I remember John Conboy's era was horrible.

I was madly in love with Mason Capwell as a child :) By the way NLG hasn't changed AT ALL since 1985!

  6. Wow. This is very interesting. All I now about WTHI comes from my Soap Opera Encyclopedia and it is great to read more info.

The storylines sound like a cross between B&B and JER's first round on DAYS. I'd love to see some clips..

BTW Eric where can I find your post about A New Day In Eden? I always wanted to find out what this show was all about.
