  1. A bunch of ATWT actors paid tribute to him when he passed, right? Michael Park? I know CZP appeared to love him, as he centered the show around Barbara.

I don’t recall any of his so-called innovations, but I’m chalking that up to the feature writer not knowing soaps. At the time, I did like that at least he tried to ground Leah Laiman’s stories, most of which felt like half-baked gimmicks, in character (like Andy’s paralysis and Rose). He did bring buzz to the show during a time when it otherwise would have faded into obscurity. But man, did things come undone.

So sorry to hear this, glib as that sounds. I hope all will be well for her.

Thank you! I think the news about it hitting close to home made her take it more seriously (someone she knows who lives up the road from her tested positive), and she’s being very cautious.

  3. There’s been a cluster tied to gay nightclubs in Seoul, but people don’t want to come forward to be tested due to homophobia in South Korea’s conservative society:

”After Kookmin Ilbo, a local media outlet with links to an evangelical church, reported that businesses visited by an infected man over the long weekend were gay clubs, many other South Korean media followed suit, revealing not only the identity of clientele but also some of their ages and the names of their workplaces.”

I do wish Leah had a more genuine connection with the cast but she's fit in well enough. It's been so strange seeing Ramona being motherly to her. Ramona NEVER cares about a new girl the way she seems to with Leah.

I do like that Ramona admires her for escaping a similarly troubled childhood and becoming a successful businesswoman. I actually like Ramona a lot this season. She’s still super oblivious but also with a deeper sense of self-reflection and taking stock of her life. The women on this show just have much richer and more well-expressed inner lives than on the other series, even with all the broad comedy and drunken antics.

I don’t miss the Bethenny one-woman show either. I like Leah a lot too, and she brings a lot of the Frankel wit without the I’m so much smarter than you arrogance, self-absorption, and overbearing judgment. I just don’t fully buy her in this group quite yet. New housewives are always tricky unless they’ve had long relationships with the cast that preceded their appearance. Her banter with Sonja is fun. And I must say Drunk Sonja was a blast at that stuffy dinner party, and I don’t tend to love her when she’s three sheets to the wind.

I like Gigi too and thought her stand-up was way better than I expected it to be, given how the show previewed her stumbling. But who was it who did her puppet in the mini-challenge? They clocked her for falling back on her robot schtick after the Snatch Game success.

I love Jaida as well, and she would be a deserving winner at the end. Her stand-up was terrible, even accounting for the fact that Sherry screwed her over by running long. (Just a cringeworthy concept.) All in all, I think I somewhat agree with Ru that this has been a somewhat strong season.
