If Ron Carlivati wrote for B&B, we'd finally get some gay characters, but one of them would be a villain that would blackmail a straight guy (probably Thomas or Wyatt) into bed, but eventually he would be reformed. And Hope would somehow get DID.

As for characters that he would write well for, I can't really decide since B&B hasn't really been that campy these last few years. But I do think that he had been writing in the late 80s and 90s, he would have had a great handle on the Spectra crew, particularly Sally and Darla.

He would definitely have gay characters and I fully believe he’d have Quinn fully off her rocker again. Paris would either be killed or in a coma right now and she’d wear a Brooke mask to seduce and screw $Bill.

  2. In the GL thread, several posters speculated about how Nancy Curlee would have written GH had she succeeded Claire Labine in the mid-‘90s as planned. Lots of comments about how well she would have carried the baton with the female characters, the Bobbie/Carly relationship (parallels to Holly/Blake on GL), and navigating Luke’s nefarious history (similar to Roger).

That inspired me to start this thread, which is a game we’ve all played over the years in various discussions: imagine how certain HWs would have tackled stories on a soap at any particular point in time. Which characters would they spark with or have trouble with? Which problems would they have solved or potentially made worse? You could, say, envision what Kay Alden would have done with AMC (had she taken over as HW in the mid-2000s).

Or, more fantastically, how would a still-living Doug Marland write GH if he were to return to the show today, with the characters currently on the canvas? Which characters would he do well with (certainly Brando might leap out as a classic Hutch-like himbo)? Who would be his Lily or Nola? Joss? Sasha? (God help him if those were his choices.) Trina? Maxie/Brook Lynn? How would he rehabilitate his (now totally gutted) Quartermaine family, especially with the dubious introduction of Austin/RH into the fold?

What would a Megan McTavish (shudder) Y&R look like if she were Josh Griffith’s clean-up woman and still had to keep a slim budget? An Agnes Nixon B&B (which I can’t wrap my head around—Jim Reilly, sure)?

  3. B&B lacks the range to do social-issue stories. Brad should stick to the trashy, outrageous stuff that’s in his wheelhouse. Scandals, sordid affairs, sex under absurd circumstances.

The major problem is that Brad fails to give payoffs to even the trashy stuff, certainly not since the Beth story concluded. He doesn’t give us the satisfaction of really good high-carb, empty-calorie TV. He writes little self-contained arcs that deflate and sputter at the end like a whoopee cushion, which perhaps makes the show more digestible to the casuals?

I mean I giggled and I appreciate the self-awareness but there is a hint of unprofessionalism about an actor seriously s***ing on his own show and writers publicly like that.

We are not talking SC gently mocking the obsession Steffy and Hope have for his character. We are talking an actor straight up saying the writing for his character sucks and he doesn't know what he is playing.
It is almost as if he is trying to provoke a "falling-down-the-elevator-shaft" situation and be let out of his contract.

Oh it’s totally unprofessional. But I’ve been so appalled by what I’ve seen on B&B lately that it’s hard for me to get up in arms about his breach in decorum. (SC has said something similar recently; I’ll have to find it.)

Part of me feels Brad knows his writing is trash and probably would have a chuckle over MA’s post himself.

This week Thomas tells lies and threatens everyone to keep the secret!
No? Oh, this week Thomas attacks Liam for his constant flip flopping!
Not that? I got it: This week Thomas needs brain surgery after finding out his latest obsession with Hope wasn’t his fault!
Wrong again? …Wait, he’s the good guy and helps Liam?
    Nah, that’s not it.
Catch up with @boldandbeautifulcbs weekdays on @cbstv or the @paramountplus app! Obviously I will ‘cause I’m very confused.

LMAO at how these actors know they’re playing dogsh!t. Gotta hand it to him. He never phones it in.

Tracy is a yes for me too.  And possibly Lois.  They just need a good recast.  I wish LLC had taken on that role, but I guess they offered her a Brenda recast before Olivia lol....That would have been something

Would Debi Mazar do a soap? Ha.

Is there anyone you would have back under FV's GH 2021?  My only thought is possibly Robin.

Robin definitely. They sort of made a clown out of Tracy the last time she was back, but I’d still want to see JE on the canvas.

No I for sure didn't take it the wrong way lol.  Brenda has been thrown under the bus for Carly and probably would be again.  But we all know Carly is just a girl who built her life on Brenda's sloppy seconds...🤣

Got it. You were just sticking up for your girl! No, she is certainly not stupid. Theoretically she’d be GREAT to have back, but on FV’s GH in 2021? Pass.

Brenda was never stupid.  Someone that made dumb decisions sometimes?  Yes.  But they always portrayed Brenda as at least mildly intelligent lol.  Same with Carly.  She makes stupid choses all the time, but I think she's very savvy still.

I think my comment is being taken the wrong way lol. I don’t think Brenda is stupid. I think that FV’s allegiance is clearly with Carly, and I think the show would try to diminish Brenda in comparison to his precious queen, at least storywise. Carly always has to win. Just not something I’d want to see as a longtime Brenda fan.
