Why was SBu against it? Robin and Jason were good, but not a supercouple or anything lol. I assume that means it was something personal and that is pretty unprofessional. I remember them chem testing Robin and Nik and Brenda and Jax being super fan girly about it and all for it and thinking it was a little bit of an extreme response to Nik and Robin having lunch at the Outback lol. I was open to it. It was becoming increasingly obvious Jason and Robin weren't compatible anymore.
I heard the Gia sister story. I think that would have been good. I loved MR as Gia. But wasn't she recast around the time this would have happened? I don't recall the new actress being very popular, but I don't think the show put much effort into Gia after MR left. And, I guess ALW isn't really popular either, but Courtney was pretty decent when she was married to AJ.
I am not sure why they didn't have Zander be Carly's brother? It really wouldn't have changed much except it would have been creepy to chem test them like they did with TB's Carly. It would have made him more important to keep on the canvas though.
Why SBu was against it is anyone's guess. I've heard multiple things to it being personal, to him making comments that Carly was crazy and he didn't get why Jason would put up with her.
No it was earlier than that, when Riche was fired and Guza left at the end of 2000. Those were his plans for Gia and Zander retrospectively but JFP had other ideas, which included bringing on McTavish as head writer. Courtney she brought on cause she worked with ALW on AW. Guza was gone for over a year, and by that time JFP already created Courtney as Sonny's sister, and turned Zander into a sorta love interest for Carly.

What I heard was that SBu complained to Wendy Riche about the Jason/Carly plot, but when she wouldn't listen he went to Shapiro to get it changed. I think Guza wanted Carly with Jason and then Robin with Nik. There was a blurb in the magazines about a possible story with Nik and Robin falling in love only for Robin to find out The Cassadines having been holding Robert hostage the whole time he was "dead".
I read when they brought back Lesley there was talk of Rick and a recast Mike Webber.
Speaking of Cassadines, Tony Geary's Endgame plot line was butchered, and the end of it had to be rewritten because of 9/11, there were going to introduce a biotoxin, instead we got Stavros falling into a bottomless pit. From what I've read, Tony's script didn't even have Stavros coming back and was more focused on Luke and Stefan coming to terms.
Another big one dropped was Gia as Sonny's sister. Gia and Taggert's mother, Florence, was suppose to have this huge past with Mike. Gia was suppose to be the half sister of both, caught in the middle in a similar manner her love interest Nik was between the Spencer and the Cassadines. All this rich development was dropped because JFP wanted Courtney.
Zander was suppose to be SBr Carly's adopted brother. There was even dialogue with Zander and Emily early on about how he grew up in Florida.

I remember John saying on Oprah that AMC had wanted him originally back in the 80's to play the role of Jeremy, but he ended up doing Falcon's Crest instead but he always remembered AMC in the back of his mind. RIP

Actually, I recall reading that KMc did NOT want to go back to J&R as a condition of her return in 2005 and Patrick Drake was "born". True? I don't know. But it makes sense as I just could not see Robin as a doctor involved with a career murderer for hire. At the time, too, I remember Sam/Jason were huge back then and maybe KMc wanted to avoid the drama of it all.
Whatever the case, for me, it worked out great since I LOVED Patrick and Robin.
That all being said, I read that it was Burton's idea to bring the character of Robin back, so...thanks, I guess? LOL!
Kim did NOT say no. Kim expressed concern about coming in between such a strong, dynamic fanbase. Guza and Steve were both fine with the idea. Kim came back to do it but she was worried. She expressed those worries to Brian Frons who agreed with her. He loved KMc and he loved KeMo and he said you know, let's go another way with this. At the same time, the long-time friendship between Guza and Pratt had cooled off, considerably. Chuck wrote a treatment for a different story for Robin. One that was based loosely on Grey's Anatomy which was, at that time, knocking the top off television ratings. Pratt passed it on to Frons who liked it and said let's do this instead. Guza was so mad he almost blew a gasket and that's why we had Jason making it clear he would sacrifice Robin's life for Sam's during the virus epidemic, and that's why we had Robin standing outside Patrick's hotel room while Patrick and Carly were making out on the bed inside and that's why we had Patrick sleeping the nurse in the shower at the hospital. I forget her name. He hated Scrubs because it wasn't his plan and he hated Scrubs because it was Pratt's plan and the only reason we got a good story is because Frons knew how to exert power. People hated Frons and to be honest he deserved a lot of their wrath, but he is responsible for Scrubs.

1996 wasn't Broderick's first attempt at science fiction. LB also did that whole Damon Lazzare hypnotizing Silver story in the late 80's. Although you maybe right about it being network mandated given the popularity with DAYS at the time.

I never cared for Laurel, but I thought her murder storyline involving Jason, Michael etc was well done. I was watching some of those episodes and it's like two different shows. This was a good story, but then you had the Jamaica stuff with Noah/Julia/Mateo/Hayley/Taylor which wasn't interesting at all.

SOW at the time said that Nixon and Mctavish did not agree on the direction of the show (whatever that means) but didn't get into any other specifics.
As for Washam (and Broderick), they both left AMC around the time when McTavish was promoted to headwriter.

The thing I had trouble wrapping my head around during the original Kendall storyline was as to why Dimitri would go along with helping Kendall track down her rapist father, knowing how much it would upset Erica.

Not sure where to post this on the board, but this seemed like a good thread for it:
"I really like soap operas," says Lynch. "I got hooked when I was printing engravings at art school. This lady I was printing with was just completely addicted to two particular soap operas - Another World and The Edge Of Night - so I got hooked as well. I dug them. The frustrating thing about them is that they draw the smallest torments out forever. It works, but it´s frustrating. It think ours will be a hair less frustrating. We´ll see. We may fall into the same thing."

What was the best action sequence featured on GH in the '80s?
One that stand out in my mind is Luke running through the amusement park through rides and obstacle courses from the bad guys from one reason or another. Anyone remember where that is from?

I've heard about the Cortlandt family implosion. It's good to finally see the episodes. Interesting how they don't show Natalie or Ross for several shows afterward. Great way to build tension. Anyone recall when it's revealed that Julie saw everything? During the trial?
I saw a scene on munecojim's channel when Julie confronts Ross that she knows, but I'm not sure that's the first time that's revealed to the audience.

So I've not watched season 3 (waiting to binge it :). I have heard that a lot of the show isn't even set in Twin Peaks..and I have to wonder if perhaps there is some padding going on since the order was supposed to be for 9 episodes then got extended to 18 episodes.
Would that be accurate to assume that to be the case?
It's definitely slower pace. Some have complained there's not enough plot progression, but what I think Lynch is getting at is wanting you to experience the moment rather than just let it wash over you.

Has this interview with Kyle been posted? His comments about Cooper are interesting seeing as we haven't seen that character yet.

This goes back to power plays between the TPTB. Guza wanted Ric as Lily's brother, but since he was a FOJ, Jill wanted him as Sonny's brother to have more ties to the canvas. Jason and Courtney happened because Jill pushed for the idea, then Frons came aboard and agree with her. Guza was basically outnumbered. He did not care for Courtney and offed her the first chance he could.
