  1. Remember when the Nurses' Ball was a simple, understand event to remember those who'd been affected by AIDS? Now, the damn thing's bigger than the Oscars. It's tacky.
  2. I highly doubt it, lol.
  3. I agree!! SSH is the Lillian Gish of daytime. She can do more with one close-up than other actors can do with entire monologues.
  4. Frankly, @kalbir, I don't believe either actor would've worked. Born would've been too young, and Davies wouldn't have had enough gravitas, for lack of a better word. Then again, my memories and impressions of Christopher Bernau are so strong, I'm at a loss over who WOULD have made a good replacement for him as Alan. (Personally, I think the only actor who could've come closest was Jeremy Brett, and he passed away in '95!)
  5. Ya know, I'm starting to think Kim Delaney is not a well person.
  6. I agree. The truth is, Jack's "redemption arc" and subsequent romance(s) with Jennifer always left me feeling queasy. It's unfortunate that DAYS wrote him into such a corner, because Matthew Ashford was/is one of the show's best-ever actors, but Jack really needs to go and stay gone.
  7. Neither can I. Susan Seaforth Hayes isn't just some "old fogey." For years, she and her husband WERE the show. They were and are daytime royalty. I agree, especially now that we're calling a spade a spade and saying yes, in fact, E.J. did rape Sami.
  8. My favorite, if you could call any of those a favorite: "Two men fight for Jessica's love - and one of them is the Salem Strangler!" Way to sweeten the pot, VO dude, lol. Meanwhile, you could tell "It Will Excite You!" wanted so much to be another "Love in the Afternoon," but the dramatic head turns and goofy lip-syncs just make you think of the Solid Gold Dancers instead.
  9. IDK if I could see him as Alan, @P.J.. Of course, anyone would've been a better Alan recast than Ron Raines, lol. I agree. Whenever it came to super-couples and their often rabid fanbases, GL seemed to be above the proverbial fray. You knew it wasn't a big deal for a couple like Phillip and Beth to break up, because the break-ups often made sense and led to good, if not better, story. But that all changed with Danny/Michelle (or, with Matt/Vanessa, depending on how you look at it). That was the first time in all my years of following GL where I felt the viewers were holding TPTB hostage, so to speak; and I think it's because GL was struggling so much that they were glad to have ANY fans still watching.
  10. Thank you! Not thieves, merely...scavengers?
  11. V.O.: This week on DAYS: Diana is trapped inside a deadly boring virtual reality game - and only Roman's bare chest can save her!
  12. Thanks, @dc11786 and @Paul Raven. I figured LOL's writers wouldn't have pushed Bruce aside just so Paul and Van could reunite. Like you said, @dc11786, Paul got the Sam Reynolds Recast Personality Adjustment, lol.
  13. I think it was? IIRC, Sebastian lured her into some underground cell in Santo Domingo. Of course, what I REALLY remember was the whole storyline devolving into an excuse for more airtime for Nancy St. Alban and Jordi Vilasuso, lol.
  14. I'm honestly stunned to hear people liked Doug Hutchison/Sebastian. And I'm sorry the storyline didn't play out the way David Kreizman had anticipated, but how do you even go forward with a story like that if you don't know whether or not Peter Simon will return? At the very least, try and get Bob Gentry or Mart Hulswit to return!
  15. How did Paul die the second time? And was his and Van's second marriage a happy one? Or, as I suspect, did the writers turn Paul into an entirely different character in order to make viewers root for Van to return to Bruce?
  16. IMO, Tim Gunn WAS the show. He was self-effacing, warm and approachable; someone who could always encourage the best out of contestants; and the one personality who lent the show its' aura of knowledgeability, as well as its' most memorable catchphrase ("Make it work!").
  17. Thank you, @DRW50, for the tag!
  18. It's incredible to me how a soap that was so popular could produce so many promos and ads that were so cheesy.
  19. I'll also wager that fans at that time felt the story was too similar to the Lee Gantry tale.
  20. Either way, it came from Dollar Tree.
  21. Not necessarily. You could argue that, in the years away from Springfield (and from Alan), Elizabeth regained her self-confidence and self-respect, becoming a much-sought-after celebrity photographer like Annie Leibovitz and Herb Ritts.
  22. Roller-skating hookers. Need I say more?
  23. I guess ABC was going after the "Jewel in the Crown" demographic, lol.
  24. Lord, is this show ever toxic, lol.
