There's always been a split with all the contract cast first (usually in contract signing order, or close enough), followed by the recurring actors in any random order, not signifying seniority, so that's why we never know where the contract cast ends. They usually average 30-34ish on contract, so most likely the top 3 rows (33...30 we can see, 3 we can't) are contract and a majority of rows 4 & 5 are recurring.

So I am confused.
1. He's on the contract credits last week and this week on both NBC and Peacock.
2. He's on contract position in the photo chart above.
3. He was pictured in the 56th anniversary cast photo in November.
All 3 items means he is not gone forever, or perhaps at the most, he is off-screen for a bit just as his new contract started.

It reveals the contract cast for some point in 2022 (depending on the last time the photo was updated). This confirms that Sal Stowers (Lani) and Lamon Archey (Eli) are indeed no longer on contract (although Stowers is pictured later on the 3rd row, possibly signaling that she goes back on contract at some point next year). People used to have 3-episode (150 per year) and 4-episode (200 per year) guarantees. Now the max "Days" seems to be giving out is 2-episode (100 per year) guarantees.

Elizabeth Snyder, who was a "Days" breakdown writer in 2003, 2011-2012 and 2016-2021, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, a few days after her final "Days" episode aired.
Elizabeth F. "Betsy" Snyder passed away on November 9, 2021, after a brief illness. Born in 1961 in Buffalo, NY, Betsy lived most of her adult life in Pasadena, CA, where she had an Emmy-winning writing career. She is survived by her husband, Clay Marquardt, son Charlie and daughter Anne. She is also survived by her father, George L. Snyder, siblings Philip Snyder (Julie), Amy Snyder Doldo (John), George Snyder Jr. (Lidia) and Jane Snyder and step-siblings Catherine Luhr, Mary E. Luhr Johnson, Adair Luhr Kearney (Kevin), Julie Luhr, Ann Marie Luhr, John Paul Luhr Jr., Florine Luhr, and Eileen Luhr. She is predeceased by her mother, Anne Bradt Snyder, and stepmother, Leah Luhr Snyder. She will be greatly missed by the Nowaks, Hamlins, and Muglers of Buffalo, and Snyders of Ohio. A Buffalo-based celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Contributions may be made in her honor to the Writers Guild Foundation (https://www.wgfoundation.org/), which preserves and promotes the history and craft of writing for the screen.

Those are thanks to some Academy Player Directories I picked up through the years, which are sort of a "yearbook" for casting directors at the time, with all of the actor's headshots/agent info.
I just checked the one edition (1979) I have during McGurrin's acting time frame, but he is not in that, so can't help with his photo!
