I really loved their friendships. I didn't get why they got rid of Ben like they did either. The most heartbreaking for me was the aging up Little Marah. I only got two short years with her on the show. Ashley Peldon was awesome in her role. I don't get why they didn't get her back. Aging up some characters and not others took me so out of it. I keep forgetting to add that it's so funny how at first Blake is so pro-Dinah being with Hart and then tries to get Cassie and Hart together. LOL These writers.

I think the actress did a good job playing Annie. I just never got the love for Annie character. I guess being a character that went up against Reva. @alwaysAMC Notice how I said Roger treats Amanda after the trial. It gets worse to me after another incident where Blake is a victim and how their ending makes no sense. Plus, Roger would never be happy with Peter being in Minnesota! @Lujack4Ever I was always thinking Holly's brothers should come back until I read more of their background. The men in Holly's family were horrible!

No one else could be David after Monti Sharp. Gilly and Kat are gone and fauxDavid and Marcus are around? Marcus just became a replacement for Hamp. No thanks. @kalbir I guess I am one of the few that just never got the Annie hype. The character was always so over the top, try hard to me. I guess winners of the Emmys are people that just got to cry, bellow, scream their lines to win. @alwaysAMC Bridget and Peter leaving was another reason I just didn't care anymore. Bridget and Dylan really could have been a entertaining, solid couple. @P.J. Yet they fired Rachel (who found out via a magazine article) for Michelle. Go figure. @Mitch64 Reading @alwaysAMC recap, I bet Maureen would have been a ghost figure for Roger/Holly too.

Thanks. I didn't know that's how any of them thought about Holly/Roger as a major couple. Seemed like they had them at square one. Ellen Parker coming back would have been awesome! The show seemed bitter even after Michael died with the character that had been a major focus of the show since 1971. @Lujack4Ever Hamp's ex-wife would have been a no brainer for me to add to the canvass. Another actor the show didn't show appreciation for. @P.J. I forgot that Henry is Quint's dad. Was the actor who played Henry dead by the time Quint returned in 1996 or 1997? I watched an episode on the Archive, but cannot find on YouTube that had Hamp playing the flute and giving gorgeous roses to Gilly at the WSPR office in front of everyone. It was so lovely. I hate they had to ruin their relationship so dang fast! Reading about Sarah having a one night stand...barf! LOL

I was so mad when Newman decided to leave for 2 freaking years! We lost Harley/Little Marah's relationship and Little Marah came back aged up with another actress that didn't have 1/10th of her charisma. @kalbir I don't blame you with the FF. I try, but there are so many new characters that I don't care about and Harley returning without AC Mallet didn't sit right. Nadine murdered and it's treated with a yawn by Harley. @Mitch64 I have to slightly disagree with you about Roger/Holly/Amanda's storyline changing. I don't get why TPTB had such an issue with Michael, but that storyline we saw is what they wrote for when Michael was still on as they were very happy that Michael asked to be reduced to 2 days per week. Before that agreement, I agree that there was going to be a bigger storyline for Roger/Holly/Amanda. For example, we know that Amanda is jealous of how Roger drops everything for Holly and Blake/Chrissy. Roger finds out during the Reva trial that Amanda was the one that gave that tabloid reporter the inside scoop about Ross possibly getting to be the new DA. Roger gets really mad at Amanda. Amanda gets on the stand and ends up basically apologizing to Roger of her wanting to make him jealous was how the whole thing got to happen. We see Roger be always around Holly when Holly needs support. Her giving her kidney for baby Maureen, etc. Same exact storyline I believe they planned for Michael Zaslow. At the same time, Amanda takes the place of Alexandra as only being around to give some comedic one-liners and then disappear. The show was planning to focus less on the Spauldings, period, IMO. The backlash delayed their storyline with the black Spaulding, but I don't believe it was ever going to be a major storyline for Roger. Toby Poser said in an interview that she only told her fellow studio roommates and not the producers that she was pregnant when she was let go.

Yes. I really enjoyed 89/90. The Alan-Michael/Harley/Dylan triangle is really well done. Nadine is introduced, Billy returns, Holly is setting up her life with WSPR, Roger is revealed to be alive, and it really kicks off! Little Marah is one of my favorite characters. She is so adorable and a good child actress. So cute and lovable. That scene with the eggs is hilarious! Billy to Marah-What do you do all day? Marah-Nothing Billy- Oh, you take after your daddy. LOL! Too funny. I like how back then the storylines of the families were more grounded and real. I liked how they showed the Shayne family dynamic. I like that beginning in 89/90 we start to see the buildup of what the end of the Four Musketeers will be.

Wow. Just another example what the show thinks of major characters/actors. Poor Alan. Annie never was in love with him. He fell for it hook, line and sinker. The show fired Zaslow. They knew he wasn't coming back. With his majorly reduced contract of only 2 days a week (due to the stress of the amount of work they gave him in 96 with his speech issue), I think the storyline for Roger is what you are seeing, unfortunately. I like reading the re-caps, because it keeps things in perspective and fills in holes of episodes I skip through. So much filler.

@alwaysAMC If you think fauxRoger is bad now, it gets worse. Plus, he treats Amanda like a stranger to me. Amanda shined at the dinner party to announce Ross and DA/the stupid Annie/Reva fight; and then they treated her like Nola, provide a comedic line and disappear for weeks. I have never been a fan of Blake/Chrissy. I loved how Sherry Stringfield played her, but how she treated her parents drove me up the wall as she was an adult. Watching Holly and fauxRoger fawn all over her during the stupid Reva trial was eye roll inducing. Roger suddenly being a Bloss fan was the worst. That guy should have played fauxAlan. Roger should have been getting closer with the Spaulding family as Blake/Holly have betrayed him and Peter is gone. Philip became fauxAlan-Michael by hanging at the diner more than at Spaulding Enterprises. @alwaysAMC Harely didn't mention Nadine's murder? @Liberty City Nice find. Kim and Jordan always had great chemistry together.

You aren't wrong. It was basically focused on Michelle, Reva and Cassie by 1997/1998. The whole Jenna/Buzz/Jeffrey (her husband) was so boring. fauxMindy was gone at this point. fauxDavid, fauxEd, fauxRoger...ugh, it was horrible for me. When the one actor I really care about (Michael) is gone, it's just not fun anymore. It was good to see Jordan Clarke, but his return was handled so rough to me. @kalbir Thank goodness for the FF! LOL I tried the rest of 1997 and hit the FF so much. @P.J. LOL You sure hate Nadine! I wish she stayed over Buzz. If I had my way, Nadine would have first became a real estate agent then a real estate broker...making mega bucks herself. In watching bits and pieces of 1992/1993/1994/1995/1996/1997, I see how good Melissa Hayden was and how the show should have focused more on Bridget. Bridget should have had a full-blown love triangle going. She seemed more attractive than annoying Dinah to me. Too bad the actors they picked for Hart after the 1st one, don't have good chemistry with her. I would have had her have a bit of a closer relationship with Roger, to cause the friction needed with the Chamberlins.

That's true. They sort of painted themselves in a corner for that stupid storyline. Hart being killed, Bridget leaving with Peter. It all seems so pointless now. In 97 there are so many characters gone and so many new ones. You stopped at the right time. 1994 was not good and it got worse, IMO.

Just to give an example of how bad things got in 1997 (the same year Michael Zaslow left the show in April 1997), there is a dinner scene that has Amanda speaking and a dude with grey hair beside her saying absolutely nothing! Is that supposed to be Roger? Roger saying nothing? Seriously? Horrible writing. Was this because of Michael's agreement to be cut to two days of work instead of 4 and Dennis inherited it? Nothing like the 1990 small dinner party I posted a couple of posts back that was so funny & also showed the tension with Phillip's resentment of Roger acting as if he were head of the house. I also noticed that in the scene where Amanda and Roger are at a boring dinner held by Blake for the 'grandparents' that Amanda and Roger barely touch, and this is after Amanda & Roger got back together with a real engagement. Michael's version of Roger always made sure to be caressing Amanda, being very close, etc. in scenes like this. Makes no sense. @alwaysAMC Wow, that makes it worse! Billy had to make a fool of himself going after Cassie. Did they even try to have Billy go after Vanessa? @Speed Racer I am glad you found the Vault. I put archive by mistake.

@Mitch64 I guess her messing up with committing a crime for Ross' Senate bid and her and Alan Michael messing up and having Jenna win the case would be a clue. LOL @anthonymolchan When was the Harley's Angels? Did it end in 98 when Jenna died? @DeeVee What happened with Nola in 98 and after? I know Bridget left (dumb move). @Mitch64 Still trying to wrap my mind around Holly being that evil.

Does anyone know why Holly sent Harley a basket with poisoned fruit in 1998? I was reading a recap and Blake went to Holly asking for $50,000 but not Roger herself?! Another example how dumbed down Blake became. This soap is so stupid at this point, I just can't help but laugh. The money must have been so good, Liz wouldn't quit.

Roger, Blake and Holly had ripple effects on a lot of stories that were well thought out. Speaking of bad year, 1998. Why did Holly and her brother Ken hate Harley so much? I saw a clip of Ken and it was so bad. Also, reading the background on the Norris family, both her brothers were worse than Roger!

Thank you for posting. Seems like this review could have been what happened in mid 1994 and after for me. Poor Lillian...HB and Hawk? Yuck! @DeeVee Would only books go over in detail the storylines of all the years the show was on? Is there a good resource that covers all the storylines in detail? I know that there was this guy that was so into Guiding Light and soaps that he did a research paper on it and grew up to write articles/reviews of soaps for a living. I bet he has all the magazines that go over the storylines for the 1970s that we will never get to see. I read that Procter & Gamble got rid of their Production company, so there is no one to even ask for episodes not captured on VCR. @anthonymolchan I read about that here somewhere, but all I recall is that Michelle wasn't named Michelle when she was born?
