  1. I found scans of very old articles that basically covered whole episodes on a blog on Tumblr. I haven't been on Tumblr in several decades! There was one where they talk about how Holly refused to give Christina the broach (owned by his deceased Mother) Roger got for a gift. I guess Christina was 2 at the time. Poor Roger! Holly didn't want Roger as part of Christina's life and wanted back with Ed (I don't get why). I think I found the 'picture' of Jordan Clarke as that Dr, and it is just a very small pic of the actor himself and talked about his background. There was also a scan with a nice picture of Michael Zaslow in 1975 and talked about his wedding at the house in Connecticut. It mentioned that Charita went to the wedding. Here is the link to the blog Afternoon TV Stars - November 1975 - The Guiding Light – @vintagesoaparchives on Tumblr
  2. Is there a scan here of the Soap Opera Digest article of the behind the scenes of Guiding Light in 1977? The link on the blog didn't work. It said that there is a picture of Jordan Clarke playing a different character named Dr. Tim Ryan! I have to see these pictures!
  3. I read that Marland liked writing the women characters. He created Nola and I believe Alexandra, correct? Reading summaries of storylines from the 70s and 80s, Ed sure was a mess! He'd start drinking over everything. I wouldn't want anything to do with him. There are no summaries of Roger's storyline when he first got on other than being hired to date Holly. Watching the 79/80 vids, Roger constantly needed to be with a woman. Wish they got more into that issue. Him nor Reva could not just be single. LOL Only guy I would be interested in would be Frank. Maybe, due to the show not letting people even have a relationship for at least a year before having them divorce/annul the marriage. @Mitch64 There are so many filler characters, I can't keep up!
  4. Yes. It wasn't looking good at all. I would be horrified seeing myself on tv with it. However, Roger would have gray one day and then be basically all brunette the next. LOL It was like whiplash. Some unpopular opinions: I thought the actress that played Hope wasn't good. She whispered so much, I could barely hear her. The storyline on the island was boring. Reva and Alan had no chemistry. People say that Roger & Mindy didn't have chemistry, but I thought they did. I didn't see the chemistry between Reva and Alan. Every time Josh was with someone, Reva had to be too. She can't be single? Now just some observations: It is so hard to still not get what is being said on a lot of the German dubbed videos and not hear the actor's real voices. I think it's horrible that there is no way to watch full storylines for a character from each year. I was trying to see the storyline of Blake when she first got on and noticed that they tried to pair her up with Johnny! They were also trying to match up Mindy and Frank! I thought the scene with Suzanne Deveraux and Roger in July 91 wasn't done that well. It's supposed to be some mystery woman in bed with Roger. Roger might as well be talking to himself as she said nothing. No chemistry at all. That character just disappeared after Daniel is killed. Dumb and wasted character.
  5. I wonder what Alan's and Roger's last scene was together in 1980. A lot of the time, Roger is mentioned but not shown.
  6. Not all in one video. It's broken up. Did Douglas Marland write this?
  7. Nope. It doesn't show his very first scene. It doesn't cover whole storylines. Just the basics until his mask is removed. BTW, the show wouldn't let Michael use the old VHS video to raise funds for ALS. Those people were cold blooded, IMO.
  8. @DeeVee The voice in the head seemed to make it more realistic to me. Since, only Alan was in the room. There was a scene where Roger went to Alan's office while Diane was there. Diane had stolen the affidavits from Roger's place (I don't know if there are any YouTube vids of that) and Roger didn't want to say anything in front of Diane (not knowing she stole them from his place). Roger started to fondle an envelope as if to give a signal to Alan not to mess with him as he had the affidavits Alan tampered with. It was a well done scene! So much said without saying anything about the affidavits! Sigh! I wish I could watch that whole storyline from beginning to end, not just some episodes here and there. So much more interesting than anything in the late 90s. I didn't know that Ed married Holly while drunk in Las Vegas just like Billy & Nadine! Was that ever mentioned before?
  9. This morning, I watched an episode that aired on December 14, 1979. The episode where Alan finds out that Mike is having Roger's body exhumed. I wish there was a video made of every storyline Roger was in from the very beginning on April 1, 1970. It was also interesting how they let us hear Alan's thoughts. He was freaking out that Roger wasn't in the hiding place.
  10. @soapsuds That is a awesome find. What was the relationship with Alan and India like? It still amazed me that the only time India and Roger had interaction was in 1990! I just watched the famous February 4, 1980 episode where Roger kidnaps Rita and takes her to the cabin. Then it reminded me of when Dinah drove Roger to the house he bought for Holly/Peter/Hart. He was actually more menacing when Dinah took him. LOL I read something referring to that but didn't know it happened in 1993! It was one of the reasons Michael continued on Guiding Light though. That and his daughters. So many heartbreaking things happened to Michael. His life was a soap opera, IMO!
  11. During lunch, I was able to find some original posts in 1998. I wanted to see people's reaction while the show was still airing. I found out that Fiona was very outspoken about wanting his illness incorporated into Rogers storyline. That on OLTL, he had scenes I haven't seen on YouTube. In fact, it's even harder to find full episodes of that soap for me. So now I am on a mission to find those scenes. I also learned that he and Susan were on Good Morning America in July 1998. To answer about Kim Zimmer, she and Michael had no scenes together in 1983 on OLTL. She did with Dorian though. @Contessa Donatella That is so awesome that you were able to attend some of the fundraisers!
  12. I can only go with what the book said and Michael was fired with just a very tiny stipend. He still was trying to figure out what was wrong with him (he had ALS brought up, but there still wasn't a final diagnosis). He personally said himself that the show was lying. Michael stayed quiet until he couldn't any more. Then he went to OLTL and GL wouldn't let him. I don't blame the show for re-casting him. But, how they treated Michael when he asked from the start for them to incorporate his illness into the show (he didn't care if it was cancer, stroke or whatever) and they flat out said no. That tells me that they were heartless. How they reacted to his death and his character told me they didn't care. Thankfully, his fellow cast mates and fans were better than the runners of the show. They were the ones that took part in raising money for ZazAngles. It was about the kind people that paid for Helena and Marika's private school. It was the fans that took the time to write to Michael and give him encouragement. In the end, for me it was about Michael showing that it's about how you react. Raising awareness and treating people with kindness. His wife should especially be given a lot of credit for the time and effort in keeping his memory alive and finding a cure.
  13. @Contessa Donatella Yes. I guess this was the beginning of the message forums when he got to tell his side. I wish there more from Michael's perspective in the book. I wish we could see the original posts.
  14. @GL Oldtimer This dumb tablet won't let me edit who I send this to. Sorry in advance. In the book, Michael started seeing a speech therapist right after he started freaking out about him noticing a change in his speech. Michael agreed to a cut in pay to get fewer scenes to lower his anxiety. He asked them to incorporate his speech issue into his storyline. Michael was fired before being diagnosed & told him to keep quiet. The show lied & said he was on medical leave. Thankfully, social media made it possible for him to finally tell the truth. The show stopped all communication with Michael Zaslow after he was let go and stopped paying him. Michael had a horrible illness and no pay. He had to fight back. It just made me mad that the actors didn't team up and say how they were treating Michael was WRONG!
  15. Yeah. That whole storyline is so stupid. That Detective Cutter and Nadine being murdered and people acting like nothing happened after a few months.
  16. Wow! During lunch today, I started watching the storyline Michael Zaslow had on One Life to Live and who do I see with Dorian, but Kim Zimmer! LOL I also listened to an interview with Mark Derwin who played A.C. Mallet and how he and Michael were good friends and he had a blast playing that A.C. Mallet vs Roger Thorpe with zingers they would make up. He was just about to join One Life to Live when right when Michael died in December of 98.
  17. They didn't write him out right away though and he was part of the Beth is Alive storyline. I think that had more to do with people not liking the replacement and it did make it possible for Roger and Alexandra's relationship. There would be no way Alan would allow that.
  18. @alwaysAMC Don't you wish that they started the Amanda/Roger teaming up in early 1996? It would have caused even more drama with the whole Blake pregnant by two fathers and Amanda's background with Ross. Amanda and Roger had a lot in common too. Both even sang for a living and played the piano. Although, it was hard to watch...I still cherish every episode Michael was in. I think he was finally getting happier with his storyline, but was personally depressed because he's a perfectionist. @DeeVee Yes. But, to defend the writers, they had lost a big character in Alan. I blame the storyline in 1994/1995 when they had Roger and Holly basically living together. Then in 95 it seemed like they were back to square one. IMO, Blake and Roger's relationship was totally one sided by the time Liz played the part. I don't recall one storyline where she totally supported Roger at all. @Mitch64 Speaking of Reva. When looking up old promos in the shows to compare how they were done from each decade, I noticed in the 80s that when they brought up Reva, it wouldn't even mention the storyline for her. Just saying something like 'See Reva living life' or some ridiculous line.
  19. @DeeVee That's because Michael Zaslow really didn't think he was returning. There's a reason his character was written to be that scary. He was there for 6 months to permanently kill his character. I forgot to add that the show started the character of Roger April 1 and ended April 1 when he went off the cliff. Michael's last episode in 97 was in March. I still don't get why they just didn't have a mystery illness with him being found by either Holly or Amanda on April 1. Then think of a storyline.
  20. In my watching Roger and Amanda team up, there was a scene with Roger and Leo talking about how shocked they were that both Amanda and Victoria gave up the money. Even Jenna"s Dad only got a lame $5,000.00 for his invention. I wouldn't even step into the Spaulding mansion. It's like it's cursed. BTW, the Roger in the 70s scared me. That scene with Roger taking Rita to the cabin was like watching a horror movie.
  21. I saw it on my Kindle. I tried the embedding link, and it didn't work. @alwaysAMC That Holly/Roger elevator scene and the Amanda/Roger storyline is what I wish happened starting in early 96 instead of way into November of 96 when Amanda and Roger teamed up. Instead of 97 when Michael's speech problem was getting worse. I would have dealt with Michael's illness by him basically having Vanessa's story of a mystery illness. I still do not get why they did all that storyline for Vanessa. @DeeVee Yes. I saw plenty of those clips of the Fun House clip. Even a scene where he took her to this cabin while she was pregnant. However, this scene they showed was of him kissing her on the cheek in the bathroom.
  22. It was a great tribute. It makes me want to now find parts of his storyline as David on One Life to Live. It also showed a clip of him on Law & Order. Did Lenore play Rita? That was a cool short clip. Makes me wish I could find clips of every episode he was in!
  23. I thought I found the link to the promo. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DL2v8-ZOBVc/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Although from 1980, it still gives me a 70s feel. Are there any 1980s promos and 90s promos to major storylines? I saw one for Roger from 1996 where he is saying he has to kill Dinah and is going crazy. I didn't care for the ones from the 90s.
  24. Looking back, it seems so strange how the show had Bridget agree to Nadine's insane idea and not tell Maureen. I guess that's why I never really invested in Soaps after a certain point. One thing I dislike about GL is that they build a relationship, and it ends 2 seconds after it's established. However, they did establish from the get-go relationships well. This morning I saw a old 1980 promo of Roger and Holly in some underground cave and it looked more like a horror movie than a soap! I wish I knew how to post it here.
  25. @TheyStartedOnSoaps Thank you for the information about Parlato. That was very kind of him to do, and I don't blame him for taking on the role. I just don't think he fit and I don't get why actors were so afraid to speak out more what was done to Michael. @Contessa Donatella Yes. Brynn was a wonderful friend to Michael. She even took him to appointments and moved to New York to help him! It was also so nice to read about Sherry Stringfield. How the family attended her wedding and Marika was her flower girl at 16. I am glad he was there for that. @Paul Raven Thanks for the treasure trove of information here. It would be fun to read the storylines from that time in Michael's life. That is also true that what happened to Michael to keep quiet might have been the same for Chris Bernau. Wouldn't surprise me at all.
