I didn't miss anything, but it looks like the 1/22/91 GL "breakout" episode would most likely have been re-aired the following day. On 1/22/91, GL only aired for 22 minutes (3-314 & 321-329PM). My guess is they re-aired it the next day (and even then there were a lot of preemptions). On 1/23/91, it only aired from 339-4PM (21 minutes), so actually the second half of the 1/22/91 episode that didn't air anywhere.

So I would say 1/22/91 is the likely full preemption.

The information that I have shows GL airing the first half of GL on 1/21 and then re-airing that same episode the next day on 1/22. As you stated, there were preemptions on both days so between those 2 days, they aired the 1/21 episode.

Agree. We posted at the same time.  Colleen clarifies the timing in SOD, see my post just above yours.

Also she said in that SOD interview that she's been trying to learn how to navigate her way around the CBS studios building.  Plus lots of Y&R and B&B cast continue to post pics of themselves inside and outside the CBS studios building.

So much misinformation is posted on here as fact.

  3. @JAS0N47 Thanks for the demos. I know you’re just posting the books but some numbers don’t make sense and I’m curious how you interpret them. Again, you just post the Nielsen numbers. In May, 1982, I do not believe for a second that Texas was beating GH in the women demos. GH had 3X the audience of Texas. These numbers need some explanation.

  4. Fascinating, Jason to see the demos. If I’m reading the Feb 1981 numbers right, Edge of Night, which had less than half of GH’s total viewers, has a higher women 25-54 and 35-64 viewership than GH. And OLTL,AMC and Ryan’s Hope were beating GH in many key demos. This was all during the GH heyday when they were solidly #1 in households.

  5. Anyone who believes that Jensen Buchanan was clueless about what she signed is clueless. GH was her fourth soap. Jensen is known for making bad decisions. Not defending JFP here but Jensen was no shrinking violet. She knew what she was doing.

Guiding Light in the top 5 for the first time since late 1985. The Friday cliffhanger was a masked Roger crashing Phillip and Blake's wedding and the following Tuesday Springfield learned that Roger survived the fall off the cliff in Santo Domingo.

The Roger crashing the wedding scenes were filmed in Another World's Brooklyn studio. GL's studio couldn't accommodate the swinging of the vine so they went on 'location' to another soap studio and the ratings paid off.

I found this newspaper article tonight for the 10/19/87 week that is missing. This confirms the rankings (1st to 8th place) that VR posted are correct!  Unfortunately, no article for the missing 12/14/87 week is in any newspaper.

Jason, I have a screenshot from another site from the April, 1988 issue of Daytime TV Magazine that matches up the ratings from 10/19 - 10/23/87. Remember that magazine dates were always way ahead, thus the April issue reporting ratings from October. I’m not posting that screenshot for privacy reasons. The ratings and shares for that week were: GH 7.8/27 AMC 7.6/27 OLTL 7.4/27 Y&R 7.4/28 DAYS 6.4/23 ATWT 6.1/22 GL 5.5/19 B&B 4.9/17 AW 4.6/17 SB 4.5/16 LOV 4.2/16 RH 3.0/12

And the 12/14 - 12/18/87 week from another source:

    AMC 8.2/27 GH 8.1/26 OLTL 8.1/26 Y&R 7.9/28 DAYS 6.8/22 ATWT 6.7/22 GL 5.9/19 B&B 5.3/18 SB 5.2/17 AW 5.1/17 LOV 4.2/15 RH 3.2/12

Greg Rikaart is actually very nice in real life and not at all queenish. He might be doing this thing called acting when playing Leo.

Greg is a sweeheart. I LOVE the Leo character and obviously so do many viewers or they wouldn't keep writing for Leo. And Greg was asked back to Y&R so they love him over there. Greg is great. He's fine and he'll keep doing fine on both shows.

Thank you @JAS0N47 this is amazing!

GL may have had classics on 12/25/98 and 1/1/99 - can anyone confirm? Soap Central says GL did not air for the holiday on 1/1/99 and has a blank for 12/25/98

The notes that I have show that GL reran their 1995 Christmas episode on 12/25/98 and 1/1/99 was a repeat of the 7/16/93 episode that heavily featured Roger Thorpe.
