  1. Or better yet just, just ignore that  stupid retcon that they weren't identical twins.

yep, I think that's it. She had plastic surgery to look like Steffy and the baby she had with Finn is Phoebe's, and Steffy+Finn this whole time has been Phoebe, etc, etc. and we're getting a Steffy+Liam+Hope retread when everything is found out and the real Steffy returns. LOL

  2. GL

Sean.  He was on the island with Reva.  Quickly upgraded to contract and given history with Ben Warren.  His ex-wife faked her death and he was on the lam for it and Ben was involved with it.  Sean quickly disappeared after that.

Sugar Hill.  The record producer working with Jesse and Dru.  He was gonna be a spoiler in the relationship but Taye Diggs hit it big and was gone.

Sean Reardon.  Bridget and Matt's dad appeared for about a week.  His character was kinda similar to Buzz's

Cain.  Originally Cain and Reva was going to be a Beauty and the Beast type romance but they decided to make Cain a villain.

Harley's Prison Cellmate played by Linda Dano.  Seemed like there was a possibility  of her sticking around for awhile like Abby's celibate Selina years prior.  Dano's character mentioned having a daughter.

J Chamberlain.  First of all he should've kept him as AJ Cjambetlain and developed his character more. Yet another wasted legacy character like Ben Reade.

    ATWT

Bryan Montgomery.  So much wasted potential.  He could've been blinded or in a coma to get a similar effect.

Evan Walsh IV and Dani.  More wasted legacy characters.

Camille.  She should've been John Dixons daughter.  They were hinting at it so hard with no payoff.

Judi Evans character that had a fling with Holden.  She really gave a filler character some serious presence.  I would've  preferred her sticking around over recasting Lilly.

  3. Also, B&B introduced a vocal version performed by Dionne Warrick over scenic beauty shots.

It was always cool when EON, SFT and Y&R would play the vocal version of the theme over the end credits.

I remember Search did these fairly often in the late 70's but for the others it was quite rare.

I wonder why and when the vocal theme was used?

  4. 12:30 et is a death slot unless Y&R.  Always thought it was a brilliant programming move for y&r to straddle the 12 and 1pm hours. Plus at 1:30 the other networks are mid-show.  Another network should've followed, strengthen the 12:30 slot.

Best timeslot would be 3pm.  GH had great success in that slot and GL had the slot for years.

Also Santa Barbara had a steady growth rate during its first few years.  Kids coming home to their moms watching and at some point they are likely to get invested.  Thats how I fell in love with GL, it was background noise as a child but became a part of life.

  5. GL

1979: Marland comes on.  and will go on to introduce several soon to be GL staples.

1983: Pam Long comes on, develops/expands the Lewis clan. Reva.   Basically sets the stage for the rest of the show's run.

1984: The phasing out of the Bauers begins in full force.  GL will never be the same as the newer characters continue their dominance on the show.

1989.  Roger Thorpe returns.  70s characters Roger and Holly immediately click with the almost  completely different cast.

1993.  Killing off Maureen.  I personally had no problem with it and found it well done.  Poignant soap deaths with lasting impact are few and far between.

1998.  Clone Saga and the Santos crime family.  The following year (or two?) would be the infamous San Cristobel crew would be introduced.

2003.  After a strong six-months under interim writers, tbe whole show is "blown-up" by the incoming John Conboy.  Despite some glimmers of hope in late 2004 and 2005 the show is basically circling the drain.

2008.  Peapeck, basically hospice care.  GL is clearly dying and you knew the end was just a matter of time.

  6. GL just couldn't keep its momentum going for more than a half decade. 1980-85, 90-97, 2002-04 and finally 04-06.

    Objectively I would say:

1970s: Days of Our Lives, with Bill Bell generating momentum and honing his signature style.  Young and Restless as runner-up.

1980s: General Hospital. Fantastic blend of romance and adventure. A formula that most others would try to emulate.  I gather 80s Days (and mid-80s AW) came the closest to.

1990s. Young and the Restless started the decade really strong with the Sheila and Phyllis stuff and Jack leaving Victor for dead.  GH would also be a contender which is amazing cause it was a much different tone than it was in the 80s or 2000s as it was more grounded with Labine's refocus on (GASP!) the hospital.

2000s.  I heard that One Life to Live was excellent during this decade so I'll give it to them. I'd say As the World Turns with Chris Goutman was actually the best until sometime around '06 or so when the wheels started to come off.  B&B was also kinda strong during this decade, I'm sad to say.

2010s.  General Hospital with nods to the Ice Princess.  Frank and company tried to revisit the big adventure era the best they could with modern financial realities.

2020s. Days of Our Lives are actually trying while Y&R is basically ASMR at this point.

  7. Ron Raines Alan was a mustache twirling clown.  CB portrayed the role with such class.  Even Daniel Pillon(?) was better in the role than RR, so of course RR was in the role the longest!

i knew the show's birthday was this month, the show would've turned 85 this coming Tuesday.  SAD.

No problem. Yeah I can understand how some of that would not draw you in, much of the start of 89 in uneven in quality. Somehow by the late summer to fall of 89 there's a bit of a shift in tone with the show (when you start seeing Robert Calhoun's name in the credits) and the show is suddenly firing on all cylinders after that.

Joe Wilmore was such a terrible fit for the show as EP.

Best for them to start after Sonni/Solita.

Honestly, I didn't even know he was on GH until now. Was that before or after he was on SB?

I think it was before, his GH stint was the Summer of '85.

I'm guessing his character could've easily have been redeemed ala Sean if the character took off. I could see a Preston/Holly pairing long term if ES didn't leave the show that fall. He was written out abruptly after kidnapping Holly.
