  1. GL.  For the longest time I shopped Michael and bill but Rylan & Cosgrove changed my mind.  Bill and lizzie had IT and was one of the bright spots during the final years. The last Michelle was so bland, they had a recast liked up right before the cancellation announcement.

    Ross and Blake

    Rick and Abby

    Phillip and Beth

    Harley and Gus

    Quint and Nola

    AW.

    Cass and Kathleen

    Felicia and Zayne

    Jake and Vicky

    Marler and Jamie

    GH

    Robert and Holly

    Frisco and Felicia

    Anna and Duke

    Luke and Laura

    Alan and Monica

    Jake McKinnon -90s

    General Hosptal

    Luke Spencer- late 70s/early 80s

    Frisco Jones- mid 80s

    Robert Scorpio- late 80s

  3. GL: Phillip and Harley's son Zack was originally named Alan, after Alan's heartatteache at the time.

GL: Danny Santos was originally referred to as Denny.

GL: Nola and Floyd's daughter Anastasia was originally named Kelly after Kelly Nelson who she tried to pin the parentage on.

    GL: Christina "Blake" Thorpe

GL: I remember Michelle was originally named Berta after grandma Bert.

They shouldn't have de-aged Tucker then because it's ridiculous that they're supposed to be the same age.

It's not like she was the only person to play the role.  Plus I doubt she'd want to come back for a long-ish stint between retirement and the state of soap-writing in general.  Let her retire in peace.

I don't think 5 days a week is excessive at all, I think it still works, but IMO a lot of the other soaps could benefit from being a half hour instead of an hour

I think soaps are fine a long as networks are invested, it seems like CBS is with YR/Bold, ABC only if they don't find something to replace GH

15 minutes ×5 streaming.  Reduce cost and hopefully provide tighter product.

There was a time when NBC was very high on AW & down on DOOL. But, later, NBC actively tried to get rid of and/or to kill AW! P&G had to battle them at some points along the way. I think after they decided they liked DOOL that they made efforts to support them. They started out very high on GEN but they had personnel changes & the new people didn't get what it was even & they canceled it when technically it had had another full year to its contract.

Disclaimer: i was personally fond of Another Wotld throughout the 80s so the following is purely based on the show"s ratings and stagnant viewership.

I think more than anything, NBC has just had bad luck with soaps.  NBC could've easily have replaced in the mid '80s a year or two after Santa  Barbara.  AW was an injured horse in pain that needed put out of its misery.  NBC was number one in prime time and I would argue that they should've tried a flashy new soap at 2.  After all SB was steadily growing during its first few years which was eventually halted by BTS issues.

I think they should've re-worked the failed 1986 prime-time soap pilot Covenant.  Conceived as a blend of Dallas and Dark Shadows by producers of Knots Landing.

According to Cady McClain herself, she stated: "I have heard a lot of rumors, too, [by the way], but I am sorry to tell you that I have absolutely nothing to tell you! It is lovely to be considered for any part, of course. I know it is odd when actors switch shows, but from my own experience, it can be a good stretch for the actor to play a new part, and ultimately good for the show."

Beth Ehlers even brought up McClain's name with having a talk with Guiding Light producers in terms of a recast for the role.

While she would've rocked the role, I'd prefer her to go back full time to ATWT.

Would Michael Zaslow's return as Roger Thorpe on GL qualify as amped up?

Absolutely.  I almost mentioned him but I interpretated the question as that  there had to be a recast in-between.  Like Tognoni as Phyllis or any other recast that is replaced by "the real one."

And the queen of amped up returns.. Brenda Dickson as Jill on Y&R.

  9. Instances where an actor could be holding back a character's potential.

    GL

Rick Bauer.  There was more potential for the character but he was slways regulated to sidekick or a familiar face.  So many times I think another actor could knock it out of the park.  Examples being the back history with Annie, the marriage to Abby and the heart transplant plot.  As a legacy character of the once core family he should've been way more front burner.

Also Harley.  When Ehlers left they certainly should've recast, SORAS at least one of her sons and appropriately recast Daisy.  Whether you liked Harley or not, she was a big tent pole of the show.  If written out, Harley needed to be gradually phased out and not dismissed with throwaway lines about being in Greece.

  10. Does anyone have any thoughts why DOOL and AW expanded but outside of a test episode, the Doctors wasn't?  Was the test episode poorly received?  You would think a solid three-hour/three show block would do better than having a bloated AW.  2:30. then later 2pm was a death blow for AW, as it would linger for twenty more years but never again really be competitive.

Didn't Michelle stand trial for murder at one point? I always thought Mike would be there as her lawyer, and a suitable explanation should have been made of Ed not being there because he never would've abandoned his family. Of course tptb didn't care about the Bauers, and because of age discrimination. Josh and Reva were the few over a certain age guaranteed to get stories

All these years later and it still makes me mad, how they ignored so much of the show's very rich history.
