  1. Y&R should bring on some more of Snapper and Chris's kids or grandkids.  Greg Snapper could've had grown kids or grandkids by now.

If Paul appears more, you could give him nephews or nieces via brother Steven or half siblings via father Jim Bradley aka Carl Williams and his wife.

Plus why are there so many next generation characters just collecting dust?  Fen could be a spoiler to Summer/Kyle for one example.  Reed should be active on canvas and they definitely should actually use Faith and Moses.

For General Hospital there's lots of options like Tommy Hardy.  For Days. Tommy Horton could've remarried and have grown kids out there, since he hasn't been on canvas in like 40 years.

For Bold, there's no reason why RJ, the one child of Brooke and Ridge should not be driving major story.  It's practically a crime.  Have him get I to a rivalry with half brother/cousin Jack.

Lots of missed opportunities out there to build on legacy instead of creating one rando character after another.

No No NO to Giddens. I'd take Dena Higley over him. lol

No to both.  Higley had like six boring runs.  Jamey is at least a passionate fan, and he loved Another World so I have to give that to him.  Loved his podcast, they had some good insight and often his ideas were more exciting and history based than what was on the screen.

Is Richard Culliton still alive? I would pair him with a newer writer. A fresh perspective.  Maybe Culliton and Giddens or Culliton and some other promoted writer.

Sorry but stodgy 60s melodrama is not going to win fans over, you need flash and excitement.  That's what made 80s and 90s soaps so memorable and infectious.

On The Locker Room's Port Charles Reunion, Jon Lindstrom talks that when he auditioned for GH's Ryan Chamberlin in 1992, it came down to him & Michael O'Leary (Rick Bauer, GL) for the role. Jon got the job of course.

That's hilarious.  On one hand it would've kept him from returning to GL and hamming it up as Rick.  On the other hand without MOL available I know Rick would have gone the way of Mike and Hope Bauer.  No recast or return.

It you don’t have a clip of a character like Lauren Fenmore wearing mirror shades in you Some Like It Hot promo, then you can keep it.

By the way, does anyone know about this apparent fundraiser that has been happening on YouTube for the Museum of Classic Chicago Television. What’s going on with this?

I believe it's just an ongoing effort.

  5. Agree with the above.  Dinah and Jonathan were breaths of fresh air.  Sure they chewed some scenery but their often passionate performances gave the show sparks of life during the last years.  While I was indifferent towards Otalia, CC turned in solid work and made it click with viewers.  I was so excited when Phillip returned and I thought his return was actually written well.  Plus Phillip chucked Grady off a cliff (IIRC?) which I'm sure was also a bright spot for many of us GL fans.  They also humanized Edward somewhat giving him a dead daughter and IIRC a grandchild that Marina adopted.

AW's final half year had some seeds for potential.  Felicia in a quirky storyline with new Beau Sergei which would've fit well in 80s AW.  Cass in a front-burner storyline with Lover Lila and her ex/baby daddy Matthew.  The Lumina ball was intriguing but that Jordan stark plot was weird, but would've also probably fit in 80s AW.  Carl's return with his intentions questioned, whether he was reformed or went back to his villainous 80s ways.  I recall Josie and Gary being the show's last supercouple-esque pairing. Paulina's newly found daughter Remy should've later been paired with a SORAS'd Steven Frame.

I wouldn't call Bill Bell's decision to ditch the Brooks and Foster families "suicidal".   He was just ready to reinvent his show with some families who hadn't been recast a zillion times and married to each other a zillion times.  Once the dust settled, he found himself in a much better position than he'd been in previously.  (In fact, it's a shame the same thing hasn't been done again.)

Absolutely.  He could've just "patched" the show with more recast but reinventing the show was a brilliant move.  Especially in this case when it was the show creator doing it in a thought out manner.

If Days would get cancelled it it’s not possible coz it was renewed until 2023. Not that I want Days gone but that show just stinks right now!

if Anthony Geary would return to GH again!

Ron finally getting fired from the soap world. I never hated a guy as much as him. He was crap on Oltl and he was even worse on GH. But he outdone himself on Days to become even worse than before. Just kill his career already ffs

Not saying Ron is great, but who would be a good replacement.  Y&R also needs a new writer like yesterday.  The two shows should just swap HWs 😆

    What would surprise me?

Y&R : Mary Jo returning amid all this Keemo and Diane history re-hash.

-Heather Tom returning as Victoria since they undid the Phyliss recast

-Drucilla returning since CBS seems to be bringing back blasts from the past

-Sheila crossing over and facing Lauren again since she's run her course over supposedly killing Finn on B&B

    DAYS getting cancelled

    B&B

    - Susan Flannery making a guest appearance as Stephanie's ghost

I'm still surprised they never thought of revisiting the Mary Jo plot or give her a grown kid to stir up stuff.

  8. GL and AW strong with friendships.  GH and AW strongest with humor and adventure.  DAYS also excelled at adventure.  Y&R and ATWT were pretty good at workplace drama.  GL excelled at workplace drama during the late 80s and early 90s with Spaulding. Lewis Oil the Journal and WSPR.  Can't comment on the other ABC soaps.

Also Y&R was particularly good with suspense and Psycho maniacs: David Kimble, Sheila, Michael stalking Cricket, Mary Jo Mason.  Part of that goes for the more Gothic, melodramatic tone/feel that Y&R had back in the day.

  9. GL during the final months was the Shayne Lewis recast.  After five or so attempts they finally had a take on the character that clicked with audiences. Bill and Lizzie where another bright spot even if there stories could've been better.

Same thing with Daniel Cosgrove as Chris during the final months of ATWT as he brought that Bill Lewis energy to the role.  Made us forget about that sinister Dylan Bruce version of the character.

B&B lost the Spectras in the early to mid 00s after they had been on the show since the late 80s.

And even though Darlene Conley passed away in real life, that didn't necessarily have to mean the end of that entire family. But Conley's real life death had been preceded by years of gradually phasing out her and the cast surrounding her, meaning there was nobody left to carry on the Spectra legacy when the show lost her.

There were several writing choices that led to that point: never giving Macy or CJ children meaning there was no viable third generation (other than possibly Aly who was promptly killed off), never establishing adult CJ as a core character but rather only giving him a few short term storylines and then writing him off the show, killing off Macy (the obvious heir to Sally) twice in a short time, killing off Darla, and having Sally lose Spectra Fashions and end her days as a secretary at Forrester Creations.

Then the show tried to backtrack in 2017 by inventing a whole new set of Spectra characters, but the damage had been done and it never really worked.

Same thing with GL and the Bauers.  Phillip had three kids before Rick had one.  Plus by the mid 2000s Phillip's eldest child was driving story while Rick's eldest child Jude was young and seldom seen.

Also Mike could've remarried and have children off screen conceived in the 80s.  That's if the writers gave a darn, which they didn't.

I would be shocked if Y&R doesn't get a new EP and HW (one can only hope with some minor changes / the Athletic Club is mentioned again / Diane's return / Imani gets some story / among others )

Days needs a new EP more than it needs a  new HW.

Y&R has been a snoozefest since JG took over.  If he wasn't replaced last year I don't see him being dropped anytime soon.  Sony/CBS satisfied with mediocrity as long as the ratings are ahead of the others.

I understand why the sponsors (P&G specifically) thought expanding to an hour was a good idea.  (Cheaper to do a single hour of one program than two unique 30-minute shows.)  But the 90-minute idea -- a lousy one for sure.

In theory 90 minutes could work for a soap but you'd need 90 minutes worth of characters and story and not 60 minutes worth stretched out to 90 minutes.

For instance if you merged y&r with b&b you would just sprinkle in the b&b stuff during the 90 minute run time.
