  1. Brandi Glanville is so annoying with her anti-LVP nonsense. She blames LVP, but not Yolanda who obviously put her up to attacking Joanna Krupa? The Yolanda that no longer associates with Brandi now that they are both off of the show. This is the same Brandi who was on Family Boot Camp where her father accused her of being a prostitute. Just no.

I have never seen the Potomac show but I've kept up with the clips on Bravo. Is this a show to watch from the beginning or just start with this season?

What is Dorinda's problem with Tinsley? She's constantly attacking/criticising her. Is she jealous because of Tinsley's popularity?

  2. Kyle's tweet storm backfired on her. She really lives up to the Vyle Kyle moniker. I thought of what would get me back to watching the show, and I couldn't think of anything if the current cast returns. I can't stand any of them with the possible exception of Denise.

  3. As much as the MJ as prostitute story was ridiculous, I actually enjoyed the story. I just saw Spencer's MJ as another character rather than MJ. I think this period of the show had so much potential, but they never followed through with anything.

  4. RHONY: I didn't watch most of the season, but I see that Bethenny is still unsufferable. As someone who just lost my cat of 14 years, I couldn't get over how she was making jokes and attacking Tinsley. Who does that??? I think the housewives thought Tinsley would be a flash in the pan, and they are angry that she has been successful in getting viewers to like her. She doesn't have to attack other. She doesn't have to start fights with other HW (Dorinda always starts something at the end of the season to be "relevant") and I think they resent her.

RHOBH: First year I didn't watch any of the episodes. I just couldn't stomach it. Who is going after Pandora and their business? So scummy.

  5.  SB always had so many loose ends and they never cared to address them. As fantastic as the show could be, it's maddening how they will drop secondary characters or even contract players. In a way, they would do the telenovela format where a storyline would run for 12 weeks and then it'd just fizzle out (The Laura/Michael/Leo Mitchell stuff some immediately to mind) or they'd get rid of the character (Sandra the psychic). Did they ever tell a long-term storyline that lasted about six month and that didn't fizzle out or become confusing (Channing's murder for ex.)?

    I agree.

Rinna is gonna take that comment and ride it to the end of time though b/c she knows dog-gate no longer holds up.

I don't see anything wrong with it, but wasn't Rinna criticised for the "my gays" stuff? Ugh. I'm so over RHOBH. I can't even bother to watch it.

    I agree.

Rinna is having a meltdown over tonight's episode on Twitter right now. Especially, over the jest that LVP made about Erika. Was it ignorant? Hell yes. Do I think it garners the venom from these folks? Nope.

    What did LVP say?

  8. He would cry into a scarf???? Oh, this I wish I could see.

On another note, I feel like I was a fan of the AW stories that no one else liked. I enjoyed the Cass/Rex (was it Rex? I can't remember the twin's name) and Nicole storyline. I still remember the twin's accomplice being thrown over the balcony and being upset because I liked her. I enjoyed the MAry/Reginald stuff, but I have no recollection of where the storyline went.

For some reason, I'm missing Carmen Duncan a lot. She was always Iris to me, and I'm still outraged she didn't win an Emmy for the chief storyline.

  9. Tomlin's OLTL tenure had its problems, but it was still watchable on the whole. He fostered characters I cared about, and while I never cared for Todd, there were other storylines I could watch. I don't know how he was on other shows, but I think Tomlin could have been excellent if he'd been paired with stronger headwriters. I adored Barbara Garrick as Allison so I would have put up with a lot just to see her, but it goes to show how selective the memory is. I had forgotten about Mitch and Jessica because Allison was my sole focus. I get the beach stuff with Todd was inane (and I always FFed most of Todd's stuff so it didn't matter to me) but what came after was an absolute mess for the most part.

  10. It's depressing but not surprising that the remaining soaps do not have decent gay storylines. I bet if most execs had their way, they wouldn't have to include black or hispanic characters either because so many of these writers and execs are stuck in a fifties' mindset. Are there any Asian characters who have a major role in any of the soaps? I haven't watch a soap in years.

When a gay storyline doesn't work, they always blame it on the "gay" aspect rather than the idiotic writing or timid storytelling. The soaps are so busy catering to the pearl clutchers and the bible belt that they lose everyone else. The Noah/Luke storyline started off fine, but it got so ridiculous and boring that I didn't care by the end.  On soaps, gay men always have to turn to women during an emotional crisis and these gay men always have magical sperm since a baby is always conceived.

  11. Mauceri just goes to show that you can't equate starring in a gay themed film as confirmation that the person will be supportive of the gay audience/gay rights. When these actors find religion, gays and lesbians are always the first group they throw under the bus. They could have made their money from working with gay actors/directors, but they don't care. There was a lot wrong with the gay storyline on OLTL (including the tired and offensive "gay man gets emotional so sleeps with woman" trope) but there were a lot of problems with other storylines. I don't recall Mauceri getting offended by Todd punching Tea for ex.

Roscoe Born left SB in May 1991. Conboy left in June and was replaced by Rauch.

Thanks for the clarification. I remember reading that Born had done a video complaining about the EP (who I thought was Rauch). Does anyone remember this? If I recall, this led to Bizeau's firing because of her involvement with him. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Of course, I could be wrong on the dates myself. I thought that Louise Sorel had issues with just the Dobsons re: the Dash story and that she was out before Rauch came in. I'm not as familiar with the last three or so years of SB as I am of its first five.

I think it was a combination of things including the Dash storyline. Sorel has a really good interview at welovesoaps that goes into this. Interestingly, she never mentions Rauch by name when talking about the producer who produced the show when she left.

John Conboy was EP in the stories you mentioned, I believe. I don't think Paul Rauch came in until late 1991/early 1992.

The internet search says he left in summer 1991 and Rauch replaced him. Don't know how accurate that is. I just remember reading that Born and Rauch had feuded and Sorel was fired because of Rauch. It wouldn't surprise me knowing what I've read about him, but my memory could be faulty. I didn't always care for Conboy's SB, but Rauch ruined SB for me. Pamela Long helped kill it.

Bizeau as Flame was amazing....she had a real "it" factor about her.

She definitely had it, and I wish that behind the scenes turmoil hadn't caused her departure. The Michael/Flame (which used to be on youtube) was so good and the character could have done so much more.

  15. Judi Evans as Nancy would have been an excellent choice. I suppose the show didn't want to pay for two actresses so just shoehorned Evans into the role of Paulina, but her Paulina just never made sense. I always felt that way about Buchanan's Vicky and her disastrous Marley. Vicky lost so much of her spunk and energy and Wheeler wiped Buchanan off the screen when she returned to the show. I'm missing AW a lot today, but I'm not sure why because the show was never stable or consistent starting in 1991. It seemed as if the show was a new one every year. I'd get invested in characters, and a new producer would fire them. I stopped watching consistently when Frankie was killed off. I could put up with the Justine mess, but not killing off Frankie just for effect.

  16. I wonder if Paul Rauch as producer of SB also caused a lot of the problems during the Dobsons' return. He made a point to destroy Augusta's character and fire Louise Sorel (wasn't it because they had had an affair at some point?) and Augusta kept having those flirtations/dream sequences with her sister's rapist. Rauch and Roscoe Born butted heads so Born was gone, and Bizeau soon followed. A real shame as I thought the Flame/Michael pairing was great. Runyeon also disappeared soon after.

    UPI February 1995

Kim Zimmer, one of daytime's most popular stars for her role as the conniving Reva Shayne Lewis on 'Guiding Light,' will return -- briefly -- to the show after an absence of more than four years.  Although no details about her 'comeback' have been revealed, executive producer Jill Farren Phelps did say Reva's 'presence' will finally allow her old flame, Josh Lewis (played by Robert Newman), to make peace with her loss and give him courage to move on with his life.

    https://www.upi.com/Archives/1995/02/07/People/8378792133200/

Zimmer's interview with Nelson Branco TV Guide Canada:

TVG: Well, it felt like forever. Do you think had Jill Farren Phelps welcomed you back sooner that Revas journey would have turned out differently?

KZ: No because some wonderful storytelling happened while I was gone during those five years. I read both sides of the fence, and I know some fans thought Reva dominated far too much story when I was there the first time. When I left, GL became more of an ensemble cast and I think there is some truth to that.

You claimed Zimmer had praised JFP in her memoir. SHE DID NOT. You claimed she said that JFP allowed Reva to age. She NEVER said anything about Phelps in her memoir. I conceded they may have worked together, but I was not sure so I don't know what this news item is meant to prove/disprove. If you're going to quote someone to "disprove" them, quote the entire sentence. You also claimed Zimmer won an Emmy under JFP which she did not. Zimmer won her last emmy under Ellen Wheeler. She won her first three before JFP got there. The only thing I'm interested in is seeing that full interview since the only thing I could find is that excerpt on different sites.

You may be thinking of Jack's doppelganger who slept with Phyllis without her consent.  However, that was before JFP was hired at Y&R and her regime actually dealt with the aftermath of that storyline.  Also, she is a producer and not a writer, Pratt was writing for Y&R at the time.

Kim Zimmer had nothing but praise for JFP and her allowing Reva to age in her memoir.  Zimmer also won an Emmy under JFP.  So, this seems to just be conjecture without any fact.

I'm referring to Avery's story (I did not know it was JEssica Collins's story) which a google search indicates I was right about .

Kim Zimmer NEVER mentions Phelps in her memoirs. I have her book on kindle and I did a search. I'm not even sure Phelps and Zimmer worked together on GL, but if she did, she didn't include the experience in her memoirs. Ellen Wheeler is mentioned and it's not kind.

I don't wish to negate everyone but I also failed to substantiate this argument.

She produced Katherine Chancellor's memorial on Y&R.  She produced Lillian's breast cancer on Guiding Light and was praised by Tina Slone in her memoir.  She saved the jobs of not just Michael Zaslow, but also Jerry Ver Dorn who had heart surgery during a big story on GL.  And she was nominated for 14 Emmys and each year that she was nominated for best show a veteran female from her show was also nominated in an acting category.

You can disagree with me. That's fine. I never mind people disagreeing as long as they are not name calling. I think she was capable of giving actors good material, but I don't think it negates her misogynistic ways or her clear male bias--thing that happened on every show she's been on. Wasn't KC's memorial roundly criticised? I didn't watch YR then so don't know. Wasn't she and her co-ep or co-hw advocating for a false rape claim story that had to be rewritten? There's no denying JFP could create good material, but I think she was ultimately toxic and toxic at every show. I used to give her credit for the Robert/Eden/Cruz storyline until interviews showed it was forced on her so I can't even give her credit for that. I do think she did a very good job at GL until a certain point where she just ruined the show.

re: ATWT I don't want to wade into the Goutman situation because my viewing of ATWT was spotty as best, but how much of the idiocy was his doing and how much of it was the network or P&G? Has anyone ever said? What did Martha Byrne have to say for ex?

JFP had some issues.  The biggest issue with her is that she's overly focused on the men.  The women are expendable if they facilitated a story for the men.  So storylines are built around the men's point of view too often than not, unless there is a strong HW who is female friendly.   However, I'll always give her credit for hiring Michael Zaslow on OLTL after GL fired him.

However, I tend to think a lot of EP's see women as expendable.  Gloria Monty always valued characters (and the actors who played them) like Luke and Robert far more than Laura, Holly, or Anna.   And/or EP's see women as only one of two archetypes.  The angel or the bad girl.  Versus men who could be many shades of gray.  I think that has been an issue across the board with a lot of EP's and writers.

Very true, but I always had the sense that JFP took a weird delight in punishing female characters and the actresses. I still wonder what happened to the lawsuit Kari Wurher filed about being fired because she was pregnant. JFP liked to always pass the buck when it came time to take blame (although she finally grudgingly took the blame for Ellen Parker years later) but when the same thing happens on every show, it's hard not to notice a pattern.

  21. I will never understand Kenyagate. It makes no sense. Nene couldn't even articulate what the problem was and Cynthia's explanation was confusing. She should have let Kandi explain even if "Kandi isn't important." Cynthia should have just said, "IT was my party and I'll invite anyone I want." Nene's nonsense reminded of Eileen Davidson's campaign against LVP in the sixth season. It also made no sense to me that ED was so upset about LVP's comment/question. I always felt Rinna was egging her on off camera (or Erika).

I despise Erika. I know that's a strong word, but I can't stand her. When I watched last season, I FFed her material. I'm sorry, but why should I care about a woman who gloats about work that other people do for her??? Considering what her husband is accused of, it's madness and disgusting how she always gloats about her money. When she was on DWTS, my mother (who's not a housewife viewer) loathed her. She was particularly upset she got paired with Gleb who my mother and I lust after.

Roxanne Gay was on WWHL and it was hilarious. She had to guess Kyle's disguised voice and then said how she feels so much for Lisa Vanderpump. I'm sure Kyle and Teddy were seething.
