1980: The Mike Douglas Show. Linda Gray co-hosts and invites her special guest: Niece Lindsay Wagner.
On 2/26/2021 at 7:15 PM, SFK said:I was two minutes ago years old when I found out they were related.
Lindsay Wagner's mother Marilyn Ball and Linda Gray's ex-husband/childrens' father Ed Thrasher were siblings. Linda and Ed divorced in 1983 and Ed passed away in 2006. Lindsay is first cousin to Linda's children.

The Daytime Emmys celebrated their 25th anniversary on NBC, the same network that broadcasted the first Daytime Emmy Awards. From the way everything was set up, NBC was expecting some big wins. Instead we got an ABC love fest, a streak being over (no, not THAT one), and the biggest upset ever.

Roscoe Born as Alan..wow, a sexy Alan and not a blustering windbag? Wasnt Born too young, and how did RR survive as long as he did, if anything, I prefered Marj's Alex over RR's Alan and THAT is saying a lot!
Roscoe Born was less than a year younger than Ron Raines, so age wouldn't have been an issue. JFP was still EP when Alan was recast so it's surprising she didn't cast one of her friends and instead went for an unknown. Does anyone remember if any big soap names were considered for Alan in 1994?

Cynthia Watros raving about Kim Zimmer. The look on Laura Wright's face.....if looks could kllllllll....lol
18 hours ago, Aback said:As usual, the people I want to listen to are the ones who are more silent (Garrett, Kinkaed, Aleksander and this time... Watros).
It's funny that Zimmer texted Locher for all the previous reunions, but not this time.
So KZ had beef with both CW and LW?

This is shocking. RIP John Callahan.
Three former Santa Barbara actors AFAIK have left us so far in 2020: Marj Dusay, Roscoe Born, John Callahan. Bad news really does come in threes.

The show barely survived 1995 and 1996. It was nearly canceled, supposedly, in early 1995. The ratings rise in late '95 helped buy some time, but the rumors started again by fall '96 when the ratings crashed. If the Bells had wanted to expand B&B to an hour I think GL would have been canceled. It felt like they were thisclose around that time period to the B&B hour. (they were, of course, smart not to do so - I don't think it would be on today if they had)
During 1996 it looked like B&B was preparing for a one hour expansion which would most likely have coincided with their 10th anniversary in March 1997 but for whatever reason that didn't happen. If CBS cancelled GL in the mid 1990s and gave half hour to B&B, what would've happened to the other half hour? Could we have gotten a 3rd Bell show and would the daytime drama block be rearranged.

Why is everyone saying Madonna's health hasn't been too good recently?
23 minutes ago, Faulkner said:There have been rumors similar to those that plagued Prince.
If you asked any music fan in the mid 1980s to mid 1990s which of the big three female pop stars (Madonna, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson) was going to die a shocking drug fueled death before age 50, I bet 99% would have said Madonna. She has outlived Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Prince, George Michael. I really think that the next big music death is going to be her.

Also from March 1995
Wendy Moniz first episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZWIC-UzZTEg
Monti Sharp last episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_7Acub2lDA
Besides the big cast purge and EP/HW changes, 1995 also saw recasts (Rebecca Budig, Russell Curry, Wendy Moniz, Toby Poser, Jennifer Rozell), returns (Lisa Brown, Michael O'Leary, Kim Zimmer), and time slot changes by CBS affiliates in major media markets. I'm amazed GL made it through the rest of the 1990s after all this went down.

25 years ago this month was Melina Kanakaredes' last episode and the start of a huge cast purge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM2muDPjyBA
From what I can recall, there were 10 contract cast members that were gone by the end of 1995: Jean Carol, Barbara Crampton, Hilary Edson, Scott Hoxby, Melina Kanakaredes, Kelly Neal, Rachel Miner, Monti Sharp, Eugene Troobnick, Marcy Walker. Of course the biggest changes that year were the EP change from JFP to Michael Laibson and Megan McTavish becoming the new head writer.

This was probably Jill's last big umbrella storyline as she would be out in less than 6 months.

It's Gordon Thomson's second role on Y&R. He played an attorney in 1997 or 1998 during the Daniel custody battle.
It will be interesting to see if Gordon Thomson's character has any scenes w/ Adam, considering Adam Carrington and Adam Newman are quite similar in character. Also of note is that Bill Bell used the name Adam Alexander (Adam Carrington's middle name was Alexander) for Sally Spectra's first husband/Macy's father on B&B.

Reading about Carmen Duncan's passing has me wondering about Victoria Wyndham. AFAIK Victoria is not on any social media. It's hard to believe that a good number of the actors Victoria played opposite of in major storylines are now gone.

Days has had older actor/teenage actress meeting on the show and getting together in real life before. In the mid-1980s David Wallace and Lisa Trusel met on Days and they were married one week after Lisa turned 18. AFAIK they are still together some 30+ years later.

Is Mary Ellen Stuart retired from acting? I realize that haven't seen her in anything in a long time!
Mary Ellen Stuart competed alongside Bobbie Eakes at Miss America in September 1982. Oddly enough they would both start on CBS Daytime within months of each other.
Here's a video of both of them being announced amongst the top 10 (Bobbie was announced first, Mary Ellen was announced at 1:12).

20 years ago this week (starting at 4:36). Original airdate was Friday October 3, 1997 according to an old online recap site.
This was the scene shown from Cynthia Watros's Emmy reel during the 1998 Daytime Emmy broadcast. I'm thinking the other episode submitted was the witness stand breakdown from June 1997. Watch those two scenes and you'll see why the 1998 Lead Actress race ended up being the biggest upset ever.

@FrenchBug82, @MichaelGL, @robbwolff There were some plot holes in the Annie story but I chalked that up to the various EP/HW changes from 1994-1998.
Going from what was on YT yrs ago
JFP (1994-1995): Annie was introduced as a nurse from Chicago that won a fellowship at Cedars. Annie was shown drinking wine at a restaurant and beer at a pool hall. Annie and Rick's first meeting at Cedars hinted they shared a past in Chicago.
Laibson/McTavish (1995-1996): Annie was shown at an AA meeting where she spoke of being sober for one year. It was revealed that Annie was married to Rick and the marriage ended over her drinking and the involvement with Jake.
Rauch/E&B (1997-1998): Annie was married to Eddie Banks and Annie faked her death to escape drug theft charges.
