  1. I always loved Doug and Leila’s friendship. It was unique, non sexual, and refreshing on soaps. Furthermore, I did enjoy the character even when he was written as a busybody fuddy-duddy.
  2. Y&R very nearly went to air with the title “The Young and Restless Years”. The original Screen Gems contracts have that name for show. Thank goodness someone lobbed off “Years”.
  3. Thanks for all of these LOVING episodes! It was the little soap that could. We have to remember that the show had a different EP and head writer every year it was on the air! How the crew and cast managed to keep things going to this standard is remarkable. My guess would be that LOVING had a budget on the same scale as B&B did during the period, hence the quality. Both were sold overseas and extremely popular in Italy. Fremantle handled the international sales for LOVING (as well as PRICE IS RIGHT) while the Bells had B&B. This is a guess, but knowing they were each owned by their creators, not the network, and rented one studio from the network, they were probably well-funded due to their international sales in addition to their domestic licensing fees (aka budget).
  4. SFT from August 19, 1953
  5. Agreed! And they keep MULTIPLYING!!! I turned off Emmerdale about a year and a half ago because of the Dingles. I recently saw the news today that the actors playing Lisa, Bernice, Meghan, Graham, Robert, and a few more QUIT! I was shocked. What are they doing to Emmerdale?
  6. Here are three images from script #828 of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS written by William J. Bell and Kay Alden. I acquired this script online many years ago and have since sold it. I wanted to share these brief script snippets in case they're of interest to anyone. I can't remember if I scanned the whole script, but I'll take a look this weekend. Enjoy!
  7. These scenes in the Jabot boardroom were epic and on YouTube for years under the title “Does Anyone Have a Spare $75 Million?” How I wish they would resurface. Brad, Jill, Jack, Nikki... Good times and great storytelling.
  8. Iain MacLeod shouldn't be allowed to produce a local panto let alone a top-rated drama. The way he ruined EMMERDALE... I remember EMMERDALE fans warning CORRIE fans that he was a disaster. He's the UK equivalent of Jill Farren Phelps.
  9. I'll have to go to UCLA and see those episodes. They have a few ATWT episodes from 56-59 and they're quite wonderful.
  10. I've been listening to THE ARCHERS on BBC Radio 4 (via TuneIn) and on Apple Podcasts and was surprised there wasn't a thread for it on SON. Is anyone else listening to the world's longest running soap opera?
  11. The descriptions from 1973 are in the Bell archive. I believe they are Bill Bell's synopses of his episodes (or an assistant wrote them from his script). I recall reading the two weeks and remember seeing Jill & Greg mentioned in Episode #2 of Y&R.
  12. There was a real Colonnade Room at Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel, which was closed in 1967 and demolished in 1969. Chicago native Bell probably kept the name alive after frequenting it with Lee. One can only imagine! Here’s an image: https://www.amazon.com/Colonnade-Room-Edgewater-Illinois-Original-Vintage/dp/B01N6791U9
  13. I’m a sucker for a big soap party... Maybe I’ll tune in.
  14. Lachlan’s off the show? I loved the actor, but loathed what they did to the character once he became obsessed with Belle. I suppose it’s safe to look again, but they need to cull the Dingles. Inbreeding should’ve done that by now...
  15. You're right. I remember reading a few years ago that the reason a lot of Americans (like myself) enjoyed EMMERDALE was that it was a different pace, in an idyllic setting where you could breathe and enjoy the story. Now that I know Ian is gone, I'll give the show another chance. It always pains me when I give up a soap I've loved for more than a decade (All My Children, One Life to Live, The Young and the Restless), so I'm willing to see what happens next...for better or worse... Although, I've been loving Hollyoaks for the last six months - hands down.
  16. Thank you for sharing this link. I hadn't realized how much I've missed seeing Susan Lucci on my television screen. Gosh, I miss AMC something bad right now.
  17. And this episode was written by William J. Bell & Kay Alden. Oh, why Kay isn't a consultant on Y&R, I'll never know... Wait, I do know... Never mind. That's what makes the destruction of the show that much more painful. Thanks again for sharing this priceless gem.
  18. WOW!!!! Thank you for sharing this gem!!! I'm still stunned.
  19. Thanks!! Good to know. I’ll dip my toe back in this weekend. He needed to go a year ago.
  20. Is McLeod still listed at the producer? He should’ve been fired a long time ago. I’ll give it another shot once Rebecca is free. Is that story over or close to it?
  21. I stopped watching about a month ago after 11 years. I couldn’t take it anymore and the Lachlan/Rebecca story was a big reason why.
  22. I turned off Emmerdale because Lachlan chained Rebecca to a bed in the woods. Now Milo’s chained up Cindy. What is wrong with these shows??
  23. Great! Thank you!!
  24. Quick question: I’m new to “The Doctors” thanks to RetroTV. I was watching a few episodes from this past week and I won’t have access to my DVR for a few weeks. Does anyone know the original air dates of the episodes that aired yesterday on Retro at 12PM and 12:30PM EST? I’d love to stay current on YouTube. Thanks!
