A Different World was moved to Friday's during its last season, the only season it aired without The Cosby Show. I think the new day and time hurt it more than anything else, plus the show had been decreasing by some time by that point. In its last season, The Cosby Show finished 18th for the season, in that same season, A Different World finished one place higher at 17th place.

That last season just feel alien, the show wasn't the same anymore and it wasn't getting any better. It was time to end it. I never cared for Charmaine and Lance, and I hated the hip-hop opening credits, ugh. It was like Bill started to pay attention to the "haters" who said the show was too "stogy" and "unrealistic" and started to change the tone of the overall show. It's pretty sad when Olivia and Pam were the stars of that last season...

Yes, that last season revolved TOO MUCH around Olivia and Pam, UGH! They weren't even real Huxtables, no one cared. I think Bill picked the right time to end that show.

Had Lisa Bonet not dropped out of this show in the first season, the dynamics would have been so different from season 2 onwards. Dwayne and Whitley probably would have never happened, since Dwayne was chasing after Denise in that first season, and Whitley was only really a second tier supporting player. In fact, I think, Whitley only started out as a recurring character.

I miss the mid to late 80's and early 90's...

Didn't Whoppi also appear on A Different World as a college professor? I think she was in the episode that dealt with AIDS... And yep, Cree sure caved a niche out for herself as a voiceover artist...

I loved the scenes between Freddie and Whitley on Whitley's wedding day. Those two could never be friends, and mainly just tolerated each other, but you could tell deep down there was some mutual respect and understanding there. That scene was so tender, and the way Freddie told Whitley, "You look beautiful, my sister."

I think it was Whitley's exhibit and her idea to celebrate the Mammy aspect.

Did Cree Summer join the show because she was BFF's with Lisa Bonet? I know Bonet was off the show by the time Cree joined, but I wonder if Lisa put in a word for her. I know she annoyed many, but Freddie was my favourite character. I loved how she stayed true to her convictions and never backed down. She was unique and proud of it. Does anyone remember the Mammy episode where Kim was the only one offended because she was teased as a child for looking like a mammy?

As far as I'm concerned, this show should have ended in the 5th season finale, where Dwayne stormed Whitley's wedding and told her he loved her and they unexpectedly ended up marrying. The last season was hard to watch. The characters seemed lost and the main group was being phased out for the new college kids.

I don't think they ever explained Jaleesa's absence in the final season....

Jasmine Guy has aged terribly...

I think Roseanne (who appeared on an episode of A Different World btw) later said that whole last season and the finale was a metaphor for her real life. I can certainly see the parallels too, but it was definitely hard to watch, knowing the format the show used to exist in prior.

It's pretty sad how the top 30 ratings were dominated by sitcoms 20 years ago, yet now, there aren't even many successful traditional situation comedies on television anymore.

I don't know, the ratings decreases weren't that massive between this particular season and the season before it, when The Cosby Show was tied for #1 with Roseanne. However, by next season, both The Cosby Show and A Different World were out of the top 10, though still in the top 20.

People always get that misconception that The Simpsons was challenging The Cosby Show heavily, but The Simpsons only beat the out The Cosby Show once during that season. The Cosby Show still finished in the top 5 that season, The Simpsons wasn't even in the top 30. I think during that season, Cheers was actually the #1 show and sitcom in the ratings... There was a point there, where the Carsey-Werner (Roseanne, The Cosby Show, and A Different World) shows occupied the top 3 positions in the ratings, the first and only time a TV production company has done so, I believe. A Different World was actually rated higher than The Cosby Show, during the 1990-1991 season. The show just fizzled out fast after that, and by its last season, I believe NBC had moved it to Friday nights.

Nitin Ganatra and Nina Wadia were fantastic in Friday's episode. I also like the party they threw, with Bianca, Roxy, and Jane smuggling alcohol in. I couldn't care less about Syed and Christian's "feelings."

Sheree Murphy debuted today, so she was definitely hired at the very end of the Lucy Allan era and Marquess just got stuck with her and Anita...

Zainab was hilarious when she talked about showing off to the world that her son doesn't shoot blanks. I hate Syed and Christian...

It's supposedly a remix album with remixes of her singles plus a few new songs... But yeah, at this point, why? Just focus on putting an album of new material out. She's setting herself up for overexposure, which could backfire on her.

Sounds like he can't wait to get this flash-forward albatross over with, and can't say I blame him...
