EastEnders: Discussion Thread
I don't know, I know many felt that Little Mo as a character was tapped out of story potential by the time she left. Though, I think the way they ruined that relationship was horrible. Little Mo helped Billy see a good side to himself, and he helped her heal after the Trevor fiasco. They were really there for each other in their time of need. I think Lynne probably has more potential as a character than Little Mo, and I actually think she would be a great barmaid for Kat and Alfie at the Vic. I don't even know why Grant returned for that second stint, he was completely useless, and they totally brushed over his relationship with Sharon, in fact, there was barely any substantial interaction there.

I also found this use of Julia's Theme for Grant and Courtney's final scene to be odd for some reason. Like it really shouldn't be used, even if they were leaving. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNH9AH4q6L4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNH9AH4q6L4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNH9AH4q6L4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> On the topic of Grant/Courtney. I never believed killing Tiffany off was any big mistake. I hated the final year of that character where she was using the same "Why doesn't Grant love me?!?!" dialogue over and over again, even though I don't think she really loved him either. The only thing I miss about that character was her friendship with Bianca, who hasn't had a real friend since.

I always kind of hoped that if they were to write Billy out, they'd bring back Little Mo for him and they'd leave together. I still hold that pairing to be Billy's best pairing. Apparently, Derek Martin said that even though he was sad to be axed, he was asked to extend his stay a bit for a story, so I guess Charlie is leaving a bit later than we expected. I think the show will be in transition until the new storylining team is credited, and even that will take a while.

Funny thing is, I don't think Chrissie even came into her own until Berridge was gone, same with Stacey. It was really Hutchinson and Harwood that developed those characters. 2005, when Chrissie dominated, was mostly Harwood. No idea, that's another strange one. I hated Zoe/Anthony. I loved how awful Kat was towards them for most of their time together. There's a nice one from that era when Little Mo was released from prison and all the Slater's (barring Zoe) gathered at the Vic and Julia's Theme kicked in to show how close they were and how they'd get over the rough patch they went though that year.

I hated Martin during that time, and though I don't like Sonia, I never believed that she would want to be with him after he ran Jamie over, whether it was intentional or not. The writing for women during this time added to her warped view of masculinity on the show. I mean Kat being blackmailed into sex with Andy, Little Mo being raped a second time, and Sharon being sucked of all of her personality so she could just become an extension of Dennis and Den? A lot of her choices for women during this era was really ill-advised.

BTW, did you ever see that four-hander from 2003 with Sharon, Mark, Kat, and Alfie? In it, Sharon was talking Mark out of committing suicide after he found out his HIV medication was failing and tried to get him to realize that he had to live his final days out with a zest for life.

I always thought it was incredibly lazy for Louise Berridge to say that Mark had to go because storyline possibilities had run out for him, and then to kill him off when he was gone. I think she had little use for Mark because he wasn't a gangster, thug, or hardman. He was one of the nice guys. I hated what Berridge considered to be good masculinity on the show at this time.

Yes, it was the anniversary episode. Dan got the last laugh at both Steve and Phil in the end, as he was found not guilty after Phil tried to pin his shooting on him, and he left with all that ransom money after he kidnapped that twit Mel. Dan should have probably left after Bianca and Carol were gone.

This seems like a strange time to use Julia's Theme - after Peggy and Frank declare war on Dan. Look at the end credits at the end of the clip, both Matthew Robinson and John Yorke were credited as EP's, I guess it must have been during a transition time. I remember thinking how fluid and easy the transition between producer's was during this time. Apparently, this was also the first use of Julia' Theme in the 21st century. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m5gz0hk4HU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m5gz0hk4HU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m5gz0hk4HU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

If Peter and Whitney start dating, I wonder if they'll address Bianca being Peter's first cousin, since she's technically also a Beale. Even though Whitney isn't technically Bianca's daughter, she sure loves dating Bianca's family...

That was funny. The scene where Pat and Bianca told Carol she could stop Billie's over the top party and she said that it was OK and that he's a "man" now was also foreshadowing, since he dies out of his own choice and stupidity. At least Santer was good for something.

They seem like they can't wait for him to be dead. He was such an afterthought in his return episode, the episode before he dies. I guess Lauren is going to get sh!t on for bringing more booze, which will surely contribute to his death. I don't know if I'd call it a story, it was resolved in today's episode. I guess it was just a way to establish them and get the baby stuff out in the open at the start of their return, instead of prolonging it for months, like usual stories would go, but also setting up Michael and his upcoming story-dictated return. It feels strange that there hasn't been a scene between Ian and Alfie yet, since he's been with everyone since his return and he and Ian were pretty close. I don't know who else Kat would interact with, she doesn't know many of the other characters, but at least seems to be developing a budding friendship with both Bianca and Shirley.

EastEnders always spends the first few weeks focusing in on characters who've only just returned. They aren't on next week though, well, I think Alfie is only in a few brief scenes according to spoilers. They've actually added to a ratings bump for the show too, since they've been getting 9 million in some episodes or close to since they've come back, which is unusual for this time of year. Jase's son, who Billy left to die as a he saw him being attacked. I guess Billy feels guilty. Lauren, Peter, and Lucy are 17. I think Whitney is 18. No idea on how old Billy is supposed to be, he has the brain of a 5 year old though.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode: I'm glad they didn't stretch out Kat potentially leaving with Michael to Spain, and that she stayed and reconciled with Alfie. I don't think I could stand another will they/won't they storyline for the couples on the show. I guess Michael will be back though, since we saw him drive off and we know he can't be staying away for too long. It will be interesting to see Michael explored more in depth once he returns. Kat and Alfie won't be on much, if at all, next week, so they're done with dominating the duff duffs for now. I did enjoy the scenes between Kat and Charlie too. I wonder if that scene where Alfie assembled pictures of the Slater's, Kat with Zoe, and a random Nana Moon pic was for me. Do you find it strange that Kat hasn't mentioned Zoe yet? I would have thought they'd meet up when neither was in Walford over the past 5 years. The Billy storyline is off to a promising start, especially him mentioning Julie in that one scene where the officer comes in to investigate Billy's time at the orphanage. Poor Carol is gonna be crushed like hell next week once that useless son of her dies. Carol can't lie and say that she doesn't favour Billie more than her other children. She's been never treasured or been as blind to the faults of Bianca, Robbie, or even Sonia as she is with Billie. They tried to explain this in today's episode when she gave that speech about making up for her faults as a mother with her other children and sometimes going too far in the process with her protectiveness of Billie. Phil is really reminding me of his early 90's incarnation these days, and he's merely a supporting character right now. I'm sure he'll get more story once Ben returns though.

Jean was hilarious in today's episode with her Sex & The City crap. The scenes with her, Glenda, Carol and Kat in the Bookies were great, and then with her Stacey, and Kat in the Vic storage room. They're really setting up Carol's story well, with her not answering Billie's phone call when she thought she would be spending the afternoon with Lewis. I bet she'll feel guilt for that when Billie . The scene where Zainab got Greg to lift Kim's caravan with Kat still inside was hilarious. I wonder where this thing between Kat and Michael is going, they have an intriguing dynamic, and I'm not even sure if he's really the father of Kat's kid. Poor Carol finding out Lewis was really married though. I wonder if this is it for Lewis, or will he leave his wife for Carol in the end. He did say that he and his wife hadn't had sex in years, so I don't imagine their marriage is a conventional one. The stuff with Billy and Jean was funny too, and poor Jean walking into the Cafe as Billy was talking sh!t about her. That scene where Stacey consoled her at the market was nice. Today's episode has a nice variety of characters and the humour was very well done.

She's a first rate dramatic actress. It's always been her strength. She basically carried the sh!tty storyline of Jack getting shot earlier in the year.

EastEnders: Discussion Thread
Today's episode felt like a filler episode with nothing much happening, and the setting up of different stories for many different characters. They seem to be setting up Carol's story and Billie's Carol was a nasty cow to Whitney though, not that I care, Billie dumped her ass and she wants to help plan a party for him? Alfie's little scam was doing my head in, but Jessie Wallace's reaction faces are great. They seem to be building a nice friendship between Kat and Bianca now too as well. I'm interested in seeing what type of character Michael tuns out to be. I had to laugh though at Dot being included in Alfie's scam story, and Dot's emerging frenemy relationship with Grace. They also appear to be setting up story for Billie Mitchell. That scene with Jean was awkward as hell. Poor Billy has such crap luck though when it comes to jobs. That was a nice conversation between Carol and Bianca in Pat's kitchen. Are we to assume Pat moved back into her house? I also can't imagine her liking to live alongside Carol. Here's a pic from next week of a scene between Carol and Jim: Didn't Carol and Jim have a very bad relationship? I think when Jim first started on the show, Carol hated his guts. What changed? Or is Carol in debt to him for basically raising Sonia for her?
