  1. I love this piece of music GL used in 1993 during the story that dealt with Maureen's death and its aftermath, as I mentioned in the GL tribute thread. I call it "Maureen's theme", it's so tragically beautiful, a bit depressing, but also a bit hopeful.

The beginning starts about 3:26 in and lasts until the end of the clip. It really peaks at about 3:44 in, which is the most noticeable part, I believe.

Bissix: 'Clare returns an unhinged woman'

Bissix: 'Clare returns an unhinged woman'

Hollyoaks actress Gemma Bissix has revealed that her character reappears in an "unhinged" state when she returns to the village next month.

The 25-year-old makes her comeback to the Channel 4 soap as Clare Devine to tie in with the departures of Chris Fountain (Justin Burton) and Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox).

An unstable Clare returns set on exacting revenge

and quickly becomes involved in a blazing fire at The Loft nightclub.

Speaking of her return, she told PA: "It's exciting stuff to come back and play Clare. I don't think I've ever found a character like her - there's no limit as far as she's concerned."

She added: "In these episodes in particular, she's come back slightly unhinged and there isn't much that gets in her way and that's what I think is so exciting."

Bissix returned to filming earlier this month and reappears on screens during the final week of May.

  3. And did he get it? The higher post?

I guess he did, given he's still affiliated with Lime and will be producing the late-night spin-off for them.

It's sad such gifted auteurs have very slight chances of getting a new program on air. And sometimes, even when they do, the shows turn out to be total train wrecks (network interferences and all).

Yeah, it's sad, but the British soap industry especially is all about constant change and new management I guess.

I wonder what happened to Jonathan Harvey's telenovela for talkbackTHAMES and BBC... I bet there is a bible or a pilot written, but nothing came out of it.

Hmm, good question, what did become of it?

  4. But how weird this all feels... He resigns as EP, then after a few months he comes back to head a spin-off or something? And when one says that he has projects "in development", that always spells "nothing will ever come out of it". Sadly.

I believe he resigned to take a higher post at Lime Pictures, the production company that produces Hollyoaks. The late-night spin-off is only like five hour long episodes, so I guess he figured what the hell, it won't hurt him to be in charge of it.

He's a gifted storyteller, and I really wish Lime had asked him create an entirtely new program, but that's not to be I guess.

  5. So, wait: even though he's still credited, it kind of... Sucks?

I wouldn't say it sucks, just some of the polish that was there before is gone. Who knows how much of his stuff was changed or how much he cared by the end anyway.

But I really haven't had time to watch lately, but will soon.

  6. Well, looks like Kirkwood is coming back - to run another edition of the Later spin-off during the fall.

Kirkwood to head up new 'Hollyoaks Later'

    Friday, April 17 2009, 4:25pm EDT

    By Kris Green, Soaps Editor

Hollyoaks production house Lime Pictures have been commissioned to create another late night version of the Channel 4 soap.

The five-parter, which is currently in pre-production, is being headed up by former Hollyoaks producer Bryan Kirkwood and will air across five nights towards the end of September.

Last year's edition of Hollyoaks Later, produced by new Hollyoaks boss Lucy Allan, saw the return of Guy Burnet as Craig Dean to tie in with the shock climax to the Niall Rafferty (Barry Sloane) plot.

  7. Y&RWorldTurner, how's Hollyoaks doing now without Bryan Kirkwood? Is he on Facebook?

I haven't had much time lately to watch, but from what I've seen, you can tell he's gone, but the show isn't quite past the point of recovery yet. I'll tune in more consistently when Clare retunrs.

    I don't know if he's on Facebook.

  8. Good riddance, Russ was always a bore...

    Stuart Manning quits 'Hollyoaks'

    Friday, April 3 2009, 3:50pm EDT

    By Kris Green, Soaps Editor

Hollyoaks actor Stuart Manning has decided to quit the soap after five years, DS can confirm.

The 29-year-old, who has played school teacher Russ Owen since August 2004, will bow out of the Channel 4 teen soap i

n an emotional storyline which sees him attempt to kidnap his baby son Max.

Following Max's mother Tina McQueen's (Leah Hackett) death at the end of last year in the church blast, guardianship was passed to her sister Jacqui (Claire Cooper).

However, Max's biological father Russ finds himself becoming increasingly sidelined in his son's life over the coming weeks and is constantly denied access.

Wanting to play a prominent role in Max's life, Russ is pushed to the edge and resorts to snatching him from Jacqui's care.

Speaking of his decision to leave, Manning said: "I've had a great time at Hollyoaks over the last five years and I've learnt so much. Russ has been a fantastic character and he's had some great storylines which have been great fun to play - but there's also been lots of hard work!"

He added: "I'll obviously be sad to leave as I've worked with some great people but I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into new projects."

Series producer Lucy Allan commented: "Stuart has been a valued member of cast over the last five years. Russ has gone through some pretty rough times and this story sees the straw that breaks the camel's back.

"We feel that this is the just and fitting end to a character that has shown great diversity and been pushed so far. We'd all like to wish Stuart all the best in the future."

Earlier this month, it was announced that Chris Fountain (Justin Burton) and Jamie Lomas (Warren Fox) are to leave the soap in May. Emma Rigby, meanwhile, is also due to leave towards the end of the year.

  9. Looks like Gemma will be returning exactly around the two year anniversary of the "Who Pushed Clare?" mystery.

God, 2007 was such a fantastic year for Hollyoaks. A true golden era. Clare's reign of terror and the John Paul/Craig stuff was the best stuff I watched that year, and I've never gotten over how great it all was.

I can't believe it's almost a year since Max died. I really miss him and OB. They were such a huge part of the show, and obviously Clare's storyline. The only thing that won't be the same this time around is Max and OB's absence when Clare comes back. I wonder if Clare will interact with Tom, I mean, she did try to poison him once.

  10. Gemma Bissix is love!

She's really good at being a bitchy villainess. I simply love the way she recites her dialogue. I can't wait to see her back!

2:27 in to see the whole scene.

My favourite part of the scene starts 3:42 in though.

Clare (to OB): I remember you making threats before, YOU AND THE UGLY SISTER, didn't quite go to plan now, did it!?

OB: I wouldn't go there if I were you.

Clare: Well, that's where your real love for me comes from, isn't it!? I mean, if it wasn't for moi, poor ol' Mel wouldn't have burned in that fire, and you'd still be holding hands at her AA meeting. ::evil laugh:: TRAGIC THAT THE OTHER ONE HAD TO DIE TOO! TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!

OB: You sick bitch! Phone social services!

Clare: You know it never fails to amuse me, your drunkin' mess of a girlfriend told SO MANY LIES, and when she actually told the truth, NO ONE BELIEVED HER. There's a moral in that somewhere, oh yeah, LIAR LIAR THE LUSH IS ON FIRE!. ::evil laugh::

  11. Preview clips for next week.

I love the Tom and Fernando scene 55 seconds in. The exchange between the two of them is hilarious.

  12. ^I'll take that with a grain of salt, News of The World is a trashy tabloid afterall.

But yeah, you can tell Bryan Kirkwood is gone, the show just doesn't have the extra pizzazz that it had for most of Kirkwood's run. I miss him.

Did anyone see this new promo?

  13. I believe Rauch also used Score Productions at GL, I notice when Rauch initially joined GL, a lot of the background music took a sensationalistic Melrose Place-esque tone. Very mid/late 90's, kind of like how the music used on his OLTL was very 80's.

Like the music from 3:00 to 3:27 in this clip:

    " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">

I much prefered the music used during JFP's GL.

  14. I liked this cue they used on GH when Carly found out that Michael "died."

It lasts like the first 2 minutes, there's a brief commercial break 30 seconds or so in, but the cue continues afterwards.

    ">
    " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344">

I also LOVE this cue they recently used for the Robin and Stone flashback.

It starts 4:53 in and continues to the end of the clip.

  15. OLTL"s "music" now is really just loud clanging sound effects- Its not really music. Very horror film-ish.

Yes, OLTL's current background music is some of the most generic crap I've ever heard. A lot of the cues sound the same or use the same instrumentation, I've noticed. I think OLTL has the worst background music currently of the ABC soaps.

You could clearly tell the difference in production and music after Gottlieb left, it just wasn't the same anymore.
