  1. Lauer and his wife allegedly live separate lives; the rumored Natalie Morales affair was a dealbreaker, I guess?
  2. I was not impressed with Guthrie but I can't blame her for being emotional given her position and how quickly it happened - plus she's a lightweight. I do think Norah O'Donnell and Gayle King handled the Charlie Rose shocker with much more strength and conviction. (Kathie Lee chiming in to ramble about how she had equal sympathy for Lauer and the victim was worse, though) I think they have their own attitudes and old boys club to blame. They passed on Farrow's expose on Weinstein, which led to all of this. Someone at NBC must have made the calculus then that it could blow up on them for Lauer, and they walked away. They also sat on Trump's Access Hollywood tape last year. I don't think this has anything to do with ratings - Lauer was in the DNA at NBC. It has to do with this moment which they failed to prepare for.
  3. I believe so. I think it might be him getting the slot. My assumption about these impending stories is that NBC knew and covered it up. The old boys club. I was not aware til this morning of Lauer's rumored affair gone bad with Natalie Morales, which apparently ended her tenure on the show(?).
  4. The Stern show amusingly raises the spectre that with both Lauer and Billy Bush gone NBC might have to draft losers like Carson Daly.
  5. Still waiting for Haberman to comment on Thrush. He's been torched, sure, but the code of silence from NY journalists about the scandal as well as the ex-Gawkerite manchildren who got accused of harassment in the last few months infuriate me.
  6. Oh, the Lauer town hall! God. I shouldn't be this surprised given how smug he was. I thought he was untouchable. Apparently this is NBC trying to get out in front of a major Lauer story breaking - I think in the Times - soon. (Incidentally, I don't think Maggie Haberman has commented on her partner Glenn Thrush yet.) I'm no fan but this is classily done from her:
  7. Also, wow: They're digging deep into the old recurring cast. James Pickens, Jr. is back as Chuck, Dan's poker buddy and husband to Roseanne's friend and co-worker Anne-Marie. I hope she's back too. And Natalie West.
  8. Wow. Great news on both. Found some of this social media stuff in the articles on Galecki - the cast, Whitney Cummings, and some of the kids. In the taping curtain call video Darlene's little boy (next to Lecy), who I think they said is maybe pre-gay or genderfluid, is wearing a skirt. Michael Fishman always seems like such a sweet guy but I'm far from convinced he can still sort of act, which is generally the most he could manage. We'll see!
  9. Angela Lansbury was old when I was 8. I just don't have time for people playing the cancelled game over this ancient woman on Twitter. She's old, she has somewhat antiquated views on sexuality from a very different time, I disagree with her but I'm not going to burn her at the stake. We have bigger fish to fry.
  10. Showtime's official TP account retweets an interesting choice of article (previously posted):
  11. I've always loved Susan Sarandon as an actress and used to really admire her as a person (and her ping pong bar in downtown Manhattan is great). But now I think she's just a delusional baby boomer hippie who's too proud and privileged to allow herself to admit she's wrong. It's sad and infuriating. There was a Santander Bank a few blocks from me in Brooklyn. I always thought it was shady. I don't think I ever even used their ATMs.

  13. However it turns out I'll just be happy to see them all again. At its best it was one of the best sitcoms in TV history. And it is more relevant today, for better and worse. It can't turn out worse than the lottery season. (Thank God that awful vocal theme is gone)

I'd never seen this. Very classy. It astounds me that he seems to have done this off the cuff, and did the whole bit about Susan.
