  1. It was a clever reel. I thought it would be just the scenes with John, but by including that long flashback at the beginning they allowed him to show more range: the anger at Nikki the night before, the cooler passive-aggressive anger in the morning, and then the regret. IMO he may have had an edge from his time on ABC. I think those were Emmy worthy scenes and he's a good actor, but I've been watching some of the older Emmy shows recently and it's amazing how much Y&R got shut out of the acting categories. Although they won an Emmy for Best Show just two years after the debut, they were shut out of the acting categories throughout the 70s and not only did nobody win until 1985 (Beth Maitland's was well deserved, not so convinced about TEB), they proceeded not to win any of other acting awards for the rest of the decade! It's so ridiculous. The Emmys were always an ABC/P&G fest despite Y&R being the #1 soap and having some really excellent actors. Bergman was worthy, but for sure so were Braeden and Lester, not to mention Jerry Douglas in supporting after watching the divorce storyline play out, wow. And Eileen Davidson, Jeanne Cooper... come on. Thank you to those who are posting details about the Luan storyline. I really don't remember much about her other than her red wedding dress. I'll be paying attention to the dialogue thanks to all of your posts. Another thing that was silly about Jack being a Vietnam vet was before Jill gets shot when Jack gets a gun. The bartender from Gina's gives it him after some break-ins (he's living in the room upstairs) and he has no clue how to use it. And after he gets assigned to community service he acts very entitled, doesn't want to take orders or mop the floor. Jack was always a spoiled, arrogant brat. It's not credible to believe he was in the army a decade before. That story was one of Bill Bell's biggest missteps. Regarding yesterday's classic, IMO Bryton was great but VR really stole the show. You really felt how manic Dru was when she came home, how she was ashamed to admit she'd been fired but she couldn't keep it in, and how Devon had a totally different view of her than Carmen did. And having Victoria want her to work at home but HR and Legal saying no - I like that bit of reality. It's a contrast to ridiculous plots like Adam, Kevin, and Phyllis running around indignant about felonies they committed. It felt unfair because as the audience we "know" Drucilla the same way Devon does. From Carmen's point of view though, if someone breaks into your place and destroys your things, you probably are going to press charges and not want to go to work with them. There was no true villain. There are some very short clips here of Dru cutting Carmen's clothes: https://www.youtube.com/user/levypoppins/videos
  2. Better late than never I suppose!
  3. That was adorable. And I couldn't believe they sprang for a school bus and everything. I don't think they've ever done such a big character reveal for a child, but she turned out to be a legendary character.
  4. Wondering if you or anyone else knows... at some point in the 90s ( before the Soap Central recaps start) there are a lot of missing dates for Y&R and B&B recaps, and references are made to a list called "don't blink" (named after those great promos). Does anyone know if it's possible to find those recaps anywhere? It sounds like it was more of an email list (these rec.arts newsgroups apparently are both an email list AND like a message board?), so I don't know if that's possible short of someone having saved all those emails. I don't know if it was ever public, but if it would be a treasure trove. It's so funny reading back on these old updates when someone says they forgot to tape it on the VCR... little did they know almost 30 years later, we would be so disappointed, lol...
  5. I posted the list of 10play episodes here in this thread on June 12 (sorry, can't seem to link my post directly).... IIRC there are 4 Sheila-centric episodes.... the catfight with Lauren and three recent catfights with Quinn. 10play was up to date with the US before the production pause, in fact it might have been a day ahead. They posted 50 episodes online which we have all but 6, but I have no idea what order they are airing them over there, and I don't know if you need an account to watch it online. I noted which episodes I thought were posted and which were not; if anyone wants to go through the list and see what episodes need to be uploaded to the vault I can do that, and hopefully someone can provide the 6 episodes that weren't posted online.
  6. Great episode. Beth was fantastic. At least dopey Cricket provided some comic relief and got sent away before the real emotional scenes. I think they cut some of Gina and Lauren's confrontation maybe? It didn't seem as dramatic as it did in the recaps, and I would have rather seen more of that than the Tim/Amy exposition scenes. Didn't love the Victor/Cora scenes as much as I thought I would, but clearly it meant more in the context of what happened before and after.
  7. It's funny you bring this up because I keep thinking back to when SoapNet did that GH50 marathon with the top 50 episodes of GH. It was really coherent, showed everything that you would expect, and mostly in order. I always wished we could get something like that for Y&R but figured it was impossible, because SoapNet doesn't exist anymore and Sony is stingy with their material. So these classic episodes are kind of a substitute, which is a dream come true in a way, cause we're getting to see a number of episodes that haven't been seen since the original airing. Some are real gems, but overall this doesn't feel like a representation of the best Y&R has ever had to offer. It's just whatever fits into the theme weeks - which is often really great, and sometimes not so much. To be fair to them, they didn't know how long this would last, so they couldn't have come up with a definitive list from the start. Doing it week by week does make sense. I still wish they would just do weeklong or two week long arcs showing all the episodes in order from one storyline. I see no reason they can't do that but I don't expect it to happen now. They also seem to have given up the character weeks so I doubt we'll get Paul, Lauren, Christine, Jill, etc, just more theme weeks. I guess all we can hope is that the theme weeks are good choices and not stuff that's already online. The Emmy week choices are strong. Some themes I'm hoping for are: -Best of the decades: one day of each week devoted to the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and 2010s (better yet would be one week each 70s-00s). -Best location shoots: Victor/Nikki/Paul and Rick Daros in St. Croix, the "Bermuda triangle" with Cassandra/Paul, Mari Jo and Jack in St. Thomas, maybe Paris or New Orleans (not my bag but some of the newer viewers probably would want to see it). -Heroes week: Basically a second shot at Villains week (which was a much better idea on paper than what they actually selected) but showing the outcome of all the plots, so Paul saving Christine from Michael, since we didn't get Michael on Villains week, JT saving Colleen, Paul saving Lauren from being buried alive, etc.
  8. So comparing the spoilers to the recap of 9/19 posted by @janea4old and the summary of 9/20 posted by @YRfan23 pretty much all of the spoilers for the week already happened by 9/21: John Silva warns Jill that John would not allow her to keep working at Jabots once she files for divorce. Mary doesn't like the idea of Paul marrying Christine. Later, he proposes to Christine. Victoria finally understands why Cole is upset with her (assuming this is about the centerfold). This is the only thing that hasn't happened, and it doesn't sound very important (is Marilyn Mari Jo Mason?): Ashley asks for Paul's opinion about Marilyn's signature and the one on the painting she received as a wedding gift.
  9. I just tried and I can't get anything. I can amplify what's there, but then it's just loud static. It didn't record enough of the original audio. I can hear some very faint voices in the background. Maybe someone else will have some luck. 😕
  10. I'm going to play with it in Audacity. I have cleaned up audio before where I was able to get rid of static and increase volume, but this is really bad, I can't really hear anything at all through YouTube. @ChickenNuggetz92 is very good with audio, maybe he has some ideas. Thanks @YRfan23 sound or not, the quality of the video is quite good!
  11. That sounds like a good choice! They probably aren't going to take my idea of doing a July 4th theme week but maybe they will give us a classic July 4th ep on Friday, July 3. Edit: I can't find a full update on the old Google Groups/UseNet forum, just the spoilers for the week of September 19th: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/rec.arts.tv.soaps/F2vhDBraJVg John Silva warns Jill that John would not allow her to keep working at Jabots once she files for divorce. Ashley asks for Paul's opinion about Marilyn's signature and the one on the painting she received as a wedding gift. Mary doesn't like the idea of Paul marrying Christine. Later, he proposes to Christine. Victoria finally understands why Cole is upset with her.
  12. So with the Emmy week coming up I was wondering if anyone had ever tried to put together a list of all the winning Emmy Reels for Y&R. Is there a database with the submissions, other than digging through old soap magazines? This user on YouTube has been posting clips from the winning reels for the actresses, but of course, Y&R clips are not there due to copyright issues. https://www.youtube.com/c/OscartricksTheBook/playlists
  13. Here's the promo... this is epic! Get your tissues ready.
  14. I think that's the episode they're showing on Monday!
  15. Emmy Winners is a great theme. That could've been two weeks - females and males. Edit: Now that I see B&B is using the same theme I guess there was no way it could be stretched lol.
  16. Cassie only appears briefly at the end of one of the episodes. I bet when the press release comes out they're going to say they picked it because of Adam and Victor (boxing glove scene). They play that scene a lot (even used it in one of the "previously on" last year) and they seem to be showing a lot of episodes that they have used clips from before. Regarding Olivia & Malcolm's wedding, I noticed that my TV guide onscreen description said "Victoria causes trouble for Ryan and Nina" so either they cut a Victoria scene, or they meant to say Tricia. I'm sure Sarah Aldrich had more to do than just sit in the back of the church. @janea4old I think that couple in the church were just extras. It was funny seeing the wedding considering how bitchy Olivia has been to Malcolm in all of the recent broadcasts.
  17. I'm thinking it's a theme of parents and children? The 2006 date could be wrong. The day before and after deal with the birth of Fenmore. Otherwise I'm stumped.
  18. She's definitely found by then. That July 17 issue is covering the prior two weeks. Take a look at these videos I uploaded: May 31, 1984 - Nikki tells Victor she's leaving for NY to go shopping. June 1, 1984 - Nikki meets with Cora at her apartment June 4, 1984 - Nikki brings Cora to Genoa City
  19. The French episode guide says 1311 - 5/23/78 2508 - 1/25/83 2631 - 7/15/83
  20. I thought the same, but look again: those files are each about a week's worth of episodes.
  21. I found this old recap from the last week of June 1984 I had saved (I'm sure it was originally posted here but I did not think to save the poster's name, so apologies for not giving credit): Danny eloped with Traci after saving her from an attempted suicide. Victor fumed to learn that Cora is staying with Kay. Cora lied to Victor that she's hanging around to get what money she can from him. Jill fumed that Jack said he might marry her if John throws her over. The Abbotts were floored to hear of Traci's marriage; while Tim is still puzzled that she's avoiding him. Patty waited for Danny, who forgot about their date plans. Dina taunted Lauren about how Paul will feel when he sees the steamy video music tape love scenes between Lauren and Danny. Jack admitted to Dina he had a one-night stand with Jill and that the incident is recorded on film.
  22. Your recap is great. Paley should really just use it on their website. I felt like the transition into the reception with everyone in different dresses was so abrupt that I wondered if they'd cut something or even pasted two episodes together; but reading your summary I see we didn't miss anything major. It looks like they went from on location for the ceremony to the studio for the reception which looks really tacky. It's funny that they cut out the song when Sony had previously chosen to feature it as a clip for its Minisodes. I uploaded it a while ago, and to my surprise, it didn't get blocked,!
  23. Thanks! Can't really figure out what these episodes have in common yet. 2874 is June 27, 1984! This was around the time that Nikki was looking for Victor's mother, but I don't know if there's a recap for that particular day. March 19 1997 is that Victor/Adam boxing glove scene they always show: https://www.soapcentral.com/yr/recaps/1997/970317.php#wed October 16, 2006 features the reliquary/art history storyline, Neil/Dru/Carmen, and the NVP business plot. https://www.soapcentral.com/yr/recaps/2006/061016.php
  24. Thanks!!! I am wondering, do you have the scenes with Ridge breaks down after learning Massimo is his father? Would love to see those again.
  25. Thanks @janea4old I appreciate the corrections. It's interesting to see the notes that he put on there regarding songs needing to be replaced, etc. He wrote tape on the Brooke/Eric and Katie/Bill weddings, but that can't be right for Katie/Bill, and I'm sure everything has been digitized by now.
