  1. I don't care for him either, TBH. It's probably true that you shouldn't learn too much about a public figure's personal life but since then, he's always come off as smarmy and sleezy to me. I read that one of his scheduled guests cancelled because he felt it was a waste of time to debate Yannopoulis and having him on the show was a simple ratings grab. People went in on Trevor Noah for having Lahren on his show. How is this any different?
  2. @Faulkner I did not catch Johnson's match but I heard that he had gotten into some nasty exchanges on social media with the gamblers who were angry with him for losing. I also heard people complaining that they think he lost too much weight? I haven't really watched him in awhile so I'll have to be on the lookout for that. The dust-up between DY and the USTA illustrated some of the things DY went through in American tennis. Most people thought it was just Young but were soon forced to look at his situation differently after they had little to no success for several years and had other 'fallings out' with other American players. I'm convinced that this was one of the reasons why they ended up having to totally revamp their entire system. Is Courier still the U.S. Davis Cup Captain? It will be interesting in DY begins to ascend again in his play and ranking and Courier is forced to seriously consider Young for a main singles spot on the team (even doubles since the Bryan Brothers have essentially retired from Davis Cup these days). Even though Grigor's been playing well lately, Goffin's results do not surprise me since he's been consistently playing well for almost a year now and seems pretty confident these days. Yes, I was glad that Tsonga FINALLY got a win over Cilic. Most of the times I've seen them play, something always went terribly wrong for Tsonga (usually losing a relatively close first set and then a 2nd set collapse), so Tsonga winning that first set was so good for his confidence and fortunately he was mostly able to keep the focus going in that second set. Some promising results on the ATP side yesterday. On the women's side, I didn't even try to follow since I read there were a bunch of rain delays and the schedule was a mess. Funny to get that much rain in the desert of Doha.
  3. Alduy is right about the U.S. needing a better electoral system. Geez, is Marine LePen still trying to pretend that she is estranged from her father in order to make herself more palatable to the French public? I read about Fillon and his wife and that whole possibe violation of nepotism rules thing. His campaign seems to be holding on by a slim thread at the moment. There are a number of newsworthy events that have happened in France lately. There is a big case of police officers sodomizing a young Black man, which has caused rioting in the suburbs and consternation in political/social circles. I don't know what momentum this case has or whether it will have been settled and faded by April but it is something not to ignore in possibily mobilizing certain blocs, especially given how egregious the act was and how flimsy the excuses the police have given. Also, I wonder what voter turnout is like in France? Here, it was pretty piss poor in 2016, as we all know. Also, I don't often hear of voter suppression being an issue the way it has historically been here in the U.S.- the way it continues to be. In any case, France's runoff system, at least seems sensible. Here is an interesting article about how grassroots resistance movements seem to be outpacing long-established traditional ones. 4. Me too. Donald Young had to face Reilly Opelka earlier in the week, so in a way, I think that sort of prepared DY to face Isner, since Opelka is almost 7ft and has a similar game (although slightly better mover) to Isner. DY was prepared for that ball trajectory coming off Isner's serve because he got plenty of practice from the match with Opelka. DY seemed especially determined in that first, then 3rd set. He seemed to have lost a little focus in the 2nd set but doubled down on the intensity in the third. I believe DY got over that barrier with Isner and has chipped away at any intimidation factor Isner once had (at least I hope). He's now developed his own personal blueprint for beating Isner. Someone mentioned that DY looks bigger, like he's built more arm strength- this may have well have made the difference.
  5. I watched the match and am so happy with this result. Donald Young is just about the only Donald I can root for these days. Not only that but he beat a Trumpist, so that's the cherry on top of the sundae.
  6. The media may just fire several more shots back soon.
  7. Well, the Trump administration is already raiding Standing Rock, according to eyewitness reports. And the Trump administration denies the reports about thinking of mobilizing the National Guard raid but does anyone except the fools who voted for this clown believe a word out of his prevaricating mouth??
  8. Startling to think, that at this point in Obama's first term, Congress had passed President Obama's $1 trillion infrastructure bill, expanded children's health insurance, approved the Lily Ledbetter bill which prevented pay discrimination and started the work toward financial regulation, not to mention laying out the building blocks for what would become known as the ACA. G.O.P.’s Grand Visions for Congress Now Look Like a Mirage In comparison, what has Trump done by now, beside try to deregulate everything and put out some failed executive orders?
  9. Just whoa. There's no way I would give my real name or information for this. I don't trust these nuts!
  10. This is the second time in as many days, I heard someone say how stupid they think Trump is and both are from other countries. Other countries really do think he is a big joke, everyone could well be laughing at this fool. Well, maybe except for Italy because...Berlusconi.
  11. I find myself not reading the newspaper as much as I used to because I'm just tired of the man. I didn't see the PC but all I need to do is glance at social media and see some remarks about how he's like the sad sack of a man who can only brag about scoring the game winning touchdown in high school, etc. It's only been a month and so many people of weary of this man!
  12. Oh boy! Anyway you look at it, it's just a shame that this is how government is run now. @JaneAusten I agree with you. All that immigration information has been out there along with the domestic violence issues. The public airing of some of the contents of that 1990 episode, coupled with the fact that the Senate was in the process of acquiring permission to get into those sealed divorce files was what cause Pudzer to back out. As if we aren't forced to deal with enough deplorables today, a blast from the past jumps out of that basket and back into the political headlines. 13. So the FBI is releasing a trove of documents related to Trump's racial discrimination practices in the 70s. Didn't we all read about this during the campaign? Trump's voters didn't care that he is a racist, how does this help now? The only way it helps is, it helps distract the focus away from the building evidence against the Trump administration and it's treasonous activities.
  14. They were going to unseal his divorce documents and he likely wanted to avoid this.
  15. Every hour on the hour, it seems. Exclusive: Puzder’s ex-wife told Oprah he threatened ‘you will pay for this’ " POLITICO obtained the 1990 taped appearance by the Labor nominee's former spouse."
  16. Why is a Russian "spy ship" said to be "loitering" of the Connecticut coast? If memory serves me correctly, Groton (where the ship is said to be loitering) is the town where a naval academy is located. Am I right? Every day, new bizarre events, new chaos.
  17. Sorry I missed this match!
  18. I vaguely remember reading an article where Ted Turner said he had expressed the hope that CNN would end up being run by an independent company, similar to PBS (but presumably with little to no dependence on government funding in contrast). In an Op-ed piece I read sometime last month or so, essentially the same hope was expressed and that CNN might have a chance at restoring the integrity it once had but lost from the public.
  19. Although I do not subscribed to Facebook, I got a chance to read a Dan Rather post that he posted a few hours ago and I would encourage everyone to read it as it discusses more parallels (and some variations) between the Trump and Nixon scandals. A very illuminating post.
  20. Since he has been tone deaf about the whole situation up until this point, I'm going to guess that his hand is being forced.
  21. Russia Deploys Missile, Violating Treaty and Challenging Trump One day North Korea, another day, Russia.
  22. When you think of how many tech companies and science and engineering start-ups have been created by immigrants who finished their studies at American universities, many deciding to stay and start their businesses here in the last 25 years, it's impossible to see how these industries won't be affected. Many university labs and departments have served as de facto pipeline for tech talent (e.g. Stanford, et al). I know that NYC was investing heavily to be an East Coast tech 'hub' building extension campuses for schools like Cornell on Governor's Island. Also the Technion Institute of Israel was also investing building an extension campus in NYC, either in conjunction with Cornell or separately but my guess, is that the plan is to attract students from all over the world, as well as locally. And even though I thought tuition was still too high for me as a matriculating student who was a U.S. citizen, I learned long ago that my friends who were international students paid a far higher tuition bill than I did. Then again this administration is prone to act recklessly before thinking of the consequences.
