I'm sure new stars will emerge, they always do. It's just that Federer, Nadal, the Williams sisters etc have been around so long now that it's become hard to imagine tennis without them.

I get very defensive of Crossroads because the show is mostly remembered for having cheap sets, when they actually took some huge risks (they paralyzed Meg's son and never gave him a miracle recovery; they had minority characters in the mid/late 70s, long before it was common on other soaps).
I wonder if the writers of Emmerdale knew about this, because it's exactly what they did with Chris Tate.
(I realize this quote is ridiculously late, like almost 10 years late, but better late than never.... )

Emmerdale to air special episode for Faith Dingle's cancer story
They're doing a special episode for Faith Dingle's cancer story, but they did practically nothing, zip, zero for Annie Sugden's funeral!

43 years ago today Emmerdale Farm aired its last episode of the 1970s. Due to a strike at ITV the show didn't return until January 1980. Coincidentally it was also the final episode for Katharine Barker, the original Dolly Skilbeck. Oddly enough watching it now it could almost have served as a final episode for the show. It really feels like the end of an era.
