  1. I have always found it interesting that Cathy was supposed to be the modern woman under Agnes but she ended up being a victim in love and near a breakdown multiple times. She seemed well enough for the time Agnes was there but then ended up off the charts.

A little disappointing that they never found their footing with the casting of Cathy. Did anyone ever have any realistic addictions besides Rachel in the mid-90s and Cole in the late 2000s? Would have been nice to see Cathy as maybe a drug counselor.

I would have loved to see Edwina, Cathy and Pat recur as popular talk show or radio hosts over the years popping in and out throughout the Llanview scandals.

All in all I just don't think it is as difficult to honor the past as soaps make it seem when they have the unique history of being on 40 plus years. Not sure why the Cathy talk brought this to mind for me. Lol.

  2. If this has the Hubbard's involved heavily with the Santos and Kane families I am in. Would be interesting to see SMG back as Kendall. I think it is really easy to settle for Erica/Maria/Kendall/Angie/Jesse and their offspring  and I would be happy.

The Jesse/Angie/David triangle made the 2013 show for me.

I wonder if given Kelly and Mark's involvement this will reflect AMC circa  the early to mid 90s mainly?

Lots of details to come and the success of this program could make or break the future.

  3. I deleted the episode from my DVR despite wanting  to see Chloe. First and foremost those Brady/Nicole scenes were awkward AF prior to Chloe arriving. Then the Allie/Tripp/Ava and the way Ava was speaking. I could care less if she is a psycho or not...we should be beyond  this in 2020. Soaps should be forbidden from ever telling rape stories again. If they wanted to go this route they should have gone full on Karen and at least had Allie be right in her suspicions.

Thinking  back to RC's history and then the disaster of Ciara's rape this is simply clueless.

Are you sure that isn't from the first time Carla left town?  I don't know what year it was, but I believe the actress was fired two times.

It was in a Clint and Viki Love Story Edit and definitely from 1985 due to the...grand fashion statements.

I wish I could find more 1980 material for Carla but can only find Carla miserable in marriage to Jack then speaking with Jenny about Jack's death.

Speaking of missed potential-was anyone watching when Herb and Ed's political campaign went south due to Herb's illegal activities? Maybe they could have had Ed's association get him into more trouble? Granted Herb was DA within a few years.

Carla had become an attorney very quickly, and it didn't really make sense. I think they made her a lawyer because they were not interested in writing any personal storylines for her.  So at least she could get some airtime as a lawyer.  Then wasn't she in the middle of a murder trial (or some kind of trial), when she suddenly had to leave town, and another lawyer replaced her?  If I recall correctly, she didn't even have any good-byes with the other characters -- she was just gone.  I thought it was odd they didn't at least wait until the end of the trial.  Am I right about all this?  It's been 35 years. LOL.

There used to be scenes available on YouTube where Carla says goodbye to Ed on a dinner date, saying that she and Sadie were leaving town. They share a run in with Dorian but not sure if she says goodbye to Dorian.

Gabriella, the adoopted Italian daughter of Bo, was the other girl who was living the house where Dan was.

I don't think that Gabrielle and Brad were together.    I only remember her with Asa, Bo, and Rafe.

As far as dropped storylines, I think that there was a lot of storyline for the African American characters.    However, upon the dismissal of Ellen Holly (Carla), Al Freeman, Jr. (Ed), Lillian Hayman (Sadie), Josh Davis (Dr. Josh Hall) and his girlfriend Lisa (who was late on the serial General Hospital),these characters' stories were dropped.   Even Eriq LaSalle was on the show involved with them for a while.

I think that a lot of their storyline (Carla's and Josh's) were tranposed into storyline for Judith Sanders and Jamie Sanders, and possibly for Elizabeth Sanders.

How devastating! I wasn't even alive at the time but have seen as much of the late 80s as possible and enjoy the camp but the biggest issue was the erasing of the diverse landscape and the lack of a family outside of the Buchanans that worked. Jamie and Elizabeth provided a lot of fun but were not worth losing the Halls for.

They lost a lot of potential with not putting Blair Underwood on contract immediately and I thought Lisa was an absolute spitfire. So many possibilities with Bobby/Lisa/Josh lost. And Blair Underwood and Andrea Evans had a lot of chemistry too.

Did anyone feel like losing Brad Vernon and Marco Dane was a loss? They were C characters by the time they left but they seemed to be essential pot stirrers in the late 70s and early 80s who were faded out.

Would anyone consider Delilah watered down by the time she married Rafe? I haven't seen much of her pre-86 but she seemed like she changed a lot.

  7. It is amazing that for the first time ever all scribes had time off to truly hone in what was and was not working and this is the result. I am a bit behind and honestly was okay with the absurdity of the mannequin as it is at least something different but it should have wrapped up by now.

The biggest squander for me is Carter/Zoe/Zende. Very disappointing. Meanwhile Steffy has faced a new love an addiction rock bottom and back  on top already. WTF?

  8. GH was still a shell of its former self in 2010 after killing off all the next generation but I can still remember watching with my aunt and cousin with the morals of the story playing out and Dante was just so exciting to me out to get Sonny. Had they balanced out the cast and played an entirely different beat with Brenda's return I really feel like GH never would have sunk to new lows by early 2012.

RC saved the show with nostalgia but then did more harm than good and now the only enjoyable aspect of the show for me is Laura. Any other potential they squander.

I would have loved to see a present day play on Laura in 2010 and the return of AJ drama played out with Sonny not played as a hero. That would have and should have been years of story with the entire cast.

  9. I was loving the show during the Nick/Gabi/Sonny/Will drama I was disappointed when the Will recast happened (although at this point I would love a recast) and it was as far as I remember the last character driven storyline that got to me. Those scenes of Nick breaking down about his time in prison were phenomenal.

I loved the twist of Kate/Sami/Gabi dumping Will into the river but 2014 and his lame return and death was just so lazy.

Honestly I feel like 2013 outside of Daniel was the last fully entertaining year. After tyat I only enjoyed fall 2015 and then bits and pieces of weeks or months since.

  10. I am technically as far behind as June but caught today's episode out of curiosity. I enjoyed seeing the Belle/Jan drama and weddong surprise but seems a bit rushed. I would have loved seeing the Jan drama milked through 2021.

As usual the budget continues to hurt the show. I wish they could at least film on location at a small chapel for crying out loud.

I am slightly interested seeing Ava and Phillip working together and Tamara at least seems to be having fun. I just have no faith in Ava working out this time.

  11. If anyone wants to go into greater detail on what the next generation could have been, I would love to read. I know we had Lily, Billy, Mac, Nate, Scotty, Colleen, Daniel and then Raul, JT and Brittany added on. Were there any others or missed opportunities?

I know I have said it before but I will never forgive the waste of Ricky Williams and Ana Hamilton. Amazing casting and two of the most stand outs in the past decade. Kyle is soon to be added to that list as I have lost interest in him. I guess the most recent Fen counts too. They had me more interested in the younger characters in 2019 than the vets.

I believe they were well received, I loved AL's Colleen and still hate that they killed her and Brad off. Colleen had so many story possibilites including her getting with Lauren's son Scotty. That would have given Traci and Lauren reasons to still interact whether they were friendly or not concerning their children. If Scotty cheated on Colleen Traci could say well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. What could have been.....

Wow! I never thought of a Colleen and Scotty pairing with the natural Traci and Lauren aftershocks. Ahhh. What could have been. Weren't Colleen and Scotty close in age too? Would have been awesome to see a JT/Colleen/Scotty triangle and a great way to have kept the momentum of the 2000s era teens going considering MAB killed the YOUNG in Young and Restless.

  13. I am catching up on the classic episodes aired this year and currently in 2006. We're JT and AL's Colleen well received? I am liking the vibe between them but I know he is soon with Victoria (I am so not feeling AH) and she gets caught up with Korbel.

I do like JT and Colleen much better than what I saw between he and Brittany and both Macs so seems like wasted potential to me.

Also-does anyone think Brittany could have taken Amber Moore's place in Daniel and Lily's later drama? I love Amber but seeing Brittany I wonder if more could have been done with her.

  14. This is my first time watching new episodes since I can't remember when.

The Amanda/Devon/Elena/Nate quadrangle is the most interesting I have seen in a while. I just really wish they would go back to the Bell days of directing and music. It would add so, so much mood and atmosphere. I hope they have longterm plans for this quad and all involved.

Chelsea, Adam, Nick, Phyllis, Victor. Just blah. Good Lord. Same thing year after year. I can barely understand anything coming out of Victor's mouth. And WTF is Michelle doing in her scenes? I wish they would make Phyllis just a straight sociopath. The new Chance is a no for me. Is he supposed to be country and western?

This is the most refreshing I have seen Lily in years. Glad Cane and twins are out of the picture.

I do like seeing everyone having actual jobs though.

I have probably said this many times before but I have no interest in the Abbotts or Newmans anymore. I really wish they would bring Olivia back and focus the show on the Barber-Winters, give Traci and younger character to mentor and focus on Sharon/Mariah/Faith. I have little attention span for anyone else. I would love to see Nina come back and a recast Chance too.

I was just reading the history of the show around that time and I came across this:

"At Ed's urging, Holly and little Freddie went on a picnic. The outing ended when Freddie's clothes caught fire. Afterward, Leslie insisted that Holly never care for her son again unless Ed was present. Then Mike took Freddie, who was both his nephew and his stepson, on a canoe trip. During the trip, Freddie was washed downstream. The frightened boy was rescued by a mountain man and suffered from a brief bout with amnesia."

Sounds like at least one writer had fantasies of offing the kid. LOL.

OMG this is absurd. Lol. I can't believe P&G approved this to air. Is this in the official history books?

  16. A good example I can think of is Pratt dismantling AMC but whoever came after not giving anything for the sake of keeping people at bay. Pratt had the show one event after another and then after summer 2010 through 2011 I don't think there was anything to offer. It would be nice if someone could shake things up just enough to build momentum and update the soaps but not dismantle the core of them.

  17. Fully caught up and wow I can't wait to see the new episode when it turns up on Hulu.

I am loving the messiness of Lisa/Felix/Martine and am very intrigued by Warren and Felix's past I hope they go deeper into that.

I like what we have seen of Cher but how incredibly random to add an insta child and have her immediately bond with Goldie like she has been there all along. Even random for this fast paced show.

Great work by the actors playing Darren and Nancy during Kyle's funeral and Darren opening up to Mandy.

Loved Goldie's new look! But her and Joel continue to feel like filler and I really like them both. Same with Tom and Yazz.

Still enjoying the show greatly but this is my first time wishing they would trim down the cast despite the great community feeling. I am slightly biased as I mainly enjoy the Deverauxs, Maaliks and McQueens and Nancy's household (can't even remember their last names) but a lot of people have nothing going on for too long.

  18. I just got caught up through June.

Is Misbah gone permanently or just temporarily out?

I was never really into Nancy and Kyle but wow his death hit me. Very well done.

I loathe this entire Jordan character and the drug operation and he is absolutely heartless. I know they always have at least 2-3 of these characters going around at a time but between him hitting up Leela and Peri and the drug operation it's blah.

Can't wait for the Toby/Celeste/Mitchell plot to pick back up.
