Y&R to air classic episodes
Yeah I think that's why I loved the show when certain characters would not even meet or share scenes with others. It sounds like they had no idea what to do with Sharon, so they just married her off, divorced her, mental breakdown. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Spermgate, lol. Hated it. This was all Kay Alden. She threw three great women under the bus to prop Victor. 2000 was also the year Y&R lost a full ratings point and I think it eventually lead to Trent Jones and Jack Smith coming on board. After 2000 Kay never wrote the show alone again. Was it a huge misfire, well compared to others, no, but I will never like it. If we did get reruns of Y&R from the beginning I would definitely call it quits in 1999, when the Abbotts reunited to reclaim Jabot. Also It is unclear how much of the show from 2002 was Kay and what was Jack. So maybe some of the stuff I mentioned above was her as well. Unsure.

I actually feel like Sharon's descent really started when she and Victor kissed back in 02/03 or thereabouts. Was so wrong and uneccessary. This was the same time Paul consensually raped Christine, another horrible story and of course Kay/Jill being mother/daughter. No surprise this all seem to happen once Jack Smith was made co-head writer. Though Kay made a few mistakes I really have issues with too. I stopped watching daily around 2000ish and stopped all together in 2005/06 so never saw MAB, but I remember people online being excited for storylines that were announced, then upset with the way those storylines played out. Pretty much everytime. Y&R is easier for the first 30 years as there was really only Bill Bell and Kay Alden for the most part. Then you have the reigns of people who helped destroy the show, so I definitely was paying attention as Y&R was being ripped apart, even if I wasn't watching the show

Yeah that's a big change to me. The first one intrigues because it contradicts what is happening. The scene plays out like two star crossed lovers, but the haunting music makes you realise something isn't right, and the cue during the kiss, really punctuates that. The second scene makes you think they really are two people who want to be together but can't. The tension is gone.

Thanks for sharing that. Although I saw it when it first aired, my memory was vague. So it was nice to at least hear it again

Yeah you are probably right about that, in the September 87 episode posted Victor did seem like he was going to string it out a bit, haha.

It would be awesome if it is Victor confronting Nikki about her lying.

I think so, though I guess we will have to see how the full week(s) of reruns will do

I'm hoping if these classic episodes get decent ratings, Sony might see the value in getting the back catalogue out there in some way. I'm not going to get my hopes up, but this is a pretty rare opportunity for them to see if there is interest in these older episodes.

They may have been going by contract dates. She is still in the opening credits as late as Mar 1993, she may have been in the opening longer than that, I haven't checked. I think Barbara didn't join Guiding Light until August 1993 or thereabouts. Maybe she was on contract or recurring and just didn't appear past Mar 1992. Whoops just saw you mentioned that

Yeah true. Almost around the time Josh Morrow came on board. This was around the time the Jack Vietnam Vet story was getting under way, which I thought was better suited to John and not Jack, just seemed ridiculous to suggest Jack ever served in Vietnam, his whole character to that point was classic silver spoon. Also the Rick/Blade story which I was not a fan of, even though I liked the actors in the story, Brenda Epperson nailed that whole storyline as Ashley.

Yeah and very rare, don't remember seeing too many photos of Deborah from the first couple of years she was on the show, apart from Soap Digest photos from scenes of the show they would run with the synopsis

Speaking of Terry Lester and Deborah Adair. Here is a rare photo of them and Lilibet Stern during the Jill/Jack/Patty triangle which played out during 1981

I wasn't fond of 1995 - 1997 to be honest. Still better than what came later, and late 97 until Bell's retirement was far better and I really like 98- 99 On another note - I am also confused with the Dru story, I just watched an episode from 1994 or 1995 where Olivia tells another doctor that Dru is suffering from a condition that would make having another baby 100% impossible. Did she get magically cured or something?

As YRFan23 said it started more in summer 1980. Though from reading synopsis, it seems to have been a bit of a non starter. When Brett Halsey was fired in Mar 1981, Jon-Michael Reed suggested it was because he was such a dud in the role and best I can tell the story was given very little airtime until the resolution at the beginning of 1981. After John caught Jill and Jack in bed he left town and the remainder of 1981 was Jill and Jack, then towards the end of the year Jill and Andy. So depending on who is in this episode, we might get Terry Lester, we might actually see Deborah's Jill with Andy as well.

They did live to tape back then. So pretty much taped the show as if it were live, but they could still stop for any big mistakes

Pretty sure Vanessa jumped in November 81. Either way this is exciting. Even with edits, it will be amazing to see This is from the month before, September 1981 Yeah I just looked and pretty sure it is the week of Nov 2 - 6 1981. This is the week prior to Vanessa killing herself

Yeah but this was long before Billy and Victoria were ever together. They were not even in the same stories initially and I am almost sure they never had any scenes together or at least no significant ones. It was Billy and Mac for the most part during David Thom's run on the show.

I have always wondered about that. She states Melody just stopped talking to her one day and then suddenly just started up again like it was nothing, I am certain she also implied it was during the same time Kay and Nikki stopped sharing scenes together during the 80's and I wonder if it had to do with JC's drinking issue. I can imagine MTS having a low tolerance for it, even if Jeanne was functioning and doing no harm to anyone but herself.

It must have happened off screen, though pretty sure Sven was talking about the massage and not the more sexual nature Sven was going for, prior to this she was pretty clear with him that she had no interest in him that way as she and Michael were devloping a romance at that point. He had been trying for a while to get with her, but the only scenes we saw were him giving her a massage. But maybe there was an implication there that something had happened off screen

I think Traci should have been about 20ish by this time. Pretty sure she was already going to University and in 1987 she finished her final year Ashley was torn here and there, especially when Nikki told Ashley about the Wicked Witch Ashley and Victoria asked her not to take her daddy away Faren is Andy's girlfriend and the bald guy is Jazz Jackson. Tyrone's brother who is in the blazer, the other guy is Nathan, better known as Olivia's husband, haha- Y&R: Old Articles
The big issue with having Liz around between 1986 - 1989 is Phillip. That whole storyline couldn't happen, because Phillip would have simply lived with his Grandmother, rendering Kay obsolete in the story. Not bringing her back in 1989 when Phillip died was wrong. Liz could have returned on a recurring basis at that point. I also thought it odd that Liz had to leave town, even though her daughter had almost been murdered. But again the fight for Phillip story was getting started. Also I think Bell wanted to isolate Jill during her divorce, Michael was her only ally, and I think that was on purpose. That's why Liz took off just before John found out about the affair.
