  1. I have it as May 6 as well, the May 5 episode is when Kay has the fantasy of shooting Jill and does her practice shooting on the dummy and Jill is getting some lovin in the office from Michael
  2. I think Feb 14 is Feb 18. There was definitely a pre-emption on Jan 28 due to the Space Shuttle Challenger explosion. All three networks were taping the launch for later broadcast and as a result cut into the daytime tv schedule and pretty much stuck with the story until their nightly news broadcasts. There is a possible one on Jan 31 for the memorial service for the astronauts as well, but while this definitely pre-empted the show on the east coast it may not have on the west coast. However at some point the two caught up. I do have the whole of May 2, 1986 except the first 30 seconds. I will upload it now (Just be aware the first 40 seconds or so are in German) ETA: Sorry I also have May 5, 1986 from GenoaCityGuy so I will do that one too
  3. Yeah I thought the same. Bill Glenn and Richard Dunlop are pretty much the main two from 1973 - 1982. Yes Y&R had some great directors, even through to periods post-Bell when I wasn't as big on the show, it still looked fantastic Thanks for that. Being Australian I actually looked through to see what soaps aired here in the 70's and was surprised so many of them had a run (even a short one) Most interesting was Days and ATWT got a short stint at nighttime as well. Yeah it was interesting so much is made of the exciting new and fresh Y&R with a young and dynamic cast and yet so little can be found of the show or its stars
  4. Haha just glad you got something out of it I actually only meant to jot down that one point about John Considine, but then I couldn't stop myself Also when John Conboy left around Feb 1982, directors Bill Glenn and Dick Dunlop left too. Was really the end of an era. They were replaced by Frank Pacelli / Rudy Vejar and Dennis Steinmetz

"The Young and the Restless'" Star DAVID HASSELHOFF makes his singing debut tonight on the Merv Griffin Show Apr 6, 1977 - Y&R is referred to as "The Hung and the Restless" at a Washington D.C event - not sure who made this joke but I guess by this point the tight pants on the men were being noticed, haha May 25, 1977 - CBS has two serial dramas in development - one from "The Young & The Restless" supplier Bill Bell and the other from EMI Productions, which has never operated in daytime before. Ogiens also anticipated that specials, "not necessarily at the same level as at nighttime," are going to become an important program force Jun 9, 1977 - Y&R star Jaime-Lyn Bauer to wed Dr. Richard Goldstein Jun 17 in Riverside Jun 21, 1977 - Cindy Eilbacher recurring role as Donna Benz on Y&R (is this character name correct??) Scott has been named producer and Nancy Wiard associate producer for CBS-TV's "The Young And The Restless." Scott has served as associate producer of the Columbia Pictures Television series for the past two years. 7. Sep 9, 1975 - Daily Variety reports William Gray Espy set to leave Y&R (pretty sure his last episode is the one with Jennifer Brooks coming out of surgery (I believe Sep 26, 1975) Nov 26, 1975 - Daily Variety reports that David Hasselhoff announced to take over role of Snapper Foster (his first air date has been listed as Dec 8, 1975) Dec 10, 1975 - Daily Variety reports that on Dec 9 John Conboy signs deal with Columbia Pictures Television to establish a company under his own name and develop projects in association with CPT Mar 31, 1976 - Patricia Wenig named Producer of Y&R (I assume this is when Conboy got the Ex Producer title?) Also might be when Ed Scott joined the show???? Just a guess Jun 17, 1976 - Maura Spencer-Reed and Stacy Graham listed as cast on Y&R (no roles mentioned) Oct 19, 1976 - Variety announces Janice Lynde, John McCook, Mary Stuart and Michael Nouri to star in Daytime tv Special Additional note - Mike Hank(s) was listed as Casting director until Aug 1976 - replaced at some point by Trudy So or Sow or Soaa, her last name seems to be constantly mis-spelled.
  8. Also from looking at the Variety Archives John Considine began filming a movie (The Thirsty Dead aka Blood Hunt aka The Blood Cult of Shangri-La) in the Phillipines starting Feb 26, 1974. Sounds like he wasn't on Y&R much past that Jan 28, 1974 episode. Some dates I found from Variety Archives Feb 27, 1973 - Daily Variety reports Patricia Wenig hired as Associate Producer Mar 8, 1973 - Daily Variety reports Robert Colbert, William Gray Espy and Mary Grover added to Y&R cast Mar 20, 1973 - Bill Glenn and Herbert Kenwith set as rotating directors for Y&R Apr 20, 1973 - Robert Clarke joins Y&R in continuing role (Bruce Henderson) Sep 14, 1973 - Daily Variety reports Richard Dunlop has been added as a rotating director for Y&R Dec 11, 1973 - Daily Variety reports Jaime-Lyn Bauer has been added to the cast which lines up with her character returning in time for Christmas Jun 7, 1974 - Karl Bruck joins Y&R in a recurring role (As Maestro Fautsch) Pretty sure Maestro was introduced in 1973, maybe someone else played him? Nov 18, 1974 - William Glenn, Richard Dunlop and Jim Drake listed as Directors for Y&R (Jim Drake seems to have been dropped by Dec 74) There are also a couple mentions in the archives I might retrieve about the WGA being upset about scab writers being used on Days and Y&R during the 1973 writers strike and a possible lawsuit
  9. Here is a bit of a run down of Nikki from Oct 1978, mentions Scott
  10. I believe Brock, Snapper and Casey were determined to help Nikki pull her life together and she dated some really upstanding guy, but he may have been a bit old fashioned for the times, I think Snapper introduced them. He was played by Jack Stauffer. Maybe he was on staff at the hospital with Snapper and Casey. I didn't think they dated for very long, but I have only read synopsis so not sure. He came on in summer 1978 I think. Pretty sure it didn't last that long. I am almost certain Nikki and Greg were beginning to date when Nick Reed turned up in 1979.
  11. That was the other thing I was thinking. Maybe her first appearance in Nov was so brief that it seemed almost like a day player role to the soap press. I tried finding any info on John Considine's time on the show, as apparently Jeanne said he was there before her (maybe he is seen with Liz at the Chancellor factory) but I could find nothing at this point. Jeanne was well known in the 1950's and I think early 60's in terms of television. Not sure what her profile was like by 1973. So no idea if the general press would bother to announce her arrival. I have some 1973/74 daytime tv issues coming so I will see if there is anything in those as well
  12. This is the only mention of Jeanne Cooper joining Y&R that I could find. This comes from the Feb 21, 1974 issue of Daily Variety. This seems to add to the idea that her start date was Jan 28, 1974. I am still not willing to say 100% confirmation, but the evidence is mounting, haha ETA: I am thrown off by Jeanne stating in 1976 that she joined the show 6 1/2 months after it debuted. But what if that is when she signed her contract. It doesn't mean that is when she started taping. Bell/Conboy could have made sure they had her on board several months prior to her first tape date. It is the only way to explain the discrepency
  13. There is only one place I found Sean Garrison credited as John Abbott, but it was in relation to a request for a cast list in a newspaper tv column and it was from January 1981, when Brett Halsey was very much in the role. The columnist also spelt names wrong and listed Tammy Taylor as Patty, though Lilibet was in the role at that point. The Brett Halsey/Sean Garrison casting along with Jeanne Cooper's start date is going to haunt me for some time I think, haha. CBS/Sony need to get these episodes onlin to ease my mind.
  14. I know this has been buried, but I find this very interesting and odd Rose and Vince turn up (again) in October 1979 and this is Nikki's entire story until May 1980. Then the cult story kicks off in Jun 80 for the summer. No one knew the trouble Nikki had gotten into until that summer when Greg was being stalked by an assasain who shot Liz which happened in July, around the time Deb Adair took over as Jill. At this point Jill was at Jabot, Jack had just turned up and the triangle with John was haphazzardly bumbling along. ETA: Greg found out in May which pushed Nikki towards the cult, but no one else knew until July. Casey had her hands full with Lucas and Jonas, as Leslie had just returned to GC an amnesiac and Jaime Lyn was on her way out on maternity leave. Maybe Joseph Thomas and that story was an idea that Bell or someone mentioned at some point and some fan or soap journalist picked up on it as real. Based on the above I can't imagine it fitting in anywhere on the show. Though Bell was throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the audience around that time.
  15. That is why I accepted Nov 1973, six months would mean late Sep or early Oct 1973, they taped a week ahead, but due to the 3 weeks of Watergate pre-emptions, that would place her first airdate around early November. Maybe they still were ahead production wise for the Christmas/New Year break as well? Oh well, I guess until we see the episodes or get contract or script info it will be a mystery I think Jeanne has always stated 6 1/2 months after the premiere, but I have never seen a first airdate. I guess the Jan 28 date could have just been a big coincidence or a mistake. Maybe she only appeared once in Nov 73 and not again until Jan 28 1974 and everyone in 2004 believed this was her first airdate or something. Or maybe she really was on vacation in November and the Jan 28 date was used as it was her second episode. I would think Jeanne or the papers would have mentioned this. As far as I know, Jeanne is the only one to have an anniversary celebrated without absolute confirmation of her first airdate. It is really frustrating
  16. The only reason I find this date Jan 28 odd, is because that is the alleged date of the 1974 episode we have with Kay appearing at Hazel's beauty parlour. Coincidence? I guess maybe, but it is a big one. Though where did you get the November 1973 date from? I had it too, but I have no idea where I got it from. There has never been a single legit source citing that month and year
  17. So a little confused, I found all these articles from Jan/Feb 2004 all marking Jeanne Cooper's 30th Anniversary. One of them lists it as Jan 28 and the Getty Image of Jeanne with Quinn and Joe LaDue celebrating her 30th Anniversary is dated Jan 28, 2004. Is it possible the Nov 73 date was wrong all this time. Maybe Jeanne started taping in November 1973, and the delays from the Watergate hearings and the Christmas/New Year break delayed her debut? So below is a picture form the party dated Jan 28, 2004 and an article from January 2004 which states her anniversary is Jan 28
  18. Wasn't May 1985 the Moldavian Massacre on Dynasty? Blade had no chance. Dynasty was at the height of its popularity (in fact this season finale cliffhanger was its apex) Yeah CBS was either over confident or just wanted the project to die, so there would be no talk of a series. I get the feeling it was the latter. If CBS had wanted to give the show a chance, they would have tried harder I think.
  19. For good measure here is an article about Blade in Hong Kong. The tv movie was shot in late January 1985, but Lester was apparently not absent from Y&R during this time. Also included is a couple other items of news the first article is from Dec 29, 1984 and the second from May 15, 1985 For the record Lester left Y&R around late June/early July 1985 and returned Aug 1985 (Jack was back around the first week of Sep) So he wasn't gone long. ETA: Jack takes off week of Jul 1 - 5, 1985 and returns week of Sep 9 - 13, 1985. So yeah he was gone for a much shorter time than I had thought. I was undr the impression he left for six months to do Blade in Hong Kong.
  20. This is all I could find. Terry was out during the spring of 1987 to do Hollow Point, a tv movie. Filming started in Feb 87 and most likely ended around April Terry is on Y&R all of 1986 as far as I could tell. I know he is in all the 1986 German eps and he is there for the conclusion of Who Shot Jill in Sep 86 as well. So I am pretty sure his absence was only Feb - roughly April 87 Neil died in fall 87. Never knew of the Diane Jenkins story. She returned in summer 86 and left pretty quickly once Andy made it clear his heart was with Faren. Dina just vanished around the time Jill was shot, same with Lindsey. Molly I think did have a happy ending, Nina took off and returned a few months later. Marc??? was he back in 86, I thought he returned in 87.
  21. I think it was a mix. There seems to be cast members who are still friendly or have defended Brenda and others who loathe her. Ed has always seemed a little bit dodgy to me for some reason. If you have encountered Brenda online at all, she can be really nice one minute and then turn on you out of nowhere, not mean, just suddenly unreasonable. My belief is that Brenda has always had emotional issues, but mostly kept them in check. I think Ed Scott probably very gladly and knowingly pushed her over the edge. I do feel Brenda does have mental health issues that no one around has ever taken seriously. A few cast members have been asked about her and simply won't say anything, and I wonder if that's why. As I said there is a kernal of truth to Brenda's stories. Also If you watch Sep 1986 - Jun 1987 it is a mixed bag. Some episodes it is like 1984 Brenda, a little camp but mostly subtle and present, then other episodes she is like a parody of a soap actor, literally she would be right at home in the movie Soapdish.
  22. Not sure it was cue cards, as she never looked off in the same place. Sometimes she would just look at a wall, or up and off. Not in the direction of the cue cards, and she would change where she looked based on where she was standing. I don't doubt Brenda had health issues and was possibly railroaded by producers behind the scenes - Brenda embelishes and twists things, but I notice there was always a kernal of truth there as well. I would not have put it past Ed Scott to gaslight Brenda (who knows though) ETA: I realised what it does, when Brenda uses it in the wrong moments, it sucks the energy out of the scene because it makes every other actor seem like they are talking to a wall. Also not saying she did it all the time either or that it was always the wrong choice, but when she used it incorrectly it really is frustrating and ruins things
  23. I had a feeling that was what the deal was with Eileen. I think you are right, if Brenda didn't step up, Eileen would have just ripped her apart and made her look ridiculous. Agreed again about her looking away. I remember a scene with Traci/Beth where she did it and it worked, and yes Nina too. You are right when she started doing it with almost everyone, it was just awful. It made it seem more like Brenda (not Jill) didn't want to be there and it made Jill look like she was having some sort of nuerological issue
  24. Agreed. Yeah she lost any subtlety and depth at a certain point, the more power Bill Bell gave Jill, the more absurd Brenda became BUT - It also depended which actor she is in a scene with. For some reason when she is with Eileen she is almost always good. Not sure why. I can rarely find a scene between those two that is awful. Brenda always seemed to try harder with her. With others, by 1987, she would barely make eye contact with them. I hated that thing she did near the end where she would just look off camera while her scene partner was talking
