Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
February 25, 1979 "Ryan's Hope" has finally found a replacement for Ilene Kristen in the coveted role of spoiled sex goddess Delia Ryan. After months of auditioning talent around the country and an open call in the trade papers, Randall Edwards, debuts as Delia next week. Randall is a California actress with credits in theater, movies, nighttime TV, and bit roles on "The Young and the Restless" and "General Hospital." She's a singer and dancer with a degree from the California Institute of Arts. She plays the flute,is a pool hustler, and blackjack whiz, and is a swift manueverer in the martial arts. The producers report that they're ecstatic with Randall. "She truly is the embodiment of Delia,” they claim. March 1979 "Ryan's Hope" producers were so pleased with the work of Randall Edwards, the newest Delia, they decided to reshoot two programs taped with Robyn Milan playing Delia.

When he was interviewed, during the 2000's, for a segment on Tichina Arnold (Zena), for an evening entertainment program, he sounded like he had expected to move beyond soap operas after Ryan's Hope ended (he said he had many offers during the run of the show for other acting jobs - only once the show ended, so did the other job offers.)

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
Ilene Kristen (Delia #1) & Nana Tucker/Nana Visitor (Nancy) Tune in Tomorrow – Jon Michael Reed February 20, 1982 When the character of lady mechanic Georgina Whitman surfaced on “One Life To Live'” three months ago, she was intended to be an “interim buffer” to re-introduce the character of Tony Lord. Now, the shows writers have extended the character to be more active. But the actress originally hired to play Georgina has been dropped. Actress Ilene Kristen was the original Delia on “Ryan's Hope.” Her return to the soap world signaled a willingness to combine soap acting's financial security with her outside interest. Unfortunately. Kristen gained a noticeable amount of pounds to her girth between soaps stints. A “OLTL” source claims that Kristen was cautioned to lose the flab or risk her job. Last week, “OLTL" announced that Nana Tucker will take over the role of Georgina, Interestingly, Tucker's also a “RH” alumna. She played Jewish girl, Nancy Feldman, who had an ill-fated romance with Catholic Pat Ryan. Tucker later portrayed Darcy Collins on “The Doctors.” Kristen, meanwhile, is rumored to be negotiating with “RH” to resume her role of Delia. The current Delia, Randall Edwards, is, according to another source, tired of the part and not afraid to let her displeasure show. Edwards garnered an Emmy nomination last year and was a delightful Delia. Kristen’s return, should it occur, would, however, be a reminder, and perhaps an inspiration, of the exemplary show “Ryan's Hope” was before it digressed to bloated tales of gangland wars and Egyptian mummy curses. “RH” has hired Patrick Jame Clarke for the returning role of Pat Ryan.

Ryan's Hope Discussion Thread
In Michael Corbett's (Michael Pavel) April 1983 SOD interview --he was asked about his departure from Ryan's Hope --he gave a much different version of his leaving than he did in 2007 (on the SN forum from his webmaster). Maybe in 1983 he was trying to be nice -- or maybe trying to not burn any bridges. What Michael said in 2007 I thought you all might find it interesting to know how the end came about for Michael Pavel. I personally didn't know that they were going to kill off the character. Kelli Maroney (Kim) and I had just finished a big publicity tour with Luke and Laura from General Hospital. We got back to town on a Sunday and that Monday I was called into the office by the executive producer at the time Ellen Barrett. She never seemed to like me or the character of Michael Pavel very much. She told me to come in sit down. She said "I have some news for you." "Michael Pavel is going to die." "You're kidding," I said. "No I'm not" and in Devil Wears Prada finesse she tossed out a parting "That's all." Within 6 or 7 shows, I was taking bullet shots from Kim and her mother Rae.

DHK left Ryan's Hope for the NBC TV series Chicago Story - H&M premiered two years later (1983) That 1981 Frank outdoor scene always made me think of Andrew Robinson's Frank going out for a walk ...and then he starts running through the street at night after Jill told him Seneca was the father of her baby with "lies...Lies...Lies" goes through his head....until he finally collapses on the steps of St. Patrick's...
