  1. Randall Edwards used an internalized approach to her scenes. The Crystal Palace was her favorite storyline. She thought Roger and Delia were perfect for each other. She saw the Prince Albert script and said OK and just went with it and was disappointed Delia's past lives story didn't happen. She had fun dancing with Michael Corbett. She spoke very highly of Roscoe Born---amazing, intelligent, kind, passionate. She left to do other things. The press said the show offered her a lot to stay but Randall didn't recall them offering her a lot of of money. As for her brief time as a temporary Annie on As the World Turns --- she didn't think she could playing a straight up leading lady-type for any long period of time after playing a character like Delia. Michael Corbett and the killing of Michael Pavel---Michael's recount of being told by Ellen Barrett and having her sound more sympathetic and him appreciative of the heads up is a different version than he had on his website (is it still on his website?) back 15 years ago or so were he compared it to a "Devil Wears Prada" type conversation where Ellen was short and curt with him. In the book, he said he knew a few weeks a head of time (which I think was what he said in a 1983 SOD interview) and online he said he only knew 6 or 7 days before getting shot. The press liked Maureen Garrett and her character of Elizabeth Jane Ryan but the viewers didn't. Roscoe Born said a lot of the core cast didn't like Maureen and Will Patton, either --- he called them outsiders. He added the other cast members seemed to not like most new actors brought in to the show. Ilene Kristen was crazy about Will Patton, though. Before Roscoe Born had started, Paul Mayer told him, that when his contract comes up for renewal, don't re-sign. Paul daughter thought her father saw some star power in Roscoe and that was why Paul gave that guidance. When Marg Helgenberger started, Roscoe gave her the same advice. Early on, Roscoe and many others saw a bright career for Marg away from the show. Some say Marg was quirky like Sarah ---some say she wasn't--- but all agreed Marg had that something special. The cast and crew loved Marg--- she was magic --- and even more so with Roscoe. Someone likened Max and Siobhan to Aristotle Onassis and Jackie Kennedy type relationship. Some liked the story and some didn't.
  2. Michael Levin said Yasmine was very sweet and pretty. She was also described as amazing and a joy. Ash Adams adored her. On the pairing of Ryan and Rick with Ryan and Yasmine being so young --- here were some of the comments from writers ,directors, and other in production were It was creepy Yasmine did wonderfully being her first job---Grant did not make the paring work Grant gave Yasmine a little more gravitas The pairing never worked Grant was also a bit of a problem on the set
  3. No, she wasn't. Grant Show was not part of this either. It would have been great to hear from both of them
  4. I hope DeliaIrisFan is still around and pops back in soon. There is also Sean's Ryan's Hope site. https://www.geocities.ws/ryanshope75/
  5. Randall was a great. Randall and Ann Gillespie became close friends.
  6. I forgot to add that Kirstie Alley had auditioned for the role of Siobhan #2. Roscoe Born noted that she was taller than he was and if she got the job they wouldn't have hired him.
  7. There is a lot of Ilene WAS/IS Delia comments by many people in the book. To her credit, I have yet to read anything about Randall Edwards letting that get to her. On the show, Randall kept to herself. Both Randall and Roscoe Born were glad they didn't pair up Delia and Joe romantically. The audience and Helen Gallagher did not like Maeve's dance contest storyline. There was some writer that wanted Seneca to come out as a homosexual. Michael Levin wanted a romantic relationship for Jack and Siobhan. Claire and Paul decided against it. Sarah Felder---There weren't really any new details about her firing or Richard Muenz. Many liked her. Ilene said Sarah didn't understand authority and didn't understand that she was not a writer of the series. Sarah could be very brusque (Ilene's word) with people and very angry. The show had wanted Ann Gillespie to dye her hair brown to be closer to Sarah's hair color. They put a rinse instead that would eventually wash out. Later on, and just like with Sarah Felder, the show told Ann they were cutting her hair. Once again similar to Sarah Felder, Ann had a temper and threw fits. Ann admits she was not the most mature person at that point in her career or as a human. Ann blew up on the set one time at director Lela Swift--- and also criticized the script --- two days later she was fired. Ann wasn't happy on the show and now says she wishes she had handled things better back then. Roscoe liked working with Ann. Rose Alaio loved her. Louise Shaffer knew she was out when they hired Gloria DeHaven. She said the show didn't need two over-the-hill divas.
  8. In yesterday's Locher Room interview, author Tom Lisante mentioned Ryan's Bar Online and it's webmaster ---our own DeliaIrisFan! aka ItsnotDeliasfault on the SoapNet forum.
  9. I purchased mine from Amazon
  10. The book has so much more for me to look at but a couple things, to start, after skimming through it last night--- Daniel Hugh-Kelly only has two paragraphs where he speaks for himself but others do talk about him. There is still the incorrect story that he left to do Hardcastle & McCormick ---which didn't begin until 2 years after he left. Helen Gallagher --DHK is her favorite Frank. In her2009 blog talk radio interview she had said Geoff Pierson was her favorite. Geoff Pierson said Frank was written in shades of gray. Although it was a bit bizarre, Charlotte Greer was his favorite storyline. Frank and Jill's wedding must have been a disappointment to the fans. Geoff (and other cast members) didn't know, and still doesn't know, why he was suddenly replaced. What was more puzzling was that he had just recently signed a new 2 year contract extension. A number of them didn't seem to care for John Sanderford that much---thought he was too much of a Hollywood actor. John Blazo --- He said his take on the character worked better opposite Karen Morris and Tom McGreevy than in the Jewish/Catholic story with Nana Tucker. He had gone to Claire Labine's home and had dinner a couple times and Claire helped him find a house to buy. He was fired and still doesn't know why. A number of actors say they don't know why they were let go There was not any new info on Robyn Millan and Nancy Barrett's short time on the show. I wish the book had an index!
  11. I thought there were some real and touching moments with the story but felt the Delia, Albert, and the tower --- and Delia being dropped from the tower ---felt more like make-believe. As far as Delia faking blindness --- it stared out a case of hysterical blindness. Once she regained her sight, she pretended to still be blind because she knew the moment people found out she could see, Roger was going to tell Pat the truth about the timing of the real miscarriage and Pat would leave her. Ilene also said she and Sarah shared a dressing room, so they probably had more contact that way than on camera. I was surprised that the issues with Sarah started that early on in her run.
  12. YouTube has nearly all the 1975-1981 episodes that Soapnet aired. It is pretty well covered by TheSquirrlleyGirl, 28fairplay, and shessosweet88. https://www.youtube.com/@TheSquirrellyGirl/videos 28fairplay picks up with #600 28fairplay - YouTube shessosweet88 has from the 1270's to 1687 (the last one SN aired) https://www.youtube.com/@shessosweet88/videos
  13. I had this on in the background while I was doing other things this morning--- so a few things ---and they will probably be more detailed in the book. Ilene was wonderful. Great that host Michael Fairman was a fan. Author Tom Lisante intrigued to hear about Geoff Pierson's(Frank #4) firing in book. Also, Ron Hale's 1984? almost-storyline in the book. The Dirty Harry reason for the firing of Andrew Robinson (Frank $2)---he really wanted to win that Emmy after he was let go. Ann Gillespie (Siobhan #2) had problems with producer Ellen Barrett, too. We had heard Sarah Felder (Siobhan #1) was "difficult" but it was interesting that Ilene described her as unhinged and had to talk her down at times. We knew about Michael Levin's (Jack) temper. I didn't realize this early change in Pat from ladies' man to good guy was because of the decision to have Frank live and Frank was to be seen as the womanizer. During Malcolm Groome's (Pat #1)2008? blog talk radio interview, he also noted the change in Pat to a nice guy and said they made Pat more like Malcolm. Although, early Pat was not some great seducer of women ---more of a fun, immature, wandering fellow with playing dart with girls, and dancing, and flirting as he walked around Neurology chewing gum. (There was that terrible conversation where Pat told Bucky to ply Faith liquor to loosen her up.} Here Malcolm originally tested for Bucky and then Pat really did become Bucky. Someone told me those blog talk radio interviews aren't working. Too bad --- they were great. Did anyone save them? Ilene thought Patrick James Clarke (Pat #4)was the only good Pat recast. I haven't really seen a lot of his work on the show I'll have to go back and listen again. I heard Tom, the author, say they should have made Bob gay ---but I missed what led up to that comment in the conversation.
  14. From JASON47's ratings 8/25/86 -8/29/86 rating - 3 _________________________________________________ 9/1/86-9/5/86 Ilene Kristen (Delia) returned on September 5 rating -2.6 _________________________________________________ 9/8/86 -9/12/86 Ilene's first full week back rating -2.9
  15. Ilene Kristen (Delia) made her second return to Ryan's Hope on September 5th Thank you, JASON47!
  16. Thank you! I'm glad to see these very small snippets of 1982 and have only heard about Kim's interest in Pat.
  17. Thanks to JASON47! for the ratings at the beginning of the 1981 writer strike June 1- 5 1981 7.3 #5 Roger told Seneca of Kim and Michael’s affair. Rae confronted Kim and Michael. Michael confessed to Kim that Rae was his other paramour. Joe ordered Sal, his messenger, to keep Michael quiet. Kim fired a shot at Michael while Sal lurked outside. Seneca and Jack rushed to the scene. June 8- 12 1981 7.0 #6 Kim shot Michael before he was finished off by an unseen party. Rae confessed to the murder to protect Kim. Sal swore to Joe that he didn’t terminate Michael. Seneca gave Kim the heave-ho. Siobhan and Joe battled over her friendship with Jack. Siobhan was green at seeing Delia and Joe discoing. Wes courted Delia. Matt and Rose warned Jack against investigating his setup. Faith renewed ties with Maeve and Johnny. June 15- 19 1981 7.0 #5 Rae admitted to Roger that Kim shot Michael, but swore Roger to secrecy. Rae was charged with first degree murder. Frank and Jill suspected Rae was covering up for Kim, who is staying with Maeve and Johnny. Joe was relieved when Sal’s alibi checked out. Joe bristled at Siobhan’s impassioned defense of Jack to the police. Jack told Siobhan to stay out of his investigation of Michael’s misdeeds. June 22- 26 1981 7.8 #4 Joe ordered Sal to locate Amelia, Rose’s missing daughter, in a campaign to hurt Jack. Kim fell and hit her head during a brouhaha with Seneca. Frank and Jill grew closer. Bob chastised Faith for playing flirtatious games with men. Dee disliked Cynthia Ramsey, Joe’s buxom bartender, who mixed well with Roger. Siobhan contemplated starting a career. Added June 29 - July 3 1981 7.8 #4 July 6 - July 10 7.7 #4 July 13 - July 1 7 1981 7.4 #5 July 20 - July 24, 1981 7.6 #5
  18. I agree. He's just repeating what has been said about RH over the years. Can't say if it's Michael, but there is a strong resemblance
  19. Helen looked wonderful. I was afraid an hour was a little long for her, though. She couldn't remember a number of things, but that was okay - it was nice to see her again. Some things I recall - Helen approached to do the show. She loved that Maeve had children gathered abound her and was the center of a loving family. She adored Claire. Alan brought up that Claire created the role of Dr. Maude on One Life to Live that Helen played but Helen said she didn't remember that role. Helen loved Bernard Barrow(Johnny). Helen said Malcolm Groome (Pat#1) brought humanity to the role of Pat. Malcolm originally auditioned for the role of Bucky but then they had him audition for Pat. He turned down the soap at first. Helen said Kathleen Tolan (Mary #3)was a dear friend. Alan played Michael Corbett's (Michael Pavel) comments about Helen for her. I haven't watched that Michael Corbett interview yet. Helen said she's not a good cook. Malcolm admired Claire. Helen said it was hard to play Mary's death. He wasn't on the show at the time but he watched it. Helen adlibbed "Have a good life " at the end of the finale. Malcolm had acted/worked with Faith Catlin (Faith #1)in North Carolina before RH. Someone asked about Faith being fired. Malcolm said he and the others didn't really understand it. He didn't think Faith understood , either. Blowing up the bar bothered Helen. Malcolm was in acting class with Nancy Addison(Jill) . Maclolm is close to Andrew Robinson (Frank #2) and still sees him and Andrew's wife. Helen said the show was rumored to be cancelled long before it was dropped. Malcolm said Maeve was the moral center of the show and as the years went by Maeve and Johnny became more accepting. Helen agreed. Alan asked about practical jokes on the set. Rose Alaio (Rose) sent a message that Daniel Hugh Kelly (Frank #3)was a prankster. Malcolm's 17 year old cat made an appearance. They agreed that the legacy of the show was family. Helen's mother lived to 101 years old. I hope Carl will help fill in some details. (Fingers crossed)
  20. Thanks! I didn't realize he was still on the show in June of 1982. Too bad they didn't show a 1982 clip of his instead of the 1981 slip with Ann Gillespie. He probably would have worked with Marg's Siobhan in '82. Thanks, again! Nice to see a bit of 1982.
  21. Thanks! I recall Louise said that Frank was to have been part of the Merit Kara story and they had do a big rewrite with DHK's sudden departure.
  22. I mentioned this blurb in the 1980's ratings thread. Not sure what the date of the column - which said show was experiencing ratings trouble. I was most curious about the big CP party ratings. Ratings from Jason's posts. 3-24 /6.7 3-31/7.3 4-7/7.3 4-14/6.5 4-21/6.8 4-28/6.7 5-5/5.3 End of the week was Crystal Palace opening 5-12/6.6 Continuation of Crystal Palace opening 5-19/6.1 End of Tiso and big Jack/Siobhan/Joe scenes 5-26/6.3 6-2/6.4 6-9/6.1 6-16/6.4 6-23/6.8 6-30/6.5 Sarah's last episode 7/1 7-7/6.5
  23. Unless some new information has surfaced, 10 or 15 years ago Louise Shaffer (Rae) had said Daniel had an out clause in his contract and he could leave at any time with little or no notice and that was what he did when the strike ended. He left to star in a prime time series (columns said different shows - either Murder Ink or Chicago Story).
  24. Ryan's Hope - I was wondering how the ratings were for the opening of the Crystal Palace and the celebrity guests (Otto Preminger, Van Johnson, and Betsy Palmer) at the party the week of the 12th. Another story was building up, and the following week of May 19th was the end of Tiso and big with Jack/Siobhan/Joe. I recall a column, sometime near this time, and the same column that announced that Sarah Felder was let go, also said the show was having "ratings trouble". MAY 12 - MAY 16, 1980 RYAN'S HOPE Dee threatened to sue Faith for prescribing the wrong medication for little John when she was drunk. Kim continued to use Michael to make Seneca jealous. Frank and Jill argued over Jill's work priorities. Dee introduced Rae to everyone as Roger's lover at the successful opening of the Crystal Palace. MAY 19 - MAY 23, 1980 Jack was wounded before he broke Tiso's neck. Siobhan refused to run off with Joe, who split after swearing he wasn't involved in Mary's murder. Siobhan retaliated that his drug business was the cause. Barry convinced Dee not to sue Faith. Frank talked Faith out of resigning since little John is mending. Joe was reported murdered. Kim lied to Michael that Seneca had led her down the garden path.
  25. I think those gift boxes may have been given out by Labine & Mayer and they weren't with the show when Louise was fired.
