  1. Former “General Hospital” star Johnny Wactor has died. The 37-year-old actor was shot and killed on Saturday, May 25 in downtown Los Angeles after three unidentified suspects were allegedly seen trying to steal a catalytic converter from his car, Wactor’s mother, Scarlett, told TMZ. According to the outlet, Wactor was with a coworker early Saturday morning “when they saw three men messing with Johnny’s car.” While Johnny did not interfere in the theft, either by trying to fight or stop them, “the men shot him anyway before taking off.” Police reports indicate paramedics rushed to the scene just after 3:00 a.m. PT. Sadly, Wactor was pronounced dead at the hospital. At present, police have not shared a description of the armed suspects, but Wactor’s mother hopes they’ll be found quickly. Joining the “General Hospital” cast in January 2020 as Brando Corbin, Wactor exited the series in September 2022 after the character was written out. Before joining the popular daytime drama series, Wactor appeared in episodes of such shows as “NCIS,” “Criminal Minds,” “Army Wives,” “Training Day” and “Animal Kingdom,” among others. In 2016, the actor had a supporting role in the Nicolas Cage film “USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage.” Wactor is survived by his mother and younger brothers, Lance and Grant. Note: The post R.I.P. 3. Although there can be some confusion, web soaps are typically scripted shows written by fans for online readers. This is where forums like mySONTV and the blog feature came into existence. Digital Dramas, or Web Serials, are typically scripted shows filmed by independent producers on a reduced budget compared to broadcast soaps. That's how I remember things.

As for Total Viewers, the first half-hour of “The Price is Right” (3.716 million) saw the biggest week-to-week increase, adding +78,000 viewers. Conversely, “The Bold and the Beautiful” (2.530 million) saw the biggest week-to-week decrease, losing -103,000 viewers, which also marked the show’s third smallest audience of the season. “General Hospital” (1.902 million) saw its first week-to-week uptick in six weeks among Total Viewers, marking its best performance since the week of April 22-26, 2024. That said, the show remained below two million viewers for the fifth consecutive week and the 11th time overall this season. 8. Concluding its inaugural season on Sunday, May 19, CBS’ “Tracker” has formally emerged as the #1 non-sports program on all of television for the 2023-2024 season, Nielsen reported on Wednesday. Averaging 11.58 million viewers when factoring in Live+7 days of viewing, “Tracker” now ranks as the first new series since the 2000 launch of “Survivor” to rank as the #1 non-sports show. The series has amassed 81.6 million viewers since its February debut. On average, the show is adding +3.4 million viewers over its Live+Same Day average, attracting more DVR playback than any other primetime series. In addition to being the #1 non-sports show of the season, “Tracker” is also the most-watched new series launch among Total Viewers since the debut of “Desperate Housewives” during the 2004-2005 television season – the ABC series averaged 23.7 million viewers. When factoring in multiplatform viewing, “Tracker” averages 19 million viewers in Live+35 (the first seven episodes). The viewership sees the CBS drama attract more viewers than several recent streaming successes, such as Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender” (15.5 million), “Baby Reindeer” (12.8 million) and “3 Body Problem” (11.0 million). Since the 2016-2017 television season, CBS has consistently launched the #1 new series each season, starting with “Bull” (2016-2017), “Young Sheldon” (2017-2018), “FBI” (2018-2019), “FBI: Most Wanted” (2019-2020), “The Equalizer” (2020-2021), “Ghosts” (2021-2022), “Fire Country” (2022-2023) and now “Tracker” (2023-2024). 9. John Nordstrom is the Daytime Emmy Award-winning composer behind the music heard during each episode of “The Bold and the Beautiful.” In this role, he watches every episode, ensuring that the music he composes is well integrated into scenes and that the show’s library consists of distinguishable variations of the same themes, sometimes as many as 20 iterations of each, so that fresh material is available where and whenever needed by the show’s music editor. Since joining the show in 2013, after previously composing music for “One Tree Hill” and “Judge Joe Brown,” among other shows, Nordstrom has composed more than 2,000 themes for “The Bold and the Beautiful.” In honor of the release of “The Bold and the Beautiful (Music from the Series Volume Two),” Soap Opera Network recently sat down with Nordstrom, where we learned more about his work, how music fits into the series’ atmosphere, and how he convinced producers to bring music from the show straight to the fans. “The Bold and the Beautiful (Music from the Series Volume Two)” 3726691 Records DK/Bell-Phillip TV Productions, Inc. Meet John Nordstrom Although John Nordstrom is based in Los Angeles, you might be surprised to learn that he lives and spends much of his time in Sun Valley, Idaho. There, he composed many of the tracks heard in Volume Two, something made possible by modern technology and the work-from-home era. Despite not being on set all the time, Nordstrom watches the show every day as it helps him keep up with what music from the show’s vast library is being used by the music editor and producers, particularly how often. This fact is important, Nordstrom notes, because “If I’ve given them a version that they really like, and they’ve used it quite a few times, then I’ll send over a fresh version so that the music editor has options, and he doesn’t have to play the same exact piece every time if he wants that feel.” Even with such a large catalog to choose from, Nordstrom continues adding to it, “complementing it with new, fresh pieces,” as evident by the release of Volume Two, which comprises music primarily composed within the last year to year and a half. “Probably the oldest pieces [on the album] have been Finn and Steffy reunited, and then everything else was composed very recently,” Nordstrom states, giving insight on the addition of the first two tracks off the album that highlights the romance between “SINN,” the couple name dubbed by fans of Steffy Forrester and John “Finn” Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood and Tanner Novlan) as they reunited in Monaco. The Thought Process Tanner Novlan, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (“The Bold and the Beautiful”) Sean Smith/CBS “[When] I write music for SINN, or Steffy, where it needs a playfulness, then I’ll write one that has that. If it needs darkness to it, or if there’s a darkness that’s kind of hovering over the storyline and the scene, I’ll write a version with some dark strings or some low depth to it,” says Nordstrom of the difference in tone to each theme. “Every theme kind of needs to cover a lot of different types of scenes.” Having options available also helps the music editor, particularly as how an actor performs a scene on screen sometimes differs from what’s written on the page. “The actors play it differently, obviously. They can play any way they want. But if the written page ends up having a different feel when they actually shoot it, then the music editor will [already] have what he needs to be able to add the mood,” points out Nordstrom. Evolution of Music John Nordstrom, Bradley P. Bell Sean Smith/Bell-Phillip TV Productions, Inc. The idea to release music from “The Bold and the Beautiful” stems from Nordstrom’s previous experience as a composer for the series “One Tree Hill,” where fans of that show would write to him and post montages online using music he scored, a fact that led him to approach producers of the daytime drama series, particularly [executive producer and head writer] Bradley P. Bell. “He had such respect for the fans that he immediately said, ‘Great, let’s do it!’” Nordstrom recalled the conversation he had with Bell, which led to the 2022 release of Volume One, consisting of 35 tracks. “It’s a very long collection of themes just because we had been working on the show for almost a decade,” noted Nordstrom. As for Volume Two, consisting of just 21 tracks, Nordstrom reveals he approached producers about it only very recently, and it, too, didn’t take much to convince them. “I just approached them again and said, ‘Hey, can we do Volume Two?’ They immediately made a piece of artwork for me, and two weeks later, it was up there, ready to stream.” When asked about the differences between composing music for a daytime series to that of a primetime show like “One Tree Hill,” Nordstrom says it pretty much boils down to quantity. “The amount of shows that ‘Bold and Beautiful’ has to produce every year, just the amazing turnaround, and the creative output that everybody on the team has to come up with, I would say that’s the biggest difference, but also just the fact that I that it’s a library of music, and just writing thousands and thousands of themes,” he shares. While the music library continues to grow, Nordstrom still enjoys it when older themes are used in newer episodes. “I love the fact that they get used, that they come in and out of the show, and something that I wrote 10 years ago will come on today’s show,” he says, adding, “I just love revisiting something that I did a long time ago and hearing it coming out of the speakers, each one you’re connected to emotionally.” Like some fans of the show, Nordstrom does not seek out what’s going to happen ahead of time, instead preferring to see how things play out on screen after the episodes are completed. “I like to see the aesthetic of how they shoot and how the actors approach everything,” he points out about his viewing habits. “I really like to watch it when finished. So I’m just as shocked as everybody else. I mean, there’s stuff that I was not tipped off on that my wife would walk in, and we would both just be screaming because we can’t believe what’s happening,” exclaims Nordstrom. “I love the shock factor. I love being surprised. And so I don’t I don’t read ahead.” What won’t come as a surprise is the release of Volume Three. While not currently in development, Nordstrom shares that another release will come at some point, and could include some older material. “I’m always writing new stuff, but I think what I’ll try and do is sneak in some of the older ones that weren’t on Volume One and Volume Two. I’ll try and sneak in a few of those,” he says. Combined, music from “The Bold and the Beautiful” Volume One and Volume Two consist of nearly four hours of material, totaling 66 tracks. They are both available now on most music streaming services, including Apple Music and Spotify. You can preview some of the tracks below. To stream Volume One on Apple Music, click here. You can also stream on Spotify. Volume Two can be streamed here on Apple Music or here on Spotify. “The Bold and the Beautiful” airs weekdays on CBS. The disorder was most famously played on “One Life to Live,” and has also been utilized in storylines on “General Hospital,” “Days of our Lives,” and even “The Young and the Restless” itself, when Ashley’s younger brother, Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), suffered from it. Ashley’s current alters include “Ms. Abbott,” “Ash” and “Belle.” To hear what Davidson thinks about playing the many sides of Ashley and her character’s plot against ex-husband Tucker (Trevor St. John), watch the Daytime Emmy Award winner live on the Michael Fairman Channel on Tuesday, May 21. 14. While she may have played the mother of the bride last week on “General Hospital,” actress Rena Sofer (Lois Cerullo) was herself a bride this weekend when she re-married her second husband, Sanford Bookstaver, a director and producer of film and television. “This weekend on what would have been our 21st wedding anniversary I got to Re-Marry my best friend @sbookstaver once again!” shared Sofer in an Instagram post published Monday morning. “The journey we are about to begin is the most exciting adventure, in a new state and town, but most thrilling is that we get to do it together as husband and wife!” “The three years we spent apart were humbling and heartbreaking but vital to us finding each other again,” noted Sofer in her post. “The love I have for you now is the foundation of my life. I can’t imagine another moment NOT walking through life with you hand in hand and our hearts entwined. You are the love of my life, and it’s not “oops we did it again” but I’m so grateful we did it again!” Bookstaver and Sofer first married in 2003, but after 14 years, they called it quits. However, in an April 29, 2019 Instagram post, Sofer revealed that the couple had reconciled and were engaged. “I have spent almost 19 years of my life with you and am so happy to spend the rest of my remaining years on this earth by your side,” Sofer said at the time. “While I don’t recommend divorce as a marriage counseling tool, it sure worked for us! I love you more than anything!!!! P. S. My proposal to come…” The couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Avalon Leone, in 2005. Sofer has another daughter from her previous marriage to “General Hospital” co-star Wally Kurth. Rosabel Rosalind Kurth was born in 1995. 16. Happy early anniversary!' Ironically, your seeking out ratings and finding SON is the way I found it 22 years ago, although it was through an Inside the Web (pre-Google) search result that got me here. Hahaha.
  17. Happy this content seems to be well received. Will continue to share as consistently as possible. Well if you do the math, there's gay men somewhere among the Total Viewers after subtracting Women 18-49, Women 18-34 and Women 25-54 by some miracle formula.
  18. @Michael Thank you for letting me know. This is an issue that I've been looking into since @Mona Kane Croft informed me of it. I think I might have found the cause of it, but will not know for sure until I get more information back from tech support. Will let you know what I find, if anything.
  19. In addition to reporting weekly ratings information for all daytime broadcast shows and the three daytime soaps, Soap Opera Network is happy to announce that we will once again be able to share daytime ratings among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 viewers, the two primary sales demographics used to sell advertising rates for daytime television programming. This marks the first time we’ve been able to share this information since at least March 2020. In addition to a breakdown of how daytime broadcast is performing among the two key women demos, we’re also getting a rare look at how the broadcast soaps are performing among Females 12-17 and Women 18-34, plus season-to-date in each category. For those seeking a breakdown of how the daytime broadcast shows performed during the week of May 6-10, 2024 among Women 18-49 and Women 25-54 rating, Households and Total Viewers, click here. 21. With “The Golden Bachelor” remaining one of the network’s top shows among Adults 18-49, ABC announced in February that it had greenlit a spinoff titled “The Golden Bachelorette,” which will air Wednesday nights this fall. While presenting its 2024-2025 fall primetime schedule, the network announced that Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, the fan favorite from “The Golden Bachelor,” who self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose, will seek a second chance at finding love as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Despite other challenges she’s faced along the way – including the heartbreaking loss of her husband after 32 years of marriage – ABC notes that Vassos remains “an embodiment of strength and grace as a devoted mother of four, grandmother of three, and school administrator while finding solace in the music of Elton John, spending time with her dog, and cooking.” As Vassos steps into the golden spotlight and begins her journey to seek love again, she envisions a future filled with shared moments by the beach and cherished time with family, something she could not find during her brief time on “The Golden Bachelor.” Speaking of “The Golden Bachelor,” Gerry Turner, who announced alongside wife Theresa Nist on “Good Morning America” that the couple were getting divorced just three months after their live televised wedding, took to Instagram to congratulate Vassos on becoming the Golden Bachelorette. In his post, he said, “You will be phenomenal as the new representative of a generation. From one Golden to another… relax, breathe and enjoy.” “The Golden Bachelorette” will air Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. this fall on ABC. Each 90-minute episode will lead to all-new episodes of the comedy “Abbott Elementary.” Note: The post Fan Favorite Joan Vassos Named ABC’s First-Ever ‘Golden Bachelorette’ appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. 22. ABC recently unveiled its 2024-2025 primetime schedule, which sees the network airing just five scripted series, including new dramas “High Potential” and “Doctor Odyssey.” “Grey’s Anatomy” will shift one hour to the 10:00 p.m. slot on Thursdays while the network will mark the return of “The Wonderful World of Disney” to its schedule. ABC “Dancing with the Stars” will be moving to Tuesday nights so that the network can air consistent programming that won’t be interrupted by “Monday Night Football” broadcasts scheduled for select Mondays. Said Monday night programming options will be announced at a later date. Following “Dancing with the Stars” will be “High Potential,” written by Oscar-nominated Drew Goddard and based on the popular French series. The crime procedural stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a single mom with an exceptional mind whose unconventional knack for solving crimes leads to an unusual and unstoppable partnership with a by-the-book seasoned detective. Set to finish the season as the No. 1 entertainment network among Adults 18-49, ABC is banking on a new iteration in the “The Bachelor” franchise with the launch of “The Golden Bachelorette,” which starts off Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. with 90-minute episodes leading into “Abbott Elementary,” the only half-hour comedy on the network’s fall schedule. With 43 million viewers tuning into the debut of “The Golden Bachelor” across all platforms last fall, “The Golden Bachelorette” highlights Joan Vassos as the first-ever Golden Bachelorette. Vassos is a 61-year-old grandmother and school administrator from Rockville, Maryland, seeking a second chance at finding love. Viewers will recall Vassos from “The Golden Bachelor,” where she self-eliminated herself from the competition when a medical concern with her daughter arose. Closing out Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. will be the ABC News Studios documentary series “Scamanda.” Based on the No. 1 podcast of the same name, “Scamanda” tells the story of Amanda Riley — a wife, mother, blogger and Christian — whose tragic cancer tale captivates thousands. But Amanda has a secret that she’s dying to keep, and after an anonymous tip to an investigative reporter, her own words may prove to be her downfall. On Thursday nights, the network will kick things off with a two-hour block of Ryan Muphy-produced productions led by “9-1-1,” back for an eighth season (second on ABC), followed by the new series “Doctor Odyssey” at 9:00 p.m. Starring Joshua Jackson (“Fringe,” “Dawson’s Creek”) and Don Johnson (“Nash Bridges,” “Miami Vice”), “Doctor Odyssey” is a high-octane procedural that takes place aboard a luxury cruise ship where the staff works hard and plays harder. It’s all hands on deck for Max, the new on-board doctor and his small but mighty medical team as they navigate unique medical crises and each other miles from shore. Rounding out the network’s schedule are the returns of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,” which celebrates a monumental 35th season, and “Shark Tank,” as well as popular films under “The Wonderful World of Disney” umbrella. Friday staple “20/20” will remain in its two-hour Friday night slot. Craig Erwich Austin Hargrave/Hulu “We have a lot to celebrate as we gear up to deliver a fall season that’s packed with compelling new series, beloved fan favorites and must-see live events,” said Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group. “We’re focused on driving our viewership with an expanding slate anchored by best-in-class talent and supported by the enviable and combined reach of ABC and Hulu.” Other series set to air on the network at some point next season include returning dramas “The Rookie” and “Will Trent,” which will debut midseason, along with the celebratory farewell season of legacy comedy “The Conners.” Also returning midseason are “American Idol,” “The Bachelor,” “Celebrity Jeopardy!,” “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune” and “What Would You Do?” The network will also see the return of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” this time from executive producer Reese Witherspoon and hosted by world-renowned organizing duo Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin of “The Home Edit.” As always, all-new episodes of ABC programming will be made available for viewing next day on Hulu. The network noted that fall premiere dates will be announced in the coming weeks, and additional midseason announcements will be made later. 23. REMINDER Each year, the Directors and Writers thread is created so that posters can share and discuss behind-the-scenes changes impacting the daytime soap operas, specifically to note when a director or writer's work first materialized on air or ceased appearing throughout the calendar year. While light conversation on such matters is warranted, please do not detract from the topic's purpose. It can be distracting and is completely unnecessary.
  24. It was widely known ABC had been trying to dump OLTL long before they finally did. There was a reason it got the smallest studio and was an afterthought compared to its network siblings, AMC and GH. JFP got the GH job because she did what the network thought impossible at the time, which was to bring up OLTL's numbers to the point it rivaled GH for #1 in the key sales demos. As for a five-hour soap block you're mentioning, the specific time frame I'm talking about Port Charles was already on the air and continued the curse of affiliates not airing ABC's half-hour soaps in a consistent slot which caused low viewership. I don't believe ABC would have successfully been able to gain a half-hour from their affiliates as such.
