  2. With the show’s premiere episode garnering 14 million viewers across all platforms, NBC has ordered five additional episodes of “Happy’s Place,” starring country music legend Reba McEntire, who also appears as a judge on “The Voice.” The five-episode order brings the total number of episodes ordered for the 2024-2025 television season to 18 episodes, NBC notes. A decision on whether there will be a second season will be made at a later date. According to the network, “Happy’s Place” has improved its time slot (Fridays, 8:00 p.m.) by +90% and +88% in the key Adults 18-49 demographic since the show’s Friday, October 18 premiere. The series tells the story of Bobbie (McEntire), a woman who inherits her father’s tavern aptly called “Happy’s Place,” only to be shocked to learn that as part of the deal also gets a new business partner, Isabella (Belissa Escobedo), a twentysomething half-sister she never knew she had. In addition to McEntire and Escobedo, the comedy series also stars Melissa Peterman, Pablo Castelblanco, Tokala Black Elk and Rex Linn. Produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, “Happy’s Place” was created by writer Kevin Abbott and Julie Abbott, the series is executive produced by Kevin Abbott, Reba McEntire, Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis, Matt Berry and Pamela Fryman. 9. Ever since Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) announced his decision to leave ABC’s “General Hospital” in an Instagram post on Saturday, which has since amassed more than 20,000 likes, several of the actor’s co-stars have weighed in, all of whom wishing the nearly 15-year daytime veteran the best of luck as he embraces a new adventure. “Still mad !! But I adore you !!!” commented on-screen mother, Laura Wright (Carly Spencer), whose response included three smiling face with hearts emojis. As for Duell’s on-screen romantic partner, Katelyn MacMullen (Willow Corinthos), she said, “Love you, Chad!!!!” Her sentiments were echoed by Duell’s on-screen sister, Eden McCoy (Josslyn Jacks), who said, “I love you,” using the index pointing at viewer and star emojis. “You will be so missed!!!!” said Sofia Mattsson (Sasha Gilmore), who noted, “Excited to see what’s next!” Her post also included a heart and star-struck emoji for emphasis. While his character is romancing Michael’s wife on-screen, Drew Cain’s portrayer Cameron Mathison is showing the love, saying, “Love you brother.” “Who wrote this for you…..,” questioned Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri), before clarifying, “Just kidding. I love you Cheddar.” Andrea Bogart, who played Abby Haver from October 2010 to December 2011, one of Michaels’ first romantic partners on the daytime drama series, shared, “Awe sending you love and blessing with all you do Chad! #mabby big hugs.” “You will be missed! Thanks for always being one of the friendliest and funniest guys on set!” posted Scarlett Fernandez (Charlotte Cassadine). Luana Garcia, Duell’s real-life partner and mother to their child, Dawson, also responded to the news, saying, “Little D and I are always by your side, supporting you through every decision. Other respondents included Theo and Erik Olson, the twins who previously portrayed Wiley Corinthos, son of Michael and Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier). The parent-managed Instagram account of the Olson twins commented, “Oh man- you will be SO missed by everyone! Can’t wait to see what your future holds!” The parent-managed Instagram account for Scarlette Brielle, who plays Donna Corinthos on the soap, said, “Good luck with everything!!!!! Scarlett had so much fun with you, and getting to know you.” http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/media/2024/11/Chad-Duell-Instagram-1024x576.jpg@duelly/Instagram As previously reported, “General Hospital” has no immediate plans to recast the role of Michael Corinthos when Duell exits the series in the new year, with the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, saying “I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.” A final airdate for Duell was unknown at press time. 10. The oldest skewing shows on TV are the news shows on FOX News, CNN and MSNBC. In terms of scripted, the longer a show is on the older it skews, hence why the soaps skew so old.
  11. It's not so much the show/show's producers paying attention to those categories, it's the network/studio that will closely follow the show's performance in terms of ratings. It's my understanding that The Talk wasn't so much canceled due to low ratings from its CBS airings, it's the lack of viewership from streaming (Paramount+), YouTube, and minimal pop culture references in the same vein as The View which does well on Hulu, YouTube and is a daily topic due to their pivot to full-time politics discussion. Looking at the broadcast ratings, in particular, The Talk did 165,000 viewers in Women 25-54 to The View's 190,000 during the week of November 11-15, 2024. The Talk outperformed both GMA3 and NBC News Daily, and has done so all season. Similarly, among Women 18-49 viewers, The View pulled in 131,000 while The Talk pulled 115,000. Again, not so different. In the demos The View did a 0.20 rating in Women 18-49 to The Talk's 0.17, both rounded to a 0.2 rating. Meanwhile, in Women 25-54, The View did a 0.31 demo while The Talk did a 0.27, both rounded to a 0.3 rating. Point is, it isn't the ratings that got The Talk canceled because the show is essentially performing on par with The View in all the key demographics that sell ads, despite half the audience (1.221 million vs. 2.522 million). Therefore, it's the lack of ROI for CBS outside of broadcast that made the network decide to dump it. All that being said, as long as Beyond the Gates does as well as GH or better in the demos, and at least shows a substantial bump in viewership, they'll be happy with its broadcast performance. Meanwhile, they'll be even happier with the show having a big following in streaming, YouTube views and social media follows. It would also be a boon for them should the show skew much younger than the other four soaps, particularly in the 18-34 demo. By skewing younger, I also am referring to the median age. Currently, Y&R/B&B is about 73/71, with GH at 68/69. If BTG could do 60 or lower, that would be "cool" to them.
  12. As previously reported, Chad Duell is exiting his role as Michael Corinthos on ABC’s “General Hospital,” with his final airdate said to be sometime in early 2025. Chad Duell Christine Bartolucci/Disney In response to Duell’s decision to leave the series, executive producer Frank Valentini took to X (formerly Twitter) late Saturday evening, saying in a statement, “I am sad to confirm the news of Chad Duell’s forthcoming exit from ‘General Hospital.’ I have loved working with Chad over the years and wish him nothing but the best. He is a terrific actor and will be missed by everyone at ‘GH.’” For those wondering what Duell’s exit might mean for the character, Valentini indicated that there are still plenty of “great” stories to tell for Michael as the countdown begins toward Duell’s exit, but there are no immediate plans to recast the character at this time. “There are no plans to recast his role at this time, but you never know in daytime,” Valentini noted. “I can promise a great story for Michael and his family when Chad exits in the new year.” Before joining the cast of “General Hospital” in April 2010, Duell was best known for his roles in two of Disney Channel’s most iconic series – “Wizards of Waverly Place,” playing Ronald Longcape, Jr., and “The Suite Life on Deck,” where he played the recurring role of Holden. From 2002-2008, Dylan Cash portrayed the role of Michael Corinthos. After the character suffered a brain injury after being shot in the head, the show temporarily rested the character, literally, by placing him in a coma. Drew Garrett ABC By 2009, Drew Garrett had taken over the role but was later let go after just a year with the series. At the time, Michael had just murdered his stepmother, Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Joy Brown), with him and his father, Sonny (Maurice Benard), frantically trying to hide the truth from the world. “We want to thank Drew Garrett for his time with ‘General Hospital’ and wish him well in all his future endeavors,” a rep said in a statement announcing Garrett’s ouster and Duell’s casting. Garrett later received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination for his portrayal of Michael, losing the award to former “The Bold and the Beautiful” actor Drew Tyler Bell (ex-Thomas Forrester) in the Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series category. Outside of the daytime drama series, Duell’s credits include appearances on shows such as “The Bay” and The CW’s “Arrow.” In 2018, he was featured in the Lifetime original movie “Lethal Admirer.” Throughout his nearly 15-year run in daytime, Duell has received seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations, including three for Outstanding Younger Actor (2011, 2012, 2014) and three for Supporting Actor (2015, 2017, 2023). In 2018, he received a nomination for his role as Adam Kenway during the third season of “The Bay” in the category of Outstanding Guest Performer in a Digital Daytime Drama Series. 18. Congratulations are in order for “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Annika Noelle (Hope Logan) and actor John Patrick Amedori (“Three Women,”“Dear White People”) who reportedly proposed to Noelle in October at a location that “holds a special meaning to us,” the couple recently stated in a joint interview with PEOPLE. Published on Monday, Noelle told the outlet, “He planned an entire day, full of activities that reflected the journey of our relationship thus far. From the experiences, to the food, to the music, it was incredibly thoughtful and personal to us.” When it came to choosing the ring, Amedori revealed he wanted “something elegant and classic that would also complement the future wedding bands we will be designing together.” Although he was the one to propose to Noelle, Amedori also received his own ring from Noelle. As shown in photos from an exclusive photoshoot with PEOPLE, Noelle gave her fiancé a signet-style jewelry piece that easily complements her engagement ring. “From the moment I met her, I knew there was no hiding,” said Amedori of Noelle. “She encourages one to be their truest self. She also has great taste in music.” Meanwhile, Noelle cited Amedori’s “kind heart,” “quick wit” and “listening ear” as key qualities she attributes to her future husband. 19. Bluesky has quickly emerged as the social media platform of choice for those defecting from X (formerly Twitter) in the weeks following the U.S. Presidential election which saw former president Donald J. Trump declared President-elect Trump, soon to become the 47th president of the United States, and a change in X’s terms of service that went into effect on Friday, November 15, which allows the service to analyze text and other information provided by users to help in the “training of our machine learning and artificial intelligence models.” Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis, “General Hospital”) was one of the first major soap stars to flock to Bluesky immediately following the election, saying to her followers at the time, “I am here now as I can no longer defend speaking on a site controlled by a dangerous meglamaniacal [sic] oligarch.” She added, “My pg, my rules so trump supporters will be blocked. This is a safe space 4 those of us in need of a place to commune with like hearts & minds & humor when we can find it again.” Like her postings on X, Grahn continues posting about topics near and dear to her on Bluesky and has thus far amassed more than 5,500 followers since opening her account on November 6. You can follow Grahn on Bluesky by clicking here (@nancyleegrahn.bsky.social). On Sunday, November 17, “The Young and the Restless” star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) informed his more than 190,000 followers that he would cease posting on X and would instead be found on alternate platforms, including Bluesky and Threads. In response to one of his X followers, Braeden said, “Since this billionaire [Elon Musk] bought TWITTER, I can’t abide the brazen looting of America by his billionaire buddies!” “[Musk] wants to cut the budget by 2 trillion dollars; where do you think that’s come from? From SOCIAL PROGRAMS, like SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE, MEDICAID, AFFORDABLE CARE ACT, while giving huge tax cuts to BILLIONAIRES!!” Braeden continued in his posting, citing President-elect Trump naming Musk and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy as the leaders of what’s being called the Department of Government Efficiency (“DOGE”). According to President-elect Trump, in announcing DOGE, the non-government agency will “dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies – Essential to the ‘Save America’ Movement.” Additionally, it will “provide advice and guidance from outside of government, and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never before seen.” Furthering his point, Braeden noted, “We are all distracted with bs! It’s BLATANT! That’s why I am moving onto other platforms! Can’t take the obvious grift anymore! And the appointments of crooks and very questionable characters to top positions in that FRAUD’S cabinet!!” According to Braeden’s final post on X, his official handle on Bluesky is @ericbraedenyr.bsky.social, NOT eric-braedenyr.bsky.social, which is an imposter account mirroring the actor’s social media postings. Do not follow that account even though it has more followers (at press time). To follow Braeden on Bluesky, click here (ericbraedenyr.bsky.social). Martha Madison Todd Williamson/Peacock Although no direct correlation can be attributed to the U.S. election or X’s T.O.S., other soapers joining Grahn and Braeden onto the butterfly app include Maura West (Ava Jerome, “General Hospital”), Tina Huang (Melinda Trask, “Days of our Lives”), Yvette Nicole Brown (“General Hospital,” “Community”), Christie Clark (Carrie Reed, “Days of our Lives”), Colton Little (Andrew Donovan, “Days of our Lives”), Ryan Quan (writer, “Days of our Lives”), Michele Val Jean (executive producer/showrunner, “Beyond the Gates”), Christopher Sean (Paul Narita, “Days of our Lives”), Rebecca Staab (ex-Elizabeth Barrington, “Port Charles”), William deVry (ex-Julian Jerome, “General Hospital”)), Sara Bibel (writer, “Beyond the Gates”), Charles Shaughnessy (ex-Victor Cassdine, “General Hospital”), Martha Madison (Belle Black, “Days of our Lievs”), Greg Rikaart (Leo Stark, “Days of our Lives”), Emma Samms (ex-Holly Sutton, “General Hospital”) and Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe Lane, “Days of our Lives”), among others. In a post alerting her more than 88,000 X followers on Saturday, November 9, West revealed she had joined Bluesky, saying, “Moving to Bluesky … same @ there… If you’re already there, lemme know! Xxo.” To follow West on Bluesky, click here (maurawest.bsky.social). In addition to the aforementioned talent, several soap opera-specific news outlets hav also joined Bluesky, including Soap Opera Network, Soap Opera Digest, Soap Hub, Daytime Confidential, Michael Fairman TV and Soap Opera News, among others. Among the five daytime soaps, “Days of our Lives” is the first to have an active account. Just weeks earlier, the soap opera officially joined TikTok. As for mainstream news organizations, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe, USA Today, The Orlando Sentinel and New York Daily News and Variety are just some of the online/print publications that have joined the platform while CNN and NPR are among the few broadcasters who’ve also made their way over. Note: While many individuals, publications, outlets, and business entities have created Bluesky or alternate social media accounts, there aren’t any official indications that they will cease operating their X accounts. That said, on Tuesday, November 19, Jay Graber, CEO of Bluesky, announced the platform has since amassed 20 million active users. By the end of October, Bluesky had just 13 million users. “We’ve been adding over a million users per day for the last few days. To celebrate, here are 20 fun facts about Bluesky,” said Graber on the platform’s growth in such a short period. To read the facts list, click here. 20. Without evidence, please do not make such a claim about an actor/real-life person.
  21. What I find especially noteworthy in this VideoAmp data is that despite Stephen Colbert receiving a reported $15 million annual salary (as of 2019), his show gets fewer viewers than The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. Goes to show that even though the scripted shows in particular have more on-screen talent (i.e. cast) to pay for in their annual budgets, the overall budgets for each is nearly identical, if not less, than Colbert by himself. I believe networks are now scrutinizing those high salaries for late night hosts and news personalities, and this is evidence that they aren't worth all that much when their shows don't perform, at least among viewers, any higher than a "cheap" daytime soap. Just my opinion.
  22. In a viral video posted to X (formerly Twitter) last Friday, “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco can be seen giving a good speech to the cast and crew of the daytime drama series as she finished filming her final scenes as Sam McCall, which aired Friday, November 1. “I’ve been on this lot for 25 years, and you have all been my family – not only my second family but my first family – and I just thank each and every one of you for all these memories and this experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life,” said an emotional Monaco, as she held back tears while holding a bouquet. “Mark Teschner [show’s Casting Director], you started this whole journey for me and it has been a wild ride,” Monaco noted in her speech the 21 years she played Sam on “General Hospital” and her more than three-year run as Livvie Locke on “Port Charles.” Teschner cast both shows during his 35 years at ABC. “It will not be the last you see of me,” Monaco concluded in her speech, which received a resounding applause from those in attendance. In addition to Monaco herself, other notable individuals shown in the video included Monaco’s now former on-screen mother Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis), former on-screen love interest Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falocneri), director Phideaux Xavier, Teschner, and executive producer Frank Valentini, among other cast, crew and producers whose faces could not be made out due to the low quality of the video. On Friday, September 27, Monaco taped her final episode of “General Hospital” at the Prospect Studios in Hollywood, California. In a post on X, Monaco’s mother, Carmina, said, “I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on ‘General Hospital.’” “This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she has had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength,” Carmina continued. “You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times. Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her. Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made. We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.” Outside of the now-viral video of her speech, which has garnered more than 115,000 views at press time, Kelly has not formally addressed her exit from “General Hospital” outside of since-deleted cryptic comments made on Instagram and X, although she has indicated that she will “give a proper statement” when the time is right. On Tuesday, November 19, “General Hospital” will air a multi-episode celebration of life (i.e. funeral) for Sam, wherein friends, family and loved ones will share their fondest memories of her. The episode also marks the revival of the Lulu Spencer character, now played by Alexa Havins, who is waking up from a four-year coma following a bomb explosion at the Floating Rib bar back in November 2020. The bomb was planted by Julian Jerome (William deVry) at the behest of Lulu’s uncle, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), and it took the lives of Dev Cerci (Ashton Arbab) and Dustin Phillips (Mark Lawson). Although Cyrus has yet to be discovered as the ultimate culprit for the explosion that led Lulu to lose a key time in her life, viewers are beginning to suspect that he might have been the one behind Sam’s death after she willingly donated a piece of her liver to help a comatose Lulu. His reasoning has yet to be fleshed out. Note: The post ‘General Hospital’ Star Kelly Monaco Gets Her Flowers in Viral Video appeared first on the Soap Opera Network website. Read More
  23. Ignore them. Until we get to the February Discussion thread in 2025, this is the default thread for the show. With the full contract cast fleshed out, all characters/cast members can be discussed, have pictures shown, retweets, Instagrams, etc. Beyond the Gates is for all viewers,. not just one demographic. If it were, it'll fail. Exactly this. Until writing the ratings post I did earlier, I didn't think of anything else, but the more I see that phrase in PRs, the more it annoys me.
