  6. Marcus Coloma, Nikolas Cassadine, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital

When news first broke in early December that Marcus Coloma would be exiting the role of Nikolas Cassadine on “General Hospital,” it was reported the actor had been let go from the series and refused to tape his final scenes. Now, via a spokesperson, Coloma is setting the record straight, stating, “due to health issues with his recent Covid exposure, the network graciously agreed that he should not film the remaining few days of the year.” The statement was released to Deadline and further notes that the timing of Coloma’s upcoming departure from the soap happened to coincide with the actor concluding the requirements of his three-year contract with the soap opera.

Coloma, who suddenly unfollowed all of his “General Hospital” cast mates on social media just before reports of his departure came to light, joined the cast of the drama series in 2019 and will last air in late January 2023, ABC confirmed to Soap Opera Network.

“I was immediately taken with the family feel of the ensemble cast,” Coloma says in a statement reflecting on his time on the series. “I fell in love with the extremely passionate fanbase. Their outpouring of love and excitement, week after week has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I will always be grateful for their kindness and support.”

Read the full spokesperson statement below, which includes Coloma’s comments:

Dear Friends and Fans of Marcus Coloma,

As mentioned in a statement provided by ABC, we wanted to confirm that Marcus “will no longer be playing the role of Nikolas Cassadine. His last airdate will be at the end of January.” Marcus has wrapped his 3-year contract with ‘General Hospital’ and has thoroughly enjoyed working on the show with such a talented group of actors, writers, producers and directors. Unfortunately, due to health issues with his recent Covid exposure, the network graciously agreed that he should not film the remaining few days of the year.

Marcus has been thrilled to bring nearly 300 episodes of the iconic and complicated character of Nikolas back to life. “I was immediately taken with the family feel of the ensemble cast,” said Coloma. “And I fell in love with the extremely passionate fanbase. Their outpouring of love and excitement, week after week has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I will always be grateful for their kindness and support.”ABC has yet to confirm whether it plans to recast the role of Nikolas Cassadine following Coloma’s exit. The character is currently involved in several front burner storylines.

This is great and I even suggested the same thing a while back.

A Spanish soap opera is currently doing this except the guy mourning is gay and has just lost his boyfriend. His best friend from childhood has been there for him. He had a girlfriend who did him wrong but got pregnant. He is now a single dad and has developed feelings for his childhood friend who he's considered a brother. He hasn't revealed his feelings to him but a new guy has appeared showing interested in the gay friend.

The two childhood friends have kissed but the gay guy was so drunk he doesn't remember it. He also kissed him on his death bed when he thought he was losing him due to attempted suicide.

    😂😂😂

What soap is this? Sounds interesting. Is it on YouTube or somewhere online?

But... it was already confirmed Coloma had COVID, by himself, in November... unless he got it another time after?

I doubt Disney-ABC would accept a falsified proof of vaccination. If it were that easy, two other former cast members would have stayed.

He said in that post he got Covid in October. He returned on-screen a week after that article was published. His final scenes would have been taped this month. Per the statement, he had “health issues with his recent Covid exposure,” so it sounds like there were contined issues from when he last got it, which IMO, coincides with the SOD matter.

  9. Maurice Benard, Sonny Corinthos, Sarah Joy Brown, Carly Corinthos, General Hospital, GH, GH ABC, #GH, #GeneralHospital

“General Hospital” star Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) will welcome actress Sarah Joy Brown as his first guest of 2023 for his podcast series “State of Mind with Maurice Benard.” The episode will be released Sunday, January 1 on the show’s YouTube channel.

“I’m excited to see it, thank you for talking with me,” stated Brown in response to a tweet by Benard in which he informed her that he just finished editing their episode together.

Details of what the two discussed in the episode was unknown at press time.

Appearing in numerous daytime dramas, including “As The World Turns,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Days of our Lives,” Brown is probably best known for her three-time Daytime Emmy Award winning portrayal as Carly Corinthos on “General Hospital.” She originated the role in 1996 and remained part of the show’s cast until 2001. From 1999 until her departure, Brown worked alongside Benard as they helped create the supercouple known as  “S&C” or “CarSon.” In 2007, Brown returned to “General Hospital” as a new character named Claudia Zacchara, a mob princess who also was romantically involved with Benard’s Sonny character. Outside of daytime soaps, Brown has also starred in such shows as “V.R. Troopers,” “Cold Case,” “Beacon Hills,” and more recently, “Studio City,” among others.

“State of Mind with Maurice Benard” is the only podcast series where fans can watch their favorite daytime stars, past and present, discuss important issues, particularly relating to mental health. As explained by Benard, “[‘State of Mind’] means being 100% present, feeling completely at peace inside of you, not letting your thoughts control your life and always looking for ways to be the best that you can be.”

On Sunday, January 8, Benard’s much anticipated discussion with co-stars Cameron Mathison (Drew), Laura Wright (Carly) and Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) from the iconic Graceland is set to air. The episode, which is being released in honor of Elvis Presley’s birthday, was taped in late October when the show brought cast members back to Memphis for the first time since pre-pandemic. The episode will also include a surprise guest who will leave Benard speechless.

As previously reported, John Aniston’s final appearance as the iconic Victor Kiriakis on “Days of our Lives” aired Monday, December 26. In addition to marking an historic moment for fans of the daytime drama series, the episode also marked a new beginning for “Pride: The Series” creator Dorell Anthony who unknowingly wrote the late actor’s final words as the episode’s script writer, his first since joining the show’s writing team earlier this year.

“My very first episode with ‘Days of our Lives’ was also John Aniston’s final episode,” Anthony said in a recent interview with The Palestine Herald, a Texas based publication covering Palestine County and Herald County. “To write for such an iconic actor and character was such an honor, and it’s an experience no one can ever take away from me.” Aniston died November 11, 2022. The episode was taped in June.

“The show films six months in advance, so my episodes were shot in June, July and August, but won’t air until December, January and February,” Anthony noted of the show’s shooting schedule. “It’s a long wait, and I’m not allowed to say certain things, but it is so fun when it finally airs.”

Prior to writing for Peacock’s only scripted daily serial, Anthony, an East Texas native who has an associate’s degree in Theater from Tyler Junior College and graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in Performance and Production, made a name for himself when he appeared in the online reboot of “All My Children.” Later, he created, starred in and executive produced the digital drama “Pride: The Series” which follows a group of friends who navigate life through personal complexities and endeavors as they discover who they are, what they want and what they are willing to do to get their heart’s desire. Throughout, viewers are provided with an up close and personal experience from the perspective of a diverse cast of characters led by Kai, Trina, Travis and Adam (Anthony, and actors Ashley Mitchell, Braden Bradley, and Adam Andrew Rios).

Beyond “Pride,” Anthony would go on to make appearances on CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” digital drama “Asunder: The Series,” audio drama “Forever and a Day” and “General Hospital,” which Anthony credits for much of his success.

“I owe much of it to [‘General Hospital’ executive producer] Frank Valentini,” Anthony shares. “He encouraged me to go to ‘DAYS’ and now I have several episodes that will air in the coming season.”

I am so grateful that you went soaring into the heavens in peace – and without pain. And on 11/11 no less! You always had perfect timing. That number will forever hold an even greater meaning for me now 🕊I’ll love you till the end of time.” Aniston’s comments on that date is a reference to the United States celebrating Veterans Day, particularly as her father had worked as an intelligence officer for the United States Navy after graduating from college.

Regarding the performer terrorizing the show’s cast/crew, including “unleashing their fury on producers, directors, and other crew,” the magazine notes, “Staff does their best to avoid contact, but co-stars and key departments are forced to smile and play nice to not upset production. It’s a tense situation.”
    2. With COVID testing and positive outcomes becoming a regular part of our everyday lives, it’s a wonder why “This soap is keeping a lid on which cast member, who figures prominently in a current storyline, [that] tested positive for Covid and had to quarantine at home.”
    3. According to the magazine, “An actor declined to name his/her significant other, although that person’s identity is prominently displayed on social media.” The answer is maybe too evident if you ask us.
    4. A leading lady on her soap is threatened by the “rising storyline prominence of a more recent hire.”
    5. Meanwhile, two familiar faces will be “on this soap in the coming weeks.”

  15. Billy Flynn, Chad DiMera, Marci Miller, Abigail Dervaux, Days of our Lives, DAYS, DOOL, #DAYS, #DOOL, #DaysofourLives

Christmas is a time for joy and togetherness, and “Days of our Lives” is bringing all the holiday cheer with the returns of several fan favorites on tap.

On the Thursday, December 22 episode of the soap, Kyle Lowder was back in Salem as Rex surprised Kate (Lauren Koslow). Meanwhile, the Friday, December 23 episode is jam-packed with returns, including Lamon Archey as Eli, Cady McClain as Jennifer and even Marci Miller as Abby.

First up: Chad (Billy Flynn) meets up with Jennifer at Abigail’s grave as they reflect on memories of their loved one. “They’re still grieving in different ways, but they’re at a place now of more acceptance,” says Flynn in the December 26, 2022 issue of Soap Opera Digest, on newsstands now. “They’re able to reflect on and understand what Abigail’s life was, who she was and how she served everybody. Chad feels like he has to gather a bit of strength and be there for Abigail’s mother. He is comforting Jennifer.”

Later in the episode, as everyone gathers around to hang up ornaments on the Horton tree, Chad imagines Abigail and they talk about how he is going to make Christmas okay for their kids as they celebrate their first holiday without their mother. “It’s very sweet,” teases Flynn of the husband and wife conversation. “I kind of viewed it as the audience getting a glimpse into the relationship that Chad and Abigail have now.”

Elsewhere, while he’s currently moonlighting as Principal Carter on The CW’s “All American,” Lamon Archey is once again back in Salem when Eli pays a visit to grandma Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) with the twins in toe. “It has been a while since Eli had seen his family and vice versa,” the actor tells Soap Opera Digest. “It is a good time to get everyone together, and what better time to do it than Christmas?”

Catching up with his former co-stars was a great experience, Archey notes, specifically when he caught up with Susan and her husband Bill Hayes. “I hadn’t seen them since I left. I think I maybe emailed them once or twice during the time I was gone. It was really good seeing them and the other faces I hadn’t seen in a while. It was really good reconnecting with my co-workers.”

As for what fans can expect to learn from Eli considering Lani (Sal Stowers) is unable to bask in the cheer considering she’s currently in prison, Archey says, “I believe Eli says she’s doing the best she can under the circumstances. She’s pulling through, but definitely misses being with her family, especially during the holidays.”

Although Archey’s latest return is a short one, don’t be surprised to see him pop up again sometime in the near future. “I talked to Albert [Alarr, co-executive producer] before I left,” he notes. “He had asked me if I wanted to come back and do some more episodes. I said we can definitely talk and figure it out. Recently, they did reach out to me and asked if I’d stop by again and help with some stories they have going on. So, of course, I’m down to pop in and lend a helping hand.”

Outside of “All American,” Archey can next be seen in the TV movie “Love Me to Death” which also stars actors Brian White, Pamela Jones and Tisha Campbell, among others. A release date has not been announced.

  20. There was a kink in the system when we kept trying to update the server to PHP 8.0. The then current software version of the message boards worked for the most part but certain links came back as broken according to web browsers. We had to revert back to an older, but no longer supported version of PHP to rectify the issue. However, this prevented us from upgrading to the now current software version.

After ensuring a secure backup was available and with additional support from our hosting team, we were able to upgrade to to latest software version this morning. Things now seem to be working correctly, particularly the Real Housewives thread which had been one of the bigger threads impacted by the aforementioned software issues.

Let me know if you find any more kinks.

  21. Tamara Braun, Ava Vitali, Days of our Lives, DAYS, DOOL, #DAYS, #DOOL, #DaysofourLives

With her character being sent away to Bayview Sanitarium following her recent dirty deeds, including attempted murder and planting a bomb at Susan’s memorial service, Tamara Braun’s run as Ava Vitali on “Days of our Lives” has come to an end. The actress last appeared on the Tuesday, December 20 episode of the Peacock series.

On Instagram, Braun shared numerous behind the scenes photos from her final taping day on set, captioning the post, saying, “ Hey all you Days fans!! If you want to see Ava off, tune into DOOL today for her last day in Salem.” She added, “Thanks for all the love and support you continue to show me. I will miss you all!!” She concluded her post by informing fans that she’ll still be accessible via the social media platform.

Braun first joined the “Days of our Lives” cast in 2008 as Ava before later moving on to take on the role of Reese Williams on “All My Children” that same year. She returned to “DAYS” in 2011, this time playing a recast Taylor Walker. She again reprised the Ava role from 2015-2016; and finally in 2020 before wrapping her run with today’s episode. Braun made her daytime debut in 2001, taking over the role of Carly Corinthos on “General Hospital.” She returned to “GH” in 2017 when she took on the newly created role of Kim Nero. Departing in 2019, Braun won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal in 2020. 22. Melissa Fumero, Randall Park, Blockbuster, #Blockbuster, Netflix

Failing to ever crack Netflix’s coveted Top 10 list since its premiere in early November, the streaming service has decided not to pursue a second season of “Blockbuster,” a scripted take on the working life of employees operating the last Blockbuster Video in America. The series starred Randall Park (“Fresh Off the Boat”) and Melissa Fumero (“One Life to Live,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”).

According to a logline for the series, “Timmy Yoon (Park) is an analog dreamer living in a 5G world. And after learning he is operating the last Blockbuster Video in America, Timmy and his staff, including his long-time crush, Eliza (Fumero), fight to stay relevant. The only way to succeed is to remind their community that they provide something big corporations can’t: human connection.”

“Blockbuster” landing on Netflix came with a bit of irony as the streamer played a vital role in the demise of the once iconic brand when it built its customer base by mailing DVDs directly to members, cutting out the need for visiting the local video store.

Produced by Universal Television, the 10-episode series was co-created by Vanessa Ramos who also served as executive producer and showrunner. Olga Merediz, Tyler Alvarez, Madeleine Arthur, JB Smoove and Kamaia Fairburn also star.
