Next Thursday, January 30th is the first day of February Sweeps. The first day is always the last Thursday in the month prior.

A little bit about Sweeps! Sweeps in 2025 are kind of interesting. On one hand they no longer exist. On the other, everything happens as it always has. So, how is that possible? Yes, sure, often two very different things can be true. But, in this case these two ideas seem to work at odds to each other.
How they no longer exist. As of about 4 years back, the A.C. Nielsen Co. stopped doing things during the 4 Sweeps period like they used to. So, from that perspective, their primary reason for existing is gone.  But, the People Meters have replaced the old methodology.
How things are the same. All the soaps continue to act as if the 4 periods continue to exist. They time their stories around the Sweeps. Big reveals are held for Sweeps periods. Climaxes to stories are timed for them. Denouements are scheduled for the second half of the months.

Are you looking forward to February Sweeps?!!! What do you expect will happen on your show?

A blog about Sweeps specifically & the Nielsen ratings more generally
