Members DramatistDreamer
Wow, thanks for posting this. I'm actually listening to Joan Hooley (that was the name of the actress) in an interview she did with the BBC that was linked to that article. As someone of Caribbean heritage myself, this makes me feel pretty proud for some reason.
Members DRW50
I couldn't get it to work on my computer so I'm glad you did. I'm glad she's still around to see an age when that type of bigotry is treated with disdain (at least in the UK).

Members DRW50
Thanks. Sad to think something that heavily tamed would cause uproar. I guess that's why Corrie scuppered their plans for an IR story in the late '60s.
Members DramatistDreamer
I found what looks to be the BBC podcast interview posted on You Tube, from what I can tell, it sounds the same interview as the one I heard on the BBC's site. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIWN2HxdI2E&ab_channel=Race&EthnicityArchive From what she described, the originally written scene was supposed to be a lot more intimate, with her half-dressed in her room (in a slip) when the kiss takes place, but it appears that it was the network got flustered by it and wanted to eliminate the whole thing but when word got out that the scene was being censored out, there was a lot of press, which I think pressured the network to find some 'middle ground', hence the chaste kiss as some sort of compromise. I guess then, the network just wanted to get rid of the character after that. Very sad. I'd like to see if I can find any clips of the teleplay You In Your Small Corner. I'd actually love to see the entire play. Wow, someone must've posted this last night! Please register in order to view this content
