Members wingwalker
Haven't posted any thoughts in a while. ABC Wednesdays, while I wouldn't be alarmed just yet, if I was ABC I'd start to be concerned about their Wednesday lineup. If they aren't careful, Modern Family could end up being an island all by itself like what Grey's was for years. Modern Family dipping under 10 million and 4.0 demo already is not good. Most will say it's American Idol (which may play a tiny part), but I don't think that's it. Modern Family did fine against Idol last year. I think it's 1 of 2 things (or a combination of both), either quality has dropped or having a poor lead in. I won't focus on quality cause that subjective and something the showrunners will need to address if need be, but mostly the Wednesday lineup. ABC needs to start finding some more hit comedies, MF can't carry the lineup alone and these ratings show proof. The Middle hasn't really grown at all over the years, The Neighbors is just plain bad, and Suburgatory is doing mediocre out of MF. One thing that will benefit MF, is this fall it begins airing in syndication. Sitcoms usually benefit (multi-cams more than Single Cams) from it and see ratings bumps, I suspect MF eventually will. ABC needs to find another hit in the next year or two, to take advantage when that happens. Also, I know this doesn't get much play, but Chicago Fire for NBC is the little show that could. Most wrote it off as an old fashioned procedural, but that's exactly why it's working. It feels very much like a 90s NBC drama and that's a GOOD thing. It's just about the only NBC show who's ratings haven't fallen off a cliff when The Voice went on break. It's grown out of it's lead in every week, beat Nashville several times and has further weakened CSI. NBC should renew it and keep it here to continue to build. In a 2-3 years, NBC could be #1 in this timeslot. Especially if NBC can find another good procedural to pair it with at 9 (SVU is getting long in the tooth). Members wingwalker
Look at that, Chicago Fire tying CSI in the demos. Like I said before, Chicago Fire is an unsung hero for NBC. Not saying NBC needs to become CBS, but a few more quality procedurals like that could help out NBC a lot and provide stability.
Administrator Toups Posted February 18, 2013 Author Administrator Share Posted February 18, 2013 To be fair to CSI, it didn't air after a new episode of Criminal Minds.
