I mean...some of my favorite episodes of the show were Noxon. And while I loved Season 6's darkness, that was when I was watching it live/VHS-recorded as an author who loves horror/fantasy. I don't think (outside of reactions) I have sat down to watch it since, but I almost always had to defend that season from what I remember because I loved the darkness and them dealing with being adults.
I only saw Season 7 once (since it was a bday dvd gift from my then-Russian boyfriend who know of my love of BUFFY and literally bought it while I was around without me even finding out) and I remember liking it then, BUT agree that it was a little too many elements. So much so that some plot threads got lost. In hindsight...I feel the season started well enough, but that middle was a mess and the last minute attempt to add Nathan Fillion as a henchman took away from some of the First's power which lied in manipulation over total brute force. That's what made AMENDS, the X-mas episode that introduced it, sure a fascinating episode. At least for me. How does one truly defeat ancient evil?
