When Tony returned to Salem in 1993, JER rewrote history with one line uttered by Tony. He said that he and Stefano lost out on years together because "that crazy woman" made up the lie that Tony was not Stefano's son. And nothing else was ever said about it. So I think Tony is Stefano's son now . . . at least until the next writer (maybe Hogan) comes along. It really makes more sense for Tony to be Stefano's son now, but it sure makes the Tony/Renee romance so distasteful. :-)

By the way, several viewers were confused and a little pissed that Tony referred to "that crazy woman." He was referring to his mother, Daphne. The woman was manipulative, yes, but she wasn't crazy. And he never got to say goodbye to her because Andre took his place at her "funeral" on Stefano's island. What he said about her was totally out of character for Tony and totally in character for JER.
