OUTSTANDING YOUNGER FEMALE CHARACTERWINNER: LIZZIE SPAULDING (MARCY RYLAN)

    Episode 028

Lizzie’s reflection stared back at her almost mockingly as she just stood there. For the first time in a very long while, the spoiler Spaulding heiress felt completely helpless and alone.

She closed her eyes, took a deep troubled breath and put her other earring in as her cell phone began to ring on her bed.

“Shayne.” She said without any emotion, “Hello.”

“Liz?” His sturdy voice spoke back, “Lizzie is that you?”

    “Uh-huh…yeah Shayne, it’s me.”

    “You holding up okay?”

She shook her head no but answered something completely different, “Of course…best as can be expected, right?” Her eyes closed quickly and tightly. “Are…um, you guys…are you all going to be at the service?”

“Of course. We wouldn’t be anywhere else.” Shayne replied, “Listen why don’t Marina, Tammy and I come over after school today…”

Lizzie had stopped even listening after his first two words and stared out the window, “Shayne I need to go, I’ll call you later.” She tossed her phone to the foot of the bed, tears streamed down her face, she trembled, sobbed and cursed aloud, “Damnit!”

In the doorway a small yet powerful voice spoke, “Daddy’s going to wash your mouth out if he hears you.”

“James!” Lizzie answered completely caught off guard, “What are you up to buddy? Huh?” She asked as she wiped her face, “Come over here and sit down next to me.”

“Why did you say that bad word?” The toddler asked, “Is it because you’re upset like Mommy too?”

Lizzie shook her head, “Yeah.” She wrapped her arms around her little brother, “Did you see Mommy this morning?”

“No. Lizzie, mommy wouldn’t answer the door.”

“She probably slept with Nana.” Lizzie tried to explain, “You see Mommy hasn’t been feeling good lately and you know when we feel bad how we just want Mom, it’s like that with Nana.”

James shook his head, “But why is Aunt Alex crying?” He paused tears formed in Lizzie’s eyes, “Is it because Daddy’s not home yet?”

Suddenly Lizzie the wind was knocked out of her and she clutched her stomach. Through her own tears now she pulled James close to her. In a hushed whisper she spoke, “Yeah baby, Daddy not being home has a lot to do with it.”

“Well how much longer till he gets here? I want the crying to stop.”

Lizzie picked James up and sat him on her lap. She lightly stroked back his hair on his forehead, much like Phillip used to do. “The things is James…” she spoke softly through tears, “Daddy’s not coming home.”

    “Ever?”

“Ever.” She answered, “You remember when your dog died last year?” James shook his head, “Yeah? Well you know then Lou went to dog heaven,” she wiped her face and asked for guidance under her breath, “the same thing has happened with Dad. But he’s not in dog heaven…he’s in people heaven.”

“What’s the difference?” James asked with the an emotionless face, “Lizzie??”

“Well…” she searched for the right words, “in dog heaven the dogs get to run around, eat treats and bark whenever they want, they just enjoy life. But you see in people heaven they have jobs. And do you know what Daddy’s job is?”

    James shook his head.

“Daddy has an exciting new job and it’s very important. You know you could almost think of him as a superhero of sorts.”

    “Really?” James asked, “Like Superman?”

“Kind of yeah. Daddy’s in Heaven and he’s like our own personal superhero angel.” Lizzie’s eyes filled, “And when you start missing him then you just look up and talk, because he’s with us, always.”

James reached up and wiped Lizzie’s cheek, “Like a guardian angel?”

She kissed his hand, “Exactly. Exactly.”

OUTSTANDING LEADING MALE CHARACTERWINNER: ROBERT NEWMAN (JOSH LEWIS)

    Episode 023

Marah returns home, where she sees Josh sitting on the sofa waiting for her. She walks over and hugs him.

“Marah, you don’t have any bags. Aren’t you ready to move back into the house yet?”

“No I’m not ready yet,” Marah responds.

“When are you going to be ready? Listen, I know that Tony’s death was hard on you. I understand that. But your mother did not mean for him to die. She knew home much you loved him. You need to find it in your heart to forgive her so that we can all move on with our lives just like Danny is trying to do,” Josh reasons.

With this, Marah moves to the defensive.

“Dad, Danny is not moving forward. He is stuck in a rut and can’t get out of it. He feels guilty and angry because mom killed his cousin.”

Reva walks to the stop of the stairs and eavesdrops on the conversation.

“Marah, didn’t Danny tell you? He’s not pressing charges against your Aunt Roxie for Tony’s death.”

“What?!” Marah exclaims. “So mom walks away clean as a whistle yet again right? She’s a regular Houdini.”

“Marah, your mom didn’t kill Tony…”

“God Dad, open your eyes! When are you going to see mom for what she truly is?”

At this, Reva walks down the stairs and asks, “What do you think I truly am Marah?”

“Reva you should go back upstairs.” Josh warned, “Marah and I are going to have a little talk. She needs to learn some respect when she is in this house.”

    “No daddy, she asked.”

“What do I think you are mom? Well, I think Aunt Roxie summed it all up. You’re a slut, a whore that has led us all along for all these years. Unfortunately, dad has suffered the worst under you little spell. Even now, he loves you so much. You are so stuck in that fountain that you couldn’t handle being a mother. Did you ever have a child that you actually raised yourself? Dylan? Me? Shayne? Jonathan? Nope, that’s all of us. Or is it? With you, there’s really no telling what other children you have hiding in the woodwork. Whenever Reva Shayne gets too domestic, she rides off in search of the next drama. You bring chaos wherever you go. This is just the last straw. God knows just how many people have fallen at the altar of Reva: Annie, Richard, Sonni, Olivia… Tony was just your latest victim!”

    “Marah enough!” Josh warns.

“No Joshua, let her vent,” Reva says.

“Well, I’m so glad I have your permission,” Marah cracks. “Dad, you are no better than she is. You play the victim whenever mother turns another trick, yet you keep yearning for it. You’re like some masochist and this twisted relationship with mom is just a long mutilation. But you don’t do anything but stand there and take it. Why? Are you so far up her dress that you can’t see straight? That makes you just as bad a parent as she is!”

Reva’s temper grows as Marah berates Josh. At the last comment she puts her hands on Marah’s shoulders and slaps her daughter.

“Listen Marah,” Reva sobs. “I know that you are grieving for Tony and I am so sorry that you have to go through that. And I know that in some small way that I am responsible for that. But I never wanted this. I know that I have made more than my fair share of mistakes over the years, but your dad does not deserve this. He has cared for you and loved you even when I was not there for you. So yell and scream or whatever you have to do to settle your anger at me, but I will not allow your father to be dragged into your rant!”

Marah stands still, stunned that Reva would slap her. As she begins to cry, Reva interjects.

“Oh don’t cry Marah. You only got what you asked for.”

Marah’s anger rises to the breaking point. Marah screams, “Go to Hell,” and storms out of the room.

    OUTSTANDING STORYLINE:REVA'S STALKER & TONY'S MURDER

Reva Shayne Lewis took matters into her own hands when her brother-in-law requested her assistance in helping him die. Reva granted Richard’s wishes and he died, causing an enormous between her sister Cassie, a jail sentence and much later an unidentifiable stalker, this is when “THE GUIDING LIGHT” began.

Reva used her position as a talk show host for WSPR to go on air in an attempt to air out her stalker, but he/she had other plans! Before the live “Reva Shayne” show could begin reformed mobster, Tony Santos found a suspicious bag and tossed it down a stairwell just as it exploded. Shaken up by what had just happened, Josh insisted that Tony take Marah and Shayne away from the studio and back their house. The Lewis children went as instructed even though Marah suspected that Tony could be the stalker after she had a stolen Lewis family picture in the lighthouse where he was living. Meanwhile, a mystery woman arrived at Olivia’s Bar where she and Edmund shared their mutual disdain for Reva. During the show Reva and Cassie’s pleaded for the stalker to come clean and confront Reva, instead they went after her children. The stalker called Marah and Shayne used the opportunity to sneak out of the house. At the Beacon, Shayne snuck in the back way in hopes of not being seen where he was attacked just moments after the stalker called WSPR!

Frank, Harley and the entire Springfield Police Department worked at tracing both the WSPR and Marah’s call. They concluded finally that it came from a phone at the Beacon. Cassie ordered that phone logs and security DVDs be pulled and given to the police, meanwhile at the same time Tammy Winslow has returned from the station and finds her cousin Shayne bleeding by the payphone. While viewing the DVDs Frank and Harley see Edmund leaving the bar within seconds of the first phone call to Marah, then a person dressed in a trench coat at the payphone, suddenly turning and seeing Shayne. As he walked off Frank and Harley witness the mysterious figure attacking Shayne!

Following the WSPR live show, Holly Reade who up until this point had been a suspect is cleared because she was at the station when the call came in producing the episode thanks her one-time lover and former son-in-law, Ross Marler for not doubting her innocence. The two embrace in a tender hug that is witnessed by Holly’s daughter and Ross’ ex-wife and current love Blake!

After they gathered enough evidence, Harley and Frank arrested Edmund and charged him as Reva’s stalker. As Josh and Reva raced to Cedars to see how Shayne was doing, Reva vowed that they had to protect their children!”

Even though Edmund had a clear-cut agenda and reason for wishing harm upon Reva he continued to insist that he was innocent of the crime. Luckily for Edmund he had a powerful friend with even more powerful connections: Alexandra Spaulding. She called in a favor from Bay City and Cass Winthrop arrived to assist Edmund with his case. Edmund was denied bail and formally charged, as Reva’s eldest son got on a plane to Springfield from Minnesota. Reva, Josh and Cassie breathed a sigh of relief having thought the stalker was caught, but that all soon changed. Reva discovered in Shayne’s hospital room a vase of black roses with the message, “Dial S for Slut…They’ve got the wrong person.” As Reva and Josh worry that everything is not okay, the mystery person dressed in a trench coat makes a phone call from a payphone inside Cedars to Dr. Mel Bauer. The stalker tells Mel, “You’re on my list…bitch!”

Reva decided to do Edmund a favor and demands that Frank release him, against his wishes, but Reva persists. But before Edmund leaves, he comes face-to-face with her and she issues him a very stern, to the point warning about coming after or near her children. Reva reveals that through Alexandra’s help Edmund now has a job awaiting him in San Cristobel. Reva warns him about going near Marissa or Jonathan. Reva says she’ll be in contact with Alonzo and that she can be far more dangerous than he ever was!

With Dylan Lewis’ arrival in Springfield he was brought up to speed on what is going on with his mother. Reva and Josh revealed to Dylan that they want him to take Marah and Shayne away from Springfield and to Minnesota. Dylan agrees, as Cassie reveals to Tammy that she will also be leaving Springfield and going with Dylan. Josh returns home with Shayne to find Billy, Dylan, Cassie, Tammy and Reva awaiting their return. Shortly after Marah and Tony arrive. Reva announces that Edmund was not the person that they were looking for and that her stalker is still out there somewhere and while she appreciates Tony’s help in protecting Marah and Shayne they have decided it would be in the best interest of the children if they left Springfield with Dylan and Billy. Shayne inquires as to where they are going and Josh explains that they will go to Minnesota until the stalker is caught once and for all. Marah is very angry that her mother would just send her away and despite trying to calm her down, she runs out of the house and speeds away. Devastated that she is putting her family through this Reva goes off and breaks down. Shayne goes after her and assures her that everything will be fine and that Marah will come around and see that leaving Springfield right now is for the best. Marah goes to the lighthouse and gets on the computer where she begins looking for plane tickets to Paris. She thinks that this is another ploy her father is using to keep Marah and Tony away from one another, distraught over everything that is going Marah begins to breakdown and realizes that if she wants to protect herself from not only the stalker but Josh and Reva and lead a normal life with Tony then she is going to have to do it her own way, with her own set of rules. She grabs a duffle bag from the closet and begins packing what clothes she has left at the lighthouse and that is when she comes across an envelope with Tony’s name on it. She opens the envelope and out falls pictures, newspaper clippings from the 80s through the present day, one that sticks out in her mind the most is the photograph of Reva and Josh at the country club fountain. The picture was clipped from the society page and the caption reads, “Tulsa bad girl Reva Shayne Lewis baptizes herself the slut of Springfield.” Marah begins to freak out and that is when Tony arrives, which sends her reeling. She asks where he got this information and he is without answers. Marah demands answers and he asks what has her so upset and that is when Marah shows him the note that was left for her at the nurse’s station at Cedars, “The water is warm. Make your mother, the slut proud before it’s too late.” Tony not understanding the connection is confused, Marah tells him that he knew about the Slut of Springfield incident and he sent that letter. Marah becomes uncontrollably angry with him and begin fighting with him. Saying that he’s had access to Reva all this time, he made the calls, broke into the house and probably paid someone to make those other phone calls during the live television show. Marah questions how much Tony had to pay to have Shayne beaten up and put in the hospital. Tony tried to calm Marah down and assure her he is not responsible for any of this, but she will not have any of it and declares that he should leave her alone, she says that he should never come anywhere near her ever again and storms out of the lighthouse. Tony goes after her in an effort to calm her down but Marah, gets ahead of herself and trips down the stairs, bruising herself up, allowing Tony to finally get to her. Scared that he is going to do something to hurt her, Marah tries to get away but is unsuccessful and Tony assures her that he has never seen those articles and knows nothing about the note she received. He tells her he loves her very much and only wants to keep her safe. Reva receives another threatening phone call, clearly a woman’s voice talking about Dylan’s return to Springfield. Unable to trace the call, Frank offers up that Reva should get the children out of Springfield immediately. Josh then calls Marah and reveals another call was made. She tells him she’ll be home soon. Marah tells Tony that Reva received another call and says that she is sorry for doubting him. Marah becomes shaken and unsure of what to do or even say, so she gets up and leaves Tony, without saying another word. Tony is devastated at how the two of them left things. The plane carrying Marah, Tammy and Shayne take off without a problem leaving Reva to wonder what her next move is going to be. Cassie arrives at Reva's and inquires on the kids in Minnesota. Reva tells Cassie that Billy just called and they are settling in all right. Reva tells her that Bridget has taken the girls shopping. Cassie says that they have got to figure a way to lure out Reva's stalker and she thinks she knows exactly how to do it!

Rick asks what she is doing and Mindy says that when Mel wakes up from her coma, she'll want Rick...he has to decide where he wants to be when that happens, by her bedside or slumped over some bar drunk. Rick doesn't say anything and Mindy says that she doesn't want Rick to go down the same path Ed went down...she tells him to make his choice, kisses his cheek and leaves. Rick is left to wonder if he should take the drink or not. Mindy receives a telephone call from her secretary in Paris. She copies the number down and hangs up. Mindy dials the number and Michelle Bauer Santos answers. Rick arrives back at the hospital and goes to see Mel. He tells Mel that he needs her to come back to him, now more than ever because he almost done something that would have sent their lives into a downward spiral...Rick begin to tear up and begs her to come back to him. Rick explains that someone hit her with a car and the doctors put her into a drug related coma so that her body could heal, which apparently it has done. Mel places her hand over her stomach and says she saw the woman who hit her...as Harley arrives with a picture of Roxie Shayne.

He immediately calls Frank in and shows the note to Reva! The ball seems to be going off successfully so far. Frank however tells Josh that he is keeping Cassie and Reva secluded away so they can make their grand entrance together, in hopes of luring Reva's stalker out. Josh says that is if the stalker is even really here...as Frank goes to check on the women, Josh grabs Tony and pulls him aside. Before Frank arrives, Cassie and Reva are alone. Cassie reassures her sister that everything is going to be all right and that nothing bad is going to happen. Just then a knock is heard and an usher from the party delivers a note to Cassie, addressed to Reva. Reva is shaken by the note and feels uneasy about going through with the ball, but Cassie convinces her that it has to be done, just as Frank arrives. Cassie shows Frank the note and he says that most likely Reva's stalker is here, just as Harley enters with news about Rick's note...both are shocked to learn they are the same and Harley races off to Cedars, questioning where Gus is at. Reva suddenly realizes that is the same day that she withdrew Richard’s life support as Roxie makes a stunning claim: “She killed him. That slut, she was jealous of what Johnny and I had…she murdered him and got away with it.” Roxanne continues to say that Johnny was in perfect health until Reva came in and pulled his life support. Rick is stunned and says that he has to talk to Frank… Frank leaves Roxie alone in the interrogation room and Rick reveals to him that Roxie’s story does not add up…that Johnny isn’t dead, he never had cancer…Rick says that he does still live in Tulsa and that he did marry Roxie…but the rest is all made up. Frank orders a deputy to put the call into the sanitarium and then goes back into question Roxie. In the interrogation room Roxanne explains no matter what she did growing up that Reva always had the attention of her mother Sarah and men. Roxie says that Reva knew how much she loved Johnny and Reva took him away from her. Frank questions why Roxanne would go after Mel and Roxanne explains that after she lost Johnny she realized the only other man she would love was her second love, Rick Bauer and she never thought Mel deserved to be with him. Frank leaves Roxanne and encourages Reva not to see her sister and makes a few phone calls. He soon learns that Roxanne escaped her sanitarium home, leaving Tulsa and in fact a very much alive Johnny back in Tulsa. Reva says she is glad that this is over and she does not want to press charges against Roxanne. Frank agrees, but says that it will be up to Doris Wolfe if charges are pressed against Roxanne for her role in Tony’s death. Frank explains that Roxie will be transported back to Tulsa, after the holiday. Rick returns to the hospital, where Mel is being released...he sets her down and tells her that Frank knows who was responsible for stalking her. Rick tells his wife about his past with Roxie Bauer and how his cousin is now married to her and how she came to get revenge on Reva and her...Mel is devastated and asks Rick where she is now. Rick tells her that Roxie is going back to Oklahoma, Rick says that he's just glad that she didn't do anymore damage than she did and takes Mel in his arms, as Mel has a flashback to learning she was pregnant and Lillian revealing that she miscarried the baby. Reva and Josh arrive home to find Cassie, Billy, Marah, Shayne and Tammy waiting on them. Marah says she knows that something is going on, because Billy wouldn't let her read the paper or watch TV, Marah demands to know what happened: Reva breaks the news to Marah and everyone that her stalker was in fact, their aunt Roxie...Reva's sister. Cassie says that her and Reva hosted a benefit in Richard's memory and Roxie showed up. Reva then tells Marah that Tony...protected her in more ways than she ever imagined. Reva tells Marah that Roxie shot at her and Tony took the bullet and died. Marah is devastated and storms off...as Shayne rushes after her. Shayne stops Marah before she drives off, he grabs her and she breaks down in his arms. Marah says this isn't fair, that she and Tony fought before she left for Minnesota. Shayne tells her that no one, but Roxie is to blame for Tony's death. Marah says she refuses to believe that, she says that Reva brought this upon herself...Marah says that she blames Reva for this...and she'll find it very hard to forgive her. Shayne holds Marah as she mourns Tony.

The story at this point wraps and begins to tell other stories. Rick and Mel’s marriage struggles as she keeps the pregnancy from him. Reva, Josh and Cassie worked to put their family back together. Devastated over Tony’s death Marah pushed her family away and blamed Reva for his murder!

Hope Bauer sat with her hands wrapped tightly around a mug of coffee.

“Good morning.” Michelle broke the calm silence. “Do you need a refill?”

“No, thank you. How are you feeling?” She replied.

“This little one kept me up all night long kicking.” The women left. “I passed Uncle Mike in the hallway is he leaving this morning?”

“Unfortunately yes. Your father tried to convince him to stay longer and Lord knows that I did as well. He’s only been here a week and barely had any time to visit with Alan-Michael.”

“No don’t you start harping on that girl about your woes.” Mike Bauer announced. “I spent plenty of time here and I’m not the one who needs the quality time with Alan-Michael.”

“I know.” Hope sat her mug down. “Would you just at least reconsider and let me take you to the airport?”

“I’ve already called the taxi.” Mike told her. “You have more important things to do then take care of me. You’ve been doing it long enough and we had an agreement Hope.”

“Daddy…” Hope attempted to reason but was interrupted by Ed.

“He’ll be fine. It’s been over three years since his heart attack Hope.”

“Uncle Ed, not just six months ago you were telling me how he needs to eat healthier and exercise more. Why the sudden change?”

“Hope…” Mike led her by the arm to the corner of the kitchen. “I’m fine, healthier than I’ve ever been in years. You’ve put your life on hold for me far to long.”

    “Daddy…”

“Don’t you daddy me little girl. I appreciate everything you’ve done, everything. But playing nursemaid, that’s over. You have a lot of catching up to do and you’ve put off this meeting with Charles Grant one to many times.”

    “I worry about you.”

“And that worry does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. I’ll be fine.” He took her in his arms and kissed her cheek. “You have quite a few opportunities here in Springfield, don’t waste them on me.”

“Okay. But you’ll call me once a day and remember to take your pills.” She kissed his cheek. “Scoot…go on get out of here before I change my mind. I love you daddy.”

“I love you too.” Mike told her. “Michelle you take care of those babies. You hear me?”

“You know I will Uncle Mike.” She replied from across the kitchen. “Have a good flight.”

“I don’t want you to be a stranger Mike.” Ed told him once outside. “You need to come home every once in a great while you know.”

Mike shook his head. “Well with Hope here I don’t see how I can stay away. I was gone for far to long and I’ll try not to let it happen again.” The men stood silent for a moment and Mike interjected. “Thanksgiving.”

    “I’m sorry?”

“I’ll come in for Thanksgiving and stay right up to New Year’s Day. We could have a dinner like momma used to cook, remember those?”

“Yeah.” Ed kicked the gravel with his foot.

“I always know hen you’re thinking about something so out with it.”

    “It’s Holly…”

“She still hasn’t come around to you yet?”

Ed shook his head no. “And I don’t think she will anytime soon. Something’s changed with her Mike. She was so zoned out the other night on those railroad tracks and I honestly believe if I hadn’t been there she would have gone through with whatever she was doing.”

“Something has changed for her, Roger’s dead and whether you or I like it he had this control, this mesmerizing power over her. Give her time brother, she’ll come around soon enough.”

The taxi pulled up and the two men loaded Mike’s bags into the trunk. “You’ll call when you land?”

“Of course.” Mike hugged Ed and opened the backdoor of the cab. “Speaking of Roger, have you read his letter yet?”

    Ed shook his head, “No.”

    “How come?”

“I don’t know, maybe I’m afraid of what he has to say.”

“He’s dead Ed, remember that, okay. He can’t hurt you anymore.” Mike told him, “Springfield International. Take brother.”

“Tammy. Shayne.” The English teacher announced. “Principal Atwood has requested to see you a few minutes before class ended, why don’t you head down that way.”

Tammy cut her eyes across the room at her cousin. “Is something the matter?”

“I’m not sure what exactly he’s wanting Ms. Winslow.” She handed them a hall pass.

“So she doesn’t have any ideas…what about you?” Shayne asked as they headed down the deserted hallway. “Maybe he has some news about D.C.?”

“You think?” Tammy squinted her eyebrows. “I hope not, not yet anyway. That would mean I have to tell my mother and she’s going to flip out!”

“Are you seriously trying to upstage me?” Shayne laughed. “I’m the only one who is allowed to drop the unforeseen bombshell that will destroy lives this summer. God Tammy, you always try to make things about you.”

“Shut up!” Tammy gave him a nudge. “You don’t think that has anything to do with you…” she looked around, “you know…”

“Being gay?” Shayne whispered. “I really don’t know why it would. It isn’t like I’ve been secretly sneaking peeks at the baseball team.”

“Oh shut up!” Tammy knocked and went on in. “Principal Atwood we were told you wanted to see us?”

“I did in fact. Please both of you sit down.” He offered them a chair, “As you very well know the prom is at the end of the week and that is only to be followed by graduation.” Both of them smiled. “Two weeks left of your high school education how does that feel?”

“Like a weight being lifted off my shoulders.” Shayne answered. “Does this meeting have to do with our college applications?”

“In a way yes. The staff and I have been tabulating and reviewing academic records for all the students in the senior class and I am very pleased to say we’ve come to a academic decision.”

“In…I don’t know, teenage terms.” Tammy replied.

“Congratulations to you both, Tammy your GPA has qualified you as the Salutatorian of the senior class.”

“Oh my God!” Tammy smiled, “Are you sure?”

“Very sure. And congratulations to you Mr. Lewis you’ve qualified to serve as the Valedictorian.”

“You’re sure?” Shayne questioned. “Positive because it wouldn’t be nice to you know yank our chains here.”

The principal laughed under his breath. “We’re very sure. The faculty and I spent many hours combing through your grades since your freshmen year, it was very close.”

Tammy reached out for Shayne’s hand and squeezed it. “You both deserve this, very much. Congratulations again.”

“Thanks.” Tammy replied, “Was there something else you needed?”

“Prom is right around the corner have the two of you purchased your tickets yet?”

They both shook their heads. “No.” Shayne replied. “Actually I’m not sure if I’ll even be going.”

“I can’t believe your dad and Buzz caught you with Ben at the Bauer cabin.” Lizzie laughed.

“Thanks Liz. Go ahead and laugh it up now just remember that karma has a way of paying people back.”

“Right. Listen Shayne and I were talking this morning on the way back from campus and he told me you had a birthday. Both of us were just devastated that we missed your birthday.”

“Not completely your fault. Mother nature played a big part in the ordeal.”

“Still none the less, we missed your birthday and I for one feel terrible.” Lizzie looked in her bag for something. “Why don’t you come with Tammy and me tomorrow night downtown, we have a final dress fitting.”

“You think Shayne will go for that. Dress fittings and all?”

“He can meet us at the restaurant or something. Just not Company and not Towers, I don’t ever want to ride an elevator there again.”

    “Bad night huh?”

“You have no idea.” Lizzie laughed. “Is Ben excited about prom?”

“As much as a guy can be. I think he’s just hoping that my dad and grandpa don’t chaperone if you get my drift.” They laughed. “What about you? Braxton got his tux and everything?”

Lizzie shook his head. “Atwood’s won’t let him go, he’s to old.”

“Sucks.” Marina replied. “So what are you going to do? Shayne doesn’t have a date yet.”

“Oh I have a date.” She leaned in. “Austin Hollingsworth.”

“Really?” Marin teased. “Well that’s exciting.”

“I guess so. I just hope that he doesn’t get the wrong idea about the whole night.”

“What was that back there?” Tammy asked as they headed to their next class.

“Um…I’m not sure what you mean.”

“Oh I think you do Shayne, I’m not your sister so how about not playing games with me. Principal Atwood mentioned prom and you said you weren’t sure you were going.”

“I just don’t know if I want to go. Lizzie will be there with some guy, Marina will be with Ben and I am certain that you have a long line of potential date candidates.”

“Hardly, the best offer so far has been from that guy Austin Hollingsworth or something like that, the football jock.”

“He’s cute.” Shayne whispered. “Go with him.”

Tammy rolled her eyes. “If you’re not going then I am for sure not going to go.”

He stopped mid-step. “We are not going to play that game Tammy Nicole.” Shayne lectured. “I didn’t come out to you so that you would have built up sympathy for me and put your own life on hold.”

“And you honestly think that is what I am doing?”

“It seems like it is. So how about you convince me it’s not.”

Tammy led Shayne over to bench in the hallway. “Since Richard died you’ve become my one person to lean on. No matter what ugly words our mother’s hurled at one another you and I stood strong. Shayne you are so much more than just a cousin, you are my best friend. I want to spend as much time together with you before…”

    “Before you leave?”

“Let’s not fight about that on top of this. One fight at a time boy!” Tammy lightly punched him in the arm. “So…”

    “So?”

“Will you by my prom date cuz?”

Shayne shook his head and rolled his eyes. “Oh! Yes…I’ll be your prom date.”

“Bill how are you?” Ross sat down in a booth at the back of Company. “I was surprised to see you on my schedule.”

“Sorry about that, it was just a last minute decision.” Bill explained. “How’s Holly and Blake?”

“They’re both doing as well as can be expected.”

“I just want to apologize again for Dad’s actions. It was completely out of line and uncalled for. Would you please pass that along to them?”

Ross shook his head. “Of course. So what’s on your mind?”

“I’m sure Ed’s told you about the situation with Michelle and Danny.” Ross shook his head again. “And Ross I know that you and Ed have been friends for a very long and I respect that so if you don’t want to take this case I’ll understand.”

“Bill you need to back up and tell me what case we’re talking about here.”

“Once Michelle delivers the baby there’s going to be a DNA test done if the baby is mine then I want to immediately sue Michelle for full custody.”

“Bill…” Ross spoke slowly. “Do you really think that is going to be the best idea? I mean have you thought this through completely, rationally. Bill you would be taking a newborn baby from his mother and need I remind you of who his mother is. One of your oldest and dearest friends.”

“I know who Michelle is Ross, trust me. But she is also the woman who lied to both Danny and I, left town when she found out she was pregnant and kept that from the both of us. Had my mother not found out she was having a baby she might not have ever told me.”

“I know how you feel Bill but I don’t think suing Michelle is going to solve any of your problems. I would strongly advice against it.”

“Okay. Ross I respect you and your loyalty to Michelle and Ed. But this is something that I feel strongly about and if you won’t help me then at least point me in the direction of someone who will.”

“So there won’t be any talking you out of this?”

    “Afraid not.”

Ross reached in his briefcase and then scribbled down a name. “Tell her I referred you and I’m sure she’ll be more than glad to help you.”

At Cedars, both Olivia Spencer-Spaulding and Beth Spaulding are waking from their slumber. Lillian has made a vigil at Beth’s bedside, her head resting on a small portion of the free bed she feels Beth move her leg.

“Beth?” Lillian manages to speak half asleep. “Oh Beth!” She exclaims. “You gave me quite a scare.” She softly wiped her daughter’s forehead.

With her eyes closed Beth spoke in a broken voice. “What happened?”

“You don’t remember?” Lillian kissed Beth’s hand. “You had a car accident during the rainstorm. Someone found you…”

    “Is Phillip here?”

    And Now "The Guiding Light"

Josh and Billy are at the Lewis Construction offices going over their Cedars proposal. Both are deep in thought having worked on this proposal for months. There was just no way that the hospital could possibly give a job of this magnitude to Spaulding Enterprises.

    “What?” Josh questioned.

“I didn’t say anything.” Billy responded.

“I’m aware of that, but you have that look on you face.”

    “What look?”

“Like you forgot to do something important and you're thinking of a way to not tell your little brother.” Wanda said as she passed through the office. “Bill said he needs to talk to you when you get a free minute.”

Billy rolled his eyes as Wanda went back to her desk. “She’s right though.” Josh told him. “Do you think there’s a problem with the presentation?”

“Not one that we can fix this late in the game. Besides what do we really have to worry about?
Alan-Michael is the point man for this project and we both know how long he’s been out of commission. We’re fine.”

“I guess you’re right.” Josh reached for his umbrella.

    “Where you headed off to?”

“The airport,” Josh told him, “Reva…my missing in action wife has decided to return home for what is going to be a week of pictures and tears.”

    “Shayne excited about the prom?”

“I think it’s more like he’s ready for it to be over. He’s not like you and I were back in our day, he’s much more grounded, mature.”

“That’s because you raised a fine boy.”

“Speaking of which.” Josh gestured towards the door. “Come on in Bill.”

“Uncle Josh. Dad, do you have a free minute? There’s something I need to run by you.”

“Sure. Sure, come on in.” Billy moved some papers from one of the chairs. “Josh you give Reva my love all right?”

“I will. See you guys tomorrow.”

The men said there farewells and Bill took a seat. Bill took the time to give his father a lecture about proper funeral etiquette: you do not bring a gun and shot the coffin of the deceased, even if they did deserve it.

“Something tells me there’s another reason you’re here.” Billy informed his son. “What’s on your mind boy?”

“Someone’s here. Let me call you back. Okay, bye.” Derek hung up the phone and opened the door to find Shayne standing there.

“It’s about time.” Shayne told him. “I was just about to leave you a note. Can I come in?”

“Yeah, of course. So your text message said that you had some exciting news about something or another.”

“Guess who you are looking at?” Shayne struck a model pose for a split second and then burst into laughter.

“I don’t know, a bad Vanna White impression, I’m guessing.”

“Um no…” he replied in a sad voice, “the Valedictorian of the Springfield High School graduating class of 2007!”

“That’s awesome, congratulations.” Derek went into to kiss Shayne but he quickly pulled away turning the joyous moment into something opposite.

    “What’s wrong?”

“What do you mean?” Shayne asked.

“Don’t play the question-answer game with me. You know what I mean, I just tried to kiss you and you pulled away. And it’s not the first time it’s happened Shayne.”

    “I know. I don’t know what to say. Derek…”

“You’ve been acting this way ever since that night on the docks by the lake. You seemed so excited, so happy to see me and then all of sudden something changed and you’re pulling away from me when I try to kiss you. What’s up Shayne?”

“This? I have my sources. But wouldn’t The Mirror love this headline: Talk show Host’s Son Gay! And of all people Reva. What delicious irony. I hope you both don’t have the same taste in men.”

Shayne knew all to well exactly what Derek was talking about and it worried him. He wanted this year to be over already and it only had just begun. Shayne tried to convince himself that things would be better after graduation, after prom and after the Cedars project was locked up.

“I just think at times that we’re moving to fast.” Shayne lied. “You have a lot more experience than I do and sometimes I feel like we’re going ninety to nothing.”

“I never thought about that. I’m sorry if you feel that way.”

“And this…” Shayne began, “you apologizing for being you, this is not what I wanted. Damnit! I hate this Derek, you have to know that.”

“I had a meeting with Ross the other day in regards to if the baby is mine.” Bill explained

“That’s smart, to work out a custody arrangement.” Billy replied. “How is little Michelle doing?”

“For starters she’s not little, she’s past her due date and running the birth of what could be my child like the Bauer BBQ.”

“Ouch. So this meeting with Ross what was it about?”

“Right after the baby is born we’re going to have a DNA test ran to see who the father is. And if it’s me, I’m going to sue Michelle for full custody.”

Billy took a minute and let the words sink in. “That’s a big step Bill. Are you sure about this?”

“I’m hundred percent sure and please don’t try and talk me out of it, Ross already did.”

“Okay, okay I won’t. I just can’t imagine that Ross agreed to represent you.”

“He didn’t. That’s one of the reasons I’m telling you all of this, he recommend an attorney in Oakdale and I have a meeting with her in a couple of days.”

“If this is what you want Bill then I’ll stand by you but maybe you try to work something out with Michelle. The two of you have been friends since you were knee high to a grasshopper. I would hate to see this friendship ruined over all of this.”

“All of this? Dad do you hear yourself? You are talking about what could possibly by your grandchild. Michelle kept this from me and if Mom hadn’t found out she was pregnant there is a chance Michelle never would have told me she was pregnant.”

“Believe me I understand and like I said I support you a hundred percent. Whatever you decide and I’m sure your mother will feel the same way.”

“So you don’t think this is a bad idea?”

“You want to make a point and to me that’s never a bad idea Bill. I just think that there are ways that you could go about doing the same thing without trying to take the baby away from it’s mother.”

Bill rubbed his forehead and shook his head. “Why don’t you go back to your loft, think about it a little more before making in rash decisions. Call Vanessa, call Mindy talk to them about it and see what they think. We’ll all support you no matter what, we just want what’s best for you?”

Bill stood up. “When did you become so smart?”

“Boy it beats the hell out of me.” Billy laughed!

They both took a minute to think before speaking again. “I know that you and I have something, a connection and it’s one that I’ve never had with anyone else. But so many things, great things are happening for you right now, graduation, prom and this summer is going to be huge for you.”

“I’ve never done this before. You knew this when we began…whatever this is.”

“The thing is Shayne I don’t think we know what this is yet and we need to take a step back.”

“So that’s what we’re doing, taking a break? Because standing here right now it feels like something more concrete, more permanent than a break.”

“I don’t want you to feel like that Shayne…”

“Well then how the hell do you want me to feel?” He fired back only to get a silent response. “Answer the damn question Derek. You came to Springfield, you pursued me and now all of a sudden you think we’re in to deep? Maybe this is what taking a break is like, I don’t know. I haven’t done it enough to know but I’ve seen Marah do it, Tammy and Lizzie.” Shayne grabbed his bag from the chair by the door. “Derek?”

“We are taking a break. I haven’t ever lied to you about who I was, you know that I’ve been with other guys before. I fall hard and fall fast Shayne and usually after four months, six months it’s over and I move on. It’s who I am, but with you…” Derek smiled, “with you there it’s so easy to just be me and that scares me.”

Derek took Shayne’s hand in his. “I want this to work. I don’t want you to be one of those guys I ditched after four months so you’re just going to have to give me some time. And it’s time that you need too.”

“So you and I we’re not over?”

Derek shook his head. “No. We just need our space with one another, we have all the time in the world Shayne to progress this relationship.” He shook his head in agreement. “So we’re okay?”

“Yeah.” Shayne answered shyly. “So, can I get a not-so-farewell-non-break-up kiss before I leave?”

Their lips locked for what seemed like hours, but only mere seconds. Shayne blew out of the apartment almost as quickly as he had entered. Derek raced for his cell phone.

“What took you so long?” A male voice answered, not even a hello.

“I told you it was the landlord. He had to check the air conditioning unit and some other things around the place.” Derek sat down on his bed and a worried looked wiped over his face. “So when did you say you were coming to town Dad?”

“The end of next week.” Trevor Bowden answered. “Is that a problem?”

“Problem?” Derek replied. “Why would it be a problem, unless you haven’t told Mom you were coming.”

“Well you just leave her to me, I’ll deal with you mother.”

“I’ve been trying to call him all night. There’s probably something wrong with his phone, the whole town has been in shambles after the storm.” Lillian explained. “Beth you had severe internal bleeding…” her eyes filled with tears as she thought back, “Ed said you flat-lined on the table at least twice. You have to understand how lucky you are.”

“I need Phillip…” Beth also began to tear up. “Find my husband please.”

Lillian kissed Beth on the cheek and quickly left the room, in the doorway she spoke. “I almost love you Beth and that scared me to death.”

“I promise it won’t happen again.” She replied from her bed. “I love you far too much to leave you.”

“So it wasn’t a dream.” Olivia smiled. “You’re really here aren’t you?”

“Did you think I would leave you?”

“I just figured you would call Alan and then go back to be with Beth.” Olivia turned her head away from him. “Is the baby okay?”

“She’s healthy, strong and just as beautiful as her mother.” Phillip touched her chin and turned her head back towards him. “You asked me a question at the mansion before all hell broke lose. Do you remember what it was?”

“Do I remember?” Olivia retorted. “Phillip how could I have forgotten.” She paused and touched his hand. “Did you make a decision?”

Phillip ran his fingers through his hair. He was tired and hadn’t slept in what felt like hours. “That’s all I’ve thought about, all night. Sitting with you, watching you sleep, seeing your baby girl. And Beth…”

    “Beth’s here?”

Phillip nodded his head. “She was in a car accident. No one even knows that I’m here or that I even know.”

“You should go to her Phillip.” Olivia told him. “I’m not your problem. She’s your wife, not me.”

“I stood in the doorway of your room and her room watching you both sleep and I realized something. God, I don’t know it has happened again but I’ve allowed myself to fall in love with two very different women. I have feelings for Beth that’s a given considering our history, but Olivia there’s something that pulls me back to you everytime I see your smiling face or hear your name.”

“And I feel the same way. I care for you very much, but the simple fact of the matter is this Phillip at any minute my husband, your father is going to come through that door I have to tell him what’s going on and I don’t even know.” Olivia paused. “The baby and I though, we’re a package deal so you need to decide. Pick me or pick Beth but I need to know, now Phillip.”

“I’ve never been good with ultimatums.” He told her.

“Well, I’m sorry. I don’t really know what to tell you. I competed with Reva for Josh’s love and when I escaped that I promised myself I wouldn’t do anything like that again. I can’t, not now I have to think about my child now.”

“The last thing I want to do is put you in a position like that again Olivia.” Phillip told her. “I had Rick run a DNA test late last night on the baby. We won’t have to play games to be together Olivia.” He smiled.

    “What do you mean?”

In the corridor of Cedars a woman in black high heels walked down the hallway toward Olivia’s room.

Olivia smiled and choked back her own tears of joy. “Are you saying what I think you’re saying? Phillip…Phillip answer me. Are you saying that my daughter is your daughter?”

Phillip shook his head. “She is.” He said as their lips suddenly met and the door pushed opened. Standing there watching, unnoticed was none other than Alexandra!

Prom night for the Class of 2007 has finally arrived! Marina, Shayne, Tammy and Lizzie have spent the entire day racing around Springfield getting their hair done, nails painted and in some cases finding a new pair of high heel shoes that didn’t pinch their toes.

At the Lewis home Shayne is in his room hopelessly trying to get in touch with Derek. He has sent several text messages and voice mail message throughout the day.

“Joshua Shayne Lewis!” Reva calls from the foot of the stairs. “I know you have a clock up there in that room of yours, Cassie has called twice already let’s hussle!”

Shayne paced the floor by his bed he still had to finish dressing and do something with his hair. “Derek it’s me again, yes I know that I’ve left you like four messages today and I know what we talked about but it’s prom night and I just thought I would be able to see you for a couple of minutes at least. Call me.”

After about fifteen more minutes of waiting and two more calls from his aunt, Shayne appeared in the Lewis family living room. Reva marvels for a moment at how much he reminds her of Dylan, Rusty and Hawk. She tears up and quickly thinks back to her San Cristobel trip and Jonathan. Reva reminds herself mentally that tonight is about Shayne and the two head out for the farmhouse.

In the car, Reva and Shayne catch up for the first time since she returned. He tells her the news that he was named Valedictorian, his acceptance to Springfield University and Reva questions why he is going to prom with Tammy and not some other girl in school. Shayne tells her that he wanted tonight to be special in a different way, that he wants to look back twenty years from now and remember that he took someone that meant something to him. Shayne tells his Mom that he and Tammy have become close since Richard’s death and can’t imagine this night without her. Reva marvels at what a wonderful young man Shayne has grown into!

Later, the Lewis/Winslow family gather together for pictures. Cassie and Reva share a special moment as they watch their kids go off to prom together and they note this is the beginning of what will be the end of their childhood!

The boarding house at Company has been transformed into Marina beauty headquarters as Lucy and Harley work to help her get ready for her big night! As Marina is coming out of the shower her aunts prepare her for a big surprise. When Marina opens the door to her room she is stunned to see her mother, Eleni (Andros) Cooper in Springfield! Marina is speechless.

“Did you really expect me to miss this?” Eleni questioned.

“It’s just that I didn’t think you were coming till later in the week, closer to graduation night.” Marina explained as she looked across the room at Harley, “Should I thank you for this?”

“Harley would have been the innocent one here if you had told me it was your prom night.” Eleni stroked Marina’s hair. “My daughter,” she smiled, “do you know how beautiful you are?”

“Mom!” Marina blushed. “So you’re going to be here all week?”

“Of course. Buzz was gracious enough to offer me an empty room and you know who I can’t wait to meet.” Eleni replied. “This Ben you rave about every time the two of us talk.”

Harley and Lucy take their leave as Eleni helps Marina get ready for the prom.

The Raines women are at the Spaulding mansion, a letter from Cedars labeled “SPAULDING” rests on top of Beth’s dresser, untouched and unopened. Beth and Lillian are waiting for Lizzie to emerge from the bathroom where she was “fixing” the mess the hairdresser made.

“Ed told you to stay another night, it’s just that I wish you would have listened to him is all.” Lilian sighed. “I just don’t think you understand the severity of your accident is all.”

“Lillian…” Alexandra entered the room, “darling I can hear you halfway down the hall. We promised Lizzie that we would make tonight about her and her alone.”

“Thank you Alexandra.” Beth smiled, “You should listen to her.”

Lizzie appeared from the bathroom wearing a stunning yellow gown that flowed when she walked! Each of the women in her life smiled and complimented her on how gorgeous she looked tonight. After meeting Austin Hollingsworth and seeing the couple off to the prom, Phillip and Alan left the mansion to go back to the office, Olivia tended to baby Hannah, Alexandra left the mansion and Lillian took her daughter back upstairs to rest!

The teens are enjoying themselves at the prom, dancing, laughing and having a great time, everyone that is but Lizzie who is segregated from her core group of friends and setting with the jocks of the school. After awhile she convinces Austin to go sit with her friends and she begins to open up much more and have a good time! Marina toasts to a wonderful night, good friends, surviving high school and an amazing boyfriend! After the toast, she drags Lizzie and Tammy out on the dance floor, leaving Ben, Shayne and Austin alone. Shayne’s phone starts ringing and he’s excited to see that Derek is calling and he leaves to go find a more quiet place…Ben goes to get some more punch and feels an incredible pain in his lower stomach, he goes to the bathroom…as the girls return.

The Senior class president prepares to name the Prom King and Queen, Lizzie insists that Austin run and find Shayne for her since he knows where he took off to. Austin goes to the lobby and see Shayne with Derek in a corner, almost hiding. Austin watches from the elevator as Derek and Shayne kiss…disgusted Austin returns and tells Lizzie he couldn’t find Shayne! The moment has arrived, Austin thinking he is about become Prom King mentally prepares himself for the dance he’s sure to be sharing with Lizzie. The class president announces: Shayne Lewis as Prom King, only angering Austin even more, as Lizzie is named Prom Queen. Austin is forced to watch his date dance with Shayne causing his blood to boil…as they share their dance Ben is alone in the men’s rest room when he suddenly realizes something is not right!

Up in one of the master suites of the Spaulding mansion, Lillian declines Beth’s offer to spend the night and insists that Beth get to bed and rest! She begins to turn down the covers as Beth changes clothes in the closet.

“Ed gave you some sleeping pills you should take one. I know I said you should rest but sleep will be better.” Lillian suggested as she sat the bottle next to the unopened letter. “Honey what is this letter?”

Appearing from the closet, “What letter?”

“It was sitting here on your dresser.” Lillian turned it over and examined the back. “There’s no name on it, other than Spaulding.” Beth heads back to the closet to finish dressing. “Should I open it? Do you care Beth?”

    “No, not at all.”

Lillian slid her finger under the flap and unfolded the letter inside. She quickly read through it and recognized what it was. She stands there frozen in shock! “Beth?!”

“What was it? More notes from Ed? Let me guess, plenty of rest, fluids and no driving for what a week, two weeks?” Beth laughed. “Momma?”

“This wasn’t for you. Silly us, you’re not the only Spaulding in this house, it was for, um…Olivia.”

Beth shook her head slowly, “Olivia? You’re lying Momma and I know when you’re lying, just like you know when I’m lying. Give me the paper.”

“I’m not lying Beth it wasn’t for you.” Lillian said sternly.

Beth snatched the paper from Lillian’s tight grip and read the information for herself. Her lips trembled as she read the words. “Is this legitimate?” She finally questioned. “Momma you would know is this a fake or is it real?”

“It looks authentic yes, but that doesn’t mean it is Beth. There could be a mistake or something, errors do happen.”

“And I understand that, but Phillip requested this paternity test not Olivia, not Alan, Phillip. My husband has reason to believe that he’s the father of her baby and…” the realization hit her suddenly, “go home Momma.”

    “Beth…”

“Don’t patronize, don’t you dare.” With tears in her eyes she looked at Lillian, “Go home and leave that to my husband.”

“Leave what to me?” Phillip questioned from the doorway. “What’s going on?”

“Funny I was just about to ask you the same damn thing?” Beth announced!

“Well isn’t this exciting?” Lizzie asked as Shayne took her hand. “Did you ever think that we would be Springfield High royalty?”

Shayne smiled at her. “Honestly? No!” He laughed. “So what happens now?”

The spotlight hit the center of the dance floor. “I think were supposed to share a dance.” She led him to the center of the room, all eyes rested on them. “Are you having a good time?”

“Yeah, of course I am.” He whispered into her ear. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You just seem distant lately is all,” Lizzie answered. “These are supposed to be the best times of our lives and you just seem content, not upset but not unhappy.”

“You know I have a lot of stuff going on, graduation, my mom and Marah are still fighting with one…” he paused and looked at the girl in his arms, “can I tell you something?” He twirled Lizzie, she laughed as other couples, including Austin and Tammy joined them on the dance floor.

    “What’s on you mind baby?”

Shayne smiled and shook his head. “If someone would have told me that you and I would be here, like this, a year ago I would have laughed so hard.”

“Right!” Lizzie agreed. “It’s the power of friendship.”

“I’m going to tell you something that I have been dealing with for about the last year and half,” Shayne began as the music hit a high note. “What I’m going to tell you is very personal and not a whole lot of people know…” his mind suddenly raced back to the night when Derek arrived in Springfield, his mind filled with Alan-Michael’s venomous words but he pushed that aside.

“If you don’t tell me what’s on your mind this song is going to be over,” Lizzie told him. “Please know that you can trust me Shayne, please.”

    “I’m gay Lizzie.”

She stared up at him, tongue-tied. “Say something.” Shayne told her.

Lizzie shook her head. “You’re sure?” Her words stumbled, “That didn’t come out right, I’m sorry…this is kind of…”

    “Shocking?”

“No not at all…” she realized what she had just implied and backtracked. “Okay, that didn’t come out right either,” and she suddenly realized she had inserted her foot into her mouth once more! “You hate me?”

He shook his head, “No. I know this is a lot to take in on the dance floor of our prom but it’s something that you needed to know, something that I felt you should know.” The music ended as everyone applauded their king and queen one final time.

With her hand in his Shayne led Lizzie off the dance floor. “This doesn’t change anything between us, promise me that.”

“Nothing. I promise.” Lizzie kissed him on the cheek, “And you can trust that I’ll never say anything.”

    “About what?” Austin questioned.

“There you are!” Lizzie wrapped her arms around Austin’s waist, “About Shayne, he just learned how dance like two or something…” her eyes darted from her date to Shayne and then Tammy, “and by the way he was leading out there I had no idea.”

“Right…” Austin agreed. “Why don’t we got get some punch.”

Shayne and Tammy watched them walk away. “What was that all about?” She finally asked.

“Beats the hell out me.” Shayne winked, “Come on…I want to spin you across the dance floor.”

“Ava first thing in the morning I will need those figures.” Alan-Michael was working from his suite at The Beacon. “Messenger them over to me at Towers, I’ll be having breakfast with Charles Grant and my father.” He listened as she spoke, “Yes Phillip will be there as well.”

Lucy stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom. She was wearing hardly anything, red-laced lingerie that A-M had bought her before they left Europe. As she appeared in the doorway her husband ended his conversation with his secretary.

“Oh Mr. Spaulding,” Lucy softly whispered in a seductive manner as she made her way across the room. “You know there’s an old saying about all work and no play.”

Lucy ran her hands down A-M’s chest and kissed his neck, “You know watching Marina get ready for prom and then seeing how happy she was with Ben made me realize something.”

    “Oh?”

“Mm-hhmm. It made me realize how much I love you. And it made me miss how things where with us in Europe.” She loosened his tie, “You do remember how things where in Europe don’t you?”

“You’re certainly helping to job my memory.” He sighed heavily. “And if you could just hold that thought for another half-hour so that I can finish this paperwork that would be amazing.”

Lucy stopped what she was doing and questioned, “You want me to wait? Alan-Michael look at me, turn around and look at me!” She announced, “Do I look like I want to wait for you?”

    “Lucy…”

“You promised me that when we came back here, after you forced me to come back here, nonetheless that things would not change.”

“They haven’t.” He defended as she grabbed a robe.

“How would you know Alan-Michael? You spend every waking hour either at Spaulding Enterprises or on the phone with Ava talking about that damn Cedars project. And then when you finally do decide to come home, and I use that term loosely because take a look around you this is not a home…you’re going over numbers and figures and contracts.”

“You know that I take my work very seriously.”

“You’re work? Please let’s call your work what it really is and that is an attempt to prove yourself to Alan,” she screamed as she headed towards the bathroom.

    “Where are you going?”

“Harley’s,” Lucy announced. “Let me tell you something,” she stopped and spun around, “if you for one second think that I am going to take a back seat and let Spaulding Enterprises become your number one priority then darling your are horribly mistaken. Do you understand me?”

    “This is my career.”

“And I’m your wife, you know I never thought I would have to remind you of that, but clearly I do,” Lucy slammed the door leaving A-M alone with his work!

    THE GUIDING LIGHT UPDATE
    07/23/2007 Edition

Tulsa, OK – (July 23, 2007) - Mighty big changes are happening for the SONBC nominated blog-series "The Guiding Light" as they prepare for new cast additions, a reality TV show twist, production changes and so much more!

Setside sources are revealing that a new production schedule is in place for the blog as well, beginning this week!

“After careful deliberation and council with my co-head writer (Dan Gobble) we have come to the conclusion that three episodes a week for the series will be beneficial to the stories we are telling,” executive producer Josh Hawkins stated earlier this week.

So what will this change in production mean for the beloved citizens of Springfield and to the readers of the blog? “Hopefully for the citizens it means that stories are going to be told a faster pace,” Gobble stated. “For our readers it will mean that episodes will become a little longer and a little more in-depth. We are committed to telling these stories and we hope that our readers are just as committed,” Gobble concluded.

The change won’t happened immediately however. TGL is taking a week hiatus beginning Monday, July 23, 2007 after Episode 078 is published. “We have to outline, plan and write,” Hawkins laughs. And another change is coming, a special graduation episode is planned for Monday, July 30th wrapping up the teen storyline with the birth of Michelle’s baby.

Michelle (Bethany Joy Galeotti) must watch as her Baby Girl fights for survival this summer!
“We know that baby-related storylines have been beat to death in the daytime arena,” Hawkins continued, “so we don’t want to tell a story that will make readers turn away from the show.” That said however, it will be revealed on the August 1st episode that Baby Bauer has been in pre-natal intensive care since her birth. “The Bauer, Lewis and Danny really rally together in this time,” Hawkins says, “since it is still unclear whether or not Danny or Bill is the biological father.”

In addition to the baby storyline other stories that will be moved forward include: Holly continues to spiral downward as Ross and Blake prepare to marry, the Cedar's project is in full swing and those Lewis boys know something is up, Ben faces the truth that something is the matter with him health wise and Alan/Phillip/Beth/Olivia storyline takes a turn during this time.

"We have some great stories coming down the pike for the last six months in Springfield," Hawkins concluded. "We hope that you'll stick with us and see what we have in store for everyone."

Look for the final episode of TGL before hiatus on Tuesday, July 24th and then the blog resumes a regular air schedule on the 30th.

    CASTING ROUNDUP

    - "The Guiding Light" will welcome Tamara Tunie (Jessica, As The World Turns) to the canvas shortly after the series returns from the schedule hiatus. "We have enjoy utilizing our sister soap," Hawkins smiled. Readers will note that early on in the blog it was revealed that Lillian Raines (Tina Sloan) shares a friendship with Dr. Susan Stewart (Marie Masters.) So will there be more ATWT/TGL crossovers in the future? "Maybe," Hawkins replies, "we don't want to use up a good thing. If the storyline requires something of the nature that would fit of course."

    - There seems to be a reason why the contents of Ed's letter from Roger hasn't been opened yet on screen and it comes down to casting and time according to setside sources. Rumor has it that executives are attempting to lure a veteran charater/actress for a limited run in late summer/early fall. "TGL" doesn't comment on rumors.

    - Could two of of the blog's brighest young starlets be on their way! Some of daytime's biggest and brightest young stars have been spotted roaming the halls of the studio including the recently married Jennifer Finnigan (ex-Bridget, B&, Jennifer Ferrin (ex-Jennifer, ATWT) and even DAYS young star Martha Madison (Belle, DAYS). Could this be a possible recast role or are they looking to fill a recent casting call for a young and powerful executive at Spaulding Enterprise, stay tuned!

    A NEW REALITY TWIST COMING

Final details are being ironed out for an exciting and interesting new reality twist that will tie into the storylines on "The Guiding Light." "I just recently got the approval from co-head writer," laughs the EP Josh Hawkins. The new reader-interaction event is slated to begin August 13th so stay tuned!

Tammy asks if his special someone is coming to the ceremony and Shayne reveals that he no longer has a special someone, she apologizes and later leaves.

At the farmhouse, Cassie hands Tammy a letter from George Washington University and she questions what that is. Tammy explains that she submitted an application there and wants Cassie too seriously consider letting her go. Cassie questions why she wants to leave Springfield to attend college. Tammy tells her that she wants a fresh start and reminds Cassie that she did say she would be able to attend any university she wanted. Cassie assures her daughter that she has not forgotten that promise and tells her that they will discuss it later. Tammy agrees.

Beth is at Lillian’s distraught over this yet again and realizes that she can’t keep this development from Lizzie, not again especially after she kept Bill and her wedding to Phillip from her. Lizzie arrives at Lillian’s as planned and Beth sits her daughter down. Beth explains what happened the night before with Phillip, Olivia, Alan and the baby. Beth says that she is not willing to work through this with Phillip and that they’ll be getting a divorce. Lizzie becomes furious saying that this is not how things were supposed to happen, not tonight anyway and storms off. Beth wants to go after her but Lillian encourages her to let Lizzie come to terms with this on her own.

After finishing his speech, Shayne and Marina get ready to leave Springfield High. When Shayne goes to open up his locker, he’s horrified by what he sees staring back at him. In large, red block letters the word, “FAG” is written in his locker. He quickly regains his composure before Marina can see and slams the door, the two of them quickly leave together as another student watches from down the hall…

Lizzie bursts into Spaulding Enterprises where she finds her father cleaning out his desk. Lizzie questions, “So it’s true? You slept with Olivia and now Grandfather is kicking you out.” Phillip asks if Lizzie spoke with her mother and when she assures him that she did Phillip tries to give her his side of the story. Lizzie tells him to save his lies, because they won’t work on her not this time! Lizzie says that they had a chance to be a real family again and Phillip blew it to hell! She goes to leave and assures Phillip she will never forgive him for this, NEVER!

    SUMMER UPDATE

Tulsa, OK – (August 4, 2007) - With the SONBC blog "The Guiding Light" slated to return to production on August 6th, executive producer and co-head writer Josh Hawkins sat down to open up about storyline changes, a shift in episode production, a return of a daytime veteran actress, a recast and one storyline that will rock Springfield!

    Late Summer/Early Fall Storylines

SONBC: Welcome! This is the first interview you've done in a long while.
Hawkins: I know! We've all been missing out, huh?

SONBC: I think we have. Let's talk about the hiatus, was it planned?
Hawkins: No. We had behind-the-scenes production issues which are addressed below, as well as preparing new episodes and getting some storylines under control.

SONBC: Of course, like having your teens attend prom in "Springfield May" when it reality it was July.
Hawkins: Exactly what I mean! I saw a way to wrap up the stories into a nice little package, deliver it and move foward to present day, eight weeks after the fact.

SONBC: Now there are some stories that might not work for, like Michelle's baby, Gus' paternity resolution and Shayne's betrayal, how will that work?
Hawkins: (Gasps!) You doubt my writing. (Laughs) Kidding, things will be explained in Episode 081 at the beginning. I've added "Since You Been Gone" paragraph to fill in the blanks from some stories, other stories are being written into the eight week gap. Which ones I won't say.

SONBC: You hold your cards close to your chest don't you?
Hawkins: I just think that the stories Dan and I have written are top notch, classic "The Guiding Light" and I don't want to spoil everything. I need to feed you some crumbs so that you'll come to the dinner table to eat!

SONBC: Okay, that's fair! What can we expect to see on Monday?
Hawkins: Well because we're dealing with Crystal Chappell leaving for about a week (her last airdate on "TGL" is August 8th) so that she can return to "AS DAYS GO BY" where she'll be representing Dr. Carly Manning, our first order of business is the Phillip and Beth divorce.

SONBC: Rumor had it at one point that it would appear Olivia had been murdered, any truth to that?
Hawkins: That was one of the stories that was suggested, however it is not how Olivia will be leaving Springfield. (See below for additional information.) We're dealing with Michelle and her yet unnamed daughter's storyline, the stories are moving a little more quickly.

SONBC: That can be a good thing, just not to quick...
Hawkins: Preaching to the choir here. When I penned the original web-series "All Or Nothing" I could stretch a story like no other, but not here. I have a large cast to play with and a lot of stories to tell with them.

SONBC: You have three very big stories coming up, care to share what they are?
Hawkins: I do! We're tackling a medical issue that has never been done to my knowledge in daytime: testicular cancer. It will impact one of the young leading men on the blog and we're very excited to tell this story. There have been so many blotched medical stories in daytime, we hope that this is not one of them.

SONBC: So you've done your research?
Hawkins: Every step of the way! Also make sure to RSVP now for August 17th, Ross and Blake will be married and two other stories reach their climatic high points also, the Lewis family will be changed forever!

SONBC: Some great stuff is coming it sounds like. One last question, when will Ed open Roger's letter?
Hawkins: August 17th! I am looking forward to this episode more than anyone knows! Episode 086 is going to feature your favorite "LIGHT" characters, we invite you to join us...

    REVOLVING DOOR: CASTING NEWS

    RECAST ALERT

In a shocking casting move, Alexa Havins is OUT as Marah Lewis and replaced by former “World Turns” darling Jennifer Ferrin. Get the inside story…

“A change was needed,” confirms Hawkins about the exit. Havins who beat out Martha Madison and Bree Williamson for the coveted role last summer prior to the blog’s debut last aired on July 4 in Episode 075.

“Alexa’s departure is completely storyline related,” Hawkins explained. “When she began she was our Marah, but we feel the part has outgrown what Alexa had to offer.”

“Marah is becoming a woman, we’re progressed forward with her relationship with Danny Santos and the relationship between Marah and her mother must be repaired. We felt that a more mature looking Marah would help in that vision,” said Hawkins.

Therefore, after an exhausting search that brought back Williamson and Madison as well as other younger leading women with daytime credits, including Lauren Woodland and Jennifer Finnigan, executives decided upon Ferrin.

“It came down to Madison and Ferrin,” Hawkins recounted. “In the end it was Ferrin who won us over.”
Ferrin who is a two-time Emmy nominated actress for her role as Jennifer Munson-Donovan on “ATWT” will debut on August 6 in Episode 081 as a brunette. “It was important for to maintain her brunette hair color and show some red.” Hawkins laughs, “She is after all Josh’s daughter.”

So how will Ferrin’s arrival affect the TGL/ATWT crossovers? “We maintain that what is happening with ATWT on-air at the moment is what is happening in the blog, Jennifer is dead.”

Ferrin has signed an exclusive contract with the blog.

    COMING IN

    "Another World" Legal Eagle Return

Stephen Schnetzer who created the role of Cass Winthrop on the now defunct “Another World” will step back into the lawyer’s shoes on “The Guiding Light.” Schnetzer who began playing Cass in July 1982 and continued until the show was canceled by NBC in June 1999. “We wanted to continue the AW/GL connection that has been established many years ago,” executiver producer of the SONBC blog Josh Hawkins stated. “Soaps are about family and we’re very pleased to continue to use the Proctor & Gamble connections,” he concluded.

Cass arrives on August 6 (Episode 081) to represent Beth Raines-Spaulding [beth Chamberlain] in her divorce hearing against estranged husband Phillip [Grant Aleksander.] Schnetzer is slated to make two more appearances later this fall in a separate storyline. “Originally it was supposed to Jessica Griffin [Tamara Tunie] from “As the World Turns” crossing over but things did not pan out,” explains Hawkins.

    Olivia’s Sister Returns

In what was thought to be a role meant for Lisa Peluso insiders are reporting that negoations with the former “Another World/As the World Turns” starlet have fallen through. Instead Judith Blazer who appeared in 1999 as Marissa Randall will return. “Marissa’s arrival will help bring Olivia [Crystal Chappell] back to the canvas after her run on "AS DAYS GO BY.” Hawkins also went on to say, “We’re working towards bringing Reva’s son Jonathan onto the canvas and Marissa will be an important part of that story.” Look for Blazer to return as Marissa on August 22.

    Negotiation Time

The blog is the final stages of negotiation with Jay Hammer who played the role of Fletcher from 1984-1998; 1999. “We have the abilitiy to bring back characters with rich history that have made The Guiding Light what it is today,” co-head writer Dan Gobble said. Rumors are circling that executives what Hammer back for a handful of episodes during Ben’s upcoming storyline.

In addition, to Hammer’s hopeful return behind-the-scenes sources are reporting that once Roger’s letter to Ed is read the studio will be on lockdown! Producers are keeping mum about what is in the content of the letter, but report it’s classic Roger! “Someone is returning!” An unnamed source claims, “And the only people who know who it is, is the co-head writers.”

    OVER & OUT

Melina Kanakaredes wraps up her return as Eleni Cooper on August 20.

Alexa Havins wrapped up her year long-plus role as Marah Lewis on July 4, see above article for more information.

    Nine Weeks in the Future

“Would you like to see a menu Mrs. Spaulding?” A waitress at Towers questioned, “Sir?”

“That won’t be necessary Darlene, Mr. Winthrop and I won’t be staying long.” Beth answered. “Cass I know that you’re just doing your job but I really appreciate you coming all the way from Bay City today.”

“No problem at all Beth,” Cass answered. “I know that we’ve talked a lot about this day over the course of the last eight or nine weeks, but just so I’m clear…”

“Cass…I’m so sorry to interrupt you but you’ve asked me this same question at every meeting we had since I filed for divorce and my answer has always been the same.”

“I’m aware of that Beth. But, the relationship you had with Phillip…”

“Is over,” she assured him. “Olivia Spaulding suck her greedy sharp claws into Alan, she sought out to wreck my relationship with Lizzie, she published a very private diary that I wrote during one of the lowest points in my life, she had a child with Phillip and the worse part of this whole damn thing is that Phillip loves her.”

“I can only imagine how you must feel Beth and I apologize for the hurt this has caused you.”

“Thank you and I appreciate that, very much.” Beth paused, and then spoke sternly and directly. “Phillip is an incredibly wealthy man and I want half of everything I am entitled to as his wife, Spaulding stock, alimony. I want custody of my son, I want the art gallery he promised me and…” she stopped mid sentence.

“You want the affair exposed in open court?” Cass asked.

Beth took a moment to answer, “You bet your ass I do.”

“Would you go ahead and e-mail those figures to me,” Mindy Lewis questioned from the comfort of her apartment in Paris. “Okay then Daddy,” she shook her head, “have Wanda or Uncle Josh send them. You really need to…” she listened as Billy attempted to lecture her. “Just have Wanda do it. Okay?” Mindy listened as Billy called out to Wanda. “How’s he doing?”

“It’s tough for him Melinda Sue,” Billy answered. “It helps hearing from you though.”

“And the baby?” Mindy questioned, “I spoke with Michelle earlier in the week and she said that the baby might go home this week.”

“That’s right. Just between you and me darlin’ I don’t see how that little girl could not be a Lewis, because she is one of helluva of a fighter.”

Mindy laughed, “I miss you so much sometimes.”

“You oughta come see your old man more often that would remedy that problem of yours.” Billy listened as Mindy explained how busy she was and that it was hard for her to get away.

“Listen Marah just got off the phone with Danny. I’ll call you later Daddy. I love you too.”

Marah had her hair pulled up in a tight ponytail and even though it was early afternoon in Paris she was wearing some pink PJs that Reva had sent over weeks earlier, “Was that Uncle Billy?”

Mindy shook her head, “Yeah, he’s freaking out over an email that took Wanda a second and half to send over. Any luck getting Danny on the phone?”

“Take a guess?” Marah sank down on the sofa next to her. That had become sort of a tradition lately, Marah called Danny…he didn’t answer…she came to Mindy and cried and asked the same question time and time again. “What in the hell was I thinking? Michelle has a baby…quite possibly Danny’s child and I flip out…”

“Marah don’t put yourself through this torture again, you did what you did because you were scared. It’s completely understandable.”

“No! No it’s not Mindy. The man I say I love needed me desperately and I refused to stand by him. How do you even begin to apologize for something like that?” Marah laid her head on Mindy’s shoulder and tears slowly streamed down her cheek.

“All rise. This court is now in session the Honorable David Chandler is preceding.” A court bailiff called out as Beth cut her eyes toward Phillip. She loved him despite everything that he had put her through with Hannah and Olivia. He was apart of her, no matter what was about to happen.

Across the courtroom, Phillip stood also reflecting on his past with Beth. His mind raced back to a Christmas nine years earlier and something that she had said to him, “Phillip don’t you remember all the dreams you had? I do, I remember them like they were yesterday.” Beth did know his dreams. She held a large part of his heart and his past. Nevertheless, he knew it was time to move on, it had to be because he was in love with another woman.

Ross and Cass almost at the same time touched their client’s hand so they would set down. “Mdm. Court Clerk will you call the case number please?” Judge Chandler ordered.

“Case number 8912-A, comes now the petitioner Beth Raines Spaulding seeking in this court a legal decree of divorce from the respondent Phillip Granville Spaulding.”

“Is there representation for both parities?” Judge Chandler questioned.

“Cass Wintrhop for Beth Raines Spaulding. Ross Marler for Phillip Spaudling.” Both lawyers addressed the court.

“All right then let’s get this underway shall we? Mr. Winthrop as the petitioner please tell us why Mrs. Spaulding comes seeking a divorce from Mr. Spaulding.”

“You’re honor,” Cass stood to address the court, “Mrs. Spaulding has filed this petition with court because of her husband’s infidelity with one Olivia Spencer-Spaulding.”

Ross stood, “Your honor we do not object this fact, however we feel that the dissolution of marriage should be lack of communication.”

“Your honor my client has evidence in the form of a DNA test that will prove to the court beyond a responsible doubt that during their marriage Mr. Spaulding was unfaithful, while not physically, but mentally to his wife…”

“Objection your honor!” Ross called out. “My client was never unfaithful to his wife during their marriage…” He paused when Phillip touched his hand, “Your honor may have a moment to consult with my client?”

“Let’s make it quick Mr. Marler.”

“What are you doing?” Ross questioned, “Let me do my job.”

“Cass is right, I was unfaithful to Beth. I lied about Olivia and the baby.” Phillip shook his head, “Believe it or not but I do love that woman. Just agree with what Cass says and whatever she wants she can have.”

“Phillip, you’re acting in the moment and as your attorney and your uncle I have to advise you against doing anything hasty?” Ross lectured, “If you give in to her demands you’ll be giving up the chance for full custody of James. Phillip, is that what you want?”

    “Mr. Marler…” the Judge announced.

“That’s fine if that is what you want to do Phillip, but you’re not thinking of Olivia.”

    “How do you mean?”

“If we allow them to expose Olivia as an adulterous then her chances for that pre-nup holding up in court are going to be shot to hell,” Ross warned. “Is that what you want?”

“I have to protect both of them, the woman I love and the woman I used to love and still care for. You’re a smart man Ross. I trust that you’ll fix this.”

“I made a horrible mistake.” Marah finally admitted for the first time in eight weeks.

“And you think you’re alone in that mistake?” Mindy replied. “Please tell me that you haven’t forgot what Danny said to Michelle before we left for New York City.”

Marah closed her eyes and thought back to the morning after they all learned the devastating news.

“You don’t need to pack a bag for yourself, it’s only immediate family.” Danny explained from the doorway of Marah’s suite at the Santos Mansion. “Michelle’s made it perfectly clear that she’s the primary caregiver for the baby until the DNA test is performed.”

“And what Michelle wants she gets, isn’t that right Danny?” Marah asked as she zipped her luggage, “You know what don’t answer that. And this bag isn’t for the hospital, Mindy called and she needs me in Paris.”

“You’re leaving?” Danny questioned. “A little girl that could be my child or your cousin is fighting for her life and you’re running away?”

“What would you have me do? Stand by in the shadows and watch as you console Michelle, promise her that everything is going to be all right? Hardly, I love you far too much for that Danny.” She declared as Shayne honked the horn from the driveway, “That’s my brother, I have to go.”

Marah sat up on the sofa and jolted herself back into the reality of the matter, “How do I fix this? How can I explain to a man who has been nothing but good and loyal to me…”

“He’s not been loyal,” Mindy reminded her. “He kissed Michelle and where I come from, the same you do that’s not loyal.”

“But he’s been good to me, nevertheless. He was good about not pressing charges against Roxanne and my mother.”

“We’ve talked about that Marah, your mother didn’t have any control of Tony’s death, it was Roxie.”

Marah took a deep breath and rubbed her face, “I know…I have to go home don’t I?”

She lightly stroked her cousin's hair, “I’m afraid so and I’m afraid my reasons for wanting you to go home are selfish.”

    “For Bill you mean?”

“If we’re going to get this company off the ground then I need to be in New York and Marah I can’t do that until I sell my apartment here and get the design house moved.”

“Okay, okay. Either way I need to be there.”

“For Danny, for Bill and please Marah, please start making a mends with your mother.”

“Thanks for listening, I’m take a nap.”

“You know you’re just like Reva in a lot of ways,” Mindy remarked, “you jump without looking first and then somehow manage to land on your feet. That’s certainly not a Lewis trait.” Marah shook her head, “I’ll wake you for dinner.”

Ed, Michelle, Bill and Danny all sat outside the NICU. Michelle had summoned them there a hour earlier because of a development with the baby.

Reva stepped off the elevator and headed down the hall. “Hello everyone,” she announced her arrival. “Bill your Daddy called me and asked that I come down.”

“Is there something wrong?” Bill questioned.

“Just some meetings he couldn’t get out of. He’ll be down right after,” Reva explained as she returned Bill’s hug. “Has the doctor been out yet?” Bill shook his head no and led Reva over to an empty seat out the couch across from Ed and Michelle. “How is everyone? Danny.” Reva smiled. “Michelle I hope you don’t mind me being here, Bill wanted Billy to come…”

“It’s fine Reva,” Michelle answered just as the doctor emerged from the NICU.

“Looks like that little girl in there has quite the fan club,” the doctor smiled.

“You said that you had some news about the baby,” Michelle cut to the point. “Has something changed?”

“Something has changed indeed,” he explained. “It appears that the baby responded very well to the surgery to repair the whole in her heart. We’ve monitored her as you know for the last nine weeks and we’re ready to put her in a nursery for a few days.”

“And then what?” Michelle asked, as she looked at Ed, “Dad?”

“Well then Ms. Bauer you’ll be able to take that little fighter home for good, I would recommend giving her a name however.”

“Of course,” Michelle breathed a sigh of relief as did Danny and Bill. “I hate to bring this up, but it is something that has been worrying all of us since she was born.” Michelle explained, “There needs to be a paternity test ran immediately on the baby, we have some issues with determining who the biological father is.”

“Yes, Dr. Ramsey made that perfectly clear when I took over the case. I had one of the nurse’s take a sample of DNA from the baby’s cheek, it’s the lab right now.”

“So you need Bill and I to do a sample?” Danny finally spoke up.

    “That’s correct.”

“Can they do it now?” Ed asked. “I just think we’ve put this off for far to long…” he finished as his beeper began to go off. “I’m sorry, excuse me.”

“If Mr. Santos and Mr. Lewis are ready, now would be an ideal time.”

Everyone began to gather their belongings as Ed hurried off to the emergency room. Danny lightly touched Reva’s shoulder. “Have you heard from Marah lately?”

Reva shook her head, “She called Shayne last night. Has she not…”

“I see.” Danny cut her off as he and Bill hurried off to the elevator leaving Michelle and Reva alone.

“So how you holding up kiddo?”

Michelle shrugged, “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, that’s for sure. I just want to go in there and hold her in my arms…she’s two months old and I’ve never held her, that’s torture.”

“I know.” Reva took Michelle into her arms, “Why don’t you let me buy you a cup of coffee and you can tell me the names you’ve picked out for that little girl.”

Before Michelle could answer Reva’s phone began vibrating. “I’m sorry Michelle I have to answer this…hello, Marah.”

“Mom, can you hear me?” Marah asked.

“Of course, is something the matter?” Reva listened as Marah explained what she had been dealing with the last few days, “Tomorrow afternoon? Okay I’ll be there.” She assured her daughter and for the first time heard the words, she had waiting to hear for months. “I love you too baby.”

“Marah coming home finally?” Michelled asked as she hit the elevator button.

“Yeah seems that way.” Reva dropped her phone into her purse, “So how about that coffee?”

“Not today Reva, thanks anyway.” Michelle got on the elevator and selected a floor. “Maybe you should tell Marah about the paternity tests, I’m sure she would love to know.” Was the last words Michelle spoke before the doors closed, leaving Reva alone in the waiting room of the NICU.

“Okay seeing that both parties are in agreement with the splitting of the assets and custody of the minor child James Spaulding will be handled outside of this court.” Judge Chandler signed some documents, “Mr. Winthrop does your client wish to retain her married name?”

    “No your Honor.” Cass answered.

“Very well.” He signed some more papers, “Ms. Raines, Mr. Spaulding in the eyes of the law your marriage is no longer. Your attorney’s can see the court clerk for all the required documentation.” The Judge dropped his gavel and the court went into recess. As Cass and Ross went to the court clerk’s office it left Phillip and Beth alone. Phillip stood to leave and caught Beth’s eye.

“You know if you ever need anything…”

“I’ll call.” Beth said softly as she turned her head away and let a tear fall down her cheek.

At the Carriage House, Ross sees all of the construction workers off for the day before Phillip and Olivia were to arrive.

“Ross are you here,” he heard Phillip call from the backdoor. “Can we come in?”

“Phillip…” Ross hugged his nephew, “Of course you can. Olivia, how are you?”

“Well, that depends on you’re answer to this question. Do I need to leave Springfield?” Olivia asked as she held Hannah in her arms.

At the airport, Reva anxiously stands next a baggage carousel waiting for Marah. She glances down at her watch and notes to herself, “She should have been here by now.”

Fifteen more minutes pass as Reva grows more and more anxious. Her mind keeps racing back to her conversation with Marah yesterday and she wonders if they were on the road to making amends. Just as she was about to glance at her watch for the tenth time in a minute she saw her daughter racing towards her.

“Marah!” Reva exclaimed as she raced into her mother’s waiting arms, “Oh baby girl.” Reva held tightly to her daughter, it had been far too long since this had occurred, “Oh Marah.”

After their joyous, long overdue reunion, the two Lewis women took a seat near the carousel and waited for the luggage to come up. “How was Paris?” Reva asked, “Had any luck getting the business off the ground?”

Marah shook her head yes. “No thank to me I’m afraid though. Mindy’s done all the leg work and I think I was just a burden to here more than a help.”

“I don’t she felt that way,” Reva told her. “I am so glad that you’re home though.” She touched her face, “I missed you so much and I’m so glad that you called me to come pick you today.”

“You’re welcome,” Marah replied. “I’ve done a lot of thinking over the last two months, about Tony, Danny, us…Mindy made me realize that holding this grudge against you isn’t healthy and while I’m not completely at the point where I can forgive you I’m close,” she explained.

“That’s all I can ask,” Reva told her. “I never wanted to hurt you and I never wanted anyone else to die because of what I did. That’s something that I live with everyday, but you’re my daughter, the only one I have and if you’re mad me…” she choked back some tears as the carousel started spinning, “I love you and I’m so glad you’re home.”

As the two of them walked over to the baggage claim Marah mentioned his name finally, “How’s Danny? He hasn’t talked to me much since I left. I just hope that’s okay.”

“They conducted the DNA samples yesterday.” Reva told her, “They find out today who the father of the baby is. Do you want to go to Cedars?”

Marah shook her head, “Yeah, I do. I belong there with Danny.”

“That depends on what you’re willing to do to stay married to Alan,” Ross explained. “I know that the pre-nup agreement says that both you and Alan have to be in agreement about the divorce, but yesterday was not a good day for us.”

    “How so?” Olivia asked.

“Cass exposed your affair with Phillip and Alan is going to use that to his advantage when the two of you go to divorce court,” Ross explained.

“Alan is to blame for a lot of this too,” Olivia reminded him. “He replaced my birth control with placebos and faked two heart attacks in an attempt to gain sympathy.”

“We all know this Olivia,” Phillip told her. “What Ross is saying is that what Alan did is nothing against the pre-nup, but having the affair was.”

    “And now it’s public knowledge.”

“I don’t want to lose my hotel Ross and at the end of the day I’m still entitled to compensation for being that monster’s wife.”

“Honey…calm down,” Phillip told her again. “Ross what do you have in mind, there has to be something that you or us can do.”

“Alan will undoubtedly file for divorce and then try to serve you with the papers,” Ross began. “If he does then we’ve pretty much lost.”

    “How?”

“You’re telling the court that you feel like you’ve done nothing wrong and they could side with Alan and his pre-nup and grant the divorce,” Ross explained. “I’ve seen this happen before, so my suggestion from earlier still stands, you need to leave Springfield.”

“Leave town?” Olivia sighed heavily and kissed the baby. “Just uproot my life, Hannah’s only two and half months old…” her voice trailed off, “Where would I go? Hhmm? And when I’m there what would be going on here?”

“You’ll go to San Jemar,” Ross told her. “It’s going to be the first place Alan will look if you turn up missing. The important thing is for you not to leave your sister’s house. Plus, if someone tries to server you papers call the police have them arrested for trespassing.”

“Do you think this is going to work Ross?” Phillip asked.

“I don’t see how it couldn’t,” Ross replied. “While Olivia and the baby are gone we serve Alan for divorce, it’s done on our terms and it’s Olivia saying ‘Yes I made a mistake and I want to pay for said mistake.’ You’ll get your hotel and a substantial settlement,” he continued.

“Sounds like a reasonable plan,” Phillip admitted. “Olivia what do you think?”

“You think it will work?” Phillip shook his head yes. “Okay then I’ll leave later tonight.” She paused and thought for a moment, “Yeah, let’s go.”

Reva and Marah softly open the door to Ed’s office where they were about to reveal the results of the DNA test. Danny, Ed, Michelle, Bill and now the two of them were present as the doctor explained the type of test that was done on both the men and the baby.

Danny’s eyes meet with Marah’s as she smiles at him, but he doesn’t respond. The doctor reads the test results, “In the matter of the paternity of Baby Girl Bauer, with a one-percent margin of error, Bill Lewis you are the father.”

Ed and Reva let out sighs of relief almost at the same time as Danny’s heart sank. He had invested so much in that little girl over the last two months…Bill was beyond happy and relieved!

“And you’re sure?” Michelle questioned. “Without a doubt, positive?”

“We are Ms. Bauer,” the doctor reassured her.

Danny stood up, shook the doctor’s hand and then Bill’s. “Congratulations.”

“Thank you,” Bill replied. “I hope that we can somehow manage to become good acquaintances or even friends now, because our children are going to be living together it would just…”

“Of course,” Danny cut him off. “For the sake of our children we’ll have to find a common, neutral area.”

“Good.” Bill replied as he watched Danny wish Michelle well and then leave.

“Marah, go after him,” Reva told her daughter.

    “And say what?”

“Say what your heart has been saying for the last nine weeks. Go,” Reva ordered her.

Marah raced down the hallway and finally caught up with him at the elevator, “Danny wait.”

“Did you finally decide to come home?”

    “I did. I missed you.”

“Really? Because you have a funny way of showing how much you missed me,” Danny fired at her. “You know what I haven’t missed you.”

    “Danny…”

“Go back to the house and pack the rest of your stuff, I want you gone today.” As the doors slowly began to close she heard him say, “We’re finished Marah.”

Ross gives Olivia her flight plan, from Springfield to Port Charles, from there to a small town in Texas called River’s Edge and then on to San Jemar.

“What’s in River’s Edge, Texas?” Olivia questioned.

“I have an old business associate there, Andrew Bradshaw,” Phillip explained. “I got in contact with him today and he’s going to let us use his private jet. It’ll be okay.”

    “Do you trust this man?”

“I trust him with two of the most important things in my life,” Phillip told.

“Okay,” she fought back her tears, “in my suite at The Beacon is a large envelope for Cassie give it to here when she gets back from Washington D.C. okay.”

    “I will.”

“Olivia you really need to go,” Ross urged her.

Ross handed her the tickets she would need as Phillip shared an emotional good-bye with Hannah. She watched on as the man she loved also fought back tears.

“Is this going to work?” Olivia asked as he took her face into his large, masculine hands.

“It has to work. You are so different compared to the other women in my life that I have loved,” Phillip told her. “I want you to know that when this is all said and done, when you’re a divorced woman that I’m going to throw you the biggest, most lavish wedding this town has ever seen.” He promised.

    “Bigger than Reva’s weddings?”

“Bigger than any of them,” Phillip promised her as their lips came together for one final kiss, as they broke away Olivia knew she had to go or she never would. “I love you Olivia!” He said softly as she got closer and closer to the gate.

“I love you.” She mouthed and with that Olivia Spencer-Spaulding was gone!

Blake glanced the clock on the wall, “Quarter past nine. Is this a joke?”

“Is what a joke Blake?” Holly appeared from the hallway, “What is the matter with you?”

“The florist was supposed to bring samples be at nine o’clock and clearly she’s not here. You know I am beginning to think this wedding is doomed!”

Holly takes the opportunity to calm Blake’s nerves with a cup of coffee and small talk at the dining room table. At 9:30, the florist arrives and shows the samples to them both.

“Okay, well Blake certainly appreciates all of your help,” Holly showed her out the door as Blake finished a telephone call in the kitchen. “Who was that?”

“The head mistress at the boy’s school in New Haven.”

“Oh,” Holly questioned. “Is everything all right?”

Blake shook her head, “Ross called yesterday to arrange for them to come home for the wedding and apparently that won’t be possible.”

    “What? Why?”

“She feels that pulling the twins out of class so early in the semester could hinder their development…or some mumbo-jumbo…” Blake sighed, “I stopped listening to the old bat after she said no.”

“I’m sorry, I know that you wanted the boys here but you know the head mistress is probably right.”

“I know,” Blake sat down at the kitchen table. “I envisioned this picture perfect wedding with roses and my children, Ross looking dashingly handsome in his tuxedo and you setting there with a smile on your face and Ed walking me down the isle…and slowly but surely those dreams are fading away.”

“Stop it!” Holly demanded, “You make it sound like you’re getting married in the back room of a bar with no one there to witness the event.” They laughed. “You and Ross are going to have the biggest, most lavishly beautiful wedding this town has ever seen, even if you’re boys aren’t there.”

“I’m just so paranoid about everything,” Blake revealed. “I love Ross so much and we have to get it right this time, I just wish I didn’t have the wedding and the Spaulding…” she sighed, “I wish some times Daddy had never left me those damn shares.”

“Well, he did and that’s something that you’re going to have to deal with. Something that you and Ross will have to deal with,” Holly said reaching for her purse. “Come on we have your final gown fitting and I won’t let you be late for that.”

The heat beat down on Marina, Shayne and Lizzie as they made their way across the Springfield University campus. They had just spent the last two and half hours finalizing their fall schedules and talking with their advisors.

“Marina I wish you would reconsider about living on campus,” Lizzie fanned herself with her hand. “We could live together in the suite above Shayne’s, walk to class together and have late night talks just like we did this summer.”

“Even if I wanted to live on campus you already have your roommate assignments…”

“I’m a Spaulding! Granddad would have to make like one phone call and we would be suite mates.”

“Lizzie you know that I would love to live on campus and share a suite with you, but…well my parents just doesn’t have the money for that. Plus, the fact that I live less than ten minutes from campus doesn’t help so it’s just out of the question.” Marina explained as she glanced to Shayne and rolled her eyes.

Shayne wrapped his arm around Lizzie, “Don’t worry Liz the three of us are going to be having late night cram sessions and weekend sleepovers, nothing is going to change.”

“This is the first day of the rest our lives…is that what you’re about to say Shayne?” Marina laughed, “I’ll assume that it was…I have to go meet Kristen Jones at the bookstore, we have Biology together…”

Shayne watched as Marina headed off in one direction and then Lizzie in the opposite direction. Shayne took out his cell phone and dialed Derek’s number with no answer. He leaves a message and then turns to head to the bookstore to find Marina.

“Oh sorry!” Shayne apologized as he collided with someone. “Austin,” he said in an uncomfortable tone. “I didn’t see you there. This heat must have fried my brain.”

“Apparently,” Austin replied. “How was your summer?” He questioned as he looked around the campus in an attempt to escape the awkward situation.

“It’s was okay,” Shayne replied, “Did you have a good summer?”

“Yeah,” Austin said. “Well anyway…I better get going.”

“Oh yeah, sure,” Shayne replied as his mind flashed back to the after graduation party at the lighthouse. “I’ll see you around campus.”

He watched him leave and then Lizzie quickly returned. Lizzie asked what Austin Hollingsworth had to say and Shayne report not much. The two of them head towards the bookstore to find Marina and check out Shayne’s suite.

Hoping to avoid her lackluster prom date, Lizzie hangs back until Austin has left, once he has she approaches Shayne and questions what that was about. Shayne tells her he really doesn’t know, he thought that he and Austin were okay friends but ever since graduation things have been a different…Lizzie says that her dorm was closed and she’s hungry…she suggests a quick bite of food with Marina and then check out Shayne’s dorm!

Hope watches from the Bauer kitchen as Derek takes the phone call on the patio. When Ed arrives they both note how he grew up far to fast, Ed says it seems like yesterday that Mike was bragging to him about another grandson. Hope says they do grow up far to quickly, she notes that it’s been years since Alan-Michael has seen Derek and that she can only hope that things go smoothly.

“What does Derek’s father think of the two of you making Springfield home now?” Ed asked as Derek started playing catch with Robbie outside.

“Trevor doesn’t have a say in my life any longer,” Hope answered. “And as for our son, Derek won’t let him have a say.”

“I can’t imagine that makes for a positive relationship.”

Hope shook her head, “No it doesn’t. But, Derek’s not to blame for that, Trevor is.” She turned her head and sighed heavily, “I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have said anything. You have enough on your mind with Rick, the baby and Holly…I’m gonna…”

Ed’s hand touched her arm, “You’re family and I made a promise to my brother that I would look after you when he left. Hope, if something is bothering you please tell me what it is.”

“There’s a reason why Derek and his father have issues,” Hope began.

“Of course,” Ed replied. “What does that have to do with anything?”

“Uncle Ed,” Hope spoke softly, “you promise not to say anything, especially to Alan-Michael or Daddy?”

    “I do. What’s wrong Hope?”

She shook her head, “Nothing’s wrong…well not for me anyway. Two years ago, Derek was living with Trevor, right after Daddy had his heart attack.”

    “I remember.”

“Well, Derek came out to his father shortly before his senior year of high school.” Hope paused, “Derek’s gay Uncle Ed and I have no problem with that, none what-so-ever. He’s my son and I love him no matter what.”

“But I assume Trevor had a problem with it?”

Hope shook her head yes. “Derek didn’t want to create any additional stress for me so he convinced Trevor to let him study abroad. He was worried I would rejection him just like his father did. When I found out he was in Springfield, I couldn’t not come. “

“I…I don’t know what to say Hope,” Ed admitted.

“Say you’ll keep this to yourself, please. Just knowing that you know…that someone else knows is a relief.” Ed shook his head. “I have a daunting task ahead of me,” Hope realized. “I have to integrate my sons into one another’s lives and work to repair Derek’s relationship with his father.”

“You have my full support, so does Derek. The both of you are family and nothing will ever change that,” Ed assured her. “But, I don’t want you to feel like it’s your job or duty to repair Trevor’s relationship with his son. He caused the trouble, let him fix it Hope.”

Ben sat uncomfortably in a gray cloth chair gazing out a window at the Chicago skyline. He had been sitting in the same chair, in the same office for what seemed like hours when in reality it had only been 30 minutes.

Ben heard the door open behind him and he said nothing as a man dressed in suit and tie took a seat behind the desk, blocking the skyline view. “I apologize for your wait,” he said.

“It’s fine,” Ben answered solemnly. “Is that them.” He pointed at a file on the desk.

“Is there anyone waiting for you in the waiting room? Would you like for them to come join us?”

Ben shook his head, “No. I came alone.”

“I see,” he opened the folder. “Ben, you should really tell someone what’s going on.”

“I will, just as soon as I figure out what is going on.”

The doctor adjusted his reading glasses, “Okay, upfront I will say your parents need to be told as soon as possible. We’re going to need a complete medical history…” the doctor, noticed a look on Ben’s face. “Will that be a problem Mr. Reade?”

“It’s complicated. My mother died several years ago and I don’t have contact with my biological father. Another man adopted men when I was young,” Ben explained.

“It’s time that you find out a lot more about him, Ben. And I wish that you hadn’t waited two and half months to come see me,” he laid his glasses on the desk. “Ben the lump you found is cancerous,” the doctor revealed. “You have stage one testicular cancer.”

Ben sat in shock, he didn’t move and listened for a few moments as the doctor explained that this was a cancer in men between 15-40 and luckily for him was one of the most curable cancers. He concluded with advice to call both his biological and adoptive father to inform them as to what was going on.

Outside the doctor’s office Ben shoved his hands into his pockets and fought back tears of fear! “Get a hold of yourself…” he told himself as he scrolled in his cell phone for a number.

In Springfield, Holly and Blake where finishing up at the boutique, “Just a second,” she whispered to Blake, “Hello.”
“Holly?” He questioned. “It’s Ben can we have dinner tomorrow night?”

“Well sure,” Holly answered. “Ben is something the matter?”

“No, there’s just something I need talk to you about,” he told her.

Tulsa, OK (September 19, 2007) -- October 15th is the day! Executive Producer and Head Writer Josh Hawkins has announced that on the aforementioned date "The Guiding Light" will return with all new episodes, stories and a little twist taken directly from the world of soaps! "It has been trying times in Springfield," the now solo head writer said earlier last week. Trying times indeed, announced a little over a week and half ago, Dan Gobble who joined the writing team in December 2006 as co-head writer stepped down from his post, leaving Hawkins all alone, again.

"I always work well with others when writing. I am the type of writer who should always have a partner and Dan was a very good partner. He kept me grounded on so many stories and would tell me when I crossed a line." The scribe continued, "Dan's stories are still going to be." At the time of Gooble's departure it was rumored that a story was being written, by him, that involved Spaulding Enterprises, Alan-Michael and Blake. "That story will be told, at what point however I'm not certain."

Storyline shifts are no the only changes that are being made. "There are some lose ends that need to be tied up as we progress towards the relaunch date," confirms Hawkins. To that end pink slips were delivered late last week. "It breaks my heart to see these characters go, but it was for the best."

    Who's on their way out?

Grant Show (Trevor) - Jason Shane Scott (Dr. Braxton O'Dell) - Matt Lanter (Derek)

Surprisingly all three male characters were creations of the current head scribe, begging the question why? "I needed to go back to the heart of what "Light" is and that is family. Yes, Derek is a Bauer but we don't know him and for this moment in time, sadly we won't get an opportunity to."

The scribe does hint that there is a possibility Lanter would return to the show. "A chance but right now we're just focusing on the new stories that we'll be telling beginning next month." What does the future hold for Show's on-screen ex-wife and Lanter's on-screen Momma, Julia Barr who represents Hope? "She's still on contract and a valued cast member," Hawkins says with a delightful smile. "Hope will find herself, in typical Bauer fashion, turning to the bottle for comfort once more and from those ashes come something beautiful."

What can readers expect to see when the blog returns to full production in October? "We go back to what soaps are truly about: family, romance & suspence!"

Alan/Olivia/Phillip: "Olivia's return to the canvas allows us to see for the first time her often mentioned, rarely seen sister Marissa. Her divorce from Alan is on the minds of everyone. Having been kicked out of Spaulding for the final time, Phillip soon learns that he holds the trump card and if he uses it Spaulding Enterprise is basically OVER!"

Alexandra/Gus: "Alex has been off licking her wounds, just as her son Gus has been doing." "This was a huge rewrite on my part," Hawkins admits. "I don't want it to fall short or be a story that we've seen already." But Alexandra is who she is and pushes Gus towards the mansion and he'll give it one more try with Harley before he says yes or no."

Ben's Cancer/Marina: "Ben is going through something that men don't talk about, testicular cancer and because of that he'll push Marina away," the scribe confirms. "Because, she is the heart of our show and has such a strong history with Ben, Holly will find herself intertwined with his story. Fletcher will be coming back to Springfield to help Ben cope and get some much needed answers. Look for Reva to find her way into Ben's story through her past with Kyle."

Beth: "Here is a woman who has identified herself as 'Mrs. Phillip Spaulding' or 'Beth Spaulding' for so long that she has to find herself, find who Beth Raines is and that will be a journey that opens up a new career path and brings to the forefront a new love interest for Ms. Raines. Beth will take a dramatic step in an effort to cut all ties to the Spaulding family."

Bill/Michelle: "Bill has two tricks up his sleeve: one bad and one good. Look for both to be exposed over the next coming months. He's a new father with a woman that he's known his entire life, things in this friendship have changed...for the better. A tragedy strikes the Lewis family and impacts Bill in ways that Michelle will never see coming."

Buzz/Harley: "The father/daughter duo are about to find themselves lingering on the backburner for awhile. I feel every character on the canvas should have a story, however at the moment these two will just be sounding boards in very supportive roles."

Marah/Danny: "This couple still find themselves at odds after her departure when Michelle went into labor. Marah sees Danny as the one but he may have another opinion when Michelle continues to catch his eye at every turn. A tragedy that will rock the Lewis family and will serve to be a huge turning point for this couple! Marah is every bit Reva Shayne's daughter and it will become clear through this ordeal that Danny is Marah's "Bud."

Alan-Michael/Lucy/Spaulding Enterprises: "Alan-Michael sees Phillip's departure as the prime opportunity to secure his place in the Spaulding dynasty. Lucy, however is becomes lonely and grows worried that she'll fall into a Stepford wife role if her life continues down the path it is going. Lucy's determine to make a home for Alan-Michael in hopes that the two of them can fall in love all over again!"

Blake/Ross: "Blake enters the business world and it becomes Ross who feel unsecure in their new marriage as she takes a more vital interest in Spaulding and one of her co-workers."

Ed: "The content of Roger's letter is at long last revealed! Ed has put this letter on a shelf and looked at it every single day and thought, 'not today.' But finally he'll open and read Roger's haunting last words. What he finds will spear Ed on a journey through the United States beginning in West Virginia and finally ending in San Francisco. Ed's truly on a journey, even though he fears it is a wild goose chase because Roger sent him on it. He'll learn a lot about what the letter says and himself throughout the trip.

Cassie: "In the wake of yet another tragedy Cassie finds her own life changing all over again as Tammy set off for college away from Springfield. A story was pitched earlier in the year about mirroring a story that "Guiding Light" was telling and pair Josh & Cassie together. That will happen over time...but with very different results!"

Holly: "Holly is our heart and soul! She'll have her hand in the pot of every store and we'll embark on a large tale with her involving the last person anyone would have thought!"

Lewis Tragedy: "An umbrella story that will engulf a lot of the fall months is a tragedy that will shake the Lewis family to their very core! Never before has a story been written that will in one way or another impact everyone from Josh and Reva down the line: Cassie, Billy, Bill, Hawk and even Vanessa Chamberlain Reardon!"

Tulsa, OK (September 20, 2007) -- As the SONBC blog "The Guiding Light" progresses forward to the Fall Relaunch (10/15) comes news that a spinoff from the soap has been green-lighted for production.

"I had an the idea earlier this year about one of our young heroines going into the world of college," explains the scribe. Which heroine it would be was seemed to prove the easiest part of all.

"Effective October 15th, the Emmy nominated Stephanie Gatschet (Tammy) will no longer be a cast member of the soap," confirms Hawkins. Gatschet will instead be seen on the new soap-within-a-soap, "Capitol Diaries."

"Because of Tammy's connections or in this case lack of she made the perfect candidate." Hawkins stated and now is proud to introduce to the fans of "LIGHT" a whole new series that will air weekly beginning in late October.

    Introducing...
The five ensemble cast will see Tammy Winslow (Gatschet) as she struggles with life after Springfield and high school. A freshman at George Washington University Tammy will be working towards a degree in Journalism with a Political focus. Upon her arrival she meets roommate Ashlee Hughbanks (Caitlyn Van Zandt) who will soon become a lifelong friend for Tammy.

"I am a fan of Caitlyn from her work on "GL" so casting her was so easy. Plus it gives us the polar opposite of Gatschet's Tammy and I love the contrast," explains Hawkins.

Tammy will first come in contact with Coop Bradshaw (John Driscoll) at a party in the District. However, it will be a while before Tammy makes the connection between the Cooper family in Springfield and her new love interest. Coop's roommate Taber will find himself the objection of virgin Ashlee's desires as their story continues.

Rounding out the cast is Professor Evan Carter (Emmy award winner Eric McCormick) as a Journalist-turned-professor who also serves as Tammy's councelor. "There is something different about Evan and it will be awhile before we really see a story blossom for him, but it will be there," confirms Hawkins.

"Diaries" is the continuing story of one of "LIGHT'S" most beloved young heroines and her interaction with Springfield will be both seen and heard. Both soaps will happen in the same reality look for Cassie, the Springfield University crowd and the Cooper clan to pop in throughout the series.

Currently "Diaries" is slated to run six months. Catch a peek of the brand new opening set to the beautiful theme of the multiple Emmy award winning drama, "The West Wing."

    BREAKING NEWS:
    Actress Opts to Leave Role

Stillwater, OK (November 5, 2007) -- As "The Guiding Light" prepares for a relaunch this week comes news that veteran actress Laura Wright has opted not to renew her contract with the series.

Negotiations between executives and Wright began early this summer as her contract expired at the end of August. Wright joined "GL" as stripper Cassie Layne in August of 1997.

"It's hard to even consider Laura not apart of this series, however things happen and the show must continue," says executive producer Josh Hawkins.

For a better part of the last year, Wright has been pulling double duty at "TGL" and "Port Charles" where she portrays Carly Corinthos. "It's understandable that Laura would want to continue where she is prominently featured in a leading capacity," Hawkins reasoned.

With negotiations on-going for the last two months, executives actively auditioned and sought out a replacement for the character. "We knew this would was a possiblity and we're making adjustments accordingly," Hawkins continued.

Those actresses included, Cynthia Preston (ex-Faith, GH), Jensen Buchanan (ex-Vicky, AW), Cady McClain (Rosanna, ATWT; ex-Dixie, AMC) and Nicole Forrester.

The actresses tested opposite Robert Newman (Josh) and Kim Zimmer (Reva) and are slated to test with one other actor before a final casting decision is made.

Stay tuned for all the details.

Stillwater, OK (February 03, 2008) -- Ed reads Roger's letter at long last!

    HOT STORY of the WEEK

"There is a huge turning point this week for Ed and the entire Bauer family," smiles executive producer/head writer Josh Hawkins. At long last Dr. Ed Bauer will read the letter that the late Roger Thorpe left him in his will. "I've spent a lot of time thinking of what could have been in that letter," says the scribe.

Episode 087 finds the doctor returning home from Ross and Blake's wedding with only one thing on his mind: the letter. Ed has spent months knowing it was there, putting it off until later and convincing himself that what Roger had to say he does not want to hear.

"Roger has a trick up his sleeve by sending Ed this letter," Hawkins continues. Readers will see some of the letter and Ed's reaction...a trip to Maureen's grave and then on to the airport...Ed leaves Springfield! "He's on a mission to find himself yet again and prove to himself that what Roger says can't be true," he laughs.

    CASTING ROUNDUP

Peter Simon (Dr. Ed Bauer) will be off canvas for the next thirteen episodes, due to storyline related issues. "Ed is a vital and treasured member of our cast," says the executive producer. "His absence is storyline dictated, Ed will be back soon."
Judith Blaze begins her recurring stint as Marissa Spencer-Randall, Olivia's sister. Blaze has been scheduled to appear for three episodes.
As previously reported, Wendy Moniz will be returning as bad girl Dinah Marler at the end of February. Her return will help usher on-screen mother Vanessa back to the canvas.

    CASTING In-DEPTH

Also reported earlier last week, fired "DAYS" actress Martha Madison has signed on to represent at that time an unnamed character. Now insiders with the blog can confirm who Madison will be representing: Jodi Lynne Bradshaw Marshall.

"Jodi was a character I created when I was producing/writing an original soap drama, "ALL OR NOTHING," explains Hawkins. There will be a special character in-depth profile done on the character with biography, past storylines and what will be bringing her to Springfield!
