Maybe she was let go or maybe she pursued nighttime or film, not sure. I did not remember her at all when one night we were watching the debut of a very short-lived FOX sitcom called Women in Prison where my mom i.d.'d her as the first Skye. Her character was a "lipstick lesbian". The gag was that the main character was talking to Antoinette's character, suspecting that CCH Pounder's butch character was one. Antoinette assured her that CCH wasn't then sashayed away to join an awaiting "female friend". Hilarity ensues.

I did not, I had no idea she was on there. I think Marj would add a lot to a sitcom. She could certainly do what someone like Holland Taylor or Susan Sullivan always gets to do in primetime.

That was a wonderful read, I love Marj. She has that effortless, playful wit that lends itself so well to the type of ladies she usually plays. Would love to see that episode of Love Connection!

Yeah, my mom was in high school at the time and a fan of OLTL and AMC from day one. She was the first to clarify the "AMC was NEVER in black and white" thing for me. Yeah, in that Paley episode Victor's being all blustery over Meredith's disappearance and watching, I literally felt the weight of having to retcon this poor old guy in my head. I really need to go watch it again the next time I have the chance, I know a little more now about characters and whatnot to get a better sense of what was going on.

My mom said Gillian was so good as Niki, I wish I would have asked more follow up questions. But I think it's safe to say that her Niki was much more human, like Slezak's eighties Niki. I've only seen that one episode of Gillian as Viki, and she was very reserved. I wouldn't say "cold" by any means, but at the risk of offending our British friends, kind of "English". Imagine how the Queen would play a stressful hospital situation. Emotion and even warmth there, yet rather contained.

Oh wow, okay, I HAVE seen that one, about a month ago on Antenna TV. I didn't make the connection. That's a show I only caught bits and pieces of as a kid when I'd be at my cousin's, it aired on USA iirc. Same with Flying Nun and Gidget, shows I have never sought out but since my TV pretty much lives on Antenna TV these days...

Eric, interestingly enough, i also think of The Partridge Family whenever Season Hubley's name is mentioned. Years ago on The Rosie O'Donnell Show, she was brain farting over an actress from a particular episode, and Season was in her short list of possibilities. I had never heard that name beyond AMC. Her research team finally found the clip, it wasn't Season, but Rosie made funny commentary on Shirley falling up the side of the mountain the family was climbing in the clip.

Bethel Leslie. I don't think she originated the role back in the seventies. I was just doing some Googling and I didn't realize Lee Chapin was another character brought back. They really did their homework! http://www.oocities.org/historypg/tranethel.html http://www.oocities.org/historypg/tranlee.html

One Life to Live Tribute Thread
When I first really got into OLTL during the Lord o the Banner/DID era, I asked my mom a bunch of questions about Dorian as she quickly became my favorite character. She remarked that the first Dorian dressed kind of frumpy/dowdy and wasn't quite the glamorpuss we knew Robin's Dorian to be. I found this interesting when I eventually read an interview where Robin said that she was responsible for that aesthetic change in the character. I talked about this a few years ago on WoST, and a poster who had actually been around during those years like my mom added that the glam factor wouldn't have exactly been an in character/period appropriate choice for a professional woman in the seventies, let alone a doctor, which I thought was a valid point. Even though Robin's Dorian predates Dynasty, I think that show had a huge impact on professional women and young girls who wanted to make something of themselves; women and girls who valued glamor, and the idea of glamor in the work place. Was Claire Malis' big story the triangle with peter and Melinda? And to what degree was Melinda the "baddie" in that threesome opposed to Dorian, or was Dorian still the heavy, Melinda merely "disturbed"? I know they were trying to soften Dorian during this time, hence the recast to begin with. We Love Soaps should do a Claire Malis interview.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Vaseline commercial. Thanks for sharing this Carl! You kinda have to look away and let your eyes roll back into place every few minutes. I wonder if Russell played the actual crash then they switched back to Todd for the first hospital scenes. At least that's how I would have done it. Russell Todd Curtis, just got that.

Yeah, the Italian opening and closing themes were so much sleeker and sexier, I guess because the show was shown in primtime, and well, in Italy. The original themes did feel more political/stately.

I liked the second Brian, he was just a kinder and gentler Brian. In hindsight, I can see how some might think Brian lost his edge, and his ethnic quality for that matter. I'm not surprised by MB's ego in sight of his more recent comments. Maybe I sensed that which is why I didn't mind the recast?
