One of the funniest lines I remember from AMC is from when Edmund "fake-kidnapped" Erica and they had just completed a frantic phone call where Erica pleaded with Dimitri (?) to come save her. After the hang-up, Edmund says to Erica, "With a performance like that, you deserve an Oscar."

La Lucci replies, "I'd settle for an Emmy." 😆😆

Yes, it is gratifying to see Biden and Pelosi stand up to the trash.  How sad is it, though, we have to single them out and commend them for behavior or attitudes that should be the norm?

We (and by "we," of course, I mean those of us on the left) should have been standing up to/shouting down the right all along.  We should have followed the lead of none other than the late Sen. John McCain, who (in)famously took away a microphone at a campaign appearance from a woman (and likely Trump voter) who was so concerned about his then-opponent, Barack Obama, because she'd heard he was "an Arab."  McCain didn't cuss her out or anything; he just told her, in so many words, to have a seat!

It's just like when I was in school, and I was being bullied constantly by classmates, and all the adults could say was, "Ignore them, and they'll leave you alone."  Well, I tried taking that high road.  I ignored them, believing that, by not coming down to their level, I was winning.  But do ya think they left me alone?  In the end, the only way I made my bullies leave me alone was to stand, and to fight.  Otherwise, I knew I'd never stand a chance of surviving.

Democrats need to stop "going high," because all that's done is guarantee us another four years of President [!@#$%^&*] Trump.  Between the GOP's hypocrisy and our own, stubborn refusal to turn the fingers of blame back on them with this Purity Olympics b.s., we've lost true fighters like Al Franken, who had a real chance of stopping that man in his tracks way before now.  Moreover, people who might have voted Democrat in this and the last election won't, because, in "going high," we've made ourselves look weak at best, out-of-touch at worst, and unappealing to them either way.

Democrats need to stop being polite, and Start. Getting. Real.

    True story.

Eva La Rue read for Gloria Marsh & Kendall Hart before being offered Maria Santos without an audition. The role of Maria was to be recurring but ABC offered Eva a contract to play Maria in 1993.

This is interesting, because another actress very briefly played Maria prior to Eva LaRue. She was Trevor's doctor.

Disagree. He won on racism the first time and he's simply doubling down on a winning strategy.

Sorry. I don't mean to be a downer. I'm just not feeling very good about what I'm seeing play out on the left right now. I feel like no lessons have been learned. Epstein gets arrested so Trump tweets about "the squad." Suddenly the conversation pivots. We get a bipartisan report saying Russia is attacking us so he tweets about Cummings and conversation gets hijacked again. He uses this to pull attention away from subjects that are less favorable to him and that non-MAGA voters would have real issues with. I see a left that still doesn't realize how its own self-righteousness is being weaponized and it scares me. Throw in a facile arrogant press that feels like its job is to offer color commentary instead of facts and I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that Trump dies right before the election.

    +1

For his next trick, he's going to close his eyes and proclaim, "You can't see me," so the press and his base will question, "Where'd he go?"

Eyes are wider open than you think in this sadistic game of peek-a-boo. You all are trying to "logic" a game of feelings. (sic)

  5. I was headed home from work, thinking I might catch the last 15 minutes of the ceremony. While waiting at a traffic light, something inside me said, "This is her night. You better get home."

    Sure enough.

A very emotional moment; this is what awards shows are supposed to do.

And I agree, Daytime Emmys started racing downhill after that.

I believe her competition that year was Erika Slezak and the DID story. One good scene couldn't compete with the work Slezak was putting out.

I think that was one of Lucci's problems in trying to get that Emmy. She always had her "scene." I could even smell it coming. He**, I probably smelled it when I saw WOTY too. ;) But she never got the storyline to see it through to a win.

Until she did...and even though I had a feeling that year; it was more about competition than Lucci's actual work.

Yes!! My part is “Isn’t that true Maria? SAINT Maria of Wildwind, tending to the sick in her push up bra. Always ready to relieve SUFFERING as long as the suffering isn’t MINE. And that brings me to my so called husband.”

I get my life every time !!

Twitter would have a field day. I’m determined.

So Much can be said about this scene. AMC at its finest and in probably its last good era.

The beauty of the scene is how layered it is. Not only are we watching the interweaving of several "current" storylines in her speech, but you are also watching some deep cracks in the history of the character of Erica Kane emerge and be exposed to the light. Lucci is laying it bare; all of the subtext, the nuance. And on top of it...she's high as a kite. "Hold my hand...I'll catch you." So much more than Dmitri and the scaffolding there. Why Lucci didn't win the Emmy for this scene alone is beyond me...it spoke volumes about her ability to inhabit this character.

And the whole gang is there, even Enid Nelson and Marian Colby, because Broderick was attempt to reinstate the "community" of Pine Valley. Broderick was head writing the show then, but do we know who actually wrote this wonderful "scene?"

    Serviceable

  9. I couldn't agree more. This episode was miles away better than last week. Although it is fun to have different combinations of the Fab Four in storylines, the season should've kicked off with everyone on the same page...hunting for Karen.

Love Karen's insta-bond with Linda. And I always appreciate appearances by Smitty and Anastasia!

Nice nod with the belly touch on the shower door.

  10. The introduction of Wildwind in the early 90s really opened up the canvas in the same way I imagine Cortlandt manor did in the late 70s/early 80s.

It's so funny...apparently these big estates existed in Pine Valley but no one ever discussed the Cortlandts or Merricks prior to. ;)

Well, I know I've said on at least one occasion that I thought Stormygate, and not Russia, could be his undoing.  But I consider Susan McDougal kind of a side plot, spun off from Stormygate -- which, in and of itself, could prove to be part of the Proteus-like umbrella story that is Russia.  #itallconnects

If ONLY someone would rip off his toupee, and we all discover a heavy-breathing Marj Dusay underneath...then we could all go back to French fries at McKay's and Thanksgivings at the Valley Inn.

Wait a minute -- I'm not advocating for another 9/11-like catastrophe.  If I'm coming across that way, I apologize.  However, it is my firm conviction that this tribalism existing between the left and right -- something that, IMO, has its roots in post-9/11 uncertainty and outright hatred toward Muslims -- has more than a little bit to do with everything that's unfolding before our very eyes; and that it's gonna take another, similar tragedy -- or so it seems, to me -- before we, as a nation, get to the end of the movie, where we join Billie Jean in burning the merchandise that Hubie Pyatt's dad's been selling.

I just don't see any other way.

    :lol::lol: My people.

    "Fair is fair!"

  13. I'll agree that the on again/off again scheduling did not sustain any momentum. And the nadir of the season was the first two episodes back. The show worked best in the first few seasons before the guest star parade and before the characters had become cartoon-y. The last installment, with Jack guesting on Shades of Blue, felt more like classic W&G to me, and has been one of my favorite episodes of the season.
