Yes, those are the changes I was thinking of and it certainly seems drastic to me. I am reminded of the beginning of the passage about the pressure-cooker atmosphere of soaps. Hyatt, W. (1997). The Encyclopedia of Daytime Television. Billboard Books.

Well, people speak of soaps reinventing themselves all the time as one factor in their long history, as a part of their resilience. But that doesn't mean they're talking about changing the roster of characters necessarily. Although I would suggest that is what Agnes Nixon did at AW.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
Yes, definitely there are issues & music rights is a major one. That is said to be the hold up on streaming Knots Landing, China Beach & Moonlighting to name 3 that are on the "wanted" list. If you watched China Beach, I mean the music was practically a character. What B&B is doing is very interesting. I'm not sure I understand how they are justifying the cost of digitizing, curating the collection, etc. But, then my next question is how available is YouTube internationally & I think it is very.

Sarcasm is one of the hardest things to detect in text only. Some suggest using "/s" at the end of a post to denote sarcasm. I have graphic images I use. I know that both Larkin Molloy and Lisa Brown were employed by soaps as acting coaches. I'm not aware of actors being resentful of working with acting coaches. If they are, they shouldn't be. I am not being sarcastic.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
I don't know that anyone thinks it is a new idea. I certainly do not. I've tracked it & been interested in it for a great many years. Typically at the beginning of any new thing, there are failures. However, this does not necessarily mean that will continue. I mean if you look at the early years of televised soaps, the failure rate is simply staggering. If they'd quit then, they'd never have been the huge profit makers they became.

I completely agree. As far as I go, Jacqueline Courtney was Alice & no one else ever measured up. I'm not saying that there wasn't a theoretical other person who could have played her. I just don't think they found that person. As a general rule I believe that any part can be recast, but not all parts should be.

Perhaps I did not make myself clear. I revere Pete & count him among my favorite writers. However, I completely disagree with his firing of JC & that is because she was acting. Everyone else could see that she was acting, practicing her craft. To me that says that the style of acting she was doing was not what he wanted. And, that matters. It does pertain. That is why my suggestion would have been an acting coach. As far as Victoria leaving, she tried to when they fired Charles. But, no, I don't think anything else would have sent her out the door. She had too much invested in the show.

I have nothing to say to this because I am a critic of Rauch & previously named a handful of good things about him. Simply have no more. If I think, and I do, that he was right to fire George Reinholt, and others think he was wrong to, that is simply people in good faith disagreeing, which is right & natural.

ALL: The niche potential for streaming classic soaps
Well, for one example Prospect Park failed miserably with their online reboots of current AMC & OLTL, different but because they were current not classic but there's no reason to think that their failure was for lack of audience. There was ample evidence that they failed because they had no idea how to produce soaps & pretty much did everything wrong that anyone could think of. SOAPnet had great fan interest with both Ryan's Hope and Another World. I'm not convinced that original content like Soap Talk are what a classic fan is looking for. And, SOAPnet lost many eyeballs when they began to run things like One Tree Hill. Right now B&B has its OG episodes up on its own YouTube channel. Both GH and Y&R have some classic years up beginning with 2018. Neighbours has both classic & current episodes streaming. Dark Shadows is up & has been up. Also Dallas & Dynasty. Knots Landing is on the list of top 10 shows fans say they want. BITD USA ran EON & SFT classic episodes. And, when Generations went off the air BET reran it several times through its run. This summer Stephen King was on twitter trying to find out how he could watch EON. Everywhere online fans say they would watch classic soaps if they were on some channel where they could easily access them. I think Retro TV, for example, did not fit the ease of access factor.

Thank God for small favors! Thanks, Paul, at least you & I can see that an acting coach might have made some sense! And, I agree that JC would have been more than delighted. I do not know if they were in the habit of using acting coaches then, but if they didn't, they should have!

My goodness, I certainly do not agree with your take on this but I wonder if you are aware of all that was written, said, documented, etc. about Reinholt's behavior that pushed Rauch to the point of having to take action when Reinholt would not take anyone's direction about his being disruptive to cast & crew alike. Believe me, I am not at all accustomed to being a defender of Paul Rauch but he did do some things right. To name a few, firing Reinholt, this example of a special Steve/Alice episode, trying to keep CBS from making GL do the clone storyline & fighting tooth & nail for his shows. When he died, even though he was retired he was putting parties together to try to find a new venue for GL.

We shall just have to agree to disagree because this is not at all my understanding of the situation. I believe Pete's account of Dwyer refusing to learn her lines & insisting that she knew what Mary would think & say in each circumstance. And, while I do not agree with Pete that JC could not act I do understand that he was not getting what he wanted out of her acting which is why to my way of thinking an acting coach would have been the appropriate action to take. And, popularity polls have nothing necessarily to do with whether a writer is getting what they are after in scenes. Well, it's very interesting that I had already sent everything to Eddie that you felt the need to duplicate that by sending to Mike. Boy, I do not get anything remotely like that out of reading his book. Interpretation can be a very interesting thing.

It is hilarious that the mechanical censor missed something so obvious but pounced on other repeated words! Just yesterday I had a FB mechanical censor offer me the opportunity to edit or delete my post rather than face possible consequences. I had posted that I love Greg Rikaart but want to kill Leo Stark! I wonder if I inserted the words "fictional character" if it would go through.

I think it is more than a little bit interesting that Disney owns Santa Barbara, Ryan's Hope, AMC, OLTL, GH, ... am I leaving anything out? Yes, I am. PC & GH: Night Shift. They could set up one unit to digitize & decide how to package & market a classic soaps hub! AMC & OLTL are both supposedly missing 5 seasons that were lost in the same warehouse fire but other than that they have every episode of 7 soaps. Of course GH is both current and classic, so it might require different treatment. But, even if GH were taken out, 6 soaps is substantial!

Point taken! I predict there's gonna be another Molly & we're gonna like this one. What the heck are we gonna call her, though? PneuMolly? NextMolly? GotItRightFinallyMolly? ThanksFrankMolly? Yeah, I will have to eat my hat if we call her Haley. I know! Summer is finally done, right? FallMolly! I was told two conflicting things that may be of interest. 1. Nicholas was supposed to be gone doing that movie & that movie schedule changed & they had to write him back into story. (And we can all say how lousy they did that job.) 2. No way was that movie ready to shoot.

I also enjoyed it. Did today as well. Although I hoped this wasn't going to happen but Johnny & Chanel are already bothering me. It's just a bit much for her to be pouring it on so thick. Oh, yeah, sure, she never stopped loving him & he is all she wants, so much repetition & reassurance from her, it just makes me wonder if she plays games, if she is hypocritical or maybe even if she loves people being in love with her. And the reassurance alone amazes me because her POV when Allie was insecure was that it should be enough for Allie that she picked her. Anyway, I will keep on trying to like them.

Did y'all hear about yesterday's oddity with Hulu? They presented Mar. 22, 2022 as the new episode. I talked to them & they said it was an issue between them & GH & they hoped to have it cleared up sometime today. I just laughed. I mean weird.

I was thinking about this. If Paul came out of the booth & usurped the director, which is what it sounds like, Pete may have been uninvolved. But, maybe it's just me but I don't think of them being personally hostile to GR & JC & Virginia Dwyer. As I understand it the firings were for cause. Now, George's reprehensible behavior went on all the time so that could have been an issue. And, JC the only problem was that Pete did not feel she could act. I wish I could turn back time & put her with an acting coach to change her style to whatever Pete wanted to hear & see!

Absolutely fabulous!! Okay, now Eddie has another ask. Where did this come from: In a magazine article later on, Jacquie Courtney said that Rauch also made the decision to tape the dress rehearsal, which she appreciated. She said, "I don't think I could have mustered up all that emotion a second time!"
