  1. I'm not a Richonne shipper but that was a nice earned moment. I usually quit shows once the leads hookup. House, Bones, Castle, are all shows I abandoned due to shipping but I think I'll stick around. I think the only thing that would make the fanbase happier is when Daryl finally gets his nasty self into a shower.
  2. I despised Bush as a politician but never really as a person. He was weak and not too bright but I don't think of him as morally bankrupt like I do Cheney, Rumsfeld, and/or the dearly departed Scalia. I can think of several times he managed to break through my brittle little shell for a minute or two: that weird moment when he was touring Africa and started dancing on stage, his quick reflexes when that shoe came at him, but especially the photos I saw of him at his daughter's weddings. Plus I've always adored Laura Bush. If you like her I recommend watching the video the Bushes did for the Ice Bucket Challenge. She's got a flair for comedy. Not just unions. There's a bunch of politically motivated cases on the docket that conservatives basically engineered so that the conservative SCOTUS cabal could destroy them: the contraception mandate, challenges to Obama immigration actions, a Texas redistricting case, etc... a lot of them will be dead in the water. This also might mean that Former Gov. Bob McDonnell might finally have to serve his time because he was appealing his case to the SCOTUS. As far as I'm concerned, the GOP can drag their feet on confirmation as long as they want.
  3. This is one show where romantic entanglements never cross my mind. Mainly because half the time these people have gone weeks without showering and just imagining the smell of them plus what by now has the be the omnipresent scent of decomp in the air shuts down my willingness to even imagine sex in the ZA. I'm not a Richonne shipper but I do love how she has basically become Carl and Judith's mother. The way she started clearing a path when Carl got shot, her kissing his forehead while he laid on the table, the sweet, loving, slightly desperate way she held Judith, all really got to me. (Remember when she could barely stand to be near Judith?) I don't know how much of it is direction vs. how much is DG's acting choices but it's wonderful to watch. I'm a viewer who loves shows about families of choice so I'm completely here for Mama Bear Michonne being a co-parent with Rick but I have no real interest in seeing them enter a relationship.
  4. Lazy and sloppy is pretty much the definition of Marco Rubio.
  5. I was thrilled to see Sam and Ron go but I was a little sad to see Jessie got with them. She kind of grew on me because she was one of the few Alexandrians to step up and realize that she needed to toughen up. I would've been okay with seeing what would happen to her if she'd been forced to go on after the death of her odious children. I found Jessie's death interesting in the fact that she seemed to just give in to it.
  6. Preach. LOL! Nails on a chalkboard to me.
  7. It was also the name of the spy organization on "Archer." It stood for International Secret Intelligent Service. After four seasons, the show had to come up with an excuse to change the name. It's ridiculous. Although I admit part of my issue is that when I was in the Girl Scouts I knew a little girl named Isis. I can't imagine what that woman's life has been like for the last few years. Personally, I prefer the term Daesh because apparently the group hates that name. It's like using the the term "teabagger" for members of the tea party.
  8. That's the way I feel about the way Obama pronounces "Pakistan" or says "ISIL" instead of "ISIS." I'm always insanely grateful when politicians don't play dumb for political points. I hate when he calls it Isis is just catchier and uniformly accepted, so why try and push Isil? A google search of Isis shows CNN calls it than, the NY Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian...these aren't bumpkin news outlets. Not sure what you guys mean with the correct way to pronounce Muslim. I pronounce it like Does-Lim. I gather that is not correct from this discussion. I prefer ISIL or Daesh because Isis is also the name of an Egyptian goddess and, not coincidentally, of actual people who now get a lot of unnecessary drama from ignorant people.

  10. I wish that Bernie would spend less time with Al Sharpton and more with Charles Blow. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/11/opinion/campaign-stops/stop-bernie-splaining-to-black-voters.html
  11. Both Christie and Fiorina dropping out on the same day? Perfection.
  12. When you said this I thought he was just doing a campaign visit. I didn't realize he was meeting with Al Sharpton. Ugh. Unfortunately that's the reality with the current generation. The young women don't know what it's like to not be able to get a credit card on their own or need men to co-sign a mortgage. They don't know what it's like to simply not be able to get an abortion. They take these things for granted. The same was true for young black people until recently but I think seeing the reaction to Obama's election woke a lot of them up. It's the irony of having made great strides that the people who benefit most from them don't recognize them as such. I do wish we could get away from talking about Hillary in terms of her gender. I'm not supporting her because she's a woman just like I'm not disgusted with Bernie because he's a man. I'm judging them on their words and actions and on who I think can get more done. It's interesting that Ted Nugent has gone anti-Semitic. I think we'll see more of that the longer Bernie stays in the race. I'm dreading a whole "blacks vs. jews" thing.
  13. What did Rachel do? She just did what seems to be a very thoughtful interview with Hillary. (Disclaimer: I haven't watched the whole thing so maybe it went south at some point.) It will be interesting to see what happens when the blacks and browns get to start voting. If it goes the way I suspect, it will be interesting to see the Berniacs add racism to their rampant online misogyny. We already got a taste of it when the BLM activists interrupted his speech. That's when we started seeing a lot of that "why don't the coloreds realize how great he is?" condescension.
  14. I'm torn. He's my governor and I'm more than happy to keep his sorry carcass out of the state but I'm sick of Ohio taxpayers footing the bill for his security. http://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/2016/02/09/travel-fund-john-kasich-security-tops-350k/80048046/
  15. My background is in the Unity church but I have no problem with atheism. It makes perfect sense. I'm just not ready to give up the part of myself that believes in miracles but that's a personal thing. That said, I fervently wish our society, and especially our politics, could mature to the point where we stopped looking at religiosity as a necessary quality. I'm not talking about personal faith. I'm referring to the theatre of religion. To me it's the difference between Jimmy Carter and Ted Cruz. Jimmy Carter uses his faith to build houses and eradicate the guinea worm while Ted Cruz goes to Flint and gives bottled water to anti-abortion groups. On another subject, It's nice to see that we've finally had some folks drop out since Iowa. We've lost O'Malley, Rand Paul and Santorum and yet for some reason Jim Gilmore is still hanging on.
  16. Thanks for that explanation. I have to admit that the politics re: Cuba aren't something I've paid a lot of attention to so I've found the conversation around this situation confusing.
  17. They aren't representative of the country either. Iowa and New Hampshire have basically turned into irrelevant freak shows. I've gotten to the point where I consider any race before super Tuesday to be a dress rehearsal.
  18. You see much more love for Rubio than I do. He's basically an afterthought.
  19. I feel like this has become a liberal dog whistle. I'm supposed to punish Hillary for knowing her value and setting her price. I suspect a lot of people who say this would be shocked to learn what some people charge to speak. The irony is that after this is all over Bernie will be able to charge a lot to speak too. I was glad when Bernie entered the race. I liked seeing Hillary pushed to the left and I was happy that he was going to keep the issue of income inequality front and center. But let's be clear, Bernie is not the ONLY one addressing it. Both Clinton and O'Malley have spoken at length about income inequality. The topic is Bernie's bread and butter but he's not the only one talking about it. But his reaction to Planned Parenthood is a good example of why I don't want him in the White House. Bottom line is I don't think that Bernie would make a very good President both for reasons of temperament and objective reality. It's not like the opposition Obama's gotten will suddenly vanish if Bernie wins. He's an old Jewish "socialist." It's not like the GOP will suddenly decide to work with him just because he's white. For him to get anything accomplished, he'd not only have to win but we'd have to decisively swing both houses of Congress. That's not going to happen. Hillary knows where some bodies are buried and she could get some [!@#$%^&*] accomplished plus...yes I'mma say it: Having Bill back in the White House would be good. If not for politics, at least for pop culture. This piece does a good job of demonstrating why I prefer Clinton to Sanders.
  20. Not that I think we need more candidates in this race but I'd be fascinated to see the utter meltdown the NRA would have if he threw his hat in the race. They like to claim Obama is "coming for your guns" but that claim is completely true for Bloomberg.
  21. See that's another thing. I don't understand the freakout about Hillary's speaking fees. I've done event planning. Do people think someone like Clinton speaks for free? Besides, most of her fees go to the Clinton Foundation. If Bernie doesn't even understand the concept that getting paid to speak isn't new then I have to wonder what kind of cave he's been living in. I used to really like Bernie. I was a big fan of his after his filibuster but now I can't stand the guy and a lot of that is because of his supporters who seem to have no problem indulging in misogyny and racism almost as easily as Trump's while somehow being just as clueless as the old Ron Paul fans.
  22. Personally Bernie's behavior toward Planned Parenthood just proves to me that they made a good decision in not endorsing him. I'm getting very tired of people throwing around the word "establishment" like a slur.
  23. I've seen a lot of that. I keep reminding those people that by voting for Trump they would be voting for someone who is the exact opposite of Sanders. But these are shiny objects voters. They are the ones who don't show up during the midterms or for off year elections and then when someone like Trump, Sanders or Ron Paul breaks through their ignorance or apathy, they proceed to scream at those of us who actually pay attention.
  24. It's amazing that even Lark Voorhies' crazy ass can see Cosby for a rapist but Eddie Griffin can't.
  25. Somebody has decided that social media is his friend.
