  1. Thanks for the Jensen update. I have always wondered why we've not seen her on an ep here and there in primetime or a movie-of-the-week on Lifetime/Hallmark. By the sounds of it, it isn't like she needs the money. tongue.png

LOL- it definitely looks like she's doing just fine.

Here's a recent photo of Rosa Nevin (Cecily from All My Children) from late 2011- she's apparently doing a lot of theater in Chicago:

    dtcommonstreamsStreamServer.jpg

  2. It was definitely controversial- one of my work colleagues from New Zealand loves Shortland Street and was complaining about it even though I don't think the episodes have even aired in Australia yet (we're at June 2010 right now I think).

  3. I had heard of Dusty, but mostly in the context of her relationship with Steve (didn't they bring her back for that story). Who were Joey and Kyle?

Egoli is one of those shows I always want to see more of, especially strange stories like taking the show's stable gay couple and having one of them become a bisexual sociopath (sadly that seems to be all you get on TV for bisexuals).

The "human" aspect of Generations is a good word for it. There's a certain everyday quality, seeing people talking at home and at work, longtime friendships and relationships which we can intuit instead of being beat over the head with. I also like the inclusion of characters American soaps would dub "boring," like Ajax's brother, Ntombi's brother, and the old man who runs the apartment building.

Egoli was definitely always my favourite of the three when I was younger (Binnelanders and Villa Rosa came on the air later). I loved the American soap operas like GH (which they didn't get in South Africa), AMC, OLTL, and B&B and Egoli felt closer to those shows than the other two. At the time, I remember thinking Generations moved so slow lol. Plus, my mother liked Egoli so she would always have it on.

I think the actress who played Letti had HIV in real life too- I wasn't living in South Africa at the time, but I think my grandmother or cousin told me that.

Dusty did come back for that story- did they leave together? I know she came back, they got engaged and then she left again, but I can't remember if he left with her or not.

Joey and Kyle were brother and sister (Joey was the girl)- there was a huge mystery about them when they first showed up and she was pretending to be a journalists but it turns out she wasn't or something (I've forgotten all the details of when they first arrived lol). She then dated Leon and Kyle got involved with Lolly.

  4. Quick question- I have a bunch of AMC stuff that I just converted and even though I'll put everything up that I have (I still haven't gotten everything converted yet so I'm not even sure what all I have), since it takes me a while to get stuff converted, edited, and uploaded, I thought I'd see what people would be the most interested in first and go ahead and get that up and then work on the rest

Right now, I have the following stuff converted and ready to be edited and uploaded: a ton of 1990/1991 stuff with Donna, Chuck, Emily Ann, Dixie and Tad, Billy Clyde and stuff from 1993 with Laurel, Jack, Trevor, Kendall & Anton

  5. Jensen Buchanan is apparently divorced from the husband she was living in Vermont with and is now married to Sam Gores (the CEO of Paradigm Talent Agency) and living in Beverly Hills.

Here's an article about them purchasing their house in Beverly Hills (it's below the stuff about Kelsey Grammer):

Here's an article about her current husband:

This is the most recent photo I could find of her:

  6. A few more things about AMC's 25th Anniversary:

From the January 15th, 1995 Los Angeles Times:

Unrepenting addicts of "All My Children" may find it hard to believe that a quarter century has passed since Phil Brent went missing in action in Vietnam. And those fans who followed his return to Pine Valley and felt his pain when he discovered Tara had married another, will relive that pain--with no small amount of nostalgia--on Sunday night.

ABC is airing "The All My Children 25th Anniversary Special," a retrospective of memorable story lines and popular characters that interweaves clips with reminiscences by past and present cast members, as well as fans. It is hosted by longtime devotee Carol Burnett, who has made three appearances on the soap.

Agnes Nixon, creator of "The Kids," stands by a motto that dates to the vaudeville era: "Make them laugh, make them cry, make them wait." Her philosophy has certainly paid off. On Jan. 5, the serial officially marked 25 years of keeping viewers glued to the goings-on in the lives of the Martins, Kanes, Tylers, Chandlers and other residents of Pine Valley, a fictional town in the Northeast. Generally rated second among the 10 daytime soaps, the show is No. 1 among the 18- to 49-year-old female demographic that advertisers so covet, and it counts males as 40% of its audience.

The show's longevity still "amazes" Nixon, who also created ABC's 27-year-old serial "One Life to Live." "I can't believe it--I thought about staying on the air 13 weeks!" she says with a laugh. When she wrote the original story line "bible" for the soap, she also could not envision the impact one particular character would have: the scheming yet vulnerable, much married but always looking for love Erica Kane, played by Susan Lucci.

"I think most writers write what interests them," Nixon says. "Erica afforded me, aside from her own character's foibles, a great plot generator, with (Erica's mother) Mona and (Mona's friend) Nick."

Lucci, who began playing Erica when her alter ego was a 14-year-old high school student, calls her "a character full of wonderful things. I've had a wonderful time playing her, and I'm still doing it because I love her. I really do."

The actress' favorite memories include glamorous modeling sequences, and a 13-page food fight between herself and David Canary as Adam Chandler, which required a day's work. On the other end of the emotions scale, when Frances Heflin, who played Erica's exasperated mother ("Oh, Erica, how could you?" was uttered time and again) died last year, Erica had to deal with Mona's passing.

"It was very gratifying to see how the audience related to that," Lucci says. "Erica came to terms with how much she loved Mona."

Through the years, Pine Valley nurse Ruth Martin (Mary Fickett), and devoted doctor-husband Joe have been the bedrocks of stability in town. "There has to be some core around which other people disintegrate and come together again," Fickett says. "If the place were in chaos all the time, you wouldn't have some place to bounce off of. They've had problems--Ruth was raped, and she had an affair--but viewers want to believe that there is a core."

The fact that even the virtuous Ruth was not immune from life dilemmas underscores Nixon's penchant for dramatizing social concerns. Fickett won her Emmy after her character, whose son was missing in action in Vietnam, delivered an anti-war speech. Other issues dealt with on the soap: abortion, prostitution, alcoholism, AIDS, mistreatment of the elderly, diabetes and blindness, racism and incest.

"I feel we have an obligation to inform," Nixon says, as well as to entertain.

Certainly one fan who knows entertainment when she sees it is "Anniversary Special" host Carol Burnett, who has been addicted to the soap since the mid-1970s. After getting a bit role as a patient in 1976, she returned in 1983 for a two-week stint as Verla Grubbs, long-lost daughter of Langley Wallingford--during which she was surprised by her friend Elizabeth Taylor, in a walk-on role. Burnett reprised Grubbs during the anniversary shows this month.

What does Burnett feel is the key to the show's longevity? "They touch on a lot of serious things and they do it beautifully. It keeps up with the times."

From the December 8th, 1994 Los Angeles Times:

Company's Coming: Expecting visitors? It might not compare with the

reunion Ruth and Joe Martin will have next month. And they don't even

know about it. Nineteen [!] friends and relatives will make a surprise

return to Pine Valley to celebrate the rebuilding of the Martins' home,

which was leveled by a tornado last summer. The 19 are former cast members

of ABC's daytime drama 'All My Children' who will reprise their roles to

mark the serial's 25th anniversary, Jan. 3-6. Ruth and Joe are played

by original cast members Mary Fickett and Ray McDonnell. Also finding

her way to Pine Valley for the anniversary: Carol Burnett.

    From America Online news:

Nineteen former cast members will reprise their roles

and come home to Pine Valley, as part of a week of special episodes, to

join the Martins as they celebrate the rebuilding of their home. The

    shows will air January 3-6.

Some of the favorites coming back include: Gillian Spencer

(Daisy Cortlandt), Taylor Miller (Nina Cortlandt Warner), William Mooney

(Paul Martin), Charles Frank (Jeff Martin), Michael Brainard (Joey

Martin), Richard Van Vleet (Chuck Tyler), Candice Earley (Donna Beck

Tyler), Lawrence Keith (Nick Davis), Peter White (Lincoln Tyler),

Francesca James (Kelly Cole Tyler), Kathleen Noone (Ellen Dalton), Mark

La Mura (Mark Dalton), Vasili Bogazianos (Benny Sago), Jennifer Bassey

(Marion Colby), Natalie Ross (Enid Nelson), Lisa Wilkinson (Nancy Grant),

Shari Headley (Mimi Reed), Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard), and Lee

    Chamberlain (Pat Baxter).

In the storyline, these old friends return to surprise Ruth and Joe Martin

(did you know that Mary Fickett and Ray MacDonnell are original cast

members?) in their newly rebuilt home. Remember when the tornado came to

Pine Valley and leveled their house? Well, now these old friends and

family members will gather to share their memories from years gone by.

The show will also use rarely seen historical footage.

I wonder what happened with Debbi Morgan's appearance? It seems like her not appearing in the episode was a last minute thing.

  7. Those scenes with Gabrielle are just devastating to watch. Such quiet pain. I'm amazed they even got on the air. I can't believe that the show's way to resolve this was her being killed in a toilet.

Ugh, I know. One of the worst and most tasteless exits ever.

  8. I had a desire to watch the final scene to the song "In this life," but I cannot find it on youtube anymore.

I posted the final episode on youtube but I had to cut that part out because of copyright issues sad.png and the song being blocked in several countries.

  9. Which of the characters at that time had been around for a long period? I know Harriet, Parsons, Napethne (?), Letti, Barker, Len, had all been around for quite a while.

It's fascinating to me, contrasting Generations and Isidingo. Generations feels so much like an old school American soap to me - it is far from perfect, but it reminds me of what I used to love with GL and ATWT.

All of those have been around a while, and so has Cherel (although I think she left for a bit and then came back). I didn't know that Letti had left

I haven't seen it in a few years (we don't get it in Australia) but I always liked Harriet, Cherel, Letti, Dusty, Joey, and Kyle (the last three have been long gone so you might not be as familiar with them as you probably are the other three).

It's funny that you say Generations reminds you of As the World Turns because my grandmother looooves Generations (and Eastenders) and loved As The World Turns and Another World, but doesn't like Isidingo or DAYS and didn't like Egoli- she says she likes the "human" aspect of Generations and ATWT as opposed to the "campy and ridiculousness" of something like DAYS.

I actually found a tape the other day that had a bunch of Isidingo, Generations, and Egoli on it. I'll try to get that up on youtube soon.

  10. Are the episodes that air on The Africa Channel up to date or are they behind? The Africa Channel also airs Generations too- that's very cool.

I used to watch the show all the time when I lived South Africa and then when I would have to go back to visit my relatives. I didn't realise that they'd retained so much of the original/older cast over the years.

  11. Aw, I loved Max and Luna back the day, but I agree- if she hadn't died, I don't know how much longer they would have lasted as a couple (but then again, if they'd broken up, I have no idea who was around then that they would have been paired off with if they weren't together). I do think that Max loved both of them very deeply, but in different ways.

I wonder why they never did anything with their twins. I always thought it would be Frankie that hooked up with Starr and Leslie would have made sense in the sort of "good girl" teen role.

  12. Although I haven't been a devoted viewer of AMC or OLTL in a long time, I'll miss both of them.

Like so many have said, soaps provided an escape for me as a child. I grew up in an extremely dysfunctional and emotionally distant family with parents that fought constantly and my father's job forcing us to up and move all over the world. My mother died quite suddenly when I was younger, my older sister left to go to university, my older brother shut out the world, and my father quickly married my perpetually unhappy stepmother and had a few more kids leaving me feeling very much alone, neglected, and abandoned (which was very easy when you're a blonde awkward Australian girl who speaks English going to school in Italy with a bunch of beautiful Italian kids running around speaking Italian). At that time, Santa Barbara, General Hospital, All My Children, Days of Our Lives, Y&R, and B&B were all running overseas and it was comforting to know that in places all over the world I could find American soaps on some channel- even if they were years behind- and have a sense of familiarity with the people and places on these shows that I was sorely lacking in my real life. As a child, I knew no one else who's mother had died and my father's way of dealing with it was by pushing aside our grief and just never speaking about it again; watching people be able to grieve and process things like deaths on soaps told me that it was okay to grieve and be upset.

Like I said, I haven't watched AMC or OLTL regularly in a while, but I will never forget the comfort characters like Adam, Brooke, Phoebe, Erica, Palmer, Mona, Tad, Dixie, Skye, and Hayley on AMC and Viki, Dorian, Cassie, Asa, Bo, Clint, Max, Gabrielle, and Tina provided to a sad lonely girl once upon a time. Thanks for the memories.

  13. With all the posting of old clips, I would just ask that people be respectful about keeping them but not uploading them to youtube etc. A lot of us spent a lot of time and money and I know Halee spent a lot of hours converting and editing Lady Ashton's old stuff as well. She took down her youtube channel where all that was posted for a reason. I know all my stuff from the City that I was able to finally dig up after many attempts, send to LadyA to convert for me from old VHS to DVD and then went on to Halee to edit and clip and then I shared it with someone and it all ended up on youtube under someone's elses channel when the original owner of those tapes DID NOT want them there.

I wasn't aware that that was the case with The City clips featuring Tracy- I removed them from YouTube as soon as I saw this posted. Wish I had known sooner, but alas, now that I do, I've removed them.

Hope you all are doing well.

  14. I've been watching DAYS everyday lately- mostly because there's never anything else on soap wise and I a not watching AMC- and I'm really enjoying it. We're months behind you guys (I think we're in 2008 or early 2009- John and Marlena and Steve and Kayla all just left) though, which is better than it use to be- when I was a kid, Australia was like 5 years behind the US- in fact, before I even knew there was Luke and Laura, I knew GF as Diana on DAYS. We use to get GH too, but it was years behind (like the Georgie/Dillon and Courtney/Jason era) but we dont get it anymore.

I do have to say that my nostalgic heart was so happy to see all those people that are coming back for that Alice funeral tribute. Like I said, in like 1990, we were watching the mid 80s down here, and I'm a little ashamed to admit that me and my sister named our fishes Euegene, Calliope, Jack, and Jennifer :ph34r: (to go along with our cats Sean and Tiffany- we were dorks), and were recreating Shane and Kim with our Barbie and Ken dolls.

I've been catching up on GH via Youtube, and even though I can't stand th character of Kristina, I'm really enjoying the story. It's been pretty good. Can't wait for the Quartermaines story to pick up.

Good on the US for finally starting to do something about that healthcare nightmare.

  15. I think me and you are the only ones happy about JJ on this board! its just you and me baby lol! GV seems like a very nice man, but I was totally eeeing when I watched yesterday's show online. I just loved original LnL2 back in the day, so Im happy to have him back.

I haven't been watching GH much...too caught up in Eastenders, Packed to the Rafters, and H&A (are you watching the last two TracyQartermaine...im so hooked on Packed to the Rafters its ridiculous!!)

  16. JJ's definitely not going to look old enough, but I don't think he's going to be around enough to really matter.

As for "lemon face", lol they must have better eyes than I have, because Tracy's face was covered by Luke's. You can't see any expression. You can only see Luke holding her very tightly in his arms and first holding her head to his then both arms holding her back and he tries not to loose balance.

We will get some follow-up with the kiss somehow. I hope it's tomorrow but even if it isn't, the mediapics have them standing in a very close/familiar way beside Hell's bed. That is not her "I'm not going to be associated with you" pose. That's her "I'm Mrs. Spencer and I'm here with my husband" pose.

I dont think whether he looks older or younger than Lulu is really a big issue; my brother and sister are younger than me yet both look older than me. How long is he here for? ON some of the other boards, I've read he'd moved his entire family down to LA and that he was here for at least a year or two.

It looked lemony to me as well.

  17. I watched today....the new Molly is adorable!

All I've seen on other boards, the la times emmy board, and over in the Daytime Emmys chatroom about Emmy preseters is Jensen Ackles from Supernatural (on The CW but use to be on days), Laura Wright and Drew Garrett from GH, and Van Hansis, Jake Silbermann, Jon Lindstrom, Cady McClain, and Lynn Herring (to apparently rub in the fact to ABC that every stray and former ABC actor is now on ATWT) from ATWT, but who knows whats true and whats people just guessing

  18. Oh don't worry, we're having 24 hour Michael Jackson coverage too- complete with the memorial service and his face being on the cover of every single newspaper, tabloid, and magazine everyday for the past two weeks.

  19. Well, no more ghost Alan....

    Stuart Damon is joining ATWT

According to a BREAKING NEWS report at Soap Opera Digest, Stuart Damon (Alan Quartermaine, General Hospital) is heading to As the World Turns

. Fans were outraged when General Hospital killed off the long time actor during the Emmy-winning storyline of the Metro Court Hostage Crisis. Since Alan's onscreen death, Damon had popped in here and there as Alan's ghost. Really, he acted as his sister Tracy's (Jane Elliot) conscience.

This casting reunites Damon with former GH pals Jon Lindstrom (ex- Kevin Collins; now Craig Montgomery) and and Lynn Herring (ex-Lucy Coe; now Audrey Coleman). Stuart should first appear this September as a new character.
