  1. Am I the only one who is rather underwhelmed by Amelia Heinle's performances in this storyline so far? I really hope she steps it up for whatever is to come.
  2. I really hope they don't ruin Cole by doing a "Stitch/JT" to him.
  3. Wow, this is exciting news. I am sure JG will mess this up majorly, but I am excited just the same. AH and JEP actually had chemistry on All My Children. It will be nice to see Victoria with someone she lights up with. I definitely think Claire is baby Eve all grown up and scorned.
  4. You're right. Reading a little further, the writer says Claire wasn't apparently a party to the idea of killing him off. But I was surprised by the book writer saying Pavel's death was one of the "Biggest blunders" in the history of the show. There are other blunders I would consider bigger than that. All in all, though, I am just really glad someone is writing about this show and cares about daytime history. I just wish there was more info. on the early days of the soap. I would have loved some insight into the Nell story, for example.
  5. I just got through reading about the "Midnight Murder" storyline in the Ryan's Hope book and Michael Corbett's firing. I like Corbett, don't get me wrong, but is the writer exaggerating when he says Pavel was the most popular and well-known character the show ever had at the time of Pavel's death? He says not even Mulgrew had received the amount of mainstream press & acclaim Corbett did (he *was* on the cover of People). Now, I am a second-generation RH fan (by that I mean, I only discovered the show when it came to SoapNet), but do you agree with this assessment? Pavel always kind of seemed like a throwaway character to me, not one who was built to last, even though the book writer intimated he could have become like the next Luke Spencer if Labine and Mayer had only invested in him.
  6. In the book I believe it was Ilene Kristen who said Mary Carney was totally wrong for the role. So, what works in recasting is definitely subjective. The network definitely should have let the character go when Kate skipped. There was no replacing her. What stood out to me was that it sounds like Michael Levin made people miserable because he was so unhappy about the recasts. That seems a tad bit unprofessional, and I say that as a big fan of the guy. There were some mentions of him being very, very grumpy about it.
  7. There was some crazy stuff back in the day that they could never get away with now. But even now you have characters like Sonny Corinthos that are heralded as saviors of the town who called women whores and sluts and did horrible things to them, but he is considered fit for sainthood by the writers. For a genre that caters to women, the misogyny is rampant.
  8. Now that I think about it, Ted King always seemed like a real threat to Maurice Benard's popularity, so I do wonder if they would actually bring Lorenzo back. Alcazar was always more suave and interesting than Sonny and made Sonny look like a fool regularly. I do agree they need to figure out a way to keep Lois! Rena is so good. I just wish she had a better storyline. And I wish Eddie/Ned didn't look so grimy!!
  9. I do think the endless recasting absolutely hurt the show. Without a doubt.
  10. Blaze being Lila Rae would be too soapy for words. I hope it's true. I just pray they can get Ted King back as Lorenzo. I would love Robin Christopher to come back as well, but I fear she has retired from acting.
  11. For example, I just can't picture Catherine Hicks or Karen Morris-Gowdy (talented as they are) playing the scenes on Bucky's boat where you can almost see Faith's skin crawling as Bucky is trying to "get Faith in the mood". Catlin really sold the awkward uniqueness of the character that was sort of lost in translation by the others.
  12. I liked Faith Catlin as Faith. I thought she fit the part well. Faith, the character, was originally written as an oddball: a prudish, uptight person uncomfortable in her own skin. Faith played that well. I think she just fit.
  13. Absolutely cannot say I am surprised at all. The magazine has been worthy of nothing but lining the bottom of a bird cage for years now. It's sad to think about, but it's true.
  14. I just watched Monday's episode. IMO, it was probably the best one of the new chapter so far. We got romance (Mike/Jane), romance with pathos (Mack/Haz), major revelations (JJ's secret), business drama (Reece vs. Paul was good. Yes, Mischa is low energy, but she does okay in scenes with Stefan Dennis and Tim Kano was there too, and he can elevate anything with his charm), and other plot developments. I really enjoyed it. Hopefully they can keep this momentum going.
