"But unlike Jesse, who was a tough college dropout, Adam on "Generations" was more in keeping with the wealthy and upwardly mobile white characters typically featured on daytime dramas."

This is probably why I was more drawn to Winters/Barbers than any other day time family.

Mia is named after Angelica's daughter.

If the show ever allowed another black baby to be born on canvas into the Winters family (Devon is past due), do you guys think it'd be too on the nose or in poor taste to name the child after Kristoff? Or would Neil be better?

KRISTOFF! And not in poor taste IMO. HA! Also, who is Angelica? All I know is that Mia is the name of Kristoff's ex-wife AND the name of that spitfire heffa on the show married to Rey.

No offense to Amelia because I'm sure she meant well but I'd rather work at a place where I am treated as a valuable employee whose contributions are justly recognized and compensated than a family member.  Family sometimes contains members who take advantage of other members or take family members for granted.

Some families are completely dysfunctional.  The soap opera itself  was a genre that dramatized family conflicts.

I've become wary of companies/businesses that claim to treat their employees like family.

Correct! Yet, there's also the other side of this coin to consider. Sometimes FAMILY are so dogged when they know one of their own IS/HAS BEEN in severe dire straits, that they will leave no stone left unturned when it comes to keeping up with the plight of one of their own. Reading between the lines here............

  3. This season premiere was lit. It held my attention from start to finish. New HBIC Zlata is going to bring the crazy and my jaw dropped when she blew away her sister Riva with insurmountable coldness! Virginia knows she's pregnant and she's consuming alcohol? What is she up to? Is she trying to abort this child HER OWN WAY? Bryce's reaction to seeing Jen get smashed by Hank on camera (courtesy of Zlata) was hilarious.

  4. No one caught this last night? It was pretty good actually. Plenty of action and everything got straight to the point without any opportunity for boredom. Love the three female leads. Kinda reminds me of TNT's Claws in a way, but dare I say it, had a much better pilot than Claws did, and I LOVE Claws.

Is this show any good or worth checking out? I hated to hear they changed location from Denver to Atlanta, but to see Nicollette Sheridan again on TV sounds worth it--as the new Alexis no less sounds fascinating.

Desperate Housewives never recovered from the loss of Edie as a character either.

Initially, I hated the idea of the change in the setting, but I quickly decided that Atlanta, as a setting, offers numerous possibilities. There's the music industry along with the good and the bad that occurs in that business. Atlanta is also high on the list when it comes to the sex trade. There's never a shortage of stories to tell from that aspect. With the right writers, Dynasty 2.0 could easily be a combination of the old (in terms of the show's vibe) with newer elements added. The gossip girl vibe is hurting it and it has to go.

With Atlanta's music scene, characters like Dominique and Brady would certainly make sense.  They'd probably get accused of ripping off Empire.

I completely forgot that Dominique had an ex-husband named Brady Lloyd (played by Billy Dee Williams in the original). He was a recording executive. Actor Blair Underwood sounds like a good fit for this show's version of Brady. He and Dominique would serve well in stories coming from the Atlanta music scene. Good idea!

  7. TPTB shouldn't stop here. This show's numbers have not been good, so they'd have nothing to lose by casting more new characters ASAP! Vanessa Williams as "Dominique Devereaux", Valarie Pettiford as "Sybil (get it?) Colby", and James Lafferty as "Adam Carrington". Someone mentioned elsewhere about this show's setting being Atlanta, yet the show doesn't do much to make it seem like this is where these characters are living. I think I agree with that too! They should utilize the Atlanta setting more. Good stories can often be made based on a show's setting alone, and I personally know Atlanta: Party city, energetic, highly skeevy, and crime-ridden.

  8. I've been reading online that a tv series is being considered by the name of "Sin City." "Basin City" is the town's criminal-infested setting, and it's apparently based on some dark comic strips and movies created by some guy named Frank Miller. I read some of the details about the comics and the movies and I think it would translate well into some weekly dark tv show. Most of the characters sound like larger-than-life criminals and I can already see it reminding of some modern-day Edge of Night.

Paul Rauch was involved with a proposed late night soap for Fox titled 'Up Against It' Cast included Anthony Addabbo.

Donna Swajeski and Zalman King were headwriters.

    This was in 95.

Any details on the premise of what "Up Against It" was supposed to be?

  10. I actually kinda like this show but it does need work. Somehow, I believe in it having potential. It's gotten a full season order so this is the chance for a bit of retooling. The introduction of Alexis would definitely be a step in the right direction, much like she was the right decision to be made in the original.

HA! The infamous Paige Matheson is Alexis. Let the games begin!

  11. I knew Virginia would be pregnant, but Roller being the father would actually be...................... not so exciting? He's a MAN HO and everyone, including Desna, knows it. Who knows how many children he's already fathered. But Desna's sweet innocent autistic brother Dean? That's loaded with conflict since Desna has already been weary of Virginia.

Is this a crime show? A soap? A crime soap? I'm thinking of watching.

It's been called a "dramedy." But crime soap or perhaps comedy crime soap seems accurate to me as well.

  13. WOW! I'm surprised no thread was created for this show until now. Did no one watch? It was pretty good and Niecy Nash was wonderful. This show isn't for the faint of heart though because it's loaded with sex and violence. The pilot ended on a nice cliffhanger and I'm looking forward to more!

  14. I remember when I pitched the idea on this board about a rival family (with a couple of yall agreeing with me) to go against the Lyons. I'm feeling like Lee Daniels and Co. might've listened and created the DuBois clan. I've liked them so far, and now Jamal quite likely has a new love interest in the form of that dark chocolate sexy crooner who serenaded him in the finale. I believe it'll start out that the DuBois hottie is duping Jamal only to realize that he really does have genuine feelings for Jamal after getting to know him. This sets up that old-fashioned soapy "Romeo and Juliet" dynamic with them falling for each other while their families are duking it out. Just how does Jamal end up landing all of these smokin' guys anyway?

  15. This show is usually painfully predictable, but something happened last night that I didn't see coming. It seems that Jamal's potential love interests know each other. I loved that reveal because it was a good soapy move. I look forward to learning the exact relationship between those two.

  16. This show represents everything that I wanted FOX's Empire to be: Great in depth drama that delves nicely into the lives of the characters along with fair amounts of music that doesn't overwhelm along with steady plots building over the entire course of the season. There will be no quick wrap-ups to the stories on this show, and I'm going to love it for that. Lee Daniels should take note. This is how it's done!

  17. Watched the premiere and I only really liked the ending where Cookie slaps Jamal twice.  These actors are really good with drama and I wish that were showcased more.  I really didn't appreciate seeing Porsha tell someone on the phone that she needed to take a bowel movement.  It was more buffoonery than I needed to see.
