  1. I wonder what fan reaction is to this specific time. I know a lot of people loved when the show began Bo and Hope, then Shane/Kim, and many other couples, but I don't hear as much about the time described here. I know a lot of fans were upset about what was done to Renee.

I wasn't watching DOOL during this time, but I do like Renee from what I've seen in youtube clips, though her character seemed to change alot by the time she died. Mostly what I've heard from this time are about the two major murder stories, the Salem Strangler and the Salem Slasher, which seem to be popular amongst fans.

  2. So at :33 or :34 is that Donna and Emily Ann singing? Um...let's just say it sounds like most family concerts I've had to hear over the years.

Yeah that was them singing Though The Years at the Tad and Dixie wedding, which I remember thinking was bizarre as it had been less than a year since they had fallen in love.

  3. Would you say this was that much more sensationalistic than the stuff with Silver stalking her and Natalie and Palmer putting Silver in a toy chest, or that weird stuff with Marissa Rampal?

Could you also say the character lost most of her individuality after the rape story?

Yes, I think you could say that, as that is where her victimization began. Though I still enjoyed Natalie up until the Trevor period, which she became even more transparent to justapost the 'crazy' Janet.

Depriest did have some weird OTT plots during her brief stint, I was just assuming Khan was talking about the shift from Nixon to McTavish, as thats when AMC lost its 80s vibe.

  4. I can't speak for Khan, but for me, Natalie in the well was the beginning of the end for Natalie. Trevor had no idea that Janet wasn't Natalie, to the point that he fathered a child with Janet. Natalie then got into a blah relationship with Dimitri, Janet murdered Will, and then Natalie had to deliver Janet's baby. And we were all supposed to just go along with the idea that sure, Natalie would get back together with Trevor and live happily ever after raising the child conceived as a result of all of this.

I liked the b*tchy, scheming, selfish Natalie who fought with Erica over Jeremy. I felt like her character was so watered down to be with Trevor in the first place, so the whole Janet storyline just really ruined Natalie for me as a character by making her seem so weak, and it made me hate Trevor even more. I never really liked him, but that just sealed the deal for me.

IA that 80's Natalie was more interesting than early 90's Natalie, but in terms of the show as a whole I think this might have been the beginning of McTavish's sensationalistic plots.

  5. Has Blake done anything since AMC? And how many women (or men tongue.png ) have done tampon adverts and then gone on to soap work--Alicia Minshew is another.

Others (like Carl) don't share my love for Greenlee pre-Ryan but I think Nixon created her to be kinda a twist on Erica--the poor little rich girl.

You can add me to that list (sorry!). RB as Greenlee just came across as too brittle in her bitterness and lacked that joie de vivre that Erica possessed. Then again I wasn't a fan of Minshew either. I did like SMG as Kendall.

  6. Doug Marland's Original plans for Luke and Laura:

An excerpt from a 1982 interview in the St. Petersburg Times:

"I never would have had Luke rape Laura. My idea for that story was to have Luke worship Laura from afar. I planned for him to get into deeper and deeper trouble with the syndicate and try and try to get away from them. His reason to escape the mob: his love of Laura and his desire for her. And in the end, no matter what Luke had done for Laura---all the money he had given her, all the trouble he had gotten into [on] her behalf---she never would have loved him.

I adored the character of Laura, but she was vain. Vanity was a big part of Laura's personality. Luke and Laura never would have gotten together in my storyline. I had other things in mind for Luke."

  7. Why did Taylor Miller leave in the first place? I remember my grandmother saying TM went "crazy" and was hospitalized. However, I think my grandmother read that in the Inquirer.

We Love Soaps: You left ALL MY CHILDREN the first time in 1984. Why did you leave?

Taylor Miller: They kept on repeating the same storyline over and over again. I likened it to being in pantyhose that were too small. I don't know if you've ever had that experience.

    We Love Soaps: No! [Laughs]

Taylor Miller: I wanted and needed to play somebody different, somebody new. I went out to Hollywood and in the ten months I was there I did a nighttime guest spot, a commercial and a play. I guess that was a pretty good. Then I had the job offer to go to ANOTHER WORLD. I just wanted to play somebody different.

  8. It didn't bother me too much with some of them (for instance, I thought Greenlee was always a mess, I thought Marian was always a very insecure woman and that kind of stayed even when she was with Stuart, along with her lewd comments and one-liners), but you have a point. I guess it jumps out at me more with Natalie because she was so very sleek and ethereal and aloof with Collins in the role - seeing her not just domesticated, but subjugated to just some fantasy figure for Trevor.

I think part of the transformation might have been due to the writers wanting Natalie to be juxtaposed to Janet.
