  1. The first clip (re Lily's mom alcoholism) says it's from the first episode--I wonder if the postr has the full episode and could be politely persuaded to post it all or just has her mother's scenes. (I have seen the pilot movie, with Lloyd Bridges or whoever and Geraldine Page -- which aired in primetime the night before--though I wish I could see that again as well)

The way I had read it I assumed Lily's incest story was dropped altogether--I'm glad it at least got some sort of payoff in the court scenes. the first year or half year of Loving seems very good to me--a good mix of old school AMC (which I think was part of Agnes Nixon's concept for creating it--and may have been its undoing as no one really wanted early 70s style AMC as a soap by then) with some of Marland's trademarks.

It does seem in the 90s, with Addie Walsh and then Agnes writing in a way they returned to this style--the show at least seems more like the very early Loving I've seen in feel in those 93-94 eps than the 1987 Loving clips here (when one of the writers was Amy Lippman who went on to create Party of Five).

  2. LOVE the Bad Seed--that's great. I always like it when stars tell of good experiences at their soaps lol.

I have such a hate on for Lipton that this show has never had ANY interest for me--and while out of soaps from that 10 year era I'm still more sdesperate to see ANY of Where the Heart Is and Friends and Lovers/For RIcher for Poorer, I have to admit these promos have me very interested in seeing more. It feels like a very sophisticated show for its time, maybe too sophisticated (especially for an early morning time slot). Just compare it to this promo for AMC at the same time (which is I admit a GREAT promo--it woulda hooked me)

  3. I've never thought much of this soap seeing as it was created by the awful James Lipton (soap killer extraordinare, Broadway musical writing hack, who now inexplicably, and famously, hosts, along with his massive ego, Inside the Actor's Studio) but I admit these youtube promos intrigue me--it seemed pretty racy for 1970 and had a very strong cast (lotsa Oscar talent). Was it canceled just cuz itand World Apart didn't do as well as AMC out of te new ABC 1970 soaps?

  4. I hate reading his interviews (especially as he mentioned in the past that he NEVER watched Loving, and now is acting liek a huge fan lol) but I gotta read--I assumed she left on her own too. In hindsight IMHo it was a mistake but maybe with diva Morgan fairchild coming on and the desire to really shake up the cast (none of the really core Corinth family members made the move) they thought to drop her

  5. SIGH I give up doesn't seem to want me to embed though I think I'm doing it right :( . Here's the link :Phttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3lbj6MOriQ And Faltermeyer must have been hired as some sort of promotion--he did a whole soundtrack with some of the love themes (sung in English--0super dated) and score that is up on youtube: Roman and Diana's theme http://www.youtube.com/user/RomanDianaFan29#p/u/4/1mIfIAJhut0 This user has them all http://www.youtube.com/user/RomanDianaFan29#p/u/4/1mIfIAJhut0 (Zeit der Sehnsucht soundtrack)

  6. HAHA found some.

Here's the full version of his theme song (which is VERY mid 80s synth--sounds a bit like his movie themes lol very dated but I kinda like it... lol)

I actually have this album it's on--his greatrest hits and didnt really realize where the track was from...

  7. I believe they had a different dub for Quebecois france--we still get Y&R and B&B int he afternoons and B&B is called Top Models I believe (like that--in English as it's common slang...) I always see it in the tv listings and briefly wonder what show that is... Loving was big in France and Italy I know can't remember the name (Italy had AMC for a long time as Pine Valley though--well except whatever Pine Valley is in Italian)

  8. DAYS wanted to seem more modern I think--so updated their scores more (I mean B&B still looks like a show from 1989...)

In Germany where Days was apparantly massive in the 80s, and I think other areas in Europe, they actually at some cost had film composer Harold Faltermeyer rescore the show (Faltermeyer is famous for his disco work in the 70s--as arranger on many Donna Summer albums but in the 80s he did many film scores oin synths including Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop where his ubuquitous Axel F theme came from--as well as producing a Pet Shop Boys album and other hits). I've always wanted to hear some of his work for the show--it seems so odd they got him to do it, though I know he used the gorgeous little known \Donna Summer ballad he produced in 87, Fascination, as a love theme on the show which gave it some chart success there.

  9. Thanks Toups, so she was supposed to turn to dust, were they afraid it would be too much like Buffy? I hope they don't bring her back as fake deaths are dumb.

I haven't been reading online articles about the show, but has there been any discussion of the teenage drinking? Every week they are at some party getting drunk.

I think people accept it on these teen shows now--certainly it doesn't strike me as much different from anything we see One Tree Hill, OC, 90210 (Dawson'setc) if anything there's signifcantly less of it lol

  10. No talk about the last ep?

This is a show I didn't expect to like but I was curous to see Kevin Williamson's take on vamps (and adapting an apparantly popular YA series) and I got sucked in. While I have many quibbles, what I love about it is its moody, even slow atmosphere which is not at all what I expected. Here in Canada I can watch it on Thursdays at 7, Fast Forward at 8 and Fringe at 9 and, surprisingly to me, I lately find myself enjoying VD far more than the other two :o
