  1. LOL I think it's just a punch-warmup gesture, lol... It's really too bad there are so few ties on the show to these 70s characters and families. I guess by the end of its life AMC was no better but the loss of family (despite how decimated they were--inarguably--the last decade) seemed more a gradual progression to me for some reason--I guess because even characters like Jamie had ties to Phoebe as well as Ruth and Joe, etc . On the other hand One Life now is basically ones tied to the Lods via Vicki (but really tied to the Buchanen's who were more an 80s thing) and Dorian.
  2. Ha she does. "if I wear this hideous wig and make sure to smile constantly the way I never would as Dorian, they'll never know..."
  3. I love how the caption under it is about how worried she is... She sure as Hell doesn't look it there.
  4. Probably? LOL It was 20 years ago that I saw it
  5. The funny thing is I've probably seen 6 episodes of Partridge in my life. All I remember was she was a visiting princess or something who was hiding out with whatever the eldest Partridge guy was called so that she could experience "normal" life... (Because their lives were so normal).
  6. Never too much to read---just keeps me up some nights
  7. And thanks Carl for those updates--so great to have a feel for what the show was like an average week at that time. It'll take me a bit to go through them but also nice to see ANY pics from the 70s that aren't the same ones we always see.
  8. Didn't Ponzini last the longest? Agnes hired him because he was such a hit as one of soap opera's first comic characters (and a creation of hers)--Danny Fargo on Another World. That said I've heard he played the role a bit less fully comic as later Vinnie's (which would make sense as he had slightly more dramatic and front burner stories back then--falling in love with Nicki--which I would kill to see clips of--etc). Wasn't one of the Vinnie later used as Benny on AMC? Actually I may just be thinking of how much I felt that Agnes based Benny on Vinnie (who perhaps was based on Danny--Agnes did like re-using character types like nearly all soap writers).
  9. And thank god for that--and yes I think you're right
  10. I have the three book set--it's from the late 70s I believe and is divided into... Erica, one volume for Phile and Tara and I think one is just called The Yougn Lovers or something but--while written at the level of most cheap romance fiction, they are fun reads that give more details that apparently often were based on the scripts--though I doubt too closely. (I have the OLTL ones from the 80s as well) Yes I suspect that was always the end point--Alec was always kinda using Hayley--not the way Will did but it wasn't a very good relationship. So I found that interesting but out of her happy romances the only one I really liked was her and Brian (which as a kid new to AMC was one of THE big stories--I guess the young love thing AMC always did so well but after that didn't handle as well)--I remember my sister got briefly hooked with one of her friends basically just for their story.
  11. No she was a bit ridiculous as a cop. I guess I never bought the recast for some reason, but her stories mainly seemed all obsessed with getting a man (mainly Noah) who was taken yawn. Thanks for the Laura clip--Cecily must have left soon after (did she go on some Miss Home Maker tour or osmething or was that when she left earlier). So I guess Laura was created when Agnes was interim writer between McTavish and Broderick which, while I hated the character often after she left Janet's cabin, isn't too surprising as the concept of the character seems very Agnes. (And random but all these clips remind me of how I hated Charlie as played by Lawford no matter who he was with or what he was doing... I know they played up how he was related to Lawford/the Kennedys but I never got how he lasted as long as he did as I didn't know anyone who liked him. He was the like the very most obnoxious qualities of Tad without any of the charm or well acted drama).
  12. That;'s the longest scene I've seen of Carter since they aired, but I thought he was a great villain--as everyone knows it was following his story as it went over to Loving that truly hooked me on that show. Season Hubley had an interesting career--I remember aroudn the time Angelique was on I saw her play a princess on a Partidge Family rerun, she was also in the somewhat controversial 70s movie Hardocre, as well as Priscella Priestly in the Kurt Russell tv movie of Elvis... And then a huge amount of tv guest work, though she seems to have retired. I actually really liked Angelique--it was probably partly my 12 year old brain but I always felt really sorry for her situation--though I think many found her annoying and too passive. She did come back one Wildwind Christmas and they;d menton her at ater ones (I want to say the trainset they always set up under the tree was a gift from her to Edmund and Dimitri since she helped to reconcile them). Her hair was normally blond but I guess she dyed it by then. (Incidentally Season's brother is actor Whip Hubley who still pops up a bit but is most known for being in Top Gun as well as playing Brian in More Tales of the City and Further Tales, after Paul Gross had to leave the role which he played in the first miniseries due to working on Due South). Fra got cancer very shortly AFTER the Mona cancer storyline--I remember the soap press commenting quite a bit how ironically sad that was. Aw the excellent 25th Anniversary week--every episode that week had that special opening--I have them all on video but haven't watched in a while. SOO many great character returns, although at the time (the special 25th Anniversary book hadn't come out yet, or I hadn't gotten it, and the Net was basically non existant) I admit I had NO idea who half of the returns were and many of them at Ruth and Joe's final welcoming party barely even had half a line of dialogue...
  13. OK, I feel dumb, but who was Ethel Crawford--I mean when did she come back? And was she used the same way or was it essentially a re-write? She came back for the Dorian/Victor trial in the 90s? Love reading those old synopsises too--even the descriptions in the big OLTL book gloss over a ton of the 70s stuff. And nice to see more clips from the Gottlieb era--I had a huge crush on Dylan though I guess in hindsight he was kinda a waste of a character...
  14. Great to read any further details on the show.
  15. I only vaguely remember Rio and all that but San Felipe sounds right to me. Thanks for the breakdown on Curtis--for a show with so many recasts he must have been one of the most--I do remember the Pins incident--and his involvement in the Jeremy/Gilbert evil twin story but don't clearly remember much about the actors--I guess until Marcantel took over again. I think you're absolutely right that Dinah Lee was originally meant to be a much more gray character. Thanks for the clips Carl, it's great to see what little bits are even out there--that's from an era of Loving I do clearly remember, from the sets to the stories.
  16. I didn't realize they did auditions in New York, although it makes sense. I've only been once, but I have a high school friend who's been part of the company for a bit over ten years now (she actually had one of the leads in Importance of Being ernest so took it to Broadway last Spring), so still follow up on the company's comings and goings. Will be interesting to see how they do without Des McAnuff at the helm this year.
  17. Not sure where to place this, but Tim Stickney is in the program for this season (April to Nov 2012 I believe) Stratford Theatre Festival in Ontario as part of their company for 3 shows, plus a lead in Henry V.
  18. Alec and Hayley were a mess--and thankfully not around for long. What WAS interesting was the twisted relationship with Alec and her mom and I suppose due to that reason it was a worthwhile story.
  19. OLTL seems to be perhaps one of the soaps most influenced by the primetime soap boom--even if they all were to some extent (increased focus on corporate politics, the wealthy, etc). Not simply due to the obvious Dallas/Buchanen invasion .
  20. How long did he last in the role anyway? Was he the last Curtis befre the original returned? I don't remember other Curtis' actually. Kinda funny he feels bad for Burke Moses who a few months later he got to replace Peter Gallagher in Guys and Dolls and became a MASSIVE musical theatre name--he still is, so I doubt he felt too bad... I actually suspect that's what it was, at first it seemed like the focus was more on sister Hannah although both of them did go, not ALL too long after their intro, to stay with Myrtle at Pine Valley (which led to the Carter crossover) so I guess she caught on early.
  21. That makes sense--thanks! I have early episodes with Dante on tape (when he befriended I think it was Dinah Lee and would always talk about his pet and had a secret identity) and though I haven't checked in years, was pretty sure Agnes Nixon was listed as writer.
  22. How many are left? (in his plan) Three? Apparently this one will be the last to do what the last two books did and only focus on one part of the cast. (I have to say the fourth book, Crows really suffered for me because the cast focused on were largely characters I don't care too much for--I found a lot of it I had to sludge through, but it was worth it for the far more enjoyable Dragons. I'm glad the show will apparently not be doing it this way. Actually a friend of mine says that he thinks the rule seems to be so far that the odd numbered volumes are better than the even lol).
  23. Bobby Love! lol Watching that makes me get mad all over again with what they did with Powell and Rebecca and that dumb serial killer story.
  24. Thanks for posting that great review--funny as didn't a review from '91 or so think '89 was a rough year? Funny about saying Maurice Benard doesn't do any fake Marlon posing and mannerisms, as that's all he does now, but I do agree that in the 80s on AMC he had a charm and naturalness with him and he and Cecily were great, better than Julie. I didn't even remember Cecily being there by the time Laura came on the show. Man I hated Cecily during her whole 90s run--I really could not fathom why they brought her back until later I saw how much more appealing she was in the 80s. Of course it didn't help that they paired her with Charlie... I actually much prefered the first Taylor though she seems rougher acting wise than I remember in that clip. Was she replaced I didn't read much soap gossip at the time, but my memory was the actress left and the new Taylor came a while later...
  25. Oh dear he's asking for trouble, the way some of his fans get so mad when they have to wait for him to finish a book...
