Actually, the song Steph sung was "About You Now" (slow/piano version) by the Sugababes. "Change" is kind of their song, and was the song that was played on the Jukebox the night Steph came home after Max died, when she was in her wedding dress crying.
Here's a montage video about the funeral and Max/Steph set to "About You Now."
The lyrics, "Nobody gets me like you" was so fitting, Max really understood Steph.
AHh..okay..I thought it was "Change." Both are great songs.
Carley Stenson (Steph) rocks! She rocked that whole funeral episode. It must have been so hard to carry on sining and crying at the same time. I don't know how she did it. She was in-tune for most of her singing too, while crying at the same time. She also looked authentically devastated, she looked a mess, how anyone in the situation would look.
I know eh. She was phenomenal!
OB actually left in February. He came back to be Max's best-man at his wedding to Steph. OB left to follow Summer, the woman he fell in love with to London, where she had moved. This is his goodbye to Max and Tom in February. If you notice, OB quoted a line Max said in this episode in the eulogy that Steph read for him.
Darren Jeffries (OB) and Matt Littler (Max) decided to leave together, but for story purposes, Bryan Kirkwood (HO's EP) had OB leave a few months before Max. I guess for dramatic reasons.
That was a sweet goodbye scene. I loved Tom asked Max why he didn't hug OB and said that he might never see him again. LOL Max/Tom//OB is such a great trio.
This is a Max/OB tribute video, for all of you not familiar with them. If you look at the first scene, you seem them as young kids/teens. Their friendship was a pivotal part of Hollyoaks for 11 years. It's so sad to not see any great friendships on US soaps anymore.
LOL! I love how he pronounces the director's name!LOL!! Also, "Thank you for this award....but....I just don't know what to say about it."
Matt Littler (Max) and Darren Jeffries (OB) won Best Onscreen Partnership at this year's BSA's. It's so fitting since this was their last year together. So happy for them. They rock.
Tom's mother and father are death, they died in car accident a few years ago. In her will, Tom's mother Helen stated that Tom's half sister (Max's step-sister), Mandy, would be his legal guardian. However, Mandy couldn't deal with taking care of Tom, so she gave him to Max who raised him.Tom and Mandy's mother is Helen, Max is Helen's step-son through her marriage with Gordon Cunningham.
Max's biological sister is Cindy (the bitchy brunette one).
I was wondering about this too. Thanks!
Oh, Cindy and Mandy are pretty hot too. There's so many good looking women on this show......past and present!
Clare isn't coming back, though Gemma Bissix has recently said she's leaving EastEnders. There's no plans to bring her back to Hollyoaks, and I really don't see what she'd be without Max anyway. She shouldn't have left HO in the first place.

Ellis Hollins (Tom) won an award?! That's so awesome. He was very good back then too? Wow, he's going to be even more super talented when he gets older. Tom ran away to the cemetary because he was afraid the social work was going to take him away and because he wanted to be with his mom and dad.
He's so adorable here! LOL!!

I'm an emotional wreck after Thursday and Friday's episodes.
I lost it again during Friday's episode when OB left to go back to London, as Tom, Steph, Cindy, and Mandy looked on.
I loved the end how OB envisioned Max nodding farewell to him and then he silently nodded goodbye back to him.
The end of an era...
I hope both episodes are uploaded to youtube soon, so I can share with you all.
Woah, those were really good episodes. I loved hearing "My Immortal" - it's such a sad song. Steph reading OB's eulogy and they're cutting back and forth to Tom/Ob sitting together crying. And then Steph starts to sing "Change" by the Sugerbabes which I believe is Steph/Max's song - the lyrics make it such a perfect song for them.
The follow episode, OB's last day and final farewell to Hollyoaks is also up! I love the end credits, where they show a montage of Max and OB clips over the years. Those two really grew up on this show, which makes their loss so painful to me. As I said before, they helped raise Tom together, now Tom has neither of them.Tom is so cute and he's a very good actor for his age. My heart just broke when Tom said to OB/Steph, "I don't want to say goodbye....don't make me."
I love this clip of Max/Tom:
But I love how far Steph's come from that self-absorbed and petty girl, Max's love really changed her for the best. I'm glad she'll be taking care of Tom.I love Steph! Glad she's going to be taking care of Tom. That scene on the bench with Tom......
I'm definitely a new fan of hers. The actress is so good.
So why is OB (and the actor) leaving?

Okay, so Tina and Dom are the biological parents but Tina agreed to give up the baby to Jacqui because Jacqui couldn't have kids anymore? But now, because of the operation, Tina can't have kids either. Damnnnn......What a dilemma for Jacqui and Tina! The scenes in the hospital room were very good. Such agony for both sisters.
Still haven't gotten to the funeral episodes yet. I'll probably catch that tonight.

Toups: By '98 they had fixed those issues though. Ricardo got a family, and Meg's parents became main-stayers; even Bette was granted a daughter. The pace was definitely slowed down, and the film effect was shelved after 6 months.
But those are small families. I meant big soap opera tyle families. GH is like that right now with small group of families - not surprising since Guza is writing!
I think Jim Reilly had a hand with those changes (more family members, slower pace).
I'd say the low ratings during the latter half of '99, was down to NBC moving its timeslot to make way for Passions. Grrr. A lot of the affiliates were airing it in the early hours of the morning. They didn't do well in any of the 3 years. They couldn't even pass their premiere week ratings, where as Passions beat their premiere week ratings in 18 months.

I loved SuBe, but I defiintely see the errors before they even aired:
- "Unlike most daytime dramas, which tend to build their storylines around families and family rivalries, Sunset Beach is about young singles and couples who have been drawn to the town, and the relationships that emerge as the action unfolds."
- "Sunset Beach is being written at a faster pace than traditional daytime dramas."
Daytime is not primetime and people trying to write a primetime show in daytime.....well....we know the result.....it only last 3 years - and The City only lasted 2 years.
Thanks for posting the article, Sylph.

Wow, powerful scene. I don't watch GH so I need some help. What happened to him?
Stone died of aids.
You're right, the background music is great! I wonder if he did any work for ATWT from 2000-2004? That music was breathtaking. No, Marty didn't work for ATWT. But you're right, the music during that period was very good.
0 -
Are you sur ehe's not just credited for giving them a handful of themes? they did revamp all the music about a year ago though and for the most part i love it (and i also love how you still hear a few themes they've had since the 80s...)
Since there are more composers, of course Marty's doing a handful of themes. The ones i really noticed are the piano cues. They sound a lot like Marty's.
0 -
I guess one more thing we disagree on! There's just nothing, nothing I agree with you on, is there?
We have different philosophies about soap opera I guess.
0 -
Oh, I love Marty. But, Toups, I'm surprised!! How come you pay attention to music? I didn't know you had a thing for it!
You didn't? LOL I've been raving about Marty Davich for years now. Yeah, I pay attention to the music. I love background music. I download tv/film scores that I love.
I'm impartial and think that B&B has magnificent music.I think B&B has one of the worse BG music. I hate the saxaphone cues especially. B&B's music is so cheesy. There's nothing beautiful or sad or haunting or dramatic. It's just.....horrible. LOL
With Y&R coming a very close second. I especially like that mysterious woodwind music, I think it's an oboe... Though I'm not 100% sure.Y&R's very good with the drama and tension and suspense.
It's hard to believe B&B/Y&R share the same composers. They're so good at one show while sucking at another show.
0 -
So when did Marty leave GH?
In 2005.
0 -
Wow, didn't know that. He and Marty should compose for OLTL as well then LOL, I've always thought they had the weakest background music of the ABC soaps and the most generic.
I actually love OLTL's BG music because it's so dark and gothic. David Nichtern and Lee Holdridge have been there since 1992. I love them!
JFP is notorious for reworking scoring and background music on the soaps she works for. I'm surprised he stayed there as long as he did with her as his boss. That's no surprise. She used to be a music supervisor for GH (70's) and SB (early 80's)
Was it Shelly Curtis who hied him at GH? I notice Corday and Langan went fire crazy in the early 90's and Curtis, Davich, and Francesca James all went over to GH.Yeah, it was probably Shelley. He arrived in 1993. I also have him at DAYS in 1994.
And how could anyone not love Sonny and Brenda's theme? One of the best themes ever!
I LOVED Carly's theme as well. They occasionally play this background music from time to time now, but I've noticed that they've chopped it up so badly.Oh you're right. Now they just play the beginning part of that.

Here's another example. At 3:10, Roman's theme (that's what I call it, I don't know if it was actually his theme) kicks in. I love this piece!!
Another example of Roman's theme.....10 years later. It kicks in at 6:30: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQYYAvG1o0k

RC Cates is another former GH-er I just noticed from the list as well...
He still composing for GH too.
Example of Marty's greatness:

Aw, LOVED his stuff at GH and PC. I guess he and Julie are friends from their days at GH and PC together...
I wonder what happened. Did JFP stupidly fire him or did JHC steal him away?

I was totally fooled by the beginning of Thursday's episode! I was like, "Not another death!! Not Jack!"
I really liked the Jack/Darren scenes from Wed and Thursday.
Ahh....so that dude with Newt wasn't real. I wondering who he was. How/Why is Newt schizo? He was adopted by Jack and Frankie?
Speaking of Kris, I guess he's a cross dresser?
How did Jack become bankrupt and how did Darren get in debt with the loan sharks?
Darren or Jack better tell them the truth very quickly.
