  3. The Story Behind Every Song on Taylor Swift’s folklore According to the National’s Aaron Dessner. If you've reached your limit on the site, you can read it here. "I sent it before I went on a run, and when I got back from the run, that song was there." That made laugh. What was interesting was that on some of the songs, Aaron sent Taylor instrumentals and then she wrote the lyrics to them. She doesn't do that too often. Off the top of my head, I can only think of "I Wish You Would" (Jack Antonoff). Most of the time, it's Taylor coming up with the lyrics and melodies, and then bringing the partially written song to her collaborator.
  4. "Perhaps more interestingly, singer-songwriters Sia and Lady Gaga both used to be reviewed, but after their albums started hitting No. 1, Pitchfork stopped covering them." Geez!!! I can't them take seriously at all. LOL Taylor Swift’s ‘Folklore’ Off to Fast Start, Over Half-Million Units Earned in U.S. in First Three Days "Taylor Swift’s new album Folklore has earned more than 500,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in its first three days of release, according to initial reports to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Of Folklore’s more than 500,000 units tallied in its first three days, album sales power more than 400,000, while the bulk of the remainder is in SEA units." Lover sold 867,000 units with 679,000 being pure albums in its first week. Can folklore get 280,000 pure albums in the last 4 days? Rooting for that to happen.
  5. Why is Pitchfork so highly regarded? To me, I'm going to always have a negative view point towards them because of what they did to Taylor's 1989 album. They refused to review for 1989 and then when Ryan Adams did a cover of 1989, they decided to review that instead. It was so sexist. They also just seem so pretentious. It's rising up my ranks. The lyrics are great! And the story is pretty dark. To me it's about an alcoholic (They told me all of my cages were mental / So I got wasted like all my potential.......Pouring out my heart to a stranger / But I didn't pour the whiskey) who's trying to make amends with the person they care about (And maybe I don't quite know what to say / But I'm here in your doorway). And at one point, they thought about possibly ending it all (Pulled the car off the road to the lookout / Could've followed my fears all the way down). I also love the production - it reminds me of The Archer. And I like how Taylor's voice is processed (don't know the correct audio term for it.......reverb maybe?).
  6. The National’s Aaron Dessner Talks Taylor Swift’s New Album folklore
  7. Wow, didn't think the album would do that well on its first day on Spotify. Must be because of curiosity (from non fans) and the critical acclaim (she's receiving the best reviews of her career). I'm sure Rihanna and Adele will break Folklore's numbers. Adele is Adele and there's so much anticipation for Rihanna's next album. Folklore only came in 2nd behind Drake's Scorpion album which got 132 million - I hope Rihanna or Adele breaks that record.
  8. It's so good. I love instrumental outro for the last minute. The song is one-third of the "Teenage Love Triangle" with the other two songs being"Betty" (from James' POV) and "Cardigan" (from Betty's POV). "August" (other girl's POV) has such a summer-feeling/nostalgic vibe which fits the feeling of the story (Inez is thinking back to high school when she had an affair with James). BTW, Inez and James are the Blake Lively/Ryan Reynolds' daughters. Could Betty be the name of their 3rd child? LOL
  9. I like every song on the album which is what I was hoping for. LOL. Quick thoughts on the album: the storytelling is really good! She's a story teller at heart and she proves that with this album. The production on the songs were simple and beautiful and matched really well with her vocals (I think her vocals are getting better as she gets older). So with no singles being released before the album, I'm able to do this now, rank all the songs after just one listen. I want to see which songs move up or down as I continue to listen to the album. I have them in three groups and I didn't think the song with Bon Iver would be my #1 off the bat. LOL. 1. Exile 2. August 3. My Tears Ricochet 4. This Is Me Trying 5. Illicit Affairs 6. Betty 7. Cardigan 8. The Last Great American dynasty 9. Mirrorball 10. The 1 11. epiphany 12. Seven 13. Peace 14. Mad Woman 15. Invisible String 16. Hoax
  10. 3 songs connect to each other. Interesting.
  11. Cruel Summer is such a fan favourite. She did 3 pure pop albums in a row so maybe she's done with pure pop? I want my pop-rock-stadium-anthem album! LOL I honestly did not know all that stuff about Joe until today when people were speculating on "William Bowery". I like Joe but not enough to research everything about him - I only do that with Taylor. 😂
  12. @Faulkner Thanks! Those are a bit better. Aaron Dessner is credited with 11 songs on the album and that's the most since Max Martin and Shellback with 11 on 1989. That's a lot of songs for a first time collaborator. Taylor put a lot of trust in him. Bon Iver is another artist who I don't listen to - it's just not my style. LOL I'm curious who "William Bowery" is - he co-wrote 2 songs. If he's credited on "Betty" then it has to be her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Joe's mom's name is Elizabeth and his great-grandfather was named William. And they went to see a Kings of Leon concert at the Bowery Hotel when they started dating.
  13. I couldn't name one song of theirs, so I just listened to the first two songs that was listed on youtube - "I Need My Girl" and "Light Years". They're not bad but it's not something I would listen to on a consistent basis. My music taste is more pop-ish. However, do want Taylor to go back to more live instrument based songs with guitars and drums. I'm obviously super excited for the new album but I'm also disappointed that the Lover era is officially (maybe?) over. My guess were that "Cruel Summer" was going to be released in May and "Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince" being released in October. I am hoping that the "Cruel Summer" video was filmed and she's holding on to it and maybe she'll release it next summer to promote the tour (if there's a vaccine).
  14. Whaaaaat!!!????? There’s been no lead up to this at all!! And it’s possibly a folk/indie pop album??? I’m didn’t think she would go this route at 30 years old. LOL I figured she do this when she’s older, like in her 40’s or 50’s. This is too much. I’m on overload right now. 😂
  15. Idiot.
  16. Mary Trump's full interview with ABC News:
  17. Thanks for sharing your story with us @mikelyons, that was a fascinating read. Sorry you had to go through all of that. I think these are currently the only non-white people writing for daytime: - Lynn Martin (Y&R) - Charlotte Gibson (GH) - Michele Val Jean (B&B) - Ryan Quan (DAYS)
  18. Yes! Those are great steps! Now get rid of the remix tactic where every remix is added together with the original. Hopefully this will mean there won't be anymore of these one-week-wonders that fall out of the top 10 the next week. https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/9417842/billboard-new-chart-rules-no-more-merch-ticket-bundles
  19. And today is the 7th anniversary of Cory Monteith's death. RIP Naya.
  20. Here's the full video: Amazing. 🤣
  21. Canada's federal, provincial and local governments (whether they're on the left, centre, or right) are pretty much all on the same page (when it comes to Covid19). Imagine if the Democrats and Republicans were all on the same team to battle this virus - things would look a lot different. Unfortunately, there's too many stupid and selfish people in America (from the President to those people in Alabama who intentionally tried to get the virus).
  22. How is the world is 6ix9ine popular? Some of his videos rack up 100+ million views in a short period of time and his music isn't very good. He's also a terrible person: "In October 2015, Hernandez [6ix9ine] pled guilty to a felony count of use of a child in a sexual performance. He was charged with three counts of the offense after a February 2015 incident in which he had physical contact with a 13-year-old girl and later distributed videos of the incident online as part of a music video." So his song with dropped 33 spots? There's a been a lot of these one-week-wonders lately where #1s drop out of the 10 after just a couple of weeks. Going #1 is just not impressive anymore, especially when they're only popular for one week.
  23. This is why I have not turned by back on the NYT - some of their investigative reporters are really good, like in this case with breaking the Russian bounty story.
